SAP BI back-end Vs SAP BO back-end

Hi Friends,
Purchasing SAP software packages - bought SAP NW 2007s package (included SAP BI) and SAP BO XI suite (included Data Integrator (DI) as part of the BO XI package).
We have below scenarios and discussions around these scenarios - please advice the best practice/method:
1. ECC - > SAP BI(back-end) for storing ECC and other legacy data->BO reporting tools like Crystal Reports, WebI, Xcelsius etc.,
2. ECC -> BO(back-end) for storing ECC and other legacy data using DI for setting up the ETL process -> BO reporting tools like Crystal Reports, WebI, Xcelsius etc.,
3. ECC ->use BI and BO as back-end system -> BO reporting tools like Crystal Reports, WebI, Xcelsius etc.,
Does anyone have reasoning to use both back-ends? The BI and BO packages include the back-end and I think it is up to the customer to choose either one as data warehouse system. Thinking that SAP may also have different package combinations to have either BI or BO back-end to use as data warehouse system which may reduce the license, implementation and maintenance cost.
When it comes to scenario 1 and 2 u2013 How BO ETL handles the massive data extractions, error handling, and parallel extraction and performance issues compared to SAP BI?
Please provide your thoughts in approaching the specific scenarios?  It would be great if you could also provide some web links precisely relevant to this discussion.
Thanks,
Sudha

HI,
just to clarify: in the BusinesObjects Enterprise system you not storing data.
1. ECC - > SAP BI(back-end) for storing ECC and other legacy data->BO reporting tools like Crystal Reports, WebI, Xcelsius etc.,
>> for sure possible
2. ECC -> BO(back-end) for storing ECC and other legacy data using DI for setting up the ETL process -> BO reporting tools like Crystal Reports, WebI, Xcelsius etc.,
>> you would then use something that is called a Rapid Mart for example
3. ECC ->use BI and BO as back-end system -> BO reporting tools like Crystal Reports, WebI, Xcelsius etc.
>> yes.
Both backends have a different purpose. BusinessObjects is reporting and BW is a datawarehouse.

  • Upgrade to SAP BPC 7.0 with cluster system (Front-End & Back-End)

    Hello,
I have to do an upgrade document about an outlooksoft 5.0 SP2 to SAP BPC 7.0 SP4 in a cluster system.
    It has 2 front-ends (IIS cluster windows) & 2 back-ends (SQL Cluster).
We are going to do first the migration in 1 node, and then in another. The first upgrade in the first node I understand. I uninstall outlookdoft 5.0, install SAP BPC 7.0 SP4 and then restore the backup of the Appset, and do the posts upgrade action of the Dimension TIME.
But in the second, what do we do??? I uninstall outlookdoft 5.0, install SAP BPC 7.0 SP4 and then what??? Do I have to restore the backup of the Appset again???
    I need help.
    Best regards.
    Pablo Mortera.

    Hello,
On the second cluster node, you have only to install the software, nothing related to the appset. If you alreay run the migration stepts for the appset, all the information are into daatbase and file server.
However, the normal behaviour is to make the installation on the both nodes, make the basic tests to validate the installation and then proceed with the appset migration.

  • Front end and Back end experience in SAP BW

    Hi Friends...
Can ne1 plz explain wht things in SAP BW come under Front end and Back end experience......Thanks in advance

Generally, back-end would consist of the taks associated with configuration of data targets (ODS, Cubes), working with extractors, mapping data to the data targets, writing transfer/start rtn/update rules, and creating Infopkgs/ Process Chains.
Front-end deals with the use of the BW - writing queries, workbooks, web (although I think some of the infrastructure aspects of web reporting. e.g. javascript/templates might really could be considered backend).  Think of Front-end as all of the client/customer/user facing components.

  • Not able to get a link to the fron-end portal(ess) with back-end sap R\3 AB

    Hi,
In the back-end i.e sap abap-hr , the required data (leave types) are available. But on front-end Portal(ESS) ,the drop-down menu in personal LOA forms shows only two leave types(personal & self-funded leave).i got struck in how to make few in remaining also viewable in the drop-down list. Can anyone help me on this?

    Bottom line,
to configure the Leaves on your portal you have to do.
    1. Configure the Leave Types and all the customizing on T554S.
opc. If you want to have quota deduction, and everything else you should check V_T559L, T556C, T556A as well.
    2. Configure the Leaves on the Portal.  This is done on the IMG path colleague replied:
    >Personnel Management
    >Employee Self-Service
    >Service-Specific Settings
    >Working Time
    >Leave Request
    >Processing Processes
       a. Create the Rule Groups - this step you just create them.
       b. Adjust feature WEBMO - The feature WEBMO is used to select the rule group. Most of the times based on MOLGA and Ctrl. Center.
       c. Define Processing Processes for Each Rule Group - define the processes such as how to record partial day leaves, details on to check PTREQ_HEADER tables for unposted leaves, and how to determine workflow's next agent (more info press F1 on each of these fields)
       d. Specify Processing Processes for Types of Leave - Associate the Leaves from T554S that you want to show on the portal. This includes Absences and ATtendances. Here you define data such as if you are allowed to create leaves on the past, present and future; field customizing, and other details.
Since Time Management is an old part of SAP the F1 documentation is very complete so I really advise you to check.
    Also, check http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/ERPHCM/LeaveRequestCustom+Messages
for how to have custom warning messages to show on your leaves.
    I hope I have clarified.
    Kind Regards,
    Bentow.

  • SAP E-commerce for ERP with SAP Retail back-end

    Hi,
does anyone implemeted an E-commerce solution with a SAP Retail backend system?
Our dubt is if durig order entry E-commerce application consider the  product variant grid (like in VA01) or not.
We found that this function is supported with an AFS back-end, but we would like to know if it is available also with a retail system.
Thank you very much for your help.

    Hi,
while we have quite a few implementatinos with E-Commerce and SAP Retail backend, the specific grid functionality you have seen in AFS is not supported with Retail backend. Hence, most customers enhance the standard product offering at that point, catering for e.g. drop down list boxes with style/color/size selection. In case you're only selling "normal" retail products (individual SKUs), the standard product works fine.
    Thanks

  • A way to know the parameters passed to SAP back-end from t-code

    Hello,
When my users report me performance issues from a specific t-code, I always need to ask them a variant or criterias they used to launch the query.
SAP logs the t-code used in STAD or STATTRACE but is there a way to go further and find what were the field passed to the back-end?
    Thanks
    François

    Hi
U can only ask it to your users or, if it's a background process, check the variant in the job (trx SE37)

  • Contract number not transferred to back-end PO?  Is this an SAP bug?

System: SRM 4.0 - Classic Scenario
    Problem:
Iu2019m creating "limit" carts with reference to ECC back-end contracts.  The functionality seems to be available in SRM and I expected it to work in the same way as the "describe requirement" shopping carts (i.e. the contract number added to the shopping cart is transferred to the back-end and the ECC PO is subsequently created with reference to the contract)
However, for u201CLimitu201D carts, I've added the contract to the shopping cart, but it does not get passed to the follow-on ECC back-end PO.
These are steps I am following (end-to-end):
    1.     Create contract in ECC (ME31K)
    2.     In SRM, add Vendor and Contract Number/Item to preferred vendor list and Release
    3.     Create u201CLimitu201D shopping cart with relevant material group and vendor
    4.     Search and select contract
    5.     Order and Approve shopping cart as required
    6.     Identify ECC back-end PO number
    7.     Display ECC PO using ME23n, select item and check reference to contract.  **Contract number is blank!**
If I check table EKPO the Agreement Number field for the PO is blank.  I.e. it has not been transferred from SRM to ECC when the PO is created.
As I mentioned, the contract is transfered for "describe requirement" carts, but not "limit" carts.
I have tested this in another system and I have the same problem.  I believe this is a SAP bug.  We have raised an OSS note, but awaiting a reply.
Has anyone else experience this issue and can provide any guidance?
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
We have a similar issue. We've implemented SRM 7 in classic scenario with ECC 6.
A limit shopping cart is created in SRM and assigned contract limits. The shopping is approved and creates a purchase order in the backend.
    1) The contract number is not available in the limits tab on the purchase order. The expectation was that the contract number from the shopping cart shows up here. BAPI_PO_CREATE1 does show that the information is being passed from SRM.
    2) The F4 search for contract in SRM does not retrieve contracts from the backend. The search seems to only look for local contracts.
I would appreciate your insight on this issue and if you could share any information that SAP provided.
    Thanks,
    Hemanth

  • ABAP WD service influenced by SAP GUI back-end

I created a stand-alone ABAP WebDynpro, created an iview for this in ESS portal folder, configure this in 'Define Resources' and 'Define Services' within SAP ESS configuration. We use single sign on for ESS (i.e. not asking for id/pwd going into ESS if you're loggin on the network).
This ABAP WD becomes an option within ESS, and doesn't ask for id/pwd when executed within ESS. However, if the user id happens to have a password that is expired (i.e. password changed date pass the 90 days limit set in system aparameter 'login/password_expiration_time '), when executing this ABAP WD (within ESS), a logon window will appear with message 'The password is expired and must be changed' , and force you to change password.
It seems that ABAP WD is dictated by SAP GUI environment. As most of the ESS employees do not directly logon to SAP GUI (they don't even need to know their SAP pwd in order to access ESS), this becomes an issue for us. How can we avoid this situation ? Do we have to implement single sign-on to the SAP ABAP stack ?
    Thanks for your help.

  • SAP MII 15.0:HANA as a back-end ! Distributed Architecture

    Dear MII Consultants & Architects,
I have a query here regarding SAP MII 15.0 when it is deployed as de-centralized.
Lets say there are 3 Plants. Each plant needs a local MII system.
How a local MII system will interact with HANA if HANA is a central entity?
Will all the local MII installations which have their respective SQL/Oracle do a SLT replication with HANA?
    Regards,
    Muddassar

There's not just a single way to interact between MII & HANA; there are many options that are available so that we can support the underlying business scenario in the best way.  For options and architectures that support them have a look here:
SAP MII, HANA/ESP and Lumira (Technical)
I also have a technical architectures deck that I can share with you if you like just email me directly for it.
Please let me know what you think of my post about MII & HANA,

  • We are using SAP SRM to punch out external catalogs. Firefox version 3.5 and below works fine and the items from the catalogs are brought back to SRM .But when we use version 3.6.12 the items are not getting transferred back to SRM from the Catalogs.

SRM is a procurement system from SAP which we use to purchase goods and service. We have external catalogs like officemax, cdw etc which we punchout the items and bring it to SRM for ordering.
When we use firefox version 3.5 and below the items which we add from the Catalogs are correctly brought back to SRM for us to order. But when we use versions 3.6.12 the items are not brought back to SRM.
Internet Explorer 7 and 8 works fine. Is there anyway you can help us.

    Hi,
Firstly I would suggest you to upgrade your database from Oracle Release 11.2.0.1.0 to Oracle Release 11.2.0.2 . This is the recommended Oracle 11g database version  for SAP solutions. Many of your problem will get resolved with it.
    Question 1:
So my first question would be is there any other suggestions besides adjusting the mentioned parameter above in order to ensure that no work processors going into hang state due to RFCs' occupying it as this issue always happens at the end of the month only when there are massive users accessing it.
For immediate resolution the approach you have followed is correct viz limiting number of dialog processes for RFC. Secondly you need to analyze why RFC processing takes so much time. You need check which programs are getting executed by those RFC.
Generate EarlyWatch report for more detailed view
    Question 2:
My second question is what went wrong with the libttsh11.so file. How could it be 0 size in PRD when no signs of changes had happen to the PRD system. Is this a proven Oracle Bug or something else since I have never encountered anything like this before.
The libttsh11.so library cannot be found in the related directory.
    Cause
The file system is mounted using CIO option, but per Note 257338.1 Direct I/O (DIO) and Concurrent I/O (CIO) on AIX 5L, an ORACLE_HOME on a filesystem mounted with "cio" option is not supported.
Such a configuration will cause, installation, relinking and other unexpected problems.
    Solution
Disable the CIO option on the filesystem.

  • Fall back systemwhen multiple SAP systems trying to acheive SSO with BOEXI

    Friends,
I need a small clarification on ' SSO between BOE XI 3.1 and SAP BI 7' Scenario,
Say when multiple users log on through their  SAP EP Portals or Netwever Portals, they use their tokens generated by their respective EP portals which are passed through the 'Web application server' hosting BOE environment.
    1) When  its a Single EP portal , we can have have a fall back system. when we register  its logical name in the CMC of BOE Environment , a typical SNC.But what's the fall back system for multiple SAP systems?
    2) Also Whether there are any pit falls via token method  when more than one SAP system communicating to BOE?
    3) Do we have any documentation for this?
    Thanks ,
    Sivakanth.

    Hi Sivakanth,
the normal scenario for SSO is the following:
When you said ''back end system ', i did not get it.
    Enterprise Portal -
    (iView)-------> BOE -
    > SAP BI <- This is your backend system
Well Could I define more than one logical name there in SNC tab of CMC.?
I assume you have the following situation:
    (EP1, EP2, EP3) -
    > BOE -
    > (SAP BI 1, SAP BI 2, SAP BI n)
You can define more than one entitlement systems in the BOE CMC and also configure for each one of them for SNC. Please note that we are talking about server trust and NOT client trust here. It is all about letting your sap system and the boe system trust each other. If you have your portal with client SNC configured (ie. the user logs using a certificate and an SAP logon ticket is created) it is NOT necessary to configure SNC in the CMC (Please refer to the section "Configuring SAP Server-Side Trust" in the installation guide for the integration kit for SAP) side.
Back to the SSO scenario now: When a user connects from an enterprise portal on the BOE system the logon ticket, generated from the portal, is forwarded to the back-end system, which is defined in the portal iView the user is currently navigating through. If it is a Crystal Enterprise iView then you just have to select the appropriate system alias of your back-end system in the System drop down menu when creating the iView. For URL iViews you must utilize the relevant openDocument parameters. If you do not define anything at all when creating the iView then BOE tries to authenticate the logon ticket against the SAP BI system you selected to be the default one in the "Authentication->SAP->Options" tab of the CMC.
If what you want is just to distribute the load between your SAP back-end systems then you should consider utilizing an SAP cluster for your pursposes. As explained before BOE will not distribute the requests evenly on the back-end systems. It will try to contact either the system defined in the request (iView) or the default system. To be honest I am not sure what happens if the explicitely defined system is not available but I think that an error message is what you should expect then. I do not think that in this case the BOE system tries to use the system defined as default.
Another part is what kind of security is defined in BEX querys..as i read from SAP IK guide, we can import all the roles which are defined at ABAB level.
Will there be any security threats to SAP data via this method.
It is true that you can import all roles in your BOE system. But keep the following four things in mind:
    1) You can restrict on the BOE side the users which are authorized to logon in the CMC and import the roles (normally only the BOE administrator is authorized to do this)
    2) Importing a role means that an SAP user can try to logon the BOE. Still the logon process can only be succesfull only if the SAP user has special authorization on the SAP side (Please check the Appendix "Authorizations" in the installation guide of the integration Kit for SAP.
    3) You can restrict the access to data by assigning authorizations only for specific infoareas/infoproviders. In order to partially restrict data access in a given infoprovider (e.g infocube or multiprovider) you can utilize authorization variables in your BW query.
    4) You can further restrict access on specific reports either on the BOE side or on the portal side (by rstricting access to the defined iViews).
For sure you must invest some time to define and implement your security concept.
More over could you please answer other 2 questions in my original question.
    2) Also Whether there are any pit falls via token method when more than one SAP system communicating to BOE?
    3) Do we have any documentation for this?
    2) As long as your portals, the back-end systems and your BOE system are configured correctly for SSO this should not be a problem. Well just a tip based on my experience: be sure to use full qualified domain names for your systems in the iView definitions. And do not forget SSO works only if all systems are in the same domain.
    3) As said in my previous posting the netweaver documentation regadring SSO setup maybe interesting for you. As far as I know the multiple systems scenario is not contained explicitely in any official BOBJ documentation. I assume that you already went through the installation guide for the integration kit for SAP.
Please tell me if you have a completely different scenario in mind
