S430 - touchpad not working at all out of the box
Hi all
I know there's a few people who have problems with the touchpad on their thinkpads, I've got another, different problem!
I got mine out of the box yesterday and neither the touchpad nor the red joystick controller in the keyboard work. The buttons on the touchpad also don't work.
Luckily I had a USB mouse at home and I've been able to the laptop up and running, but no luck trying to get the touchpad working. I've gone through the user guide, the help guide, the lenovo website etc, but not finding anything.
When I go into the "control panel", then "hardware and sound" and select "device manager", the only "mice and other pointing devices" that I have is my HID-compliant mouse which seems to be the USB mouse. The touchpad doesn't feature at all.
If I go into "control panel" and select "mouse" I don't actually have a tab for "UltraNav". Since all the help out there tells me to go to that tab, I don't really know what to do!
If I go through the Lenovo Solution Center, it tells me that the "ThinkPad UltraNav Pointing Device" is disabled and to fix it I need to go to the Device Manager.
But, as already said, in the device manager there's nothing I can do!
Any help would be much appreciated.

This notebook seems to belong to the PSAF5E series.
I wonder where you have found the drivers for this series ?:|
However, I have checked the Toshiba European page and didnt find the Vista touchpad driver especially for this series.
BUT the page provides some touchpad drivers (two drivers) for the Equium A200 PSAEE.
I would recommend installing the Alps Electric Touch Pad driver v7.0.301.4 and the Synaptics Touch Pad driver v. 9.1.14.0.
By the way; its always recommended to reinstall the OS with the Toshiba recovery CD. If you dont have such CD you could order it from the ASP which is responsible for you country.

Webcam that works on skype out-of-the-box ???
hello,
I know that this is an issue that has been discussed many times, but i would be appreciate if someone can propose me a webcam which work with skype out-of-the box.
At the moment i have a Logitech Communicate STX but i 've the green horizontal lines although i've tried the LD_PRELOAD trick.
Which webcams are you using with skype ?I don't remember exactly how it was, and since I run Skype from a 32bit directory I'm not 100% sure if this is applicable. For some reason I couldn't get a one-line command to work, but if creating the above mentioned executable file, which I gave the name skype_video, it works perfectly well when I run schroot -p skype_video. Otherwise it always complained about not finding that v4l1compat.so file.
Test to create a file in for example /usr/bin/ like mine and see if it works. In my case the camera works excellent, and gives very good video quality for the price. -
Java does not work at all upon using the update manager to update to firefox 3.6.10 for Ubuntu 9.0.4
OS: Ubuntu 9.0.4

upon updating to firefox 3.6.10, java does not work at all.
websites that use java do not work at all anymore, when they worked just fine before the updating thru update manager. e.g. hulu website cannot play any of the shows.
i can give the folder of bookmarked pages i tried.
how to do that on here, i've yet to see if possible.
i can even give saved text from the terminal concerning certain attempts.
when i updated thru update manager, it gave some weird java plugin that wasn't there before "The IcedTea Web Browser Plugin IcedTea6 Java Web Browser Plugin (execution of applets on webpages)".
i uninstalled this as instructed by an answer found in one of the pages i saved, cuz it was conflicting w/another java program the updater said i needed. right now, i don't remember for sure what it was. it perhaps was realplayer flash or Java itself. w/all the hours/days of searching i put in, it's difficult if not downright impossible for me to remember all the specifics of what i tried.
i've searched throughout many webpages (including many searches on mozilla, ubuntu, java, etc) for instruction in fixing the problem.
oh, and incidentally, on the Java site, when i try the verify test of Java, firefox pops up with that yellow bar right below the slew of tabbed website windows, giving the statement "additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page. (w/link to) install missing plugins ." which is what i do, go thru the requesting plugin installation. it comes up with, guess what, the IcedTea Java Plugin. i click on the 'next' in the "Plugin Finder Service" box that pops up, & all it gives me is "No plugins were installed. IcedTea ...Plugin failed. and the link 'find out more about plugins or manually find missing plugins'". the link takes me to some of the very things/plugins that wouldn't install in the first place. the Java test failure is a LOL funny, as what plugin it is saying is required (IcedTea) is a recommended alternate program to display the very test in the first place.
i followed the given instructions on those many searched pages, in every case (barring what i may have just plain missed), but to no avail.
i've even gone to the point of trying to reinstall the previous 3.5.13 firefox version, from mozilla site. even that wouldn't install.
i've tried installing Java for my sys direct from it's site. nada.
now it's time for me to post the problem & perhaps someone will come up with some kind of "dummy" way to fix it.
until then many sites a regularly use are totally useless to me on this fast puter.
the only way i can get to use such sites, are two choices: 1. use a dinosaur laptop, which is slower than molasses & cannot handle to any streaming stuff, or 2. use an available internet access puter at the library. but useage for ea person per day is limited to only one hour a day. and one can end up waiting for an hour or more ( in the busiest periods) to even get to use one.
so, is there anyone at all, who knows any for-sure working fix for this problem?

Not able to start out of the box approval workflow programmatically
We have a requirement to start an out of the box workflow from a .NET web service.
We are using the StartWorfklow method:

we are getting the below error message at the above line of code: Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation.. Data: System.Collections.ListDictionaryInternal
Then, we tried:

HP Pavilion DV 6000 Mouse/Touchpad Not Working at All PLS HELP!
I have an HP Pavilion DV 6000. When it is powered on and I log in a screen pops up showing the mousepad with a red line going through it. The mouse does not move at all. Therefore I can not recover or do anything with the computer. Has anyone heard of this????

First was it a corded usb mouse or a cordless?
If it was a corded it should've auto installed drivers from Windows itself to get it up and runnig.
If it was a cordless it should have again auto installed drivers for the dongle when inserted, But the mouse may have needed paired to the dongle, Which is done by usually clicking first on the discover/matching button on the bottom of the mouse itself, then pressing on the button on the dongle itself and that should match them together.
If it was a newer cordless mouse though most are already matched at the factory so there's no need for pairing much anymore.
As for installing the drivers it's fairly simple.
If you have a drivers and application DVD either that you bought from HP, or made yourself if you did a default factory image onto a DVD when you first got your computer, put that disk in your drive and navigate it till you find the driver, It should be marked Input Device Driver.
Or you can go to HP's Support Site and download the latest driver for your TouchPad and reinstall it from there.
You'll most likely have to reboot after doing this?

I have just installed Arch on my Fujitsu Siemens UH552 laptop. Everything works except for the touchpad which seems to get loaded by Xorg, but when in X it doesn't work. I have tried both using /dev/input/event* and /dev/input/mouse0 as device paths, neither works.
xf86-input-evdev and xf86-input-synaptics are installed.
I have tried running both with the default 10-evdev.conf, with 10-synaptics.conf, with both, and without both.

Anyway, I tried looking into the
psmouse serio1: bad data from KBC - timeout
messages, and tried running psmouse proto (defined in /etc/modprobe.conf/psmouse.conf) as both raw and imps as per https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s … ion/206950 Unfortunately, that didn't solve anything. Using the raw setting meant that the touchpad wasn't loaded at all (as in not appearing in the Xorg.log at all).
The laptop is quite new, but at the same time what i figured from the touchpad vendor & product ID, the touchpad itself isn't. So it should technically work. Before installing arch i booted into windows to see if everything worked, and found no issues with the touchpad. So I have ruled out any hardware errors. Maybe its just the Fn-key that doesn't work yet in Linux? But that doesn't explain the "psmouse serio1: bad data from KBC - timeout" Any pointers to where I should look/ what commands I should run to delve deeper into this issue?

Powerbook G4 17" Keyboard or touchpad not working at all.
So I have this computer and it used to work perfectly until i decided to add some ram. When I did, something must have shifted and caused a short circuit at the L90 inductor, right beside the keyboard/touchpad connector. The power button still works, and the computer is FULLY usable through VNC. And with my limited knowledge in Macs I cant figure out the precise type of inductor I blew. It's a 3 Cent piece that i can see is all charred and burnt but i don't know what to replace it with.
Any help would be appreciated.

Because when I pinch or mess around with the bottom of my phone just under my keys(where there seems to be a piece that could disasswmble from the phone), the light comes on and stays on when I hold it tight, and it flickers and flashes when I fiddle with it.
I wish you had the foresight to tell me upfront that you knew what the problem was -- there would be a little less guessing on my part and I would be able to get straight to the point.

I don't know if you can fix it or not... someone who has done it before might could, for sure.
For a loose battery connection? Just place a business card a folder sheet of typing paper on top of the battery, replace the battery door and see how that works.

HP Touchpad not working at all
I have a HP Touchpad which isn't responding at all. The screen is blank yet the button is lit up, I know it is charged from my last use. I have tried resetting it with the solutions given such as pressing and holding the home button with the power button, the power button with the volume buttons. I have held them for at least a minute and nothing happened. I have tried connecting it to a laptop, and the computer does not recognise it because its not responding.
Please help.

If you have not yet been through it, I suggest you review this thread which is "stickied" near the top of this board. It includes most of the suggestions out there to try to get a non-responsive TouchPad back into operation.
One of my TouchPads went wonky on me the other day, after it sat for several days on a TouchStone charging cradle. I plugged it in to a wall charger, let it sit again overnight, and the next day had to restart it several times (home and power buttons) before it finally booted up and behaved normally again.
Make sure you use the original charger it came with, a phone charger does not provide enough power. The micro-usb charging port could also be loose, or the charging cable could be bad.

I really have no idea what I am doing wrong.
My computer specs are very up to par with handling photo merging. I have done so in the past but now I cannot at all.
Literally when i try to open the photo merge dialogue box nothing happens and photoshop sits idle.
ANY automate commands do the same.
Any help would be appreciated.Please post your Photoshop System information here use Photoshop menu Help>System Info... use its copy button and post info here. Third party plug-ins like Nik tools are known to interfere with Photoshop scripting. Many Automate thing are Photoshop scripts like Fit Image, Photomerge, Lens correction etc. Make sure you see Adobe ScriptingSupport plug-in is installed on your system information in the required plug-ins setion.

NON OF THE F KEYS WORK AS ORIGNAL OUT OF THE BOX DEFAULTS
I have a Mac Pro 3,1 using OSX6.8. I have recently replaced the original hard drive for one with larger capacity. In the process, I have made this new HD the startup disk too. All the programs I am using are up to date and are working well. I am having a problem with my Key board function keys though. I regularly use them for sound, the optical disk drive, exposé, spaces, etc. It is really weird opening dashboard with the volume key, hit the f12 key again and my optical drive opens; all with the f12 key. Another weird issue is when I select spaces with my control key and the designated number the handy spaces window on screen stays in view. The only way I can get rid of that is by deactivating spaces entirely. I have gone through the system preferences and tried to restore my defaults to no avail. Your suggestions are much appreciated.
In System Preferences > Keyboard uncheck Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys.

MSI GS70 20D Touchpad not working after login when I upgraded to 8.1
Short situation: I upgraded my laptop to windows 8.1, and the touchpad stopped working on the start/desktop screens. I could move it before I logged in, and after it would work for a few seconds, but then it would just stop. An external mouse works just fine, but I still don't want my touchpad not working.
I looked on the MSI USA technical support page, and it said to delete the old drivers for the touchpad and download new ones. I deleted the drives, but every time I try to download the new ones, I get a window that says my touchpad isn't plugged in, and that the drive isn't compatible with my touchpad, which doesn't make sense to me because I looked up my product specifically and tried all three touchpad drivers. None of them worked.
Now I can't use the touchpad at all because I deleted the drivers, so it would seem that the computer doesn't know it has a touchpad because it won't register the touchpad in my devices tab.
Does anyone know what I can do to solve this? Or to at least get the touchpad to register again? I just got this computer for Christmas, I've treated it very well so it hasn't banged up against anything or been dropped or mistreated, so I cannot understand why this is happening. It worked before the 8.1 update, so I'm pretty sure the issue has something to do with that.UPDATE: So I managed to fix the touch pad by deleting the driver and rebooting, which is weird because I removed the driver completely and never reinstalled it, so the computer shouldn't really know it has a touch pad. But every time I reboot the computer after fixing it, the touch pad goes back to it's old problem and I need to redelete and reboot all over again.
Also, My computer has begun to randomly freeze and not respond to anything, with one such event leading to a blue screen with a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR message. The computer has frozen a total of 6 times, at different moments; when I'm typing on microsoft word, at the login screen, even right when it starts up and the msi loading screen is up. 5 of these times have required a forced shut down, the first time the computer shut off on it's own because it ran out of battery power.
Finally, my computer has begun to periodically for long stretches of time stopped detecting wireless networks and is asking to be plugged into an ethernet cable to connect to the internet. This has never happened to me before, and I know I haven't turned off my network sharing center.
I'm not sure why this is all suddenly happening. It's not like I'm banging my laptop against walls. I'm very careful when I move and use my GS70, so these problems are greatly concerning to me because I just got this computer at Christmas. -
HP Pavillion Does NOT work Straight Out of the Box after Purchase
My daughter bought a new HP Pavillion from Office Depot before starting computer classes at the university. The first one would not work at all and after the tech folks tried all that they could and it would not work, the Office Depot staff exchanged it for another one. Straight out of the box, it does not work. It crashes constantly. My daughter has spent HOURS that she needs for assignments on the phone with HP tech support. Here is where she stands with the situation now: She bought the extended warranty, but apparently that does not cover computers that don't work. The HP warranty....does not apparently assure that you get a working computer either, even when it's just days old and won't function. So....after spending from about 1p to nearly 6p today on the phone with HP tech support, she is not assured that it will work.
They are calling back on Friday to see.
So if it is NOT working, are we just out of luck with a piece of junk that does not function except as a word processor? That won't connect to the internet without crashing? We have been given no options or assurances.

If you have a warranty, does that mean that HP stands behind their product and refund the consumer's money when it doesn't? The new HP Envy printer did not work, due to a defective ink cartridge enclosed with it. Does any HP product work at all?@Mariellynne
