Running DNS service for SCAN in the openfiler VM

Grid version     : 11.2.0.3
Guest OS     : Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.3
Host OS          : Windows 7 (64-bit ) with 16gb Physical RAM
Hypervisor : Virtual Box 4.2.6
Openfiler version : 2.99
Using virtualBox, I am setting up a 2-node RAC node on Oracle Linux.
I have a 3rd VM which runs openfiler ( NAS )
For using SCAN feauture, I would like to run a DNS service as mentioned in the article below
http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/linux/dns-configuration-for-scan.php
I don't want to run the DNS service in any of the two RAC nodes. Instead of creating a separate VM just for the DNS , I am thinking of running it in the Openfiler VM.
Openfiler is running in a Linux Distro called rPath. I am not sure if the packages mentioned in the above oracle-base.com article is available in this distro. Has anyone run a similair DNS service in the Openfiler OS ?

I doubt it.  OpenFiler is a "stripped-down" OS.
But Wait ! A Google search returned this : http://www.denbraber.org/?p=4

  • Do I have to run DNS service?

    I'm wondering if I have to use the DNS service on OS X Server. I understand what DNS is but I'm admittedly in over my head with DNS and how to operate it properly on the server. We always have connection issues with various services within our office network that we don't experience anywhere else (ie: when we take the same laptop out of the office and use it on another network). I'm convinced it's the DNS setup on our server, which I'm sure has gotten messed up from all the poking around. But do we even need to be running this service?
    The services we use on the server are VPN, iCal, File Sharing, and Blogs/Wikis. We have an airport extreme that serves DHCP router and our ISP supplied modem serves as our internet gateway and generic firewall (default settings).
    Some examples of random access/connection problems we have within our office that we don't have elsewhere:
    -email/web host access problems (new sub domains often do not appear unless we kill/reboot the DNS service)
    -screensharing via iChat never works within our office network (not sure if that's DNS related or not, just another one of those things that never works within the office, but works fine when we take laptops outside of the office).
    Any of this DNS related? Even if it's not, do I have to have DNS service running on our server?
    Thanks!!

    Bogus or buggy DNS can certainly cause issues, and so can a bad Ethernet cable or WiFi interference. Could be a misconfigured network. Could be somebody's corrupted the DNS configuration. Which of these might be the trigger in this case is difficult to say.
    And no, you don't need to be running local DNS. But you do need access to DNS servers somewhere upstream of your clients, and your local boxes certainly can operate with either Bonjour (mDNS) or static IP assignments. Or with your own local DNS.
    What the next step depends on your intent and your budget. If you want to learn and manage DNS, then Cricket Liu's DNS and BIND book is a good resource for learning. (And the CutEdge Systems DNS Enabler package -- though with a few weirdnesses aside -- has a more capable interface.) If you have somewhat more budget and less desire to learn DNS, then getting somebody in to verify and reconfigure (and secure) DNS is a valid approach.

  • Service for vf02 locks the invoice number

    Hi,
    I have created one service for VF02 transaction as given in this path:
    default_host
           --->sap
                   --->bc
                          --->gui
                                  --->sap
                                          --->its
                                                 --->VF02
    I am calling this service from my Web Dynpro application.
    But the problem is => if I cloase the window by using close button, it locks the invoice number used permanently.
    How to resolve this?
    Thanks
    -Haresh

    Hi Suman,
    I am calling Service for VF02 from Web Dynpro application as an external window, so definitely it'll lock the invoice.
    So when I close that window by close button of browser, it should unlock the invoice number, but it is not releasing the lock.
    I think It is not required to code any unlocking logic in my web dynpro application as I am opening this service in external window.
    Any further help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Not clear about dns service for new Mac 10.4 server

    Due to low budget, I am given the task to convert a powermac g4 into a Mac 10.4 server. I have already installed it as a stand alone master but will promote it to directory master as soon as I configure proper dns setup.
    Now my westell router shows that the dns is 192.168.1.1 and the domain name as myhomwestell.com, does that mean my zone name has to be westell.com? Can having both dns service conflict with each other or is it fine?

  • How can I set a default save file for scans using the Solution Center?

    Using Windows 7 - 64 bit.   HP Photosmart Premuim C-309a All-In-One Printer.
    Because of a Windows crash, I had to install a new drive and reload Windows. I also reloaded other software like the HP Solution Center & Drivers. My problem is that I can't find how to set a default folder for my scans.  This is NOT mentioned in the user manual but it was originally accomplished by HP Tech Support when the printer was new.  Can anyone relate how to set default folders for my scans?
    Thanks.

    Here is a document on how to scan through Windows 7.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03476857
    Click either solution center or the icon of the printer on your desktop. Here select "Scanner Actions" (or the analogous selection). When the window pops up from the HP software it should provide you with options for file type (.tiff, .pdf, .jpg) as well as resolution and media size. Here on this page there is also an option for you to go to the advanced options. Using this you can alter the default safe folder.
    Let me know if that helps you out!

  • How many computers can we run our license for LabVIEW at the same time?

    We have LabVIEW 8.2 and we need it to operate on several machines at the same time. How can we do this? Can we check to see if our current license allow us to do this?

    Are you talking about developing code on multiple machines or just running programs? If you build your applications into an executable you can deploy those to any machine without buying anything else. If you need the full development environment on each machine but will not be doing development on them look for something called a Debug License.

  • I have a clock VI that I attached to several other VIs to keep track of running times but for some reason the clock stops at 24 minutes. Why?

    I got this VI form a member of the forum. He used it for the same reason so I figured that it worked. I can't seem to fine the reason that it stops at 24 minutes. Could it been something on my computer stopping it. But I have run this VI on several PCs and got the same results.
    Attachments:
    CLOCK.vi ‏40 KB

    I am not sure what the VI is supposed to be doing. It seems like it will keep track of time it takes to execute x (=3600xNumeric+1) numbers of iterations. How long it takes depends on the system. If the VI runs slower on a particular system, it will take longer to execute the same number of loop iterations than on another station. For example, on my machine it took 6 min to execute the VI with Numeric=1. Another factor is the wait time set in the loop to =100. I don't see anywhere this taken into the consideration.
    I am sending you another VI that counts the time from the start of execution until the Stop button is pressed. Of course, you can replace the Stop button with a condition that suites your needs.
    Hope this helps.

  • Error "Run Preflight Script for Omnisphere" on the installation

    Good afternoon, I just bought a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion and am installing all VST plugins used before in PC, all I could until I was presented Spectrasonics Omnisphere (the VST is the most use and need) should be added I could also install Spectrasonics Trilian is also and installed in the same folder.
    The problem I have is that when I try to install the DVD 1 of Omnisphere throws me the following error:
    What I did was go to the Spectrasonics support and get this: http://www.spectrasonics.net/support/knowledgebase_view_topic.php?id=265&categor yID=7 says that this error occurs when the folder in which you installed characters strangers or double spaces, also recommended that you try to install in another folder. I did all that and still keeps coming out that mistake.
    I hope you can help me with that because unfortunately ruined my whole day :/
    Hugs and thanks.

    Got a fix for this (was vexing me considerably and ALMOST gave up..). I discovered that the Iso's (Sample DVDs 1-5) were not actually fully 'mounting'. via the normal kick start mpkg's...
    FIX:
    Instead, after unzipping the ISOS, drag and drop all 5 into the left hand column of DISK UTILITY and open them from there (click and initialise install process as before with .mpkg), hey presto.. no frikkin' Pre flight error and the install is finally working!
    I cannot believe Spectrasonics Support were not aware of this error!
    I'm on MBP/ OSX Yosemite BTW.

  • How to add the "Services for Object" icon/functionality.

    Dear all.
    I have seen in some SAP standard transactions a button named "Services for Object" in the title bar of the screen. An example is in transaction MM03. The button is to the left of the title "Display Material xxxx".
    Does anyone know how I could incorporate such functionality in my own program.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    You need to use GOS for this.
    1. Create a Generic object thru transaction SW01.
    then call the following method in the PBO
    module call_gos_attachment output.
      if sy-tcode eq c_yatt2 .
          i_borident-objtype = 'YASTATTA'.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 DNS service issue with BitLocker

    I recently installed BitLocker on a Windows Server 2008 Platform. I did not encrypt the boot partition because the server hardware BIOS did not have the necessary requirements to encrypt the system drive.
    The Server roles are ADSM, DC and File Server. For DC operation I am also running the DNS service.
    When I installed the DNS role I was prompted to install the Log files on a different volume than the OS. I did this, but unfortunately, it was the same volume that was encrypted.
    Since I could not encrypt the system disk, the encrypted volume must be unlocked via password in order to mount. Here in lise my problem.
    When I do a full reboot of the server, I get to the point in the boot process where my mouse is visible and operational (this would be just before the Windows OS logo displays, I believe), then the server reboots. On the next boot up I am given the diagonstics
    and recovery dialog because the OS failed to boot.
    I believe the failure is the DNS service trying to launch, but because the log files are on the encrypted drive and it has not been unlocked, the system sees this as a security problem and reboots
    Does this make sense? If it does, is there a way to boot 2008 R2 with the DNS service disabled, say with the original install disk in recovery mode?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated as this system cannot be booted in its current state.
    Peter C. Hesse Network/Systems Administrator

    Hi,
    I believe you mean the Active Directory Logs not the DNS logs, because these are necessary to startup a domain controller, because the AD database depends on these logs.
    So if you have AD logs on a different partition and that is encrypted with Bitlocker you could probably automatically unlock it.
    So you did not encrypt OS partition because the server does not have a TPM fully compliant chip ?
    manage-bde /?
    manage-bde -autounlock -enable Driveletter:
    But you have to be able to boot server normal mode I am not sure if the command can be used in DSRM mode.

  • Single server as Soft AP, DC, DNS, DHCP for a small office

    The server is running 2012 R2 Foundation with a wired network for internet (Comcast). It has a WiFi adapter so it can host a wireless network (as a Soft AP). The WiFi host has a static IP 1.1.1.1.
    On the server I have setup AD, DNS, and DHCP services (all bind to that static IP).
    All clients need to connect server and internet via WiFi, and join the domain for work.
    But it looks like the DHCP/DNS services don't like the virtual adapter - although all clients can connect, they cannot get their IP.
    Without AD/DNS/DHCP I can share internet connection with ICS perfectly, so I think the hosted WiFi network is setup correctly.
    I tried to remove the DHCP service, and use ICS to assign IP - it works, but clients cannot see the DNS server and thus cannot join AD.
    What am I missing? Thanks for your help!

    It is never a good idea to run a DC with two NICS. It causes all sorts of problems. (The only exception was SBS server which was designed as a one-box solution). Also, a domain will not run behind ICS. If you are running a domain, the domain clients
    must use the local DNS (on the DC) for DNS, not the DNS relay system of ICS. RRAS/NAT will work because you can configure it so that it does not run its own DHCP function. ICS is not configurable.
      Even if you overcome that problem, you still have the multihomed DC problem. It really isn't worth the effort to save a few bucks.

  • I have DHCPand DNS services in a router and I want to install domain controller

    Hello
    I have a sonic wall router managing the DHCP and DNS services for a my network and wanna keep it doing this.
    I have a computer running windows server 2012 standard and installed active directory along with DNS. I also went to the DNS manager of these server and forwarded the DNS addresses of my router.  For some reason I'm not able to join a client computer
    into the DC.
    I got this error:
    An Active directory domain controller (AD DC) for the domain "mydomain.ca"  could not be contacted.
    Is it possible to configure active directory using the DNS and DHCP services of my router? or Am I doing something wrong?
    Can somebody helping me with this matter?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    if the DNS server on your router is able to provide all required zones, SRV records and options that the DCs require there is no problem using 3rd party DNS servers.
    But I would recommend that you u se the DC as DNS server also and just run the installation during the promotion process.
    All clients MUST use the domain internal DNS servers on the NIC NONE else otherwise you will run into trouble. Internet access will be done via the FORWARDERS on the DNS server properties in the DNS management console on the Windows Server.

  • DNS settings for virtual host 10.6 server

    We have just gone through a rebranding exercise, i.e. the company name has changed from 'mycompany' to our 'ourcompany'.
    For various reasons we have decided to not rename our complete setup, but rather add a virtual host for our mail server including a second primary DNS zone for the new domain 'ourcompany'.
    We are hosting our website externally, however since we added the second primary DNS zone incl. an A record (www) pointing to our external website hosts IP for 'ourcompany', workstations on our LAN can no longer access the website.
    Running DIG for 'www.ourcompany.com.au' results in the correct A record IP address being shown, but it is still not showing in any browser – we also made sure we emptied our caches.
    Although we thought this should work relatively easily, we are now totally confused as to the additional primary zones general settings... currently we allow zone transfer and provide an entry in the nameserver section.
    Any ideas as to what might be going on here would be greatly appreciated.

    Mr. Hoffman,
    Than you very much for your reply - unfortunately, despite studying and testing your advice (incl. wesbite) we seem to not get much further.
    Please find our comments inserted below...
    MrHoffman wrote:
    FWIW, both mycompany.com.au and ourcompany.com.au are real and registered domains; I'll presume they're not the domains you're migrating from or to.  Accordingly, I'll use example.org for your old stuff, and example.com for your new stuff; the example domains are RFC-reserved for this usage.
    Correct we are not using my bad example domains.
    Each host should have one A record (and one AAAA record, if you have IPv6 active), and one of the more common errors in these migrations is setting up an A record for each new domain that might arrive; each host has one A (and possibly one AAAA) record, and that's the canonical name for that host.  Externally, that'll probably be the latest name in any sequence (such as www.example.com), and all previous names (including www.example.org) will have CNAME entries.
    To clarify do you mean the following: internally we should not have more than one A record for each host... i.e. one for example.org and one for example.com and presumably any other subdomains should be CNAME records?
    2. externally we should change the A record for www.example.org to a CNAME record and create a new A record for www.example.com;
    Internally (and here's why having a different domain inside is handy) use one of the old names; use example.org, for instance.  This means you can use the public DNS services for the external web sites and resources; your internal DNS servers receive the requests for example.com hosts and go "duh, lemme ask somebody else for that", and that somebody else is the (public) DNS server your external DNS services for example.com hosts.
    Exactly what we had initially done - basically we (naively) thought we could get away with only relying on external DNS translations... however that resulted in mail clients on our LAN loosing their connection every 5-10 minutes, thus we decided to setup another primary DNS zone which fixed that problem but created the other.
    Please also note we have created a subdomain admin.example.com which properly resolves to the CMS backend - btw. from within this backend you can then preview the any page on the regular website with their non www. URLs.
    Since the current setup resolves to the correct IP address I wonder if it could be a problem with the .htaccess rewrite rules the web developer has setup to remove the www. ... or is this too far fetched?
    The usual trigger for not reaching the external A (or AAAA) records is either a stale cache on the particular client (for translations inside the Time To Live (TTL) values for the old DNS translations, or pending a local cache flush on each client), or (and this is more common) confusion over authoritative DNS servers; you have your internal DNS configured as authoritative for the new www.example.com domain, and also authoritative for the old www.example.org domain, and your external DNS is also authoritative for (probably) both domains.  Internal requests get as far as the internal server, and get an authoritative translation (possibly being "no such host"), and don't go any further.
    Safari & Firefox present with 'Server not found' errors.
    So we are still stuck thus any further advice would be much appreciated.

  • How to get "Oracle Services for MTS" working?

    I've implemented the microsoft code example (see at the bottom) for the use of distributed transactions (with system.transactions and MTS support). The code works fine as long as I use only MS sqlserver.
    Well, I tried one connection to an oracle database and one connection to the sqlserver - and here the trouble starts ;-)
    Oracle doesn't care about the transaction. After the command is executed the changes are made to the oracle database at once (no commit has occured at that point) even if the second command isn't successfull.
    I suppose at the moment that the problem must be something around the interaction between MTS and oracle database, more precisly the oracle Services for MTS.
    I've installed the odp.net client (ODAC1020221.exe).
    The installer tells me that oracle data access components 10.2.0.2.21 and within the Oracle Services for MTS are installed.
    But I cannot find a service with that name in the service list, OracleMTSRecoveryService is listed, but I'm not sure if that's the right one.
    So here are my questions:
    What's the name for 'Oracle Services for MTS' in the services list?
    Do I have to install more than the odp.net client to get the MTS support running?
    Is there a mistake in the code I'm running?
    any help is welcome ...
    thanx in advance!!!
    And here's the code I'm working with:
    [Transaction(TransactionOption.RequiresNew)]
    public class Worker : ServicedComponent
    [AutoComplete]
    public void Test()
    using (TransactionScope scope = new TransactionScope(TransactionScopeOption.RequiresNew, new TimeSpan(0, 5, 0)))
    DbProviderFactory theFactory = DbProviderFactories.GetFactory("Oracle.DataAccess.Client");
    using (DbConnection connection1 = theFactory.CreateConnection())
    try
    connection1.ConnectionString = ".........";
    connection1.Open();
    DbCommand command1 = theFactory.CreateCommand();
    command1.Connection = connection1;
    command1.CommandText = "Insert into user (name, surname,benoid) values ('hans','wurst','32315134512345')";
    object returnValue = command1.ExecuteNonQuery();
    using (SqlConnection connection2 = new SqlConnection("Data Source=localhost;Database=UserManagement;Trusted_Connection=true;"))
    try
    connection2.Open();
    //this command fails
    SqlCommand command2 = new SqlCommand("Insert into uuuu (name, vorname) values ('hans','wurst')", connection2);
    object retValue = command2.ExecuteNonQuery();
    catch (Exception ex)
    return;
    catch (Exception ex)
    return;
    scope.Complete();
    }

    hey what's up you figured out your problem with M$DTC/Oracle 11i with ODP.NET trying to do a TransactionScope?
