RoHS (lead free) in MSI boards

Does anybody know for sure, if new MSI boards are being manufactured using standard SnPb solder, or only with the lead free one?
Since MSI claims that their motherboards use Military Grade III components (i.e. highly reliable), they should use the SnPb solder as the most reliable solution too.
(Military devices have an exception from the RoHS directive)
I just bought the ZH77A-G43 board, so I wonder if it lasts at least for 5-10 years.

The conventional Sn60/Pb40 and Sn63/Pb37 solders are not used by any hardware manufacturer for a long time ago.
It's not only about the WEEE/RoHS directives.
It's more about melting points and oxidation.
But don't waste your time with all of these.
In our local "museum" we have this mainboard: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/815-Pro.html
It's 12 years old, it doesn't understand the "Military Class" concept, but it's still working just fine !!!

  • Where are the USB drivers for my MSI board??

Got a new MSI board- VIA KM266 Pro + 8237 Chipset Based. I installed my new AMD 2300+, WIN XP, etc. I have a USB printer. Got everything installed, printed a test page, and then a document. Everything fine. THEN, I go to use my printer a few days later and it says "Printer not responding". So I troubleshoot, and then go into Device Manager and notice there are no USB devices installed. The new MSI board has 4 USB ports on it. The CD that came with the board has no USB drivers on it (I checked). WIN XP has no USB drivers. What is going on? How do I get the USB ports to work? Am I looking at it all wrong? Appreciate any help out there!

  • Cant see or control case fans on MSI board

I just upgraded my PC to Devils Canyon and h87-g41 pc mate. Everything is working fine... except i cant see my installed case fans and they are running on max (i assume) and making a lot of noise.
The very old board i upgraded from had option in bios for automatic fan control under overclocking (if i remember correctly). I set it to automatic and case fans were controled based on temperatures.
But the new msi board cant detect them correctly. SPeedfan and cpuid hwmonitor does not show them, and they are not show in bios. And i cant seem to find any settings for case fans.
Only fan it detects is the aux fan at the back of the fan and controls it automatically.
I used Live Updater and did total install, so i should have all the drivers.
I plugged them in right, used the pins and not the molex.

On your board, CPUfan1, CPUfan2, and Sysfan1, are the only fan headers that are setup for sensing, the other two are 3 pin headers and very likely have no sensor on them.... as far as BIOS or any software are concerned, they simply are not there, if you need them controlled, you might have to buy a fan controller.
You could plug one of your case fans into CPUfan2, if that header is not being used, and then you would have full sensing and control of it.

  • No free resources MSI-8876 TV@nywhere

    No free resources MSI-8876 TV@nywhere:
okies, I just got this card, pluged it in...
Went to install drivers, took 30 minuites after hanging at the "backing up" stage....
Finaly after installing it, rebooted and found the device has a conflict, claiming it cant find enough free resources. Flip to the resources page to find nothing....
Can some one tell me what IRQ, IO and DMA (if it uses it) settings this card likes to use? I have pleanty free.
Also can some one tell me if this card has a hardware MPEG1,2,4 encoder, because judging from the manual its software based encoding, which i know is NOT capable of real time encoding like advertised.
    Thanks for your time
    Danni

    Yeah, as i expected.
Nothing on my system is using IRQ 10.....  ?(
This is starting to get very annoying, especialy the part that i can force it to use a specific set of resources...  ;(
But hey... at least the forum has a good set of emoicons  :D
Does the "Tech only" jumpers have anything to do with IRQ settings?
    Thanks for your help

  • Ati card, msi board, kingston ram, blank screen at reboot.

i see an awful lot of listings in this forum for the problem of screen remaining blank after reboot.
i also see the psu being blamed and yet it has almost never solved the issue for people.
there is a problem and there is no solution right?
all my components are fine, they are up to 'spec' yet they dont work, why?
i am fed up with opening my pc to tweak it, reset cmos, unplug drives, check power supply. at this rate i am going to fry something. you cant keep doing these things without f'ing something up, its messing with probabilities. a half dozen times? fine. dozens? youre screwed.
there is something going on with the mb. i see others claim all boards with that chipset have issues. so what? it is still an MSI issue since i have an MSI board.
i set everything up according to instructions and i am screwed. MSI lied to me and to you.
the board does not run as it claims. i can not run a chip at its normal speed with a graphics card it should. again why? nothing is oc'd, all temps are norma, even with noting but mb, vid card and ram, its screwed.
go ahead and blame my temps, blame my psu, blame ati but at the end i have an MSI board that does not perform as sold.
i also see a lot of mention of previos bios versions working better. again seems like MSI is screwing around with us. i have so many spare parts from trying to get this board to run well that i can build another pc. it will NOT be MSI.

Same thread in the bios section already so this one is closed.

    Hi Liam,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I added the "Gift voucher" field back in as suggested and tested the process out again. I now get the following error instead: ERROR: You've chosen gift voucher as the method of payment but no gift voucher is associated with this order. Please go back and enter in a gift voucher code or choose a different method of payment [ERROR: 4]. Please go back and correct this.
Do you know why this is?
As the item is free, do you advise keeping the same download process in place - going through the checkout?

  • HP DV-Series 6000 to 9500, lead free solder?

    Hi
I've been trying to find out if the HP DV-series was made with lead free solder?
    Thanks for any help.

The DV series with Nvidia GPU wasn't. This includes most of the DV2000/DV6000/DV9000 series- such as DV9207us.  Not to be confused with the newer DV6/DV7 series- such as DV6T 7000.

I was really surprised when I PCmarked my machine, have seen scores like 4765 on a p4 3.0 prescott with one gig on an Epox board rig, 4823 from an Abit, 4829 from biostar... with less ram than I've got.

Any one have some scores they could share with MSI boards as a point of comparison?

i pulled a 4917 running 3.6ghz with stuff running in background im streaming music from my pc to others so if i turned that off probly would jump to over 5000.  And checked my futurmark manager my other speed scores

  • How good are MSI Boards.

Just a question i see alot of problems listed in here with MSI boards.  Why should I buy a MSI Motherboard and not just stick with a Tyan.  Also does MSI make a board with out video and audio built in and with 2 comm ports?

Hi That's a real hard question to answer ,as what you see here is only a small sample of actual MSI board users. Just look at the views verses the posts numbers and you get an idea of how many peeps there are out there. I can only say that out of 4 MSI boards ,2 were bad boards. Both of those were PRO2A boards.and the RMA board came back with a bad floppy controller on the board. The other 2, both TURBO2 Ver.5 6330 boards have been excellent, with only 1 small problem, that turned out to be an OS problem. To many people are all to ready to blame the board, for user error, a problem that's probably responsible for at least 75% of the problems listed. . A look at other Motherboard sites and other forums will show you each manufacturer has thier share of problem with thier boards.Other things to consider are customer support,an area that MSI is working to improve. They now have a downloadable RMA form which should help in that area. All said and done,I will stick with MSI as long as customer support and warrenty are there BIGDADDY51CT.USA : :D    )

  • Mentioning non MSI boards

I saw that a recent post mentioning DFI boards was frozen. I came to MSI after a failed upgrade using an Abit motherboard. I ended up using all the components which wouldn't work together on the abit board on the MSI board without any problems. I felt that other Abit users having the same problem as me, and being told on the Abit forum to try swapping every component they had fitted, should be aware of my experience with swapping to the MSI.
Equally if MSI should ever produce a lemon of a product which is easily fixed by swapping the board for a DFI or Abit, then those poor suffering MSI users should be aware of it.
After all shouldn't potential Neo4 SLI users be made aware that MSI have cocked up the power requirements WRT -5v, and that other makes of boards with on board sound may well work without having to hunt down a hybrid 20/24 PSU?
Of course any such post should avoid making deflammatory comments about MSI.
And what MSI may lose due to truthfully negative posts here will be made up for posts on other companies sites recommeding MSI boards.

Point taken, however it was the context that helped me make the decision to lock it. I know enough, having been a member of this forum for at least three years, that threads posted in that context can, and do, become inflammatory, either towards MSI or other users.
As for your second and third sentence, I agree that documentation of issues with said product should be available, however, I, and my fellow mods may agree that the way the information is expressed can be a sensitive issue.
As far as the power issue with the Diamond board, I agree that was likely a poor decision on MSI's part, but it is a different approach to sound compared to other boards available of that caliber and genre, you could even go as far as saying that the board itself is a hybrid. And yes, user should be made aware of the requirements, but I do not condone telling someone to buy a competitors product in this forum. If you have the burning desire to do so, out of respect, do so indirectly. We have PM's, and e-mail options here.
As for the last sentence, I agree, however, it does not change the process or standards I follow, in making my decision to lock the thread.

  • Resurecting a MSI Board

This is awesome for MSI, although I did something totally stupid
I was very upset and arguing with my wife one day. I got so mad,    that I grabbed a glass of Coca-Cola and poured it all over my motherboard.    (Luckily the computer was not plugged in at the time)
I had drenched the board so bad that Coke was dripping from it.
After I calmed down, I then worked on salvaging my computer. I used Isopropyl Alcohol to clean every inch of my MoBo. I even poured a bunch of Alcohol through the MoBo, so that alcohol was dripping from the board.
I admit it wasn't the smartest thing to do, overall. But my computer is working again, and better than ever.
MSI Boards are great. I admit, I am very smart    but sometimes do some really stupid things.
I feel that it was only because MSI is great, and shear luck, that my computer works again.

So, you don't advise using any thing but Coke and Alcohol for doing it ?    Anyway, I would prefer not to be near you when you're angry.
A bit off: Do you like this Forum ? If your answer is yes, read the post on first page in this Forum " Forum Team on Strike...". If you want this Forum to stay as it is now, please send a mail to MSI. Adress is mentioned in first post.

  • Sound Storm on MSI boards?

Hi guys im looking at getting the GF a new computer and having had such a good experiance with the 875p NEO-FIS2R i would like to get another MSI board, i was thinking of getting her a lttle AMD Barton and on board sound storm would be great, i like the idea of it and it would fit her needs (she likes to make web pages, play a few games like CS and watch DVDs).
Now im not very familar with AMD boards and chipsets , can anyone tell me which if any MSI boards actually have the full blown Sound Storm setup? Also can anyone comment on it , performance , features and compatability?
Thnx in advance for your insights guys ,

Thnx guys , so i guess im looking at the K7N2 Delta-ILSR . I dont need the 400Mhz FSB as im betting ill only be putting in a 2500+ Barton but i want all the other nice features like Sound Storm , Live Update , built in 10/100 Ethernet and the D Bracket.
Anyone care to comment on this board , i plan on throwing in my Sony 40x 12x 48x , sony 16x DVD , prolly a ATI 9600/9700 pro AIW and likely either a seagate Sata drive or a Western Digital ATA133 HD. For ram im not sure likely some performance pc3200 - pc3500 tight timing Ram. If anyone sees any conflicts or perhaps have some ram they would think i should use id like to hear it.
    Thnx fellas

  • MSI board and card but.....

I can only run the card in 1x,2x mode. When I put it on 4x it frezes most times right after launch        have a K7 Master (6341) and an MSI G3 Ti200

......the funny thing is, I just bought a new MB. I got the msi kt4v. I Thought I had fried my other one so in haste I bought the new one. I have since got my old one working even better then before ( floppy was screwed up, just started working after all the other stuff I did...heh)save for the agp thing. Thats same as it was.
But, now I dont really wanna mess with takin my cpu out again. I lost 4 degrees on my cpu this last week when I reseated the HS. (I spent a lot of time making sure it was done right). And it already runs REALLY HOT> *68 to 73C*. So I really wanna figure this out.
I didnt have any games that really required more of my system but that has changed and its a bit hard to accept that I cant run an MSI GPU with an MSI MB.
They were both decent gear around the same time I purchased them, so it seems they should be compatable.
The local pro shop states *we have never heard of an MSI card not working with an MSI board*   but I didnt bother to have them check it out when it was under warranty so they would rape me if I took it to them.  NAd this post is so wordy cause Im at work and bored to death....
    shall I go on?
