SAPINST : Error CJS-00091 with raw devices on AIX 5.2

Dear all,
I am trying to install a Web Application Server Java 6.40 SR1 on AIX/Oracle but get the following error due to the fact that I opted for a raw-device installation.
> CJS-00091 Unable to create the tablespaces.
> DIAGNOSIS: There is not enough free disk space:

You will probably tell me that an OSS note exists and that I should adapt the 'control.xml' within the installation directory but that's not the point. This problem was probably present in older releases but is now corrected with the Support Release 1 (SR1) of Netweaver '04
In fact, I don't understand why SAPINST still tries to work with the classical "SAPDATA" structure as it should now work with the "SAPRAW" directory only (See OSS Note 145654). This "SAPRAW" directory is only containing links refering to the raw devices SAPINST should use.
Here's what I've got :
> ls -la sapra*
>
> drwxr-xr-x 2 oradep dba 256 15 Feb 11:29 cntrl
> lrwxrwxrwx 1 oradep dba 18 15 Feb 11:28 depdb_1 -> /dev/rdepddb010013
> lrwxrwxrwx 1 oradep dba 18 15 Feb 11:28 depdb_2 -> /dev/rdepddb010014
> lrwxrwxrwx 1 oradep dba 18 15 Feb 11:28 depdb_3 -> /dev/rdepddb010015
> lrwxrwxrwx 1 oradep dba 18 15 Feb 11:28 roll_1 -> /dev/rdepddb010011
> lrwxrwxrwx 1 oradep dba 18 15 Feb 11:28 system_1 -> /dev/rdepddb010009
> lrwxrwxrwx 1 oradep dba 18 15 Feb 11:28 temp_1 -> /dev/rdepddb010010
> lrwxrwxrwx 1 oradep dba 18 15 Feb 11:28 undo_1 -> /dev/rdepddb010012
And here's the "SAPDATA" structure SAPINST wrongly created

Any idea, what the problem is?
I presume the installation script contains some bugs when working with raw devices but would like to know whether someone already experienced this...
Many thanks for your help,

Hello Arun,
Maybe I am wrong but I think you did not understand what was the problem...
When using 'raw devices', SAPINST shouldn't use the classical SAPDATA directory structure but should only create links into the 'SAPRAW' directory.
So, SAPDATA directories should not exist! Only links (refering to the raw devices to be used) within the SAPRAW directory should be present!
In the meantime, I got this problem solved by SAP. They temporarily modified my 'keydb.xml' file to get this fixed but they should release an appropriate correction within a few days. This way of doing (I mean modifying the 'keydb.xml') is only applicable to my system...
Cheers,
Xavier

    I checked the alert log for error here is the error in the alert log file.
    ORA-1119 signalled during: CREATE TABLESPACE FLOW_1 DATAFILE '//./FLOW_1.dbf'..
    and i found the syntax for create tablespace was wrong.
    To create a tablespace in RAC with RAW device environment under windows.
    it should have forward black slash instead of backward slash "/" without .dbf extension.
    so, I changed the syntax i was able to create tablespace through sqlplus.
    When APEX tool try to create this tablespace it throws this error..
    Old: CREATE TABLESPACE FLOW_1 DATAFILE

    Is it a bug in APEX 3.0.1.??
    Is anyone installed APEX in RAC ??

    Hi,
    One observation, Apex is switching the Session ID after one got killed ? I was working on Apex page with browse Item to test open cursor count,
    after killing the SID (227) on which the open cursor count was getting increase, it APEX automatically switches to new SID(149) for that session.
    Now the problem is even if I have two SID's and one hits the maximum open cursor count, It is not switching to other SID instead the whole application becomes unavailable.

  • Audio to midi error - check conflict with external device - apogee rosetta

    hey there
    i have a problem and any help is much appreciated..
    basically i am running a quad xeon dual 2.66 machine under 10.4.10 and using logic 7.2. 1 gig ram.
    i am using a apogee rosetta 800 with the option x firewire card for my audio interface.
    whenever i set a track up to record and 'play' logic i get a message saying,
    'unable to sync audio to midi check conflict with external device' and then it says something like sample rate 43021 recognised.. something close to 44100 but not quite..
    so i think my problem is a clocking/sync one maybe? i have tried everything i could think of, including fixes suggested on the forums here, but nothing so far seems to help e.g making sure autosync in on the transport is unchecked, checking audio MIDI setup.
    worryingly with the few problems similar to this on the forums there doesn't seem to be a way to fix it!!
    anybody who could help would be a lifesaver.. this is destroying my workflow!! emailed apogee and im waiting for a reply.
    thank you very much
    richie

    Hi,
    Ok, then there can be a few more possibilities,
    Try this: unplug your Rosetta, and any other FireWire devices you might have. Basicallly you want to start Logic with the internal audio.
    If this works ok, then it is not an issue with the Mac's hardware, and is an issue with a FW device.
    Then, quit Logic, and plug in the Rosetta by itself. Boot Logic, and select it as the audio interface. Try playing stuff back. does it work? If yes, then the issue is with another FW device. If there is a issue, then there might be a corrupt driver, a bad FW cable, etc. Keep trying one by one to go through re-installing the drivers, and also try changing the FW cable. If this still does not solve it, there might be an issue with the Mac OS 10.4.10. You might need to install Pro App support 4.0. Also, there was a fix available from Apple not so long ago specifically for FW audio devices. Please do a search in Apple's suport site for "FireWire audio device" and see if you find the patch.
    If the Rosetta works when it is the only FW device hooked up to the Mac, then you have a conflict with another device, like a FW hard drive, etc... check each one until you find the culprit.
    Cheers

  • Formating Raw devices on AIX

    Hi
    I am carrying out an installation (RAC11gR2 on AIX) on a server where RAC was installed. I uninstall all but the raw devices has still information of the past ASM files... etc. I need to format these partitions for having the initial condiction for the new fresh installation. Do you have the commands or any article or link to do that ?

Do you have the commands or any article or link to do that ?The usual way to 'format' a raw device is with the 'dd' command. Dump /dev/zero into that raw device, something like # dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/raw/raw10 bs=512 count=20 # adjusting bs and count appropriately.
    Then again, the Oracle installation manual for AIX (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e17210/toc.htm) might have some hints, especially in Chapter 3.

  • Raw device for oracle 8.1.7 on AIX 4.3.3

    Hi there,
    I am trying to use a raw device on AIX 4.3.3 for ORACLE 8.1.7.
    I have created a raw device /dev/or_system
    brw-rw---- 1 oracle dba 54, 1 Mar 04 10:44 or_system
    but it is not possible to create a datafile on it :
    SVRMGR> create database "GLM"

    ORA-01119: error in creating database file '/dev/or_system'
    ORA-27038: skgfrcre: file exists
    SVRMGR>
    The ORA-27028 in exact this situation was reported as a bug in prior ORACLE Versions 8.0.4/ 8.0.5 and had
    the bug no. 690228.
    But we use as mentioned 8.1.7.
    What do I do wrong?
    Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thank you
    Gerhard

    Each raw device you create is used as a single data file.
    Eg mklv -y 'myfile' <vgname> <number of logical partitians>
    Will have two special files associated with them /dev/rmyfile and /dev/myfile. The number of logical partitians will be the size of your datafile subtract 1 meg for overhead.
    So, if you were addding the above raw volume to a tablespace, and the lp size was 32 meg, you would
    create tabelspace tsname datafile '/dev/rmyfile' size 31 m;
    Note the use of rmyfile not myfile.

  • Raw device and Oracle

    Hi,
    did anybody successfully test Stephen Tweedy3s raw device against
    Oracle? I testet also against Sybase but could not get it to run.
    Stephen checked straces and stuff but there seems to be no error!
    Look at ftp.uk.linux.org/pub/linux/sct/fs
    This patch is against Linux 2.2.9.
    Please people, test it and tell me if it works for you

    Hi Marcis,
    I tested raw device with Oracle but in AIX with Oracle 7.3 and
    it worked perfectly. While I'm waiting for Oracle8i on Linux and
    would test it with raw device, I don't think there would be too
    much different.

  • How use raw device in linux?

    Hi all.
    scene:
    oracle 8.1.6.1
    Linux red hat 6.1
    I'm trying to create a database with raw device.
    In HPux the raw device is /dev/rdsk but I found no documentation for linux raw device.
    thanks for any help.

    Prove it: try to create file large than 2Gb on 8.1.6 under Linux (under NT it works) and try to use raw partitions. About Pmon ORA-601 simply check Metalink.
    I know Oracle, it is my work. I like Oracle database. I think, Linux is the best OS. But i want Oracle to solve current bugs more quickly, for a customers could not say "Oracle on Linux - it ***** ". Because, customers must to know about problems to avoid it. It is a more biger problem, when database is crashed.

  • Extend datafile in raw device

    Hi All,
    need some help. our database resides in raw device. currently datafiles resides in different logical volume in HP UNIX server version 11.11. our database is Oracle9i.
    there is one datafile with size 4G, not auto extensible resides in logical volume with physical size 4G. if i extend the logical volume from 4G to 6G, can i just resize the datafile to 6G?
    or do i need to create a new datafile because current file size is big?

    With raw devices alternative cost of performance is typical management difficulties like this, but after 10g ASM is a big shift - http://www.dbazine.com/olc/olc-articles/still5
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/storeman.htm#i1021337

  • What procedures exist for change raw devices to filesystem?

    What procedures exist for change raw devices to filesystem?
    I understand that only you can:
    - Backup Full (System with raw device) and Restore in System with Filesystem
    - Export/Import
    Specifically I want to know:
    A backup (created in MaxDB 7.5 with DB in Rawdevices) can be restored on another System, with DB in file system??
    Someone could give me details of the procedure?
    Someone knows another method?
    Greetings to all.

    > Specifically I want to know:

    No problem as long as
    - the target systems database version is at the same patchlevel (or higher)
    - the target database is big enough
    - the target system has the same endianess (you can e. g. not import a backup from Windows to HP-UX)
    A SAPDB/MaxDB backup has no information about the source filesystem setup, it contains only pages. There has "just" to be enough space to restore them.

  • Oracle ASM installation and raw device options

    I am looking to install Oracle ASM on Linux Red Hat AS 4 (ia64) using Oracle 10.2.0.3.
    A general question I have regarding prerequisites for ASM using raw devices. It appears there are 2 options for dealing with RAW devices.
    1. Use the ASM library driver
    or
    2. simply bind the devices to raw devices (and then install a new $OH with an ASM instance)
    Is there a recommendation from Oracle, industry best practices, expert opinions on which way to go?
    If I understand correctly it sounds like option 2 will require an ASM $OH and instance. Is that right or do both option require this?
    Can someone provide guidance as to which option I should use, an Oracle whitepaper, a recommendation, instructions or something.
    Any help or insight is provided as to which option I should use.
    Thank you.
    echardrd

    OK. Perhaps I am a little condused then. From what I read Oracle ASM recommends the use of RAW devices for ASM storage devices. What I have is a new LUN presented to my database server from the SAN. I assumed that the LUN needs to be mounted in some fashion on the server, but my SA tells me in order to mount it, would require the use of a filesystem. If we put a filesystem(NTFS, ext, etc) on the LUN prior to mounting it, will ASM be able to use it? If ASM can use a device that has a filesystem on it will this add unneccessary overhead (I/O)?
    I guess my question is for ASM should I
    1. use a RAW partition or a filesystem? Does it matter?
    2. Will RAW have better I/O performance?
    3. How do i make the LUN presentation from the SAN a usable RAW device to my database server? Any steps or guidance would be helpful since my SA and I can not seem to bridge this gap.
    Thanks.

    I'm trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro. I went through the process of bootcamp telling it to install windows 7. Once the windows boot manager started an error message came up. The error message says " windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. I don't have a usb connected to my computer. I  am using windows 7 professional install disc. I  can't figure out what i am doing wrong. The same message keeps coming up over and over. Am I doing something wrong or is it something else?

    Well, shucks, i just spent almost 30 minutes trying to find your model user guide to explain it better, I guess they never got around to making it.....
    I would just borrow another Windows disk and try installing it again and if it does it again then you might take it to an Apple Store and see if one of the "Genius' " can figure it out.
    Make sure your internet is enabled and click on your blank desktop and at the top of your screen is a Help menu option, enter PRAM and it should give you a list of things relating to Pram. It may take a few seconds to list anything as it has to connect to Apples severs first. It should list the things you may have to fill back in when your done.
    "P-ram" stores some common information that is used in the background, your date, time, startup disk, etc, that you don't have to re-fill when you restart, it's a little different for each computer.

When I got home from work I did this, at first iTunes could not detect the device and then it suggested a system restore. Once the restore had completed I selected the language, country/region and then came back to the same error message 'connect to iTunes'. When I tried to connect the device iTunes could not detect it and stated that there was a problem with the device.
