Ridiculous receipts

When trying to free up some disk space on my PowerBook (3 GB remaining...), I ran across the Receipts folder. Now, according to articles like

these receipts "do not take up a lot of disk space". Ahum...
My receipts folder is a whopping 409 MB. Just for storing information about what software was installed where?! I took a closer look, sorting the receipts by size. The top one was Quicktime651, which is 19 MB. Very intrigued, I looked at the contents. Amazing... Most of the space consists of...
15 IDENTICAL copies of the same tiff-file "Background.tiff", more than a megabyte each, in different language folders!!!
I can't even imagine what a single tiff file would do in a receipt. What's the purpose of receipts? Keeping track of what was installed where, right? Why are all those files in there then?! Why not just a little file with a list of file names and locations?
Can somebody tell me how these receipts work, if I can trim them (throwing out at least those TIFF-files?), or delete a bunch of them altogether? I have Quicktime 7, so why is there still a receipt for 6.5.1 taking up disk space? Surely I can delete anything having to do with older versions of Quicktime?
I have read some posts saying "ooooh, don't mess with those, or you won't be able to repair permissions anymore". But it's beyond me why reparing permissions would somehow require 15 identical tiff-files with Quicktime logo's. A little more insight would really be nice. What exactly is the problem with repairing permissions? Why does it need all those files?
And Software Update... does it really need more than just the name of the package to tell whether or not it has installed something? Can't I just remove the contents of those packages so just the outer shell is left?

I have already posted on the feedback page too. I was just hoping someone here could let me know which parts of the packages are really necessary, so I could do some cleaning. But I guess nobody knows and I'll have to experiment.

Rather small space... I guess I'm just an old-fashioned guy who thinks 400 Megabytes (equivalent to the text in about 4 meters of shelved books) is a lot of space for what is essentially a database that keeps track of installed files. One receipt for iWeb takes twice as much space as the complete works of Shakespeare! And there's two of them, one for the original install and one for the update.
My first ever hard disk had 20 MB. Back then, it stored all my databases, text files, programming projects, and all the applications I frequently used. The biggest was probably a desktop publishing app that took a whole megabyte. Today, the same harddisk can store... two receipts for iWeb. Or just the one receipt for Quicktime 6.5.1.
As a sidenote, I've just been going through my applications folder, opening packages and throwing out unneeded languages (Japanese, Russian, Italian,...), the music from iPhoto, a whole bunch of templates and pictures from iWork, etc... Doesn't take up much space, you would think? Well, my free space increased by more than 4 GB! And then I've been very careful about what I threw out. All apps still work, although obviously without the removed languages, example files, etc.
You go ahead and buy yourself a bigger harddrive. Of course that's what they want you to do. Or better yet, a new laptop with a bigger harddrive as an extra option. So you can store even more receipts!

    I have performed an archive and install of Mac OS X Leopard and have upgraded to v. 10.5.1. The PDF drop-down menu appears in the Print Dialog. When I click on Save PDF to Web Receipts Folder, the command executes, but no PDF appears in my Web Receipts Folder. This function worked in Tiger v. 10.4.11. Any solutions?

    Well, I think I figured out my issue for now.
    The page I was trying to print had a ridiculously long title. Including spaces a total of 528 characters.
    It seems that HFS+ (Which is what OS X Extended is) has a limit of 255 characters. I was not aware of this limitation, but it seems that this is common to Unix systems.
    I'm not quite sure why the website I wanted to print a receipt from had such a long title, but it did.
    It would be nice of there was a way to rename the file when you do a "Save As PDF" or "Mail as PDF". You can do this when Saving as a PDF from the Print Menu. If I knew more, there is probably a way to modify the workflow process that is happening to include that option.
    For me, problem solved - hope this helps someone else out!

  • Buying a ipad from someone with no receipt

    I have found a good deal on gumtree for a used ipad. The iPad is brand new and sealed though - the owner says it is an unwanted present. They do not have the receipt as it was bought for them.
    Anything I should be wary of? Do I definitely require the receipt?

    Don't be ridiculous, it's either used OR brand new and sealed. how on earth can it be both?
    As for being a 'good deal' why would you even take the risk of being scammed by someone with no receipt and who cooed be selling you an empty box or one with junk in it?

  • Receipt and card were in stolen wallet.. Unable to return defective item in-store??

    I purchased a pair of bluetooth headphones from a local bestbuy (In-store).  They turned out to be defective and static-y and I need to return them.  The catch is between the time of purchase (about a week ago), my wallet was stolen, which contained both the debit card that was used in the purchase and the receipt for the item.  I took the item back into the original store, and after some discussion they said they could not accept a return because I did not have the original card used in the transaction.  I did have a replacement card already, which is linked to the same account, but the 16-digit number obviously is different than it was.
    Getting my wallet stolen was not my fault, and I think it would be ridiculous to be stuck with headphones that were sold defective to me.  What can I do or say to get best-buy to accept my return?? I would even accept store credit at this point.  I have been attempting to locate the numbers from the old card as they said they could look up the purchase history with that information, but I am not having much luck there.  
    Also, how can they not have a record of my purchase under my name, phone number, or scan of the barcode on the item?  What did they take that information for if they arent using it for transaction records???

    Hello there cliMAKtic-
    I don’t know a guy that doesn’t live in total fear of having their wallet stolen and having to go through all the hassles when it happens.  After all, besides fashion, why else would there be chain wallets?
    All kidding aside, I can only imagine how much of a pain it must have been to have your wallet stolen and not being able to return your headphones because you no longer had the receipt certainly didn’t help.  That being said, Best Buy does require a receipt be present for all return and exchanges per our Return/Exchange Promise found here.  However, we generally should be able to help you locate your purchase depending on what information you can provide us.  Debit card purchases usually can be found, so I’m surprised the associate you spoke with at the store wasn’t able to locate it.
    In the end, it sounds like the advice that autotech and RealGeorge gave you helped out and you were able to get your product returned.  I’m glad to hear that everything worked out.

    Procedure
    Check your entries, and choose a valid value or combination of values with F4.
    I have crossed checked in t code OMSK valuation class 7920 exists.
    2) Goods receipt against PO:
    Number range for trans./event type WE in year 2014 does not exist Message no. M7562
    Diagnosis
    The number range for document number assignment has not been maintained in the year 2014 for the transaction/event type WE.
    Procedure
    Contact your system administrator.
    in second case i have maintained number ranges in OBA7,OMBT,still iam facing with the same issue

  • Report with open Purchase orders and open Goods Receipt (without invoices)

    Dear All,
    We require a report in purchasing which will show:
    1. open purchase orders
    2. open goods receipts
    We do not want POs and GRs that have been created into invoices to be included in the report.
    At the moment we tried ME2N with RECHNUNG in selection parameters but it includes invoices. We have tried other selection parameters and reports but the results are not helpful.
    I have also checked SDN but there is no correct answer. Most of them specify the ME2N with RECHNUNG as a solution but this does not work for us.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Select to be deliverd(Qty) and Value, also to be invoice(Qty) & Value.

  • GR/IR:  Open receipts with vendor name

    Hello SAP Gurus-
    I am not sure if we are doing something wrong but we are currently reconciling our GR/IR account and what we noticed is that when we added the vendor name to the report with the help of an OSS note, we noticed that it gives us all transactions that make up the balance however it isn't what we wanted exactly.
    What we were looking for was once we execute MR11 and handle all differences, we want to see only open receipts with the Vendor name.  How can we achieve this?  Is there a report?  Should the GR/IR account be set up as a clearing account?
    Any help/ insight is greatly appreciated!

    You can't get a receipt resent, but if you log into your account on your computer's iTunes you should be able to view your purchase history and take a screenshot and see if they will accept that : See your purchase history in the iTunes Store.

    You may even search the invoice yourself, but I'm not sure if you will find it before 1-2 days.

  • Error while creating 2nd Material Receipt after reversal of 1st MR

    Dear,
    Facing an error while creating Material Receipt.
    The gate entry of this material is 123456789.
    The 1st MR was created on 10/02/2011 & no. was 12345 with Location ABC via Z T-code.
    Under Quality this product was Rejected with Location XYZ.
    Due to Material was Rejected in Quality this MR 12345 was reversed through MB01 which produced a Reversal number 67890.
    Now the material is again on its original Location ABC.
    Now when the user is again creating an MR on 17/03/2011 of this material present at ABC location via using Z T-code it is producing an error stating that M/R already processed against 123456789 gate entry.
    We have done these several cases before also and there was no error shown when we created the 2nd MR for the same material after its reversal has been made.

    Problem solved.
    The problem was in PO.
    The person had unchecked the GR-basediv which caused the real trouble. The MR number was not appearing in MB03 & material was rejected in the QA11 so it was reversed through MB01.
    When again the MR was being punched then it was stating that the "MR already processed for the Gate Entry."
    PO was changed, Bill No. was changed by adding "A" & later deleting this "A" from Table level.

  • A/P Credit Memo not updating Goods Receipt PO

    1) A Goods Receipt was created from a PO for all 5 items in the PO.
    2) An A/P Invoice was created for 3 of the items from the Goods Receipt.
    3) An A/P Credit Memo was created was created for the A/P Invoice.
    4) The A/P Credit Memo is Closed, The A/P Invoice is Closed....which it should be.
    5) The problem is that the Goods Receipt only has the remaining 2 items available to copy to the new A/P invoice.
    How do I get the other 3 items to copy now to an A/P Invoice? Do you have to type them in individually? This scenario isn't so bad with 3 items but what if it was 100 items.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Error while creating a Foreign Currency Receipt using Create_Cash API

    Hi,
    I am working on AR Receipts converison in R12 and trying to create cash receipts using AR_RECEIPT_API_PUB.CREATE_CASH.
    Receipt gets created successfully when the currency_code is USD. Receipt Method i am passing is 'Manual Receipt'.
    When the currency_code is not USD (EUR in my case), I am passing the values for p_exchange_rate_type and p_exchange_rate_date.
    But the API Errors out without creating the foreign currency receipt giving the Error: AR_RAPI_RCT_MD_NAME_INVALID.
    When i was trying to look at the API for this error, I dont see this error at all in the API. I see an error with the name 'AR_RAPI_RCPT_MD_NAME_INVALID' but nothing shows up for the error 'AR_RAPI_RCT_MD_NAME_INVALID' ('P' missing in 'RCPT'). I dont know where this error is getting invoked from?
    I am not sure why the API is erroring out for foreign currency receipt saying Receipt Method Name is Invalid. But it works fine for currency_code USD having the same Receipt Method Name.
    Any help would be highly appreciated.

    Thankyou so much for the response. The issue has been fixed.
    There was a configuration missing on the existing bank account setup. On the Account Information Tab, ‘Multiple Currencies Allowed’ was checked, but on the Account Controls Tab, Receivables Controls/’Multiple Currency Receipts’ was not checked.
    I have ensured that both of them are checked and I am now able to create multiple currency receipts.

    Sometimes we receive materials from suppliers free of charge (e.g. warranty replacement) u2013 moving average goes down u2013 worst case 0,01 EUR/piece. This causes problems in government reporting and export documentation EX1 and clearance/pro-forma invoice) for deliveries to field engineers (Order type ZIS1, ZIS3 u2013 item cat. ZICA), because moving average price is used for the values in government reporting and on the invoices. In government reporting and on invoices we need to state a true value of the part.On the other hand, the value warehouse stock is depending on the moving average cost as well.Could you please let me know, how to handle such receipts from the supplier to have a correct stock value and correct values on invoices and government reporting?

    Hello Deepthi,
    It depends on your company policy. If you want to valuate the material along with the material purchased handled in moving average price, free consignment will bring down the MAP for the material.
    In that case, you can revaluate the material to the original price in MR21 transaction.
    If you are not going to handle the materials received free of charge along with the purchased material, you can go with another material code, with non valuated material type.
    But i guess, no company will be asking for another material code. So go for revaluation after the receipt of free consignment.
