? rotating numbers next to wifi symbol

Instead of seeing PPPoe next to my wifi symbol at top of my page I am getting a set of numbers that keep rotating. Is someone accessing my computer. What does it mean should I be worried and what do I do?

Well normally you use the router as a connection point to your ISP, whether that is cable or DSL. Most of the time all PPPoE connections are DSL and the router should handle all of that. Then all your wired or wireless devices connect to the router and get a Private IP address assigned by the DHCP server in the router.
Unless you are mistaking PPPoE for the SSID name of you WiFi network.
As to those numbers it looks like part of a MAC (Media Access Control) address. Except for the hyphens.
I've looked around my WiFi settings and don't see anywhere to enable those numbers in the Menu Bar.
Look at you IP address, does it start with 192 or 172 or 10? If it doesn't then you are getting a Public (Internet) IP address assigned to your computer. That isn't good as you are part of the internet instead of being on a Private LAN.
In that case you are using PPPoE on the computer to login to your ISP network. This should be changed ASAP.

Negative numbers that replace the wifi symbol when I try to use my work or home wifi

I have noticed that when I try to use the Wifi to send recieve data on my iphone 4, the wifi symbol is replaced by a negative number (eg: -55). The number will fluctuate up and down. I am brand new to the iphone (smartphones in gereral actually) and my concern is that my data usage over the 8 days I have had the phone has been astronomical. 90% of the data usage i have been doing as been over what i thought was my wifi network so i should not have been useing anywhere near the data as I have been.
Could this be causing my connection to automatically switch from my wifi to the network? Other iphone users i have shown this to have never seen this before.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm scared now to do anything data related on my phone for fear of the insane amount of data i seem to have used.

You have 2 problems. The first is the field test display. You should be able to resove this by rebooting the phone - hold the HOME and POWER buttons at the same time until an Apple log appears, ignoring the "slide..." message. Takes about 10 seconds of holding.
When the phone is asleep WiFi is turned off, so if you have any background processes running that use data they will use cellular data. If you cannot maintain a WiFi connection when the phone is awake first try rebooting your router. If that doesn't fix it go to the manufacturer's web site and update the router to the latest firmware version. If it happens with all WiFi networks, not just your home network, go to the Settings app - General/Reset - Reset Network Settings.
If you still have a WiFi problem after this take the phone to an Apple store and they will either fix it ore replace it.

SMS. Deggie, had them check that. After a lengthy discussion with Senior Tech advisor, it appears it is iMessage/Face Time server (they are the same) issue, which will strong arm those into purchasing Data if they use iMessage over multiple devices, as the server registers the phone number associated with apple ID. Pearl 9105 - WIFI Symbol greyed out

Hello forums,
I have an issue with my Pearl. The WiFi symbol has stayed greyed out even though it says it has connected to my WiFi, home network. It is similar to what happened during the outage that happened.
I have reinstalled the software (OS 5) O2 won't allow upgrade to OS6. I have deleted the WiFi connection and re installed, but still it won't go white and it is affecting my mobile data usage as my phone is using the network signal for internet rather than WiFi.
Any suggestions on how to solve?

Wait...so in Manage Connections > Services Status, the status of BIS is "Not Connected"? If so, then you have bigger issues...in which case I suggest (with your BB truly functioning on your carrier network...turn the WiFi radio off to be sure) the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
See if that get's the BIS Services Status to at least say "Mobile Network". If it does, then try WiFi again (a Service Book may have been missing, and the resend may have obtained it). Otherwise, if you can't register and/or can't receive Service Books, then contact O2 for formal support as your BB is not properly connecting to them.

The ONLY thing that happens is if, at some point when you seek formal support from O2, they discover that you are using an OS level that they do not sanction, then they can refuse to provide support to you until you fall back to their supported version. But thousands of folks (maybe millions???) are using OS packages from other carriers all the time with no ill effects whatsoever.
There is a "trick" necessary to use another carriers OS package...let us know if you desire to proceed down that path and we can provide what you need.

Wifi symbol won't show?

I have a 32 Gb 3G+wifi and for some reason my wifi symbol will not show up. I can still connect to it though and my 3G I made sure was turned off so it still works but the symbol won't show up. Right now in the top left it says "iPad" with no symbol next to it. Any suggestions? Thx in advance

Quickest thing to try is restarting the iPad. Hold the Sleep/Wake button until the 'slide to off' appears and slide it off. Then restart.
If that doesn't work you can try a full reset. Hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button until the Apple logo appears. Let it reboot.
You could also try resetting the network. Settings->General->Reset->Reset Network Settings.

WHAT IS LOCK SYMBOL NEXT TO BATTERY SYMBOL. LOCK HAS A CIRCULAR ARROW AROUND IT

can not seem to find out what the lock symbol with circle around it next to battery symbol is ...... any one know what it is and how to turn it off ?
never mind .... found the answer in another discussion post.. its a setting for locking out the rotation feature. problem solved.

IPad WiFi Connection Problems - WiFi Symbol Appears With Full Bars but I Don't Get A Checkmark?

I was using the iPad one day and then all of a sudden it stopped connecting to the internet. The network at this hotel is very good and I've asked them about their router so it is not the router's problem.
I go to the Settings and tap on Wi-Fi then I tap on the hotel network. After a few seconds, it says the network name beside the Wi-Fi tab and it gives me the WiFi symbol showing 3 bars. But then I never get the checkmark or tick saying everything is connected. I try going online and it says the iPad is not connected to the internet. I've tried an iPhone and it connected and got a checkmark in a few seconds. I've talked to the front desk and he took out his phone and showed me that he could connect, he even opened a page without any problems at all.
I've been trying to find a solution for this for a long time. I've been searching Google over and over again. I turned Airplane Mode on for 1 minute, I've tried Resetting my Network settings, I've tried forgetting the network and reconnecting again, I've tried removing all restrictions from the iPad, I've rebooted the iPad A LOT, etc.
So this is my problem for people who don't want to read the whole message:
1. I can't connect to the internet with the iPad
2. It shows the WiFi symbol saying its connected but I never get the checkmark or tick.
3. It's not the router problem.
4. I've tried other networks and it doesn't work. It just keeps on showing that loading circle right beside the network name.
5. Do any of you know what this problem is? Or do you have a solution?

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Macbook pro wifi symbol greyed out and will not recognize networks

My Macbook Pro has had an issue since this past fall of having its wifi symbol greyed out with an "X". It also does not recognize wifi networks as in simply no networks show up. Talked to Apple last week and they said to upgrade to Yosemite, but I am still having this issue. Help?

Have you used DVDs that have different region codes? It may be that your DVD drive is locked for a region code different from what Netflix is programmed for.

Because your iPhone is not connected to a wi-fi network or the wi-fi symbol would be shown.
"E" means your iPhone is connected to your carrier's EDGE network for internet access.

How do you print the numbers next to the first column

In Numbers I can't figure out how to print the numbers next to the first column to the left. Say I have 350 people on a list and I want to print the sheet with the numbers next to the people's name, how do I do that. Excel automatically does it. However, I cannot find the option to print and include the numbers from the standard Numbers worksheet. Thanks for your assistance.

In excel it is actually in the page setup dialog. under the "sheet" tab. Numbers doesn't have one table per page (excel is basically one large table of cells). So printing header and column labels doesn't really work in numbers, because those labels don't show up until you click inside the tables. If you notice when you do that they abstruct the view of everything else that might be near the edge of the table.
The other posters response is the best way to do it. you can get column Numbers (but not letters) by using the column command in an extra row at top also. Thre is a way if you really want column letters, but it ain't pretty. Let us know if you want that too.

What does the wifi symbol on the bottom left of photos in iphoto signify?

What does the wifi symbol on the bottom left of photos in iPhoto signify? I believe that whatever this signifies is preventing me from syncing an album with my iPad and iPhone.

It means the Photos are not in your Library but instead read from an online source.

Why is my wifi symbol greyed out?

As the title suggests - my wifi symbol is greyed out (as it used to look when no wifi was available). However - my wifi is working well (I'm on it now!).
I've done a bit of searching, and the closest problem I can see to this is when people have an exclamation mark on their wifi symbol. However - this isn't the problem I'm having.
Does anyone have any idea?

When I click on the symbol, all available networks are displayed. I can click on another network and connect that that fine too. Often, when I swap around wifi networks, the symbol becomes 'blacked out', as I'd expect, rather than greyed out.
When I click on System Preferences - Network, I see a green light with connected underneath.
Typically - yes, the symbol is greyed ouf from when I start the computer.

drsoif, this is the Portrait Orientaion Lock, which means you locked your phone in a way for it not to have landscaping mode. To correct this you will need to: double tap your home button and swipe to the right, first icon will be the icon with the ''arrow'' going in a circle, tap on it once and the lock will disappear:)
