Safari canceled shutdown

Hi everyone.
I have this 'Safari canceled shutdown' issue with Safari, every time I open any page.
I Force Quit to close it and shutdown, but i'm looking for a definitive fix of the issue.
Anyone have some suggestion?
Safari 7.1

    Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those off and relaunch Safari again.
Turn those on one by one and test.

  • HT5364 Safari "cancels" shutdown

Safari(or something else?) has deselected the availability of the "quit safari" menu item from my safari menu, and I can't "shut down" with Safari running. Help? Thanks!

Command - option - escape keys will open the Force Quit dialog window.
Select the app and force quit it.

  • Safari prevents shutdown

When I click "shutdown" on my MacBook PRO, I get a popup saying "Safari Cancelled Shutdown" then if I try to close Safari the "Quit Safari" is gray and none functional. Even if I let it set for several hours and try again it has not resolved. If I hold down the power button and force shutdown, then when I reboot it works fine for awhile then repeats the whole cycle. All software is updated.  Any ideas?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only Guest login created by Find My Mac.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The Guest login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • HT2448 the button restart sleep cancel shutdown keeps appearing every 30 seconds, if I don't cancel, it shuts down, any suggestions out there?

How do I make the retast sleep cancel shutdown option stop appearing every 30 seconds.  If I am working on safari it doesn't happen but does in mail, when idle etc/ thanks in advacne for any suggetions, EireCowboy

A number of sleep-related issues can appear after incremental Mac OSX updates, including the inability to properly go to sleep, problems waking from sleep, and having your display go to sleep without your Mac going to sleep. The most common culprit is Bluetooth. Try these tips to fix your sleep problems.
    WAKE UP
In System Preferences>Bluetooth, uncheck Allow Bluetooth Devices To Wake This Computer. If you are using a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, you'll have to wake your Mac by pressing the power button.
    FILE CORRUPTION
Your Bluetooth preference file may be corrupt-you'll need to delete it. Turn Bluetooth off, then go to the /Users/user name/Library/Preferences folder. Look for a file called com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and trash it.The OS will create a new preference file when you enable Bluetooth again.
    ENERGY SAVER
If you have issues with a Mac or display that goes to sleep at inappropriate times, you may have a problem with Energy Saver. Delete the following .plist files and restart:
    -/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
    -/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist--
(username is your name or System Administrators name)
    -/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
A restart is very important after deleting these plists. After a reboot your Mac will then generate new ones.
Some, in these forums, have had luck fixing sleep issues downloading the Combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try.
Yours would be the 10.4.7 Combo update. Others reading, download the combo update that applies to you!
    Cheers!

  • Safari will lock up on my MacBook Pro. Force quit doesn't help. When I try to restart the computer, I get an error saying Safari cancelled the restart. I have to press the power button to shut down the computer.

While I'm using safari,  it will freeze up. When I force quit safari and reopen it, I find that I'm back to where I was when I did the force quit and safari remains locked up. When I try to restart the computer, I get a pop up that says that safari cancelled my restart. I then press the power button to shut down the computer. When I reboot the computer and open safari, I see all the tabs and windows that were opened when this issue began, only this time safari isn't frozen. This problem started yesterday.
Has anyone experienced the same problem? Is there a fix for this problem?

Try Resetting Safari: Open Safari. Cick on the name Safari in the menu bar. In the drop down menu click Reset Safari.

  • TS2537 Mail application cancels shutdown and refuses to quit

I am running OS 10.9 and I still have problems with the mail application. It often does not want to quit and cancels shutdown. Are there any suggestions out there?

    Back up all data.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder may open, or you may get an error message that the item can't be found. Either result is normal. If the folder does open and has contents, move the contents to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail and test. If there's no change, put the contents of the folder back and quit Mail again.
    2. Repeat with this line:
    /Library/Mail/Bundles
This time you may be prompted for your login password when you remove the items. Make sure they're removed from the folder and not just copied to the Desktop. If necessary, copy them first and then move the originals to the Trash.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

You don't have to be "in" Safari for it to cancel logout.
You have several different Applications open, and any one of them may cancel logout if conditions are just right.
Quit the Applications you are no longer using and your Mac will run better and faster. And it will logout instead of cancelling.

  • HpAlertStatus cancelled shutdown

    Hi
I've just upgraded to Lion 10.7.2
When I shutdown the machine, a dialogue briefly appears saying: "hpAlertStatus cancelled shutdown.." It doesn't (cancel shutdown) but instead the dialogue ghosts with the 'ok' button inaccessible while the machine proceeds to shutdown anyway. It boots ok too.
Yes, I've got HP (printer) stuff installed so of course I've fired up that software and asked it to check for updates which hasn't produced anything.
    Questions:
    1) Just double checking it is the print software from HP isn't it, I need to update?
    2) Anyone know exactly which/what bit needs to be updated?
    Thank you

    Hi IvMedic
The dialogue at shutdown occurs regardless, even when the laptop has not had the printer attached to it at all during the day (because I've not printed anything). It occured straight after I upgraded and again, I'd not had the printer plugged into the laptop so it couldn't know the 'status' of the device at that point.
(no I don't have a widget... I'm not big on widgets, they're so often a source of trouble... and no I don't shutdown mid-print either).
I'm just wading my way through a thread elsewhere which while it doesn't mention hpStatusAlert and is talking about a slow shutdown is identifying the All-in-one software...
I know I've downloaded two hp sets of software at various times: all-in-one and some (a month or two ago, pre Lion upgrade) for a big format designjet so I've maybe just got a load of detective work to do to tidy this up. Was hoping someone could save me (and others) some time if they've 'been there' already. Not to worry.
    Thank you.

  • Ichat cancelled shutdown

I can't shut down my Imac. I get a message saying that Ichat has cancelled shutdown. What can I do?

    Hi,
Do you know what iChat is doing ?
Is it doing a File Transfer ?
If it is not doing anything important the Hold down AppleALTESC to bring up the Force Quit Dialogue box and Force Quit it.
Also if you click and hold the iChat icon in the DOCK it may say in grey letters it is Not Responding and offer the choice to Force Quit from there (although this does not always work)
A File Share download or upload is the only thing I can think would cause this.
Also Repair Permissions with Disk Utility in Applications/Utilities as soon as you can (First Aid tab)

  • Mail cancels shutdown

This is not a new problem, but I was hoping that an upgrade to Mountain Lion would fix the issue. So far no fix has apparently been found for Mail cancelling shutdown. At one point it wasn't just Mail causing the problem, it was any number of programs running at shutdown, however to begin with and then again more recently it has been just Mail causing the problem.

It sounds like a feature, not a problem to me.  Your shutdown is not interrupting mail's activity.  For most folks, if mail is in the middle of sending and/or receiving something, it sounds beneficial to let mail finish what it's doing before shutting down.
If you want to shut down and know you have a busy mail app, why not simply close the mail app before shutting down?

  • Why does mail cancel shutdown?

when I try to shut down a message appears Mail cancelled shutdown.
Also when the iMac goes into sleep mode by itself (on timer) it cannot be awakenned by touching a key as it used to.

Upgrade to 10.9.2 regardless, unless you depend on Airplay:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1726
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6831
This will not fix your issue with shut down.  Mail if busy according to the Window on Activity, will likely stop shutdown until it is finished.  You should stop mail from all activity, and then quit Mail, and then shutdown.
As for the sleep issue, that may be do to connected peripherals not compatible with Sleep.

  • The application activateSettings cancelled shutdown?

    Hi,
Sometimes when I want to shutdown my MacBook Pro with OSX Lion, i get this message:
In English, something like "The application activateSettings cancelled shutdown, please stop activateSettings and try to shut down using the Apple menu"
The strange thing is, I allready did use the Apple Menu to shut down.
Has anyone here got any idea what this is and how to fix it?
    Thank you.

    Hello erikginn
I would open Activity Monitor to find that process and quit directly from there. The following article will give you the steps to perform this task. Once the process has been stopped, then try the shutdown process again.

  • Executor cancels shutdown

An application called EXECUTOR appears in the doc. It has a generic icon. It is not among my startup items. I see an "Application not responding" message when I hold the mouse down on the dock icon. Force Quit does not work; the application won't quit and cancels shutdown. Can anybody help me solve this problem?

I am having the same issue with any application that I open. The only thing I can do is hard reboot the computer. This is very frustrating. I do not know what to do next to get this fixed.
