Rman backup for rac by oem

Br,Hi,
DB : 10.2 and 11.2
How to schedule rman backup for cluster  in OEM?How to schedule without OEM?
If one of the node failed,Is it possible to  run in another node automatcially?
How to schduel export/datadump in rac by oem?
Br,
Raj

I Am not using oem, without oem you should write several scripts....
for linux hot backup(archive log enabled):
bck.sh
set ORACLE_SID=mydb
set ORACLE_HOME=....
rman target sys/.... @'.../bck.ora'
bck.ora
run
BACKUP AS COMPRESSED BACKUPSET FORMAT "..../db_%d_%T_%s_%p_%U.bak" INCREMENTAL LEVEL 0 DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG DELETE INPUT FORMAT "...../archivelogBackup/arch_%d_%T_%s_%p_%U.bak";
delete force noprompt obsolete redundancy 3;
backup FORMAT '..../ctl_%d_%T_%s_%p_%U' current controlfile spfile;
And create executable job which instance_id=1 and will run your bck.sh script and create schedule for this job, when first node will down you must change instance_id attribute to second one, and be sure that all backup paths exists in all nodes.

  • RMAN backup on RAC

    Hi,
    DB=10.2.0.4 OS=RHL (RAC with 2 nodes db01,db02). Following are the types of automated RMAN backups taken on db01.
    - OCR
    - Voting Disk
    - Talespaces Snapshot
    - Archivelog (every hour)
    - Backup Incremental level 0 (SUNDAY)
    -- backup incrementa level 1 (Mon-SAT)
    - Autobackup of Control file and SPFILE (CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON)
    Two main questions please. First, are these backups/backup types are enough FOR FULL RESTORE when talking about RMAN backup on RAC environment with 2 nodes? If not please suggest what else I need to backup?
    Secondly, backup home location is /rman which I can see on db01 ONLY. This /rman directory I cannot see on db02. My question is that In case of db02 failure can I restore from this /rman directory? or do I need to automate backup schedules also on db02 separately?

    Hi,
    THanks alot for your feedback. Makes my life easier :) . But actually I started studying this all subject because of the following error message in the log file. I found out about this error that doesn't seem to harm. Just wait for the job to finish or it will sort out automatically. Here are the lines from the log file.
    Fehler in Backuplogs gefunden:/oracle/log/fcp11-backup-2300.log: RMAN-00571:

    Node 1
    RMAN> show all;
    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO '/oracle/product/10.2.0/db/dbs/snapcf_fp11.f'; # default
    Node 2
    RMAN> show all;
    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO '/oracle/product/10.2.0/db/dbs/snapcf_fp12.f'; # default
    Thing which I just noticed regarding the above RMAN error is that snapcf_fp11.f can be seen on the Node 1 on todays date but snapcf_fp12.f was only on 10th jan.
    [oracle@db01dbs]$ ls -lrth
    -rw-r----- 1 oracle oinstall  20M Feb 27 15:10 snapcf_fcp11.f
    [oracle@db02dbs]$ ls -lrth
    -rw-r----- 1 oracle oinstall  20M Jan 10 13:28 snapcf_fcp12.fTHe few lines from the book which I mentioned above are: (Though you might not need to read those lines):
    "You need to move the snapshot control file to a shared location if you plan to run backups from more than one node. If you do not move the snapshot control file to a shared file system such as OCFS or an ASM disk group, then you must make sure that the local destination is identical on all nodes."
    My question is of course, how to sort out the above log file error. Becuse in our case, backups are run only from one node, and snaphost control file is not being moved to ASM disk groups. Local destination is also same on both the Nodes, isn't it (with different names). Why on Node 2 last snapshot was taken on 10th jan while on Node 1 it is todays date which seems fine.
    Control file and SPFILE which I noticed are stored on ASM disk groups also, so being shared between the two Nodes.
    (Sanme names/same location for control file and SPFILE on Node 1 and Node 2)
    Control file:
    +REDO1/fp1/controlfile/current.256.652803827
    +DATA1/fp1/controlfile/current.441.652869697
    SPFILE:
    +DATA1/fp1/spfilefcp1.oraPlease suggest.
    Thank you.

  • Related to Unused compression in RMAN backup for 10.2.0.4 database

    Hi
    I recently read through one of the document related to Unused compression in RMAN backup for 10.2.0.4 database. According to this
    Unused Block Compression is done, if all of the following conditions apply:
    + The COMPATIBLE initialization parameter is set to 10.2
    + There are currently no guaranteed restore points defined for the database
    + The datafile is locally managed
    + The datafile is being backed up to a backup set as part of a full backup or a level 0 incremental backup
    + The backup set is being created on disk.
    I have two queries
    1) What is meant by "uaranteed restore points defined for the database"
    2) If backup is being directly taken to tape, this feature would not be used
    Rgds
    Harvinder

    1. Normal and Garanteed Restore Points
    2. No

  • How to RMAN backup in RAC with OCFS

    hi,
    Iam using RAC 10.2.0 in windows 2003 server with OCFS .. i want to take backup using RMAN utility. can any sugest me how take RMAN backup..
    Thanks
    harish

    The only real consideration in RMAN on RAC is a one-off configuration issue as to whether the snapshot controlfile is written to the shared disk or not (it needs to be on the shared disk, or on a location that is common to all nodes, otherwise a backup that includes the control file will fail at the point a node tries to write it to a destination directory that only made sense to another node).
    Otherwise, there's not a lot that's different about an RMAN backup in RAC versus non-RAC.
    Simple answer, as a result: open a DOS window, type rman target /, then type backup database;

  • RMAN backup for two databases with similar DBID

    We have two databases with SID 'uiivc' and 'uiivc1' running from one of the HP Unix 11.11 PA-RISC server. I did configured RMAN backup for both databases. But it is found that both databases have same DBID [connected to target database: UIIVC (DBID=3005194057) for UIIVC & connected to target database: UIIVC1 (DBID=3005194057) for UIIVC1] and backup configured via crontab seen running fine with full backup at weekend and archivelog backup at daily for both databases. Now my query is that will it create any issues at time of restoration since both databases have similar DBID? Does RMAN uses DBID to distinguish databases?
    Kindly help to clarifiy

    Hi Tycho,
    I configured RMAN to store controlfile backups in different folders on each database.

  • Please help with RMAN dup for RAC db

    Happy Holidays!! All,
    I need help with the following issue:
    Both target and auxiliary databases are:
    Database version is 10.2.0.3 with 2-node RAC db
    Servers are MS 2003
    Oracle Clusterware 10.2.0.3
    Oracle ASM for storage
    I have run the rman dup from RAC to a single instance db for a while. This is the first time I ran from RAC to RAC. This auxiliary db was refreshed before and was up for a while and was managed by server control tool. Now I am trying to refresh it with new backup files from production. I did the following as people suggested:
    1)     shutdown instance in the second node.
    2)     Startup nomount mode in the first node
    3)     Run RMAN dup
    It failed in the same place with slightly different errors. I pasted error messages at the bottom. I already created a TAR with Oracle but would like to know if anybody has any info related to this. Also I have several questions to ask:
    1)     Should I stop all services related to Oracle in node-2
    2)     Should I stop all clustware related services in node-1 except oracleCSServie since ASM uses it?
    3)     Is there any way I can finish the dup manually from the place I failed? What going to happen if I don’t finish the rest of the dup and go ahead with “alter database open resetlogs”?
    4)     How do I remove the database from under Server control – I already run “srvctl remove database -d atlrac” successfully. Is this all?
    Thanks a lot for your help and have a great holiday season!!!

    1) Should I stop all services related to Oracle in node-2
    No, you just need to stop the second instance.
    2) Should I stop all clustware related services in node-1 except oracleCSServie since ASM uses it?
    No, you don't need to stop anything. Just have the instance startup nomount.
    3) Is there any way I can finish the dup manually from the place I failed? What going to happen if I don’t finish the rest of the dup and go ahead with “alter database open resetlogs”?
    You have not shown enough information. Did the restore succeed ? Did the recover succeed ? What was it doing when it failed ?
    4) How do I remove the database from under Server control – I already run “srvctl remove database -d atlrac” successfully. Is this all?
    Yes, srvctl remove database is all you need. (unless you also want to remove from listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, oratab etc)

  • Is it necessary to take RMAN backup for ASM

    Hi all
    I also know we need RMAN to take backup for ASM . But i also seen its possible to take backup by using dd command itself on ASM . Why we need RMAN rather than this method . What is the specific reason we using RMAN,

    its possible to take backup by using dd command itself on ASM Very bad idea.
    1. You'll run into the classic "fractured block" issue when attempting a recover or reading a block after the restore
    2. RMAN can be used to
    a relocate individual datafiles,
    b duplicate / clone database,
    c restore to an alternate server,
    d copy / move from ASM to filesystem
    e verify for corruption
    f generate reports on backups taken
    None of which dd of ASM will do reliably (depending on the skills of the DBA/SA).

  • Rman backup for tablespaces

    Dear,
    i want to use rman to backup the tablespaces. I have write a pram file as below.

    How can i run this file from rman
    ManyThanks

    It appears that you have created a parfile for the export utility and NOT for RMAN. The basic command to backup a tablespace in RMAN is:
    RMAN> BACKUP TABLESPACE USERS;If you are looking to actually export a tablespace, you can save the following to a file called user_parfile.txt
    userid=system
    file=d:\user_exp.dmp
    log=d:\user_exp.log
    tablespaces=users
    buffer=81920and execute as:
    exp parfile=d:\user_parfile.txt

  • RMAN Backups for archive logs

    Hi,
    We are taking daily backups using BCV's and archive backup to tapes using RMAN. Please note we are using RMAN only for archive backups.
    We are changing our backup strategy and I need below information on RMAN.
    1) Is there any benefit I will be getting if I use RMAN for archive backups ( like finding the courruption in the logs,health of the archive) etc? Any reference note for this would be great.
    2) If I use multiplexing of archives using LOG_ ARCHIVE_DEST & LOG_ ARCHIVE_DUPLEX_DEST with this I want RMAN to take the backup of archives and delete from one location only ( Say from LOG_ ARCHIVE_DEST ). And I want the archives in LOG_ ARCHIVE_DUPLEX_DEST to maintain on my own ( Like different purge strategy to zip and keep for 7 days in this location.
    If I use command "backup archivelog all delete input" it is picking and removing radomly from either of these locations. Is there a way I can configure RMAN so that it will not touch my secondary locaton?
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks,

    You can use validate backupset command to check the health of backup.

    Yes, you can do that.

    You can allocate channels for that.

  • Copy RMAN backups from RAC ASM

    Hi, I have 2-node (RHEL 5.8) RAC database with ASM shared storage. RMAN is doing daily backups on this ASM storage too. How could I copy backups from ASM to another place ? I'm using version 10gR2 db, and there is no "cp" command in asmcmd.

    Use command

  • Configuring rman backup for oracle on rac cluster

    Hi GURUS
    We are buying installation oracle rac on a two node server. We do backup our db using rman and TSM .
    Does anyone have any guidance on using TSM scheduled TDP backups with
    Oracle RAC multi-node?
    More to that, is it possible to have multiple archive log destination?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    David

    While you can have archives going to different destinations, on different nodes, it is not advisable because if these destinations are not reachable in case of a node/system failure, you have no access to these archive logs.
    Actually for easy accesibility it would be better to place the archive logs of all instnaces on shared storage. If you are using ASM and using a FRA disk group, you may want to have your archives go into this location.
    NFS mounting filesystems could be slower and may have certain perforamance implications.
