Script to Restore latest backup from portable drive

We are trying to write a script to automate the Restore of the most recent Windows Server Backup from a portable drive?
First part is to write a script to reload the backup catalog from the portable drive.  What we have so far is:
$Bt = "\\?\Volume{58895c2e-a4f6-4143-8be0-83c858f516cc}\"
Restore-WBCatalog -BackupTarget $Bt -Force
But that doesn't work because it doesn't seem to like to volume label.
The second part is creating a command to start a WBAdmin restore using the latest latest volume to recover.  This is where I could do with a few clues if anyone has any.
Thanks,
  Nick

Hi Nike,
The error imply a wrong input type in the parameter "BackupTarget", which should be a type of "WBBackupTarget".
Please try to use the cmdlet "Get-WBCatalog", then pipe the result to the cmdlet "Restore-WBCatalog".
You can try the script below, please note I haven't tested:
$Policy = Get-WBPolicy
$Bt=Get-WBBackupTarget -Policy $Policy
Restore-WBCatalog -BackupTarget $Bt -Force
If there is no wbbackuptarget, please create a new one, to work with Backup and Restore in powershell, you can get cmdlets and good examples from here:
Windows Server Backup Cmdlets in Windows PowerShell
I hope this helps.

  • How can i restore my backup from hard drive, it says files modified by OSX

    Hello
Before i update my mac i backup all my files to the external hard drive after i update it to OSX (10.9)i can not restore them, due to new update i had to change my hard drive thats how i lost all my files
please guid me how can i restore my files
    regards

Not familiar with the Mac file structure either but you can transfer the entire content of your Firefox profile replacing entire content of a firefox profile you created on new HD. For me copying over a few files was out of the question all of the files are updated and I wasn't about to reinstall 150+ extensions and set up configurations for everything and to do that for that 20 profiles and .ini file. Except for 3 most didn't have a lot of extensions but it would be rather impossible.
I copied everything from the Mozilla folder down in the user libraries so all my profiles were set, it did something similar for application libraries.

  • How to restore MobileSync Backup from Hard Drive to new iTunes?

I am in serious need of help!
My laptop which had Windows 7 running was crashing down after 4 years. When I brought it to the service center they took my internal drive out to save all the data before too late.
The problem is I never had the chance to backup my iTunes properly, and now that I'm usiing a new computer, how can I possibly retrieve all the old data?
The internal drive from the older computer has now been made into a hard drive. I just downloaded the same version of iTunes I was using on this new computer, but how can I possibly restore my older iTunes library. I don't care very much about the music actually, but the mobilesync backup, like messages, notes and etc.
    Thnaks in advance!

    HI Brigdool,
It depends how you made the backup.
If you copied your entire iTunes folder onto the flash drive, just copy it back to the appropriate place on the computer.
If you copied individual folders or files, add them back to iTunes by inserting the flash drive in your computer, and then dragging the files into your "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder.
The first method recreates your library as it was, with all playcounts, playlists, etc.  The second method builds a new library with the same content.

  • Restore a backup from time machine

I made a clean install of Mountain Lion on the MB Pro of my wife from a bootable USB drive. All went well until I tried to retrieve data from her Time Machine backup that are stored on our Time Capsule HD. In setup, and later in migration assistant only the backup of my own MacBook Pro was found. Nevertheless the last backup of my wife's MB Pro, shortly before the clean install, finished succesfully. Also, I can see the sparsebundle in Finder and I can also mount it. I tried to repair the sparsebundle with no success. I have two questions. Firstly, what else can I try to make the backup available to Migration Assistant and secondly, is it possible to copy files and directories from the mounted sparsebundle as a last resort to retrieve the data that is visibly sitting there? Any help is most appreciated.
PS I copied the sparsebundle to an external USB disk in the hope that Migration Assistant would `see' it, again without success.

Thanks, Pondini, for the quick reply. I will try out your suggestions. I intended to do a full restore from the backup system. However, as I did already perform a clean ML install, the backup is no longer recognized by Time Machine as belonging to that MB Pro. So, if I click the TM icon nothing happens.
Apple doesn't make it clear, but that's not how you do a full system restore.  You start from your Recovery HD and use the option there, as detailed in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #14.  It doesn't matter what's on the OSX volume, since you're not running from it, and it will be erased before the backup is copied to it.
PS The repair I tried was based on the procedure explained onhttp://www.garth.org/archives/2011,08,27,169,fix-time-machine-sparsebundle-nas-b ased-backup-errors.html and the result of running fsck_hfs was that it could not be repaired.
Not a good sign.  That may be why Migration Assistant didn't recognize it.
It's possible a 3rd-party heavy-duty disk repair app, such as DiskWarrior, can fix it, but DW is about $100, and there's no guarantee it can fix the damage.
The full system restore might work, depending on where the damage is, but it's a crapshoot.  If you get far enough to see the list of backups, but restoring the most recent one fails, see #E8 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting
The attempt might have made a mess of the sparsebundle, but luckily I have a copy on an external hard disk. Is it possible to restore the backup from the external hard disk, despite the fact that the data are packed in a sparsebundle?
Yes, the full system restore, Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant can be used in that case. But most likely, the copy has the same damage as the original, so it's doubtful for that reason.
The Time Machine browser can also be used in that setup, if the backups aren't too badly damaged, but you must manually mount the sparse bundle first.  In your case, you'll probably need to use the Browse Other Backup Disks option, per #17 in the FAQ.   If the backups do appear that way, you can probably restore selected files and folders, unless you happen to hit the damaged spot(s).  It's a bit of a crapshoot, too.

  • Restoring a backup from a 9500 to a 9300

I broke my 9500 (yes silly me ) and the insurance copmpany said there are no more 9500s available but I could have a 9300 so I took one, however the tech support at Club Nokia now say I can't restore the data from backup of the 9500 to the 9300, so my five years of contacts is gone!! Did some engineer at Nokia really think about this, no upward compatibility between backup data ??? Additionally why isn't the backup data stored in an 'open' format, it's not accessible to any other application, are these guys living in the real world, has no one at Nokia heard of 'open' systems ?

No, don't copy files anywhere. Just go into your backup area in My Documents and rename the existing folder to reference your new device.
Hang on. From one of my FAQs:
"Should you need to restore a Nokia 9300 or 9500 backup onto a new device (either because you've swapped one for the other or because you've got a replacement after a hardware fault), it's worth noting that PC Suite needs you to make sure that the backup files have the right name. If the names don't match, it won't let you do the restore.
Let's say you had a 9500. Having connected up your new 9300 for the first time, it will probably take the name 'Nokia 9300' (surprise, surprise). Now the last backup of your 9500 can be found in '\My Documents\Backup files', with a filename resembling 'Nokia 9500 25-04-2005.nfb'. Simply rename the file, changing the start of the filename to be 'Nokia 9300'. You should now be able to restore your 9500 backup.
Do please note that restoring a backup from a different device isn't guaranteed to work. Hardware differences (no camera or Wi-Fi on the 9300) and firmware differences mean that a direct restore is very much an experiment. If it doesn't work, you'll have to rebuild your internal 'C' disk from scratch, syncing over your latest PIM data and then installing applications and documents."

  • After moving from Canada to the US, getting a new iPhone 5C, and restoring my backup from iCloud, I can't update my apps. I get an error message that my account is not valid in the Canadian App store and I must change to the US store. How do I do that?

    Change here:
Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID: > View Apple ID > Country/Region.
You must have a verified billing address & be located in the country whose store you are trying to use.

  • Problem Restoring iTunes backup from DVD

I've searched and haven't seemed to find an answer to my particular issue, so if this has been asked and answered apologies. Here's my situation:
I am able to backup my entire library on my windows computer to move everything over to my imac. During the backup I didn't get any error messages. I restore the backup from DVD but for some reason one of the disks just will not restore and I have to keep skipping it. I can open it up and I see the files there, compilation folder with songe folders inside, some audio books, an album or two purchased from iTunes and a few albums from CDs that I actually own the physical media. I presume something is corrupted but don't know what.
My question is this: has anyone else experienced a similar situation and if so, were you able to get the disk to restore? If not, is there a way that I can select just the items from this bad disk to backup so that I don't have to do the entire back up again? As previously mentioned, I can browse the "bad" DVD and can see the items and folders? At the very least, I'd like to backup and restore the itunes purchased music and audio books and compilations; the other items I can just import from the cds that I own.
Thanks...I'm really getting frustrated after having tried this five or six times.

can somebody help i/m basically having the same problem but my error message says an unknown error occurred

Yes. You cannot Restore a Backup to an Earlier version of iOS.
Your iPhone 5s needs to have iOS 7.1 to match your iPhone 4 on iOS 7.1
