Ring Modulator Plug-in, or help making the Dalek voice
Hey All,
I know I've seen a few posts on this before, however none of the responses seemed to help me at all. I'm working on getting a set of effects to alter a voice to sound like a Dalek (from Doctor Who). I have read up extensively on how the sound is performed with the BBC (using a ring modulator effect) and have found PART of the solution in adjusting the Flanger modulation settings. However, the voice ends up missing something (which I cannot put my finger on) ...
Most of the tutorials out there on Youtube get a piece of the puzzle done (again, the Flanger modulation settings) however none seem able to get the voice dead on. Is there a plug-in for Adobe Audition to mimic the ring modulator which is used by the BBC? What other adjustments to an audio file would you suggest after messing with the Flanger modulation to get that Dalek sound?

The thing that no emulation will ever give you is the voice of the actor playing the part - and that's important. One thing you need to do with the voice is to limit the dynamic range considerably, or the ring modulator will make even more mess than it's supposed to. You may also find that you need to pre-distort the voice too, before applying it to the ring modulator; the original hardware version wasn't as balanced as the emulations are, and added extra distortion that a modern emulation wouldn't. Also, you probably need to limit the bandwidth of the voice so that there's no bass above about 4-500 Hz in it. I don't think that limiting the higher frequencies matters that much, though.
But it really is a matter of experimenting.... HTH.

I need help making the scale tool return in the toolbox!
My co-worker is working in AI CS3 on a PC, and suddenly her scale tool isn't showing up in her toolbox. She may have hit an command key to make it disappear or something:
"I suddenly lost the ability to resize anything… a box, a text box, you name it. the selection tool will not add the side markers to anything… I know I hit something, I have started and restarted… help! I have no idea how to get it back… any advice?"
Also, she says this happens when she opens up other files or starts a new one. She can't access the scale tool at all.
I'm on a Mac using AI CS4 offsite (we're not on a network etc.), so I'm not sure what happened myself. Can anyone help us?

If tools are missing, the most probable reason is a preference corruption.
When opening Illy, she may press Ctrl+Alt+Shift down to delete and get a fresh start.
If that does not help, or if she wants a reversible resetting of preferences, she may follow the instructions in the hint Move the folder here: http://www.bugge.com/Family-and-friends/Illy/illy.html.
The folder name would be Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings. -
Help making a Install USB of os x 10.4.6. for my Macbook 1.8ghz

I need help making the USB install of os Tiger.
The drive is having trouble reading the install disc I own so I am trying to make a USB install of it.
I wantto install from the usb not install to it to be clear.
Things I have!
X1 8gig sandisk flash drive
1 Macbook white 1.8 ghz Intel
1 Pc with Macdrive 7
1 Install disc that seems to have trouble being read in the drive > few marks on the disc and the mac DVD drive make lots of noise reading it but
It will go to Disk utilities.
Seems to be a bug in Tiger and restore doesn’t seem to work as in I can’t drag and drop a source to the restore the DVD to the flash drive.
I already tried only 1 time to copy the DVD to the formatted flash drive using Macdrive and it read it as a bootable drive but the apple simple came up
And then I got a the error (Can’t find driver for this platform error APCH or something like that.
I have a torrent download of OS x 10.4.6 as well just in case some files are corrupted > I own the disk so it’s not illegal.
I am new to mac but long time user of PC.Ok ..you need another Mac to make this work!
you just use another mac even a old one like g4 to make a restore to a flash drive that you have formatted and verified.

Making the host call a "Format plug-in module" back with 'formatSelectorReadLayerStart'

I have some problems reading layers in the Photoshop SDK, and I would be glad if someone could give me hand with them. The thing is:
To date, I have managed to write a Photoshop "Format" module plug-in that is able to open files on my own graphic format. So far, so good. The problem is, this graphic format includes additional layers that I would like to open in Photoshop as well. The CS4 SDK documentation defines for this task:
- Three module selectors called 'formatSelectorReadLayerStart', 'formatSelectorReadLayerContinue' and 'formatSelectorReadLayerFinish'
- Since version 10.0, a member of the 'FormatRecord' struct called 'layerData' that reads: "Set by plugin in Start to tell host how many layers are in the document"
Well, I have set layerData to a value different than zero during the 'formatSelectorReadStart' but, still, Photoshop does not call my plugin with the selector 'formatSelectorReadLayerStart'. What can I be missing here? is there something else I have to set to force Photoshop to read the additional layers? maybe an undocumented PiPl property that tells PS that the plugin is able to read such layers?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Found the problem: the routine DoReadFinish() in SimpleFormat.cpp ( sample file format plug-in in SDK for CS4) has the routine DoReadFinish() as shown above. I just needed to delete the 2 lines related to smart object. Everything works fine after that. I had overlooked that routine a bit I suppose but those 2 lines do not add much to the undestanding othe plug-in mechanism and they should be deleted from the example IMHO. -
when i make calls, all i can hear is static, and when i plug in headphones or turn the speaker on, it still doesnt work. but facetime, music, an apps sound still work. help? iphone 5

It sounds like you are getting static on both the receiver and the speaker when you make a call. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article to help resolve the issue named:

Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings > Enable Airplane Mode, wait five seconds, then turn off airplane mode.
Check your phone settings:
Check your Do Not Disturb settings: Tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
Check for any blocked phone numbers: Tap Settings > Phone > Blocked.
See if Call Forwarding is turned on: Tap Settings > Phone > Call Forwarding.
Ensure that your software is up to date:
Check for a carrier settings update.
Check for an iOS software update.
Note: Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection.
If the iPhone has a SIM card, reseat the SIM card.
If the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4s is on the Verizon network, dial *228 from the iPhone and select option 2 to update the Preferred Roaming List (PRL). The PRL determines the cellular towers the phone uses for cellular service, selecting those with the best signal strength.
Reset the network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Try to make or receive calls in another location.
Attempt to isolate to one network band:
If you're having the issue on LTE, disable LTE, if possible, and try again.
If you're having the issue on 3G/4G, disable 3G/4G, if possible, and try again.
Contact the carrier to check the following:
Your account is properly configured to use the specific iPhone that has the issue.
There are no localized service outages.
Your account doesn't have a billing-related block.
Your calls don't have errors on the carrier system.
Restore the phone as new.
If the above steps don't resolve the issue, go to an Apple Retail Store, carrier, Apple Authorized Reseller, or contact AppleCare to send the phone in for service.

Ihave downloaded/paid for a plug in from adobe site (cracked backgrounds) it told me ti install Creative Cloud which i have done it shows the plug in on there as downloaded but i cannot install it into lightroom 5 to use? i have tried the plug in manger but it says cannot install plug in..also downloaded the Adobe extension manager cc but that does not add either....Please help first time i ave tried to install a plug in !!!!!! Please remember to unzip the file from your Downloads folder in order to load them into Lightroom.
What is the error in Lightroom?

my itunes will not open at all. it occasionally will open but when i plug my iphone into it the program freezes and crashes. please help as soon as possible
i think i might have a solution... i have windows vista and after i installed to latest itunes update everytime i tried to open it it would freeze. I tried everything, including uninstalling itunes and all of its components and reinstalled it numerous times. So i went to the itunes folder in my folders, not on itunes, and i deleted my itunes library and playlists. After that it worked just fine, all of my music was deleted but luckily i had my files saved elsewhere.

Thanks for that 'sberman' - because my iPhone is backed-up to my work computer (only at this stage) I have had to call our IT Department in Adleaide. (4 times this morning). The last guy managed to get the phone into 'DFU Mode' - no more recovery mode screen - (kind of 'asleep' perhaps) from my understanding of same. I am awaiting a call again from IT so they can get my computer to actually recognise my iPhone on the C Drive. This also happened to one of my colleagues in Newman (WA). She got so frustrated with the whole process that she bought another phone the next time she was in 'civilisation.' She hasn't had any problems since. (Cross fingers).

My iPhone 4 is shut off and wont turn back on, unless i plug it in an outlet & when i do that it says "connect to Itunes" & then i do that and the phone wont turn on & it shows nothing is plugged in . HELP!
& it keeps trying to turn on but it wont . like the apple logo pops up for a minute , then turns off.Had exact same problem. Rang Apple support and various apple repairers. All of them said in effect, too bad, you'll have to lose everything since your last backup. It's a work phone with very important stuff on it and the latest backup was on a computer that had a virus. Convergence of crap :/
Happened to talk to a friend who said to try replacing the battery. Did that. Problem fixed. All data saved.
To all Apple support people: rather than say 'once it's in recovery mode you lose all data' try saying 'replace your battery and see if that works first'!!!! -
iCloud is no longer syncing my calendar on my phone. I do gmail calendar both at home and at work, but it just stopped making the changes to my phone! I don't think I have changed anything and have run through setting to no avail. Can anyone help on this?

I'm trying to make a lopping .gif from an animation that I made. It's 147 total frames. It's crashed about 6 times now every time I either try and Save for Web or even just save the document on my desktop so in case it crashes I can reopen PS and recover it. Making the image size smaller (original size is 1920 x 1080 with resolution 72) does not help, it still makes the *ding* error when I attempt to save. I made the image more than half of the original size and the Save for Web box actually came up that time, but when I tried clicking save it said there was an error and PS crashed without warning.
Look at the crash report for your Photoshop crashes see what they show

When you saw this dialog box, did you choose "Erase and Sync"?
If you did, your iPhone was erased, then your iTunes Library was transferred to it. If your iTunes Library was empty, your iPhone will be also.
Your previously purchased music, apps, books, and videos are still yours. You just have to download them again.

Just got a new IPAD3, straight out of the box, but I cant charge it, I have tried with the power plug and cable out of the box that came with it but no joy, i have tried resetting the iPad but still no joy, have tried different mains plug sockets around the house with no joy, I have tried different USB mains plugs but again no joy, I tried using my new iPad cable into the USB port of my MacBook Pro laptop but still no joy, then, I tried using my old iPod classic cable into my MacBook Pro and that worked, so I have a way of charging my new iPad3 but its not practical as i have to take my MacBook Pro everywhere if I want to charge it which kind of defeats the object of having an iPad, has anybody experienced anything similar and how was it fixed? can anybody help me please...

Please note it did say at the store's discretion, but people have actually been able to return it to the on-line store. (I only saw a couple who tried.)
And given the outcry, I would think Apple might have other Apple stores join in. Just in case, though, if you can, you might bring it in today.
If it's an ARS, my guess is they can stick to their 14 day return. Apple cannot force them to do it. SO if it's not bought directly from Apple, and it's past the 14 day deal, I'd bring it in to the store today if you have one. When I gave people the cnet.com site, I gave it so people could read it and know only Apple had made the decision for Apple. And I suggested to some that an Apple reseller would probably stick with their own return policy.
Because Arnie had just bought his, he should be able to return it to Apple or an ARS because an ARS has to have some kind of full refund or at least return for credit within 7 or 14 days of purchase.

If your requirement is after selecting the document no from f4 help then the corresponding year should be updated in the document year field then use FM --> DYNP_VALUES_UPDATE
