RoboHelp 10 - SVN Issue

Hi there,
We are having an issue with RoboHelp 10 and SVN (Subversion 1.7.5).
Say, for example, I add three new topics to an online help project, close the project and commit the changes. My colleague performs an SVN update - she can see that the new files are brought down from the server. The new files are then visible in the physical RoboHelp project folder - so SVN has done its job. However, when she opens the online help project on her machine, the three new files are appearing with the red 'X' in the table of contents - suggesting RoboHelp cannot find the files (as per the image below). The files are also not displayed in the project manager pod. However, if we perform a manual import in the project manager, the files are added to the project manager and no longer displayed with the red 'X' in the table of contents.
This has only happened since we upgraded to RH 10 from RH 9. Could it be that there is some setting that we need to configure?

Hi there,
Just to follow up - our tools department is convinced that this must be a problem with RH rather than SVN as SVN seems to be doing what it should. So we are really quite lost! Do you know if it's possible to reinstall RoboHelp 9? Could that be a solution?
The Import/Restore option doesn't work in the case where a team member creates a new file inside a new directory in the project manager. In this case, RoboHelp doesn't seem to be able to pick up the new directory after the SVN commit and update - and so it can't find the file at all. Restore and import do work, however, where a new file is added at root level or in an existing folder.

  • Robohelp PDF issues

    Hello All,
I am using Robohelp 9 to generate PDF output. I have used used List Styles
extensively in my project. However, when I generate PDF output list styles
    are not getting aligned properly.
    Please assist.
    Thanks,
    Panendra P.

Was the project first created in Rh9 or is it an upgrade from an earlier version? I ask as there was an issue with lists on first upgrading to Rh8 or higher. That is described on my site.
Have you checked that you get the same if you output to Word first?
Aligning lists when generating printed documentation has always been a problem. Multilevel lists seem to align better. Also see the Printed Documentation pages on my site.
Post back if you cannot resolve this.

  • Robohelp Image Issues

Not all the time but frequently, robohelp won't display an
    image i insert.
I add the image as normal, it appears in the project file
list, robohelp copies it into the project directory and it gets
displayed on the page. However i export for printed documentaton
and webhelp and no image is displayed, In web help i get the box
with red cross, and in word i get nothing at all.
I haven't got any build tags applied and the images are in a
    standard .bmp format.
any help or ideas would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum.
I didn't advise not to use them, I only said they are not
normally used which is a bit different. That is simply because of
their relative size. Bitmaps can be quite large and that increases
the download time so it takes longer before the page can be read.
Here's what Adobe's Dreamweaver help says about image types:
"Many different types of graphic file formats exist, but
three graphic file formats are generally used in web pages--GIF,
JPEG, and PNG. Currently, GIF and JPEG file formats are the best
supported and can be viewed by most browsers.
PNG files are best suited for almost any type of web graphic
due to their flexibility and small file size; however, the display
of PNG images is only partially supported in Microsoft Internet
Explorer (4.0 and later browsers) and Netscape Navigator (4.04 and
later browsers). So unless you are designing for a specific target
audience using a browser that supports the PNG format, use GIFs or
    JPEGs for broader accessibility."
I believe the main browsers will read bitmaps but it sounds
like you could hit problems with other browsers.

I know Dev1 changed the model first, (so Dev2 is "out of date") so I refresh Incoming Changes expecting to see a few, but I get Zero changes.
    So now what?

I just tested this again with a much smaller model and got the same result.
I need to clarify the order though:
    1. Developer 1 checks out and opens a design.
    2. Developer 2 checks out and opens same design
    3. Dev1 modifies the design (makes a few columns mandatory in one table) and saves it to SVN
    4. Dev2 makes a changes and tries to save it but gets this error:

In my 2nd test case before Dev2 made a change (#4), we tried to do the refresh incoming but again saw Zero incoming changes (which is clearly wrong).
Am I doing something in the wrong order or missing a step (basically trying to replicate the process from Sue's old video)

  • Flash Animations (.swf) with RoboHelp for Word

    Hello everybody,
Sorry for my english ..... but I need an information. Is it
possible to insert a "Shockwave Flash Object" (.swf) in a RoboHelp
    project (For Word) ?
Today, I can just insert movies with the extension (.avi)
Could you help me please ?

I've know RoboHelp have issues finding Word or working with the wrong security settings. What I have not known it do is affect the running of Word when Word is run alone. For that reason, I think your problem is with Word.

  • Error launching Word with Robohelp for Word

I have a test rack at work with a machine dedicated to Robohelp, which we just purchased and set up to replace our very old and outdated solution. It has Robohelp 8 on Windows 7, with Office 2007. Since the Robohelp installation, Word has consistent and constant crashes, giving an error claiming that Macros are required but unable to start. I entered the Trust Center in Word as instructed, and reset macros, but to no avail. Attempting to launch Word in Robohelp for Word causes an exception and error. Launching Word on its own also causes the same error. I've tried a Office repair, to no avail. Does anyone have any experience with this issue?

  • ANT Debug

I'm trying to use ANT with Flash Builder 4 to compile and debug.
The compiling is the easy part but having trouble to get the debugger to work.
I want to use ANT to Debug SWF file inside Flash Builder, so that breakpoints, console traces and everything works as it should.
My script so far. Builds The *.as to *.swf and moves from bin-debug to deploy folder. How can I start a Flash Builder Debugger for the created SWF?
<!-- this opens the file in Flash Debug Player, but Flash Builder IDE doesn't understand this? -->
    <exec executable="open" vmlauncher="true" spawn="false" failonerror="true">

A little bit on the way but still one thing.
I'm running my ANT script to tell the FDB to go
    <exec executable="${fdb}" failonerror="true"></exec>
In the folder where I execute (project root) i placed .fdbinit with the following code
    run ./deploy/GameOffice.swf
    continue
    continue
    continue
I've even tried to run a shell script that only starts the fdb in the projet folder, but the results are the same.
Seems like that when flash has been loaded and is showing in the Flash Debug Player the Console terminates FDB and that will close the Flash window.

  • Double-loading pages in Firefox

Hoping someone else has seen this and has a quick answer.
When I publish my project (RH6) and open it in Firefox 2, clicking
on links frequently flashes the page loaded by the link, but then
reloads the page from which the link was originally clicked.
Clicking on the link a second time then seems to work and loads the
    linked page.
    Any thoughts?
    Patrick

Thanks, but I've found all of those already. I wouldn't call
this the answer by any means.
The only "solution" I've seen posted yet, is to not use
linked books (i.e. books which are linked to pages themselves).
This is not a viable solution for me, as my project has hundreds of
those. And obviously it should work with those, otherwise RoboHelp
wouldn't let you link books to pages. The product doesn't do what
it is supposed to when the end user uses Firefox. That is a bug
which has not yet been resolved.
I would have thought that this is either a problem with
Firefox mis-interpreting the javascript used by RoboHelp or that
there is a genuine problem with the scripting provided by RoboHelp.
Either way, it appears to be a 2+ year old problem with hasn't been
addressed by the makers of RoboHelp (which has obviously changed
    numerous times over the years).
The problem is NOT addressed in RoboHelp 6 (issued by Adobe).
I've already posted in another forum to find out if it's been
addressed in RoboHelp 7, but I'm not getting my hopes up as I've
    not had any responses.
I find it hard to believe that, with all of the other script
fixes that have been posted for other problems, this one hasn't yet
been figured out by anyone. It must be tricky.
My only other note is the symptom only occurs when the
containg book is un-expanded. That is, if the book containing the
page to which you've linked is expanded, even if it's multiple
levels deep and all other books above it are collapsed, the problem
doesn't occur. It only occurs if the book directly above the page
you're trying to load (containing that page) is collapsed.

  • Will robo html 6 output work with robo server 7?

I'm sure this is answered somewhere but I have such a hard time searching this forum....  I''m using Robo HTML 6 to create webhelp. Doesn't work with our old X5 RoboEngine. Procurement only offers Robo Server 7. Can I use that with my Robo 6 webhelp output?
    thanks!

    Hi there
I stand to be corrected on this as I'm not the best resource for RoboHelp Server issues. But I think if you have RoboHelp 7, you need it on both sides. RoboHelp Server 7 and RoboHelp WebHelp Pro output generated from version 7.
Hopefully my colleage and fellow Adobe Community Expert John Daigle or another author more familiar with the Server component will pop in here to confirm or deny.

  • Images saved in PS CS5 show as red boxes

The folks in the Photoshop forum say that this is a RoboHelp 7 issue, so here I am.
My company recently upgraded me from Photoshop CS2 to CS5. Now, when I update an image in CS5, it shows up as a small red square in RoboHelp 7. If I re-open the image in CS2 and resave it, it loads correctly in RoboHelp. I've checked the save settings in CS2 and CS5 and they match and have not been able to find anything in RoboHelp that would change how it loads images saved in CS5.
So, is there a setting I'm missing in either CS5 or in RoboHelp that would get the images to show up correctly in RoboHelp?
    Thanks in advance,
    -darlisa

    Hello again
I've been performing my own testing from this end. I just used an existing JPG image, then edited it in PS5 and saved back as JPG and am seeing what you are reporting. Definitely something is amiss here. CS5 HAS to be doing SOMETHING to the format because as you said, if the image isn't touched by CS5 it appears just dandy. But once you make any sort of a change to it in CS5, poof! (or is that a crash?)
I reached out to a Photoshop guru friend and she is stymied as well. Said it shouldn't be happening. As a workaround, you can save as PNG and that should work. I'll send a note to the RoboHelp developers and see if they have an answer. Maybe they can engage in a conversation at Adobe that will result in something.
In the mean time, you should consider filing a Bug Report on this to report it to Adobe. I'll also report from my end. (Link to the Bug Report form is in my sig)

  • Can TOC contain hyperlinks to external docs?

    WebHelp, RH9
Can I build a TOC that consists of a list of hyperlinks to external Word documents -- by which I mean Word docs not linked or imported into the project but instead, residing on a shared network drive in an intranet environment. When the user clicks the TOC entry, the Word doc would open either in the content pane or in a new browser window.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi all
In addition to what others have said, I'll also offer this. Even on a "fast" intranet, a Microsoft Word document can take a long time to open.
<Begin scratchy little old man voice here>
Sonny, back in the day when I was a young whippersnapper, when I was in the corporate world, I did the same thing myself. And because opening the document always took longer than most would reasonably expect, I developed a technique that I coined as "docfetch".
I created a separate page in my project for each link. Then linked the TOC to those pages. On the page itself I added some verbiage along the following lines: Please wait as your document is opened.
Then I configured this page to perform a meta redirect that opened the document a second or two later.
This caused the users to stop flooding my inbox to say things were "broke". Also, at that time RoboHelp had issues where it would lose the links to things like documents from the TOC. So it prevented that from happening too.
To configure a meta redirect, just add the following meta tag to your HTML:
    <meta HTTP-EQUIV=refresh CONTENT="2;URL=G:\SomeFolder\SomeDocument.DOC">

  • RH7 - getting snippet apj error message

I'm using RoboHelp 7 HTML with WebHelp Pro layout.  I had an existing snippet that I was linked not being used in any help topic so I deleted it. In addition, I moved snippets up and down in the Snippet pod so that they would appear in alphabetical order. I did save my snippets using Save All after I deleted and moved them around.
However, I noticed that the snippet that I thought had been deleted was still down at the bottom of the list in the Snippet pod. When I tried to delete it again, I got the following error message.
FYI - I restored my backup project and tried some of the same actions again. Moving snippets and then deleting the one that wasn't being used. Got the same error message.
How do I resolve this snippet problem in RH7?

Thanks. I tried that and still got the same error message.  I even put the snippet names in alphabetical order via Notepad. However, when I re-opened RoboHelp 7 and the snippet pod, the names were still out of sequence. I would have thought the pod view would be updated to match the sequence in my apj file but that didn't happen.
When I resequenced (moving them up and/or down in the pod view) and saved, everything seemed okay.  But then I tried to delete one of the snippets that was not being used anywhere and got the same error message.
I'm hoping this is just a RoboHelp 7 issue and that things will be okay when I upgrade to version 8.

I've created a WebHelp Help system using RoboHelp 8.0 HTML.  When I open a Help topic in FireFox 13 and click Print to print the topic, I get a "Printer Unavailable." error message.  When I click OK to the message, the topic prints anyway.  When I open a Help topic in IE and go through the same sequence, I don't see the "Printer Unavailable" message before the topic prints.
I know this may be a FireFox configuration issue rather than a RoboHelp HTML issue, but perhaps someone else out there has run into this behavior in FireFox and found a way to stop the "Printer Unavailable." error message from appearing.

Interestingly I was speaking to someone yesterday and they had the same issue with something entirely separate from RoboHelp.
That prompted me to starting entering Printer Unavailable into Google. Predictive searches showed this is a well known problem.
Try Google. I think you will need to involve your developers.

  • Damaged file type

I was working on a Captivate 3 file on my desktop earlier
this week, but when I try to open it now, I get a message that i
can not open it either because it is not a supported file type or
    the file has been damaged.
I had published it to a standalone file and then copied it
back to our network drive this morning, since there are known
issues with working on a Captivate file tha t is stored on a
    network drive.

    Welcome to our community, Rob
Sorry you lost work. Lemme guess, while you lost the source,
    you
still had a working .SWF or .EXE of the file, no?
For you (and others) I would highly encourage all to submit a
Wish Form asking for the development team to create a Captivate
Decompiler tool. One that allows us to run it, aim it at a working
and functional .SWF or .EXE file, then decompile that back into a
valid .CP file so we don't lose work like this. You submit the Wish
    Form using the link below:

Here's a little tip I discovered that may or may not help. I
thought I had totally lost a Captivate I was working on just a few
days ago. In my situation, I was using RoboHelp HTML and inserting
Captivate movies into my project. I seem to have discovered that if
I have just created a Captivate movie and published it, then hopped
over to RoboHelp HTML and attempt to insert the movie, I can't.
RoboHelp balks. At least it balks until I pop back over to
Captivate and close the project. (I leave the application open and
simply close the project). After closing the project in Captivate,
the movie comes sailing into RoboHelp.
Okay, so I have my movie in RoboHelp and decide it needs a
tweak. I pop back over to Captivate and attempt to open the project
via the MRU list on the start page. I was shocked to see that
Captivate greeted me with a nice little message that it was unable
to find the file. Huh? I had JUST created it!
After poking around in the location where the file WAS, I
managed to find a file with a .TMP extension. So on a hunch, I
renamed from .TMP to .CPD and voilà! My project opened.
I'm not sure if this would have worked in your case, as it
may be a RoboHelp/Captivate issue. But thought I'd toss it out here
    just in case.
    Cheers all... Rick
