SAP F&R:: Trend + Seasonality

Hi Guys,
I have been trying to generate forecast for a set of consumption data where the data has a trend and a seasonality component. However, when I generate the forecast, the system at best ONLY takes into account the trend in the forecast. The seasonal patterns are completely IGNORED in the generated forecast values. Is there a way (other than using DIFs) of making the system consider and replicate the seasonal patterns in the forecast generated? Or am I inputing wrong kind of data?
Someone please throw some light on the issue.

Dear Nicolas, I did go through the documentation. Infact, I had done that before posting my query on the thread. However, I am still not able to resolve the issue.
Was wondering if I could get your personal contact deatils, so that I could send you some screen dumps.
Once again stating the problem:
I have data which contains TREND + SEASONALITY. When I execute a forecast, I want the system to replicate the trend and the seasonality in the forecasted values. However, RIGHT NOW, I am unable to find such patterns in the forecast.
Queries are as below:
1. Does F&R have the capability at all to replicate TREND + SEASONALITY. Or because it is meant for short term planning, it automatically corrects the forecast for the TRENDS & SEASONALITY.
2. If it has the capability, please tell me the EXACT SETTINGS, and not just the documentation.
Thanks.

  • How to Forecast and run MRP for consumed materials

    Hi Experts,
I need help urgently on below business requirement.
Objective: Forecast consumable materials (like Gas , Chemical) to produce Finish product
    Scenario:
    1.  We have Plant WF01  - to produce finish products, Sales related activities, SOP for sales forecast, and production planning
      Production BOM Like below
Finish part (material used to make production, Sales, Shipment)
RAW  (Component used to make Finish Product)
    2. We have other plats with in same company for  GS01 - for GAS related materials, CH01 - For Chemical Related material
          - Material under GS01, CH01 does not have BOM
          - Gas and chemical material used during production process to make finish product
    Question:
              - How Can I forecast(to procure from external), how much GAS/Chemical required to meet future demand from SOP
              - How can I link SOP to forecast GAS and Chemicals because we don't want to base on historic usage
              - Please share best practices if any

    Hi All ,
Thank you for help. Understand we can use CBP for non BOM components planning.
But SAP has standard forecasting models(based on historic/trend/Seasonal etc.).
Can we define our own forecasting model to generate fore cast values.
    Ex:
    Based on history
Com1 - requires 100PC in Mar and 150 in Apr
But what we require is , We need to base on usage rate(to make finish product) and SOP forecast  to determine raw material forecast.
         i.e
SOP: FinishGoods 1000pc in Mar and 2000PC in Apr
based on SOP, I need raw material comp1  500PC in Mar and 1000PC in Apr
formula: Lets say Usage rate for Raw Comp1 is 0.5PC to produce 1PC of finish goods
                   Forecast: 0.5PC  * 1000PC = 500PC
                                   0.5PC  * 2000PC = 1000PC
Usage rate * Demand = Raw material forecast value
usage rate and demand are dynamic and can change.
Is there any way in SAP to determine forecast of components based on formula.
    Thank you.

  • Automatic forecast model determination

Hi everyone, I would appreciate a lot if you can help with the following problem: in order to apply the automatic determination of the forecast model in the materials master, what other requirements are neccesary, besides that the forecast model 'J' is placed in the forecast view?, since I've been carrying out some tests of this type of automatic forecast, and apparently it only results to detect trend and constants models, but not seasonal, although, for this last type of model, also I have dealed with fields in the forecast view of material master, such as Historial Periods, Periods by Seadon, Forecast Periods, and Model Selection. When I have an historical one of consumptions with seasonal flow, if I do it with automatic forecast model, it does not detect no seasonal flow, reason why it considers a constant model. However, if I place manually that the model is seasonal, the forecast works in a correct form.
There is something that I'm avoiding in the configuration or in the updating of the materials master?
From already thank you very much.

    Hi,
    Automatic model selection procedure 1 is used in forecast strategies 50, 51, 52, 53, 54 and 55.
Automatic Model selection procedure  2  is used  in forecast strategy 56.
Procedure 1 executes Seasonal and Trend tests and  if neitehr of these are postive then constant model is checked. For  Procedure 1 , is to recommended to be used without outlier control.
Procedure 2 executes using Constant, trend, seasonal and seasonal trend model. For procedure 2, we  must remember that when you use the outlier correction, the results are not comparable with the results of the individual processes, since another procedure can be selected for the outlier correction than for the final forecast.
Linear regression and seasonal linear regression are added to automatic model selection 2 . In addition , a trend test, a seasonal test and a test of white nosie are  introduced in model selection 2.
*Further  the way series of tests are carried out is different for the two procedures and this is explained in SAP Help .

  • MRP types and procedures

    Hi people!
I am new to this forum.
We are implementing SAP in our company now and I am responsible mainly for MRP.
I need to determine main features of SAP MRP types.
Unfortunately I found my SAP manuals and SAP help too vague.
I want to create a kind of table which would unify all existing information.
    Like for example:
Planning type can be.... (CBP, independent requirement etc) -
In this planning type there can be the following MRP procedure (reorder planning with or without external requirements etc) ...
    - In these MRP procedures how can be defined future requirements? (forecasts, trends, seasonal etc.) - How is Safety stock defined - Waht is the Lot size?
    etc etc
Guys, if you know where I can find such a table in web please let me know so that I don't waste time.

Goto the site..u will find all the help

  • When do you prefer MLR?

In which scenario MLR forcast profile is used? what is the difference in between univariant & MLR?

    Hi Karthik,
    Multiple Linear Regression (Causal Analysis)
The general idea of MLR is to find a correlation between the dependent key figure (the one you want to forecast, usually sales history) and other key figures using historical data.
    Univariate Forecast Models
    Constant Model
The most common forecast model is 1st order exponential smoothing. With 1st order exponential smoothing recent data has a bigger influence than data farther in the past. (Weighted Average)
Trend, Seasonal and Trend & Seasonal Models
For data history which show either a trend or a seasonal pattern the most common forecast model is 2nd order exponential smoothing. (Holt - Linear Regression, Winters -Seasonal Linear Regresion, Holt & Winters, Croston)
Please go through with follwing link for more detail.

  • S A P Definition

Plz. Kindly give me the definition of SAp

    History
SAP was founded in the year 1972 as Systemanalyse und Programmentwicklung ("System Analysis and Program Development")[3] by five former IBM engineers in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg (Dietmar Hopp, Hans-Werner Hector, Hasso Plattner, Klaus E. Tschira, and Claus Wellenreuther).[4] At the time they left IBM, the ex-employees were quite senior engineers in IBM Germany rather than founding engineers in the sense of Hewlett-Packard's founders.
As part of the Xerox exit strategy from the computer industry, Xerox retained IBM to migrate their business systems to IBM technology. As part of IBM's compensation for the migration, IBM acquired the SDS/SAPE software, reportedly for a contract credit of $80,000. The SAPE software was given by IBM to the founding ex-IBM employees in exchange for founding stock provided to IBM, reportedly 8%. ICI was SAP's first ever customer in 1972.
The acronym was later changed to stand for Systeme, Anwendungen und Produkte in der Datenverarbeitung ("Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing").
In 1976, "SAP GmbH" was founded and the following year, it moved its headquarters to Walldorf. SAP AG became the company's official name after the 2005 annual general meeting (AG is short for Aktiengesellschaft).
In August 1988, SAP GmbH transferred into SAP AG (a corporation by German law), and public trading started November 4. Shares are listed on the Frankfurt and Stuttgart stock exchanges.[4]
Four of the founding members -- Hopp, Plattner, Tschira and Hector -- form the executive board. In 1995, SAP was included in the German stock index DAX. On 22 September 2003, SAP was included in the Dow Jones STOXX 50.[5] In 1991, Prof. Dr. Henning Kagermann joined the board; Dr. Peter Zencke became a board member in 1993.[6] Claus Heinrich,[7] and Gerhard Oswald have been members of the SAP Executive Board since 1996. Two years later, in 1998, the first change at the helm took place. Dietmar Hopp and Klaus Tschira moved to the supervisory board and Dietmar Hopp was appointed Chairman of the supervisory board. Henning Kagermann was appointed as Co-Chairman and CEO of SAP next to Hasso Plattner. Werner Brandt joined SAP in 2001 as a member of the SAP Executive Board and Chief Financial Officer.[9] Léo Apotheker has been a member of the SAP Executive Board and president of Global Customer Solutions & Operations since 2002, was appointed Deputy CEO in 2007, and then became co-CEO alongside Kagermann in 2008.
Henning Kagermann became the sole CEO of SAP in 2003.[10] In February 2007 his contract was extended until 2009. After continuous disputes over the responsibility of the development organization, Shai Agassi, a member of the executive board who had been named as a potential successor to Kagermann, left the organization.[11] In April 2008, along with the announcement of Leo Apotheker as co-CEO, the SAP supervisory board also appointed to the SAP Executive Board, three new members, effective 1 July 2008: Corporate Officers Erwin Gunst, Bill McDermott and Jim Hagemann Snabe.
    Milestones technical solutions
In 1973 the SAP R/1 solution was launched.[13] Six years later, in 1979, SAP launched SAP R/2.[13] In 1981, SAP brought a completely re-designed solution to market. With the change from R/2 to R/3 in 1992, SAP followed the trend from mainframe computing to client-server architectures. The development of SAPu2019s internet strategy with mySAP.com redesigned the concept of business processes (integration via Internet).[4] SAP was awarded Industry Weeku2019s Best Managed Companies in 1999
    Business and markets
SAP is the world's second largest business software company and the third-largest independent software provider in terms of revenues.[15] It operates in three geographic regions u2013 EMEA, which represents Europe, Middle East and Africa; the Americas (SAP America, headquartered in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania), which represents both North America and Latin America; and Asia Pacific Japan (APJ), which represents Japan, Australia, India and parts of Asia. In addition, SAP operates a network of 115 subsidiaries, and has R&D facilities around the globe in Germany, North America, Canada, China, Hungary, India, Israel and Bulgaria.
SAP focuses on six industry sectors: process industries, discrete industries, consumer industries, service industries, financial services, and public services.[16] It offers more than 25 industry solution portfolios for large enterprises[17] and more than 550 micro-vertical solutions for midsize companies and small businesses.[18]
    SAP and Enterprise Service-Oriented Architecture
Service-oriented architecture moves the ERP landscape toward software-based and web services-based business activities. This move increases adaptability, flexibility, openness and efficiency. The move towards E-SOA helps companies reuse software components and not have to rely as much on in-house enterprise resource planning hardware technologies which helps make ERP adoption more attractive for small- or mid-sized companies.
According to a press fact sheet from SAP, "SAP is the only enterprise applications software vendor that is both building service-orientation directly into its solutions and providing a technology platform (SAP NetWeaver) and guidance to support companies in the development of their own service-oriented architectures spanning both SAP and non-SAP solutions."
    SAP E-SOA Authentication
SAP E-SOA, client certificate-based authentication is the only authentication method (besides username/password) and the only Single Sign-On method to be supported across all SAP technologies. Kerberos and logon tickets, for example, are not compatible with SAP service-oriented architecture. [20
    Products
SAP's products focus on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). The company's main product is SAP ERP. The current product is called the SAP Business Suite (also known as SAP ERP 6.0). It's previous product was called R/3. The "R" of SAP R/3 stood for realtime - even though it is not a realtime solution. The number 3 related to the 3-tier architecture: database, application server and client (SAPgui). R/2, which ran on a Mainframe architecture, was the predecessor of R/3. Before R/2 came System RF, later dubbed R/1.

  • Enhancement and new features available in AFS 6.0 in reference to AFS 5.0?

    Hi Experts,
Please can you explain what are the Enhancement and new features available in AFS 6.0 in reference to AFS 5.0

    Hi Mithun,
Following are the details you needed.

    Condition Table Display (Change)
As of SAP AFS 6.0, in transaction J3A9 it is possible to display condition tables for value-added service(VAS) and multi-store order (MSO) condition types beyond the existing limit of 19 condition tables. The Conditions Info display in transactions J3A4 and J3AN can be viewed in an ALV list.
AFS Sales and Distribution (SD) IDOCS
As of SAP AFS 6.0, the function modules J_4A_IDOC_INPUT_ORDERS and J_4A_IDOC_INPUT_ORDCHG are not supported. The standard function module IDOC_INPUT_ORDERS are used instead J_4A_IDOC_INPUT_ORDERS and standard function module IDOC_INPUT_ORDCHG are used instead of J_4A_IDOC_INPUT_ORDCHG. There is no change in the IDOC type /AFS/ORDERS05 which is presently used to create/change sales orders. Accordingly, you must use inbound process code ORDE for message type ORDERS and inbound process code ORDC for message type ORDCHG.
Supporting the Change of Single Characteristic (New)
As of SAP AFS 6.0, you can use transaction /AFS/MDC, to select sales documents by specifying a single characteristic name and value range in the same ways as you select sales documents by specifying grid value.

  • Forecasting Models in Demand Planning.

    Hi experts,
want to know in details and also to practice various forecasting models in Demand Planning, from beginning.
    please suggest.
    Regards
    Bhupendra

    Hi Bhupendra,
There are various forecasting models to use in business like automatic model and manual model as a broad category.
In detailed, there are models like constant model, trend model, season models, trend seasonal etc.,
Forecasting models are very simple and mostly based on STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES.  If you have sound knowledge in various statistical methodologies, it will be very easy to followup all the models.
Moreover, while selecting the best model for an organisation, one needs to study and identify the key performance indicators for improvement and accordingly the forecast model needs to be aligned.
The method to find this kind of model is the BEST FIT METHOD (it could be one or more or combo of it).
In demo systems or sandbox system, you can populate various data with various models and try to analyse the one which satisfies business requirements. You can also take the help of BUSINESS PLANNING ANALYSER to build the customised forecasting model which can be part of business side or from consulting side.

    Hi All,
I need to check feasibility of one particular scenario.
I have 100 Materials for which I need to Forecast. I need to calculate best Forecast strategy for all Material with calculation of Forecasting Error.
Correct me if I am wrong: We can get the Best Forecasting Strategy by adding all the Univariate Profile with different Forecasting Strategy in the Composite Profile Tab.
    Now my requirement:
    1. I have 100 SKUs. Each individual SKU has different historical data. Now I cant run Univariate Profile for each individual SKU separately and also run the Composite Profile to find out the best Forecast.  I need to find is there a way to run the Forecasting Strategy for all SKUs separately something like mass run together?
To be very precises i need to run Forecast Strategy for all 100 SKUs for their individuals Historical Data simultaneously.
    Thanks,
    Best Regards,
    Bhaskar

To comment on the statement: If you are looking at performance at Go-Live you might be better off with Auto 1. Auto 2 takes more time
some more ideas if you want to explore them
your final solution will depend on the weightage of the performance of the forecast run vs the accuracy of it
If you are focussing on the performance use Auto 1 during go live. It will definitely be faster.
If you are looking at accuracy go for Auto 2
You also dont have to use a one-size- fits-all  solution for the million CVCs.
Also your forecasting level will make a difference. You might notice dont have to forecast at the most detailed level or for all the million CVCs all the time. Check if all the characteristic levels are pertinent to your forecasting.
You can also forecast at a aggregate level depending on the product characteristics. epending on the business you should look whether a top-down forecasting approach can be adopted vs a bottom-up approach that you are looking at. You can use KF disaggregation to let the forecast take its proportions
You need to be able to group your products at least into 2. You might also use the other characteristics to group these
    examples of Group 1:
Critical Products were forecast accuracy matters
    Products with Trend, Seasonality
Products which will have an immediate visible effect post go-live
    High value products
Regions where not going out-of-stock might be important
use Auto 2 on Group 1
    Group 2:
    Rest of the products
    Use Auto 1

  • Seasonal + Trend forecast calculation

    all,
We are using Consumption based planning with MRP type VV and Forecast model - X and material master maintained as below.
For testing purpose, I have maintained past consumption for last 6 month as below screen shots.
When I execute forecast from Material master tab, I got basic values, MAD, safety stock & error total as below..
How System is calculating above values?. I have gone through the formula but didn't understood and also gone through below link but didn't get sna idea.

  • Implementing demand forecasting with trend, growth and seasonality

I am trying to implement demand forecasts of materials with high demand frequency (behaves like FMCG) and which displays trend, growth and seasonality distinct for each market segment. I am familiar with SPSS where I use either Winter's or Holt's models, or even ARIMA models to generate robust forecasts.
Looking at MM03 there are a few options but some parameters are always reset to system defaults and I don't have many options models. We are running ECC 6.0.
Am I doing the right thing? Is there an easier way to implementing this. I appreciate any assistance.
    Rodrigo

    Hi,
I'm afraid that the complexity of the ECC regarding material forecasting is limited, and may not include all or some of the models that you mention. SPSS is a statistical tool by design, and probably has much wider statistical functionality.
For a comprehensive and statistically functional SAP demand planning tool you need to turn to APO DP.

  • Display xMII Trends and graphs in SAP R/3

    Dear all,
We have a requirement to see the trends of various production lines from xMII in SAP R/3 itself.
Is it possible to have this graph in SAP ?
Even if we are able to see the webpage then also it is ok.
We are having RFC connection established already within xMII and SAP.
    Thanks in Advance,
