SCOM 2012 E-mail Notifications

I am monitoring router interfaces on SCOM.   One particular interface on the router we can only use the class of objects, Interface.
On the dashboard I created, I can select a router and the description shows the MIB2 name for PATH.  I set up an e-mail notification.  In the e-mail notification it I used:
$Data/Context/DataItem/ManagedEntityFullName$
It returned the info below.
System.NetworkManagement.NetworkAdapter:00-00-00-00-00-00;IF-adsl-012-251-001-042.sip.sdf.bellsouth.net/2
The name "IF-adsl-012-251-001-042.sip.sdf.bellsouth.net/2" doesn't tell me which location is having an issue with their router.  The MIB2 name and "Interface Alias" (object in the class, Interface) is the only thing we
can edit on router to describe location.
I need a way to make $Data/Context/DataItem/ManagedEntityFullName$  show the MIB2 name or a way to place the object, Interface Alias, in the e-mail notification.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Have you tried some of the variables found here?

  • SCOM custom e-mail notifications

We are using SCOM 2012 R2 CU2.  I am monitoring an interface on a group of routers using the class "interface."  Is there a way to add the object "Interface Alias" to the e-mail notification?  The object can be edited on
router to indicate which router is getting the alert.  When the interface is down then "Path" is "not present" and I don't know which router is getting the alert.
Due to VPN rerouting on the routers I am unable to use the "node" class which would indicate the router giving the alert through the object, PATH.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I am not very clear about your requirement, do you mean that when the interface is down, then in the notification Path is not there. What I can think out is to eidt the alert content for the monitor or rule.
And here is a blog about Adding custom information to alert description (s) and notifications, please refer to it:

  • SCOM 2012 SMS Alert Notification

    Hi,
I am using SCOM 2012 and I have a requirement of SMS Alert. but the issue that I am facing here is I have a Single Virtual Box for SCOM 2012, and what ever I experienced from SCOM 2007 physical was I had to configure a Modem through the USB device
    few years back..
now I have to configure the SMS notification on a Virtual Box of SCOM 2012...
any idea ? what could be done ?
    Regards, Owais

    Hi,
I think you need to make the SMS modem work with the virtual machine first. Then, configure the notification in SCOM consol.

  • SCOM 2012 SP1 Notifications - Escalation

    Hi,
I am looking to implement a tiered notification, with escalation..so for example..
    Initial alert hits Email Group
Unresolved after 30 mins text sent to on call engineer
Unresolved after a further 60 mins all engineers receive text
Is this possible to configure in scom 2012 sp1?
    Thanks
    Gareth

    Hi,
You can try this Process if still not done…
We assume that you have created one Group in SCOM and added respective servers or devices into that group. (Explicit or dynamic member)
We assume that for each level of notification you have created distribution list in
AD or Exchange and added those DL in to SCOM Subscriber
Also assume that mail delivery channel is created in SCOM
    Subscription 1:
    In Condition, Select
Raised by any instance in specific group and specify group name in Criteria
    Also you can specify
    severity, priority and resolution state
    –if required.
Add Immediate Alert Subscriber’s Distribution list ( Ex:-
    Helpdesk Team DL)
In Channels, select Email Channel which you create already also selects
    Send notifications without delay
And Enable this notification subscription when finish.
    Subscription 2:
    In Condition, Select
Raised by any instance in specific group and specify group name in Criteria
    Also you can specify
    severity, priority and resolution state
    –if required.
Add Call Engineers Distribution list ( Ex:-
    L1 Support Team DL)
In Channels, select Email Channel which you create already also selects
Delay sending notifications if conditions remain unchanged for longer than (in minutes) and specify the time as you mentioned 30 minutes
And Enable this notification subscription when finish.
    Subscription 3:
    In Condition, Select
Raised by any instance in specific group and specify group name in Criteria
    Also you can specify
    severity, priority and resolution state
    –if required.
Add All Engineers Distribution list ( Ex:-
    L2 Support Team DL)
In Channels, select Email Channel which you create already also selects
Delay sending notifications if conditions remain unchanged for longer than (in minutes) and specify the time as you mentioned 60 minutes
And Enable this notification subscription when finish.
    All three subscriptions
    severity, priority
and resolution state should select the same if you specified otherwise no need to worry.
Above steps will solve your query i think.

  • IM notifications not working SCOM 2012 R2

    Hi,
We are using SCOM 2012 R2 and we are trying to send alerts notifications through IM Channel (Server = Lync 2010, Client - Lync 2013), but nothing is happening.
Alerts are generated and notifications are sent by Email Channel, but not by IM Channel.
The configuration of the IM Channel is:
    Protocol option: TCP
    Authentication Mehtod: NTLM
    IM port: 5060
I also tried with this configuration:
    Protocol option: TLS
    Authentication Mehtod: NTLM
    IM port: 5061
I created a run as account, which has a valid SIP address and correctly configured for Instant messaging.
That account is a member of the Operations Manager Administrators role and it is set to be the Notification Account profile.
I was wondering if there is any log files where I can see what is wrong exactly?
Please let me know and thanks in advance!

Hello, I have a problem with my SCOM 2012 SP1. When it tries to send notification by IM Channel I get the following alert in SCOM:

    Description:
At least one invalid authentication signature was detected.
There were 2 messages with invalid signatures in the last 7112 minutes. The last one had the FROM header: sip:[email protected]
Cause: This could be due to a client or server which is not handling authentication correctly, or it could be due to an attacker.
    Resolution:
None needed unless the failure count is high (>100). Check your network for any rogue clients. Restart the server if problem persists.
Notifications sent by the SMTP channel work fine!
    I Have the following Servers:
    LCS (live.august.ru) - Win 2003 EE SP2 + Live Communication Server 2005 SP1
    SCOM - Win 2012 + SCOM 2012 SP1
Also I have a third server (Win 2003 + SCOM 2007 R2) and it sends notifications to the same VMLCS server successfully. The configurations of IM Channels are identical on both servers:
    IM server: live.august.ru
    Return address: sip:[email protected]
    Protocol option: TCP
    Authentication method: Kerberos
    IM port: 5060
I tried to change the Authentication method to NTLM, and the port to 5061, but it doesn't help...

    Hi All,
We have implemented Oracle EBS 11.5.10.2 on Windows (Financials and SCM).
Managers who are responsible for approving POs, want to approve the POs from their e-mails notifications.

ThiruHi there are two types of configurations to handle notifications.
    1. Outbound configuration: Responsible for sending notifications out.
    2. Inbound configuration: Responsible for reading and taking necessary action after receiving notification.
What you have already done is outbound (sending e-mails). Now you need to configure Inbound.
Please see Notification mailer in section
Once it opens in outlook, make sure it has the "NID (Notification id)" at the bottom and send it to the inbound e-mail you have configured in notification mailer.

  • New mail notification won't go away...

    Hi there!
    I'm using MacOS 10.7.4 and Mail 5.3 on a 13" MBP from 2012.
Lately I experience the problem, that the new mail notification (those little red numbers on the mail icon in the dock ) won't disappear after I read the mail.
When I quit mail completely and start it up again the notification is gone...
This behaviour is pretty new on my machine.
Can anybody help me with that?
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks, I did restart the dock and will let you wether that solved the problem!
It'll take a day or two until I'm sure the notification will be gone for sure after I read an email because the problem didn't appear on a regular basis.

  • No Server Name displyed in mail notification Alert generated by "total CPU Utilization Percentage is too high" Monitor

    Hello Everyone,
I need your assisstance in one of the issues with Mail Notification Alert generated by SCOM.
    Mail notification received as below:
Alert: Total CPU Utilization Percentage is too high
    Severity: 2
ServerName:Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard  - The threshold for the Processor\% Processor Time\_Total performance counter has been exceeded. The values that exceeded the threshold are: 97.091921488444015% CPU and a processor queue length of 16.
    Last modified by: System
The Alert was generated by "Total CPU Utilization Percentage"
But the problem with the above mail notification is it doesn't mentions about the affected server. So I would like to know how to tweak the monitors to provide the server name into it.

The periodic scripts or launchd would have to send the email. I don't think you have to do anything to send mail, just receive it, you can check that from the command line:
    mail [email protected]
When you finish your message put a period on a blank line and hit return, that indiecates the end of the message.
The one butt biter is that Apple puts a .forward file in all home directories that says to direct all mail to /dev/null , essentially it sends it to a black hole. You'll need to edit this file and put in your email address (if you want the email to go there) or the mails (should) wait for the user to run the mail command to read their messages.
The mail command has a fairly extensive man page:
    man mail

  • Alert forwarding triggers mail notification

    Hi.
I have configured a new product connector to forward alerts from SCOM to JIRA. The connector works fine, but every time I forward an alert to connector using "Forward to" command from alert context menu, it triggers mail notification subscription
when connector processes alert. The connector code does not modify alert in any explicit way: just retrieves alerts using GetMonitoringAlerts method of connector and then acknowledges recieved alerts with AcknowledgeMonitoringAlerts call (see code snippet
below). At the same time I can see "Alert modified by user" comment added to alert's history at forwarding time. Mail notification subscription is configured to pick up all critical alerts with "New" resolution state.
Is this an expected behaviour? I don't really want to spam operators with unnecessary mail every time an alert gets forwarded to an external system. Any ideas what can cause the issue and how to avoid it?
    Thanks!
    while( $true )
    $alerts = $conn.GetMonitoringAlerts()
    if ($alerts.Count -gt 0)
    $conn.AcknowledgeMonitoringAlerts($( Get-Date ))
    foreach( $alert in $alerts )
.... send alert info to JIRA ...
    Start-Sleep 60
    Gleb.

The way I see it the call acknowledgeMonitoringAlerts change something in the alert without changing the resolution state.  Scom process every even on every change so it get re-submit to all the subscription rule.  Since the resolution state
is still "new", it send a new email.
    You got 2 choice :
1- you do not update the alert when you transfert it
    or
2- In you script you update the resolution state of the alert to something else (not "new").

  • Send e-mail notification if "Assigned to" field is empty

    SCSM 2012 SP1.
I need to send e-mail notification to a distribution list if somebody creates an incident with empty "Assigned to" field. It could happen when an user sends new service request using self-service portal, incoming e-mail is processed,
or a support team member forget or cannot fill that field.
E-mail subscriptions do not work. I can create a rule with "User name is empty" condition, but it is never triggered.
I can use template with "Primary owner" and "Source" fields filled in advance to create SSP incidents. After that I can create workflow which sends notification to that person when an incident is created with "Portal"
specified as source. It works, but I can send notification to a single person only, not to a distribution list. What if that person is absent?.. In addition, I cannot use a workflow if "Assigned to" field is not filled during manual creation of the
    incident.
Is it possible to send such notifications at all?
