Scratches on a screen of brand new ThinkPad T61p

Hello
I've bought a brand new (factory sealed) ThinkPad T61p (warranty valid until 2011). I've found scratches on a screen. One is almost 2 inches long and has multiple tracks. There are also other smaller scratches in different areas. I didn't even tried to turn it on and enjoy a new great piece of hardware...
How this could be? Will Lenovo replace the LCD?
Kind regards

Hi andyP!
I purchased it on a polish internet auction from a private seller who bought it in the USA.
So it looks as though the TP is third hand. Keep trying, I wish you luck, but I believe you need to address your complaint against the seller, not Lenovo.

  • Blank Screen after splash screen on brand new HP Z420 workstation

Tried to install Windows 10 on brand new HP Z420 and it all l seemed to go well and ran for few days.
Now when I restart it the Windows splash screen shows briefly and then goes blank and black, no green light on monitor.
Cant get into safe mode by pressing F4.
About all I can do is try disabling BIOS setting like power management etc and maybe swap out the Nvidia K2000 Graphics card.
This is a very common hardware package that ships from HP with Windows 8.1 so it should just all work. Any one else had this or have any ideas??

OK, I have no explanation, but wiping the drive, reformatting and reinstalling XP from scratch fixed the problem for me.
I understand if you don't wanna take that route. It was my last, last last resort. But among the things that didn't work:
    Upgrading to XP from 2K
    Adding a beefier PSU
    Upgrading motherboard drivers to latest
Removing motherboard drivers totally and reinstalling
    Ditto video drivers
    Using different vid card
    Using onboard video
Removing one, then the other bank of RAM
    Reducing CPU frequency
    Increasing CPU frequency
Sacrificing a goat or a chicken
I have no idea what happened in the 1st place, and I hate unsolved/unexplained  glitches, but I'm glad my system's working again.
That's all I got to say about that.

  • Disappointment With Fan And Screen _Quality_ On New ThinkPad T430

Happy New Year.  I'm typing this as a means to blow off some steam and to warn anyone considering the purchase of a Lenovo product.  Yesterday I unboxed a new ThinkPad T430 (2344BMU), my second.  A year ago I purchased my first T430 (23445GU) and have been nothing but happy with it since, however, given the chance to upgrade the processor I took advantage.  The first thing I noticed when I powered up the new laptop was that the fan sounds like a small turbine when it kicks in, with a distinct whirring sound as it winds up.  This was a major surprise as the fan on my first T430 rarely ever caught my attention, and then only when really pushing the CPU.  The second thing I noticed, as the two laptops sat side-by-side, was that the screen on the new T430, despite having the same 1600x900 resolution, was noticably less vibrant than the old laptop's screen, as if there's a fine coating of dust on it.  Barely a half hour of research later I learned that Lenovo has multiple contracts for fan and screen production, with a distinct difference in quality among the manufacturers, and that it basically comes down to luck regarding screen and fan quality on any given computer sold by Lenovo.  Call me picky, but when I spend $1500 on something I expect a certain level of quality.  Here Lenovo has failed miserably.  Given that my purchase wasn't directly with Lenovo but through a third party, it seems that I've no recourse other than to grind my teeth while using my "awesome" new T430.  I'm actually typing this on the old laptop while updating the drivers and software on the new one, and it's taking a real effort to not smash the new laptop against the wall.  The fan is that intrusive.  Anyway, if even one person reads this and is saved the annoyance of my situation, then I can live with it.  My suggestion would be to never order a Lenovo product online, but to instead find a means to purchase a computer that you've already taken for a test drive so that you know you'll be happy with it.  Good luck.

Here is the fail:  "...my purchase wasn't directly with Lenovo but through a third party"
Perhaps you should just bitch and moan over on their Forum.

  • Cracked screen on brand new iPhone 5

I bought my new iPhone 5 through Optus and it was delivered Wednesday. I didn't get the extra Apple Care plan, and today, barely 3 days later there is a crack in the front glass!!!!! Can Apple fix this under the standard warranty or am I up for more money already??? It hasn't been dropped or bumped so not sure how the crack even got there? :(

No, it is not covered under standard warranty. An out of warranty replacement is $229. Some stores, but not very many, may have the equipment to replace just the screen for $149.

  • Mute button not working on brand new Thinkpad T61

I searched a lot of websites but everyone that had this problem was running linux.
I bought the thinkpad with Windows XP.
I'm a little surprised at the lack of quality control at Lenovo.
Since I specifically liked this mute feature, is the problem fixable or should I get it repaired under warranty?
    Thanks

Very strange indeed. You seem to be experiencing exactly what the OP in this thread wanted, but he was experiencing what you want, if that makes sense
I would suggest, as a first course of action, re-installing the HotKey drivers from c:\swtools\drivers\hotkey. It may be that the set-up requires you to uninstall them first.

  • White screen on brand new MBP 13"

    Dear all,
I bought a 13" MBP only a week ago and Im starting to see some very strange behavior.
    I have a 22" (1680 * 1050) external display connected with a original miniDP - DVI.
Yesterday when I was working both my laptop display and my external display turned white and I couldn't do anything but to restart the computer. This happened two times in a day and I decided to keep working without the external monitor and since then I haven't seen the problem.
What is causing this? I sit in a very hot environment, but I think its really bad that the computer doesn't take care of this by increasing fan speeds and limiting the resources to keep the cool. I only had one instance of Safari and Eclipse open, nothing using a lot of graphical power.
Is there any thing else I'm missing?
    Kind regards
    Erik

This happens on my 2010 13" MBP too. So far it has happened about 10 times since I bought this machine right after it was released, and only when an external screen has been connected via miniDP->DVI. None of the temperatures in istat or Temperature Monitor lite have been above 55 degrees when this has happened, so I really don't think it is temperature related.
It is terribly annoying when a screen whiteout strikes out of nowhere, and I am working on the machine without knowing if the work will be saved or not. Sometimes iTunes has been playing in the background without interruption, so it only affects display output it seems. Nothing happens if i pull the miniDP->DVI adapter, or anything else I can think of, except holding the power button for 4 seconds for a hard reset.
I usually just do office work and email on this machine, so it hardly ever sees intense CPU or GPU loads.
I had display issues with my 2008 Macbook as well (resolution choice for 16:10 disappeared), so far I have had less issues with my Hackintosh than the two genuine Apple machines I have. Go figure.

  • Brand New Thinkpad Stolen - Burglary

    Hi,
I was burgled today while in the shower.  Among the items stolen, was my less than one month old Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530.   Police came, dusted for prints, only found a footprint.
I am not insured yet, so not much I can do to replace the laptop, unless I see it in a local pawn shop.
My brother registered it with Lenovo UK, as soon as I got it,
My question is, my brother is asking, are there any anti-theft messures at all, like BIOS lockout, or any Lenovo security features that might help lockout the laptop, or trace the IP address of the person who bought it off the thief, or if the thief still has it and connects online with it?
Unfortunatly I did not get around to putting in a BIOS password, only Windows 7 password.
    Thanks in advance.

You would need to have purchased a 3rd party service, Computrace, that Lenovo offers as an option. If you didn't, you have no way to do what you want.

  • Black screen on brand new iMac 27?  I hit power, hear tone, a voice to assist with set up and no video...not even a flicker.

Bought 27 in iMac on 9/29, un-boxed and plugged in on 9/30.  Heard startup tones and voice to assist with set up, but never ANY video at all.  Not even a flicker.  Reset, unplugged, and powered off and on many times but same result...WTH Apple?!

  • Whenever I press the unlock button on my iPod touch 4g it shows just a blank white screen. Brand new iPod, never dropped.

Ive restored it but it hasn't been working. When I press the unlock button it turns white. This happens usually always but sometimes if I get lucky it'll work fine. I got this iPod off amazon and that is how it came. Any suggestions?!

I've done that multiple times but it doesn't fix it, because when it's back on, the problem happens again. I've even called Apple and they told me to restore it, and I did, but still nothing changed, exept that I've lost everything on my Ipod Touch.

  • I am stuck in the registration information screen? Brand new imac!

WHat should I do - I have filled in all the info and the continue tab is greyed out - I can only press BACK or PRIVACY POLICY??

That is strange - I've never seen that. Once you get to that page, have you gone through all the other pages such as setting up Mail, internet settings, porting over your data from another Mac or backup, etc, etc? In other words: are you finished setting it up except for the registration?
If yes, I'd simply go to the file menu above (on left) and click on - I'm guessing - Setup Assistant and choose Quit.
P.S. By the way, if you do not register that way, at some point you should go online and register at Apple's website (unless you bought it from Apple - it should then be registered for the warranty already).
Oh, and another thought - when you are doing that registration page, are you connected to the internet?

  • I got a brand new iPod Touch but I'd like to know if I could exchange or return it so I can get the new one. It has no scratches and hasn't been dropped.

I want to know if this is possible. I'd obviously pay what's left for the newer version, but I don't even know if this is possible. Again, my iPod has zero scratches, hasn't been dropped, brand new. I had a case on it the whole time. Please reply! Thank you.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Access Connections broken on brand new laptop

    Hello Helpful People!
I've got a brand new ThinkPad W510.  Whenever I try to use ThinkPad Access Connections to set a location, Windows Wireless Service sneaks in and takes over.  This means that ThinPad Access Connections is completely useless for me.
Any thoughts on a registry change or whatever, that would make Windows Wireless Server not take over from TVAC?
By the way, when I turn off "WLAN Auto Config" in services.msc, that disables TVAC completely also.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

Access Connections uses the wireless subsystem of the operating system.  Under XP, AC was a replacement.
You will see "Windows Wireless Service" in Access Connections when you create wireless profile outside of Access Connections. I would suggest removing all AC profiles, then open the wireless setting under manage networks and remove all the wireless profiles left over.  From that point on, only make wireless connections through Access Connections.

udate: when I push to number 2 on keyboard, volume down button goes back to normal position, and makes popping sound, something is wrong:-(

The malfuction of keyboard can be caused by driver problems.
You can try install keyboard driver by following instructions.
    Step 1
Click Start, then right-click "My Computer" (or "Computer") and click "Manage".
    Step 2
In the Computer Management window, on the left, click "Device Manager".
    Step 3
Click the "+" sign in front of Mouse and other pointing devices.
    Step 4

    Step 6
Restart the system. Windows will detect and automatically install the driver.
If it does not help, I know an excellent tool that may help you install drivers automatically.

  • My brand new iMac (late 2012, 27") has a little scratch or something on the screen

I just bought a new imac 27", later half hour of use I noticed it has a little scratch on the screen, not on the front glass but behind it. too strange to be some dead pixel. Someone can tell me what is? Do AppleCare cover this? If they do, has to be exchange the whole machine or just the display? here is some picture:

It looks to me like a row of pixels but in any event you must return it within the 14 day period (or at least have a formally confirmed agreement that you will be doing this).   The latter applies if you live too far away from a suitable returns venue and it has to be returned by carrier.   Usually all carriage costs are covered.
