Safe mode exit signal 8
Imac won't start up, I boot up in safe mode and run fsck -fy and get a "exit signal 8" I am about to lose my mind! I have so much on this computer that I haven't backed up!!! HELP!

HELP!! Need a fix to OS Snow Lepo 10.6.8 for safe mode exiting
HELP! Experienced users: My system is stuck in safe boot mode for System: 10.6.8?
You may have to try & use the command line access to see about repairing the
startup volume, or see if you can exit the SafeBoot mode by using that method.
Or use the install-restore DVD for your computer, where available, to try & fix it.
Perhaps you could use information here as a workaround to that problem:
•Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck - Apple Support
{In systems with a recovery partition (lion & later) you could perhaps start in that
and initiate a repair using OS X Disk Utility; but Snow Leopard hasn't Recovery.}
You may also attempt a startup from Snow Leopard Install-restore DVD, so as
to use Disk Utility to repair disk and also repair disk permissions, then restart
normally from the Macintosh hard disk drive.
Hopefully this can help make it work again.

Firefox won't open in normal or safe mode.
I get a crash report each time when I try to open it normally, nothing happens when I type in the extension for safe mode. Because I can't open safe mode, the Mozilla troubleshooting guideliens cannot help me. I'm working from Windows vista, have all current updates to Windows, and have scanned my computer.
To start in Firefox Safe Mode, hold down the Shift key while clicking on the Firefox desktop icon. To exit Firefox Safe Mode, exit from Firefox (Firefox button > Exit or File > Exit), wait a few seconds (10-30), click the desktop icon to restart Firefox.
NOTE: Establish a habit of exiting/closing Firefox with Firefox button > Exit or File > Exit to allow an orderly shutdown of Firefox and closing of all of the files that Firefox has open.

Firefox 4 Hangs on Exit even in safe mode Win 7 x64
Whenever I close firefox 4 using the upper right "close" button in Windows 7 x64, it hangs in memory. The windows themselves seem to close properly, but I cannot start firefox without using the "end process tree" function in task manager. If, however, I use the firefox menu-->exit, this behavior doesn't happen. Firefox will close normally. This even happens in safe mode. I have tried re-installing firefox to no avail. I have even disabled AntiVir free with no success. I have not yet tried to disable windows defender, but that shouldn't be problematic. Any answers out there? Anyone with similar problems? I run a clean system, and I'm very tech savvy, but this one just boggles me.
Solved? Ok, so I think I fixed this myself. Originally, re-installing firefox after an uninstall (w/ option to delete profile) did not work. Here is what did work for me:

-Complete uninstall of firefox w/ option to delete profile<br />
-Manually delete entire profile under c:/users/NAME/app data/roaming/mozilla (yes, information will still be there even after a complete uninstall of firefox)<br />
-Update any other mozilla products (for me, Thunderbird... it turns out the older version was somehow sharing plugins and profile directories)<br />
-Download firefox 4.0<br />
-Install w/ defaults<br />
-disable all plugins manually (go to add-ons and select "disable" for each... why are there plugins you ask? well, some things like Adobe reader, etc... will automatically load in when firefox is installed if that particular program is already on your computer)<br />
-enable only basic plugins (for me, flash, java, and silverlight)<br />
-change settings as preferred (my changes were all in the privacy settings)<br />
-close and reopen firefox (I would recommend doing this at every minute step so you can troubleshoot what happened)<br />
-add plugins/extensions one at a time, reset firefox (option given once a plugin is installed), configure the plugin, close firefox, open firefox, repeat and wash for each plugin...<br />
-if any plugin/extension causes a hang, disable it. "End tree" in task manager for the hung firefox. Start firefox. Disable plugin. Do not "Restart" firefox at this point, as it will hang. Instead, use firefox-->close. Then, go in and try enabling the plugin, configure it, and the restart. If all is good at this point, leave the plugin. If not, wash, repeat, leave it disabled and move on without it at this point.<br />
-run your firefox sync<br />
-enjoy a working copy of firefox.<br />
The essential point is to CLEAN EVERY POSSIBLE THING OUT and install the bare minimum, then add parts incrementally and determine that every increment works. Simple, straightforward, but not always obvious.

I`m running XP SP3, hardware fairly new, bitdefender and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware says I do not have viruses, and I dont remember installing new software before it started crashing. I uninstalled firefox with deleting preferences, etc. downloaded new firefox installation with IE, installed, but ir does crash on every or nearly every exit, including in safe mode. Can anybody help? I am new here, probably overlooked sth. in existing articles, in this case, I am sorry, and could anybody direct me to it. Thanks
I think it would be a good idea if you performed a clean install. Any corrupt files which are on the system and are causing this problem will be replaced. It's a very simple process and you won't lose any bookmarks. Here's how.
Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/?ref=logo Download Firefox 4.0.1] and download to the desktop.
Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (''don't checkmark the box'').
Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.
Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation. -
Can't exit safe mode - Satellite A300

My laptop goes into safe mode when I start it up and cannot get it to start back in normal mode. I have tried "Repair your computer" - doing a startup repair and a system restore, with no success.
I ran cmd/sfc/scannow and the following message comes up: "Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.logwindir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:winddows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log"
Will I need to do a complete PC restore or HDD recovery?
I have made a recovery disk. Would programs that I have installed (e.g Microsoft Office) be saved on the recovery disk? If not how would I save this program (I have mislaid the installation disk)?.
Many thanks in advance!!The same opinion here. Preinstalled OS is corrupted and best option for you is to install OS again using Toshiba recovery image.
If you use recovery disc for OS installation the whole HDD will be formatted and before you do this backup all your important data.
You have probably HDD option too (F8 > Repair my computer). In this case the partition C will be formatted only and all data saved on second partition will be safe.
All additional applications youve installed in the past will be deleted so after OS installation you must install all this again.

HT4972 Can't update iPad 2 from iOS 4 to iOS 6. Also, can't exit "safe mode"
I have an iPad 2 and I'm still running iOS 4. My iPad is currently in "safe mode" and I have no idea how to fix this. Therefore, when I connect to iTunes, it's not letting me update my iOS version when I'm prompted to update. I try to wipe my iPad and do a reset but the status bar just stays empty for hours and in the end, no results.
Also, there are some apps that my son installed(I was unaware) that are not removable, could this have anything to do with my problems.

Mac stuck in safe mode start up loop
Hi everyone,
it seems I have run into a problem and can't find answers online.
First off I have a MacBook intel core duo on the latest snow leopard and mac software is up to date.
It all started when I had to restore my iPhone and it had some problems and got stuck in dfu mode, so when I decided to reboot it I unpluged it and went to reboot and problems started. Finder kept crashing. When I started up in safe mode I decided to save some important files and when I was done the finder problems persisted even while in safe mode. When I rebooted it would start up in safe mode and the loading bar on the bottom would get about a fifth of the way and stop, it would try again and get the as far as before and then shut down.
I tried taking out and putting back in the HD and ram as well as verbose mode. It says

(8, 12827)
**the volume mac HD could not be verified completely.
/dev/rdisk0s2 (hfs) exited with signal 8
When I decided all was hopeless I tried reinstalling the os but it got stuck on examining additional disks.
If you need any info let me know. HUGE thanks ahead of time as I am writing this from my iPhone 2g and have a useless MacBook and dfu'd iPhone 4.Restart from your installer disc. Do not run the installer. Instead, from the Utilities menu select Disk Utility & run its Repair Disk step. If it can repair the HD, try reinstalling the OS again. If it cannot, you can try a more powerful (& expensive) disk repair utility like Disk Warrior, which may or may not be able to repair the damage. Otherwise, you will need to reformat the HD (losing all its data) to recover.
You should always have a backup of your data. If you do not, it may be worth gambling on the price of Disk Warrior, but remember that there are no guarantees it can repair the damage. -

The SAP Note 1037478 dosn't help, because we have JSPM SP16.
Have restart the Engine manually, but nothing happend.

My MB is always starting up in safe mode... why? What to do to start-up normally? Please help.
Hi,
I am frequently having troubles with my MB. Different types of troubles. Couldn't solve a single one yet.
I have performed reboot MB in safe mode-- hold down the left shift key after the start up tone till the spinning gear appeared.
Few hours back i performed that, and since then it just starting up in safe mode without holding the any shift key. I have password protected log-in and each time the dialog box shown the safe mode, not the normal boot as it used to be. I restarted so many times, but same result.
I started-up by holding down the Option key, dialog box showing the same thing "safe mode" and same result.
I started-up in single user mode, and then typed reboot, then pressed enter/return button, but dialog box shown the same and it started up in safe mode after entering the password.
While in the safe mode, i have selected the Mac OS X 10.4.11 from the preference pane, then restarted, but all produced the same result, same dialog box showing the safe mode.
I couldn't take the screen shot of that dialog box that appears before starting up.
I am currently using the internet while in safe mode, and using ethernet adapter- a AirStream 1100 F25 external modem attached to the USB port. I don't know if that is good for my MB to use internet on the safe mode.
I used disk utility and verified the disk during the safe mode, i don't know if that is right or wrong to perform that utility in safe mode, but it all appeared as normal. You can see that from the following image.
Few days back, i performed the disk utility to verify disk while on the normal boot. But the result shown the red marks, please see the following image for details.

Please help me out. Let me know how to start-up normally. By the way, my superdrive is not detecting DVDs including the OS dvds, but it read and write the CDs. So, It is not possible to reinstall OS early, at least not before the having the back up of the data. Please help me with contingency plan/s or as you think fit.

depending upon how full “almost full” actually is, that could be the problem.
You can try this, if you have Mac OS X 10.7 or newer installed, to see if it’s not related to your disk being almost full: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Once you hear the startup chime, try booting into Safe mode; does it let you do so now? -
LG Revolution frozen, cannot even get to work in Safe Mode
I've had my LG Revolution phone for nearly ten months now. Everything worked great for the first few months, however I started having problems with the phone freezing randomly in about June. I'd pull out the battery, turn the phone back on and everything would be fine. However, in the past two months or so, my phone will completely lock up. I'll pull the battery and put it back in, but when I re-boot the phone, only the status bar will come up. The rest of the screen remains blank. My wallpapers don't come up, nothing. I cannot unlock the phone by sliding up with my thumb or anything. Again, the status bar works - I just can't get anything else to work on the phone. The only time I can even get the screen to light up is immediately after I plug it in. The status bar will show I have e-mail or text messages or voice mails, but I'm completely unable to unlock the screen to view any of this stuff. Even the time on the upper right hand stays current - but again, the main screen will lock in at whatever time I re-booted the phone. It says "No Service" even when I'm in an area where I have perfect signal and I'm on the 4G Network. I've tried removing the memory card and SIM card and re-booting without either one of them in. I get the same problem. When my alarm goes off, I can still hit the snooze button or turn it off - but the phone goes immediately back to a black screen. I can even receive phone calls, but again the screen reverts back to it's previous state once I end the call. The main screen even looks weird, as the "Slide up to unlock" words at the bottom of the screen are below the face plate, making them only half visible. This has happened four times in the last two months. While in this state, the phone eats up the battery. While I can usually get the battery to last all day, if my phone is locked up like this, I can't get it to stay charged for more than 5 - 6 hours. While doing some research, I found out how to re-start the phone in Safe Mode. Even in Safe Mode, I get the exact same problem. The status bar shows everything is perfectly fine - but the main part of the screen is screwy, as I've mentioned above. The previous times, after about 8 - 10 hours, my phone will suddenly light up and my background will come on and I will get the sound that I've received new messages, etc. The phone will then work perfectly fine. I'm hesitant to take it into a store or call customer service - all they're going to do is do the same stuff I've already tried in order to get the phone to work normally. I'd like to try a factory reset to see if it will work properly then, but according to the help screen, if it is an app that is causing the problem, the phone should work fine in Safe Mode - and again, as I've said, my phone remains frozen/locked even in Safe Mode. IMac mid 2010 21.5' can only run in safe mode
My iMac (mid 2010) cannot reboot recently. It can only be boot in safe mode by pressing 'shift' when turning on. If boot normally, it will stuck on the grey apple logo screen. I tried re-install os, clean os installation, restore os using Time Machine etc, but none of these works.
If I turn off the computer for a whole night, it will then turn on the next morning. But, after a few minutes of watching video in YouTube, the screen gets frozen and I have to restart it manually, then only safe boot can work ... Now, even if I don't touch it for 24 hours, it can't start normally but safe boot.
I run the 'apple hardware test' by pressing D when reboot, the AHT did not detect any hardware problem. But I guess there is hardware problem with the logic board or graphic card.
The operation system is 10.9.4. I restored it to 10.9.2 using Time Machine, but the same symptom.1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.

10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Computer is almost exactly 4 years old at this point.
Ok, Just want some clarity here.
I can start up my computer and it runs fine in safe mode. No problems other than the restrictions safe mode imposes. All my external devices run.
When I restart normally I get a varying amount of time before a freeze occurs. Sometimes I'll start all the way up and be fine for a minute or 2. Sometimes it freezes at the login screen. Sometimes it freezes at that first loading bar, or even a couple of times at the initial blue screen.
When I say freeze everything stops. No dock, no key commands. I can however still move the cursor around the screen. Can't do anything with it, but it moves with my Wireless Logitech mouse, and Wacom Tablet.
When it stops in the initial start up phase the freeze is usually accompanied by some sort of weird screen artifacts. They look like 4x4 pixel dots of odd colors. 1 to 6 of them. I don't remember getting these if I've gotten all the way logged in.
I've had some problems in the recent past with my SMU. And had to cut down on the number of devices I have plugged in at any one time. Mostly a firewire issue. I thought I had achieved a balance. All of them seemed to work fine until these freezes happened in last couple of days. And again they work right now in safe mode.
I've repaired permissions (using Disk Utility)
I've run all the maintenance scripts (using Janitor)
I cleared the caches (using Cache Out X)
And I've run Preferential Treatment
I've been hearing video card a lot but these symptoms seem unique and didn't want to jump the gun.
