Search/Find by Contact Name

While running through a standard demo, was unable to search in find mode in the contact name field in a Sales Quotation or Sales Opportunity - Is this a locked field, is this something that cannot be done in B1 2007, Is there a fix?

Sherry,
I could only think of a work around by using a Formatted Seach on the Sales Quote Number field to look for the Contact Person.
Sample SQL
<b>SELECT T0.DOCNUM FROM [DBO].[OQUT] T0 INNER JOIN [DBO].[OCPR] T1 ON T1.CNTCTCODE = T0.CNTCTCODE
WHERE T1.[NAME] = '[%0]'</b>

  • Search Customers using Contact Phone in R12

    Hi,
We are using Ebusiness Suite 12.0.4 and for specific business reason the end customer(person) are defined as ship to contact of one generic Customer account(Organization). This has lead to data where there is one customer account having 100's of shipto sites, and each site has one or more contact person defined. Now the problem we are facing is searching for a specific customer contact.
With the change in the UI in R12, we have search fields for contact name and contact phone number in the search screen, but when we search for a given contact name or a phone number, it returns Customer Account, and on clicking details of that account, we get all the sites(not the one corresponding to the contact or phone from the search criteria). So the user has to go through all the sites to get to specific contact.
We need the ability to go to a specific contact point directly after the search. Has anyone faced this issue before? Any insight on how to achieve this functionality would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Nitin

    Hi
We have faced this issue as well. The contacts arent linked to the sites directly but I see it linked to the cust account.
I am not sure if thats the way its supposed to be or we arent interpretting them correctly.

  • Snow Leopard's Address Book now Requires Full Name to find a Contact

In all previous versions of Address Book, the user could simply type 'T' to instantly go to contacts with last names that start with 'T' (and businesses that start with 'T').
In Snow Leopard, Address Book can no longer search with one letter the way it did before; it uses a 'Spotlight' type of search where the user must type the full name in order to get an exact match. This type of searching is useful for finding documents on the Mac or searching the Internet, but is totally inefficient for finding contacts in Address Book.
It sounds like someone at Apple decided this was a better way to search for contacts, because this change in search method is described in the new Address Book 'Help' file; it says, "As you type, Address Book begins to search all the information on the cards, including notes, and displays matching contacts, with the matching text highlighted in each card." For example, let's say someone used to type 'T' to search for a contact named Bill Tilman. Now what happens is that Address Book stops at the first person who's first name starts with 'T', and highlights all the T's in the person's card (the T in 'telephone', the T in 'Street', etc. The user must now scroll through all their contacts manually to find Bill Tilman, or else manually type out the complete name 'Bill Tilman'. (If they just type 'Bill', they will only get the first person named Bill.)
I hope Apple will reconsider and will allow Address Book to do the quick one-letter searches by last name (as opposed to 'Sort' by last name, which it still has) like it used to. (Or at least make this a choice in Address Book Preferences.) This would also be more compatible with the way iPhone searches for contacts; when you select a letter in the iPhone's contacts, it finds contacts who's last name starts with that letter, as well as businesses, just like Address Book always used to.

Thanks for your response Ernie. You are correct in that whenever you type a series of letters, Address Book (as it always has) finds every single thing with that combination of letters - Names, businesses, adjectives, people's dogs' names, letters in product serial numbers, etc. This is useful for finding a subject on the Web, or finding all documents related to 'iPhoto' on your Mac, etc., but not useful, quick or convenient when trying to find one person to call in your Address Book (which is what people use Address Book for).
What is DIFFERENT in the Snow Leopard version, is that the ability to type one letter to instantly go to last names with that letter has been removed. Previously, you could easily find 'Bill Tilman' in one second by simply typing 'T'. Now you get every word that starts with T and all the words in the card that have a T in them. If you type out a full name like 'Bill', it finds every person named Bill. No one would ever want to find all their contacts named Bill to call them. You could type out the full last name 'Tilman', but there again you are forced to type out a complete name to do a search. It would actually be quicker to scroll down and find it manually. The ability to type a single letter to find the last name (or business name) of a contact you needed to call, was much quicker and easier than having to type out the entire name.

  • Searching in text by contact name

Before iOS6, I could search by contact name within the text messages area and it would sift through my long list of text messages to bring up the contact name that I had texted with.  Now it appears that Apple is not allowing the contact name to be included in the search criteria, because when I type in someone's name to search for the last thread of texts with them, if there first name is not in one of the text messages, it brings NOTHING up.  Apple please fix this like it was before.  Allow the full name of the person (contact in your address book) to be automatically among the search criteria when you search through text messages.
    Thanks,
    DN

It seems you have not synced the contacts to OVI Suite.. Connect the phone to PC.. Open OVI Suite..Sync-->Sync Now-->Contacts..
Check the Messages after the sync is over..

  • How to search contact names only

Hello! I have quite a bit of a problem. I get in contact with a lot of people and have over 500 contacts. Now for each contact I usually copy and paste emails or whatever and add it into the notes section under each contact. Now when I try to search for something in the contacts APP, for example, if I type John Doe,
everything would be searched, even all the John Doe in the notes field would be search also. So emails would show up ([email protected]) instead of the actual contact name itself. So it causes a bit of problem scrolling through all these search just to find a contact number/email. Any way to limit the search to only the contact names and nothing else?

    Hi --
It's all a moot point now. I just selected All Photos, put the Broswer into full window grid view, set the thumb size very small, and started scrolling down -- stopping whenever I saw the distinctive Stack patch.
The reason for all this was to do a final clean up of some lingering Rotated vs. Non-Rotated duplicates which were still in my iPhoto Libraries before I imported them into my new Aperture Library. In Aperture, they became Stacks in which one image was Keyworded as an "iPhoto Original" and the other as an "iPhoto Edited".
But now I have a new Search question which perhaps you might have a suggestion for. The thread is at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1771699&tstart=0

People - you critisize something you've no idea about! Smart dialing (also called T9) is NOT about text input for God's sake...it's about dialing a contact in a really quick and simple way just by clicking on one of 10 dial buttons (much bigger and easier to be tapped btw especially on the move) and the phone finds all the contacts matching typed combination
For example I want to dial contact MLADD - I then tap on 6,5,2,3,3 and the phone searches for contacts matching all the combinations hidden on these numbers.
Another example: see Apple's website containing contact line number specified in 2 ways: (800) MY-IPHONE (800-694-7466)
Do you get my point now?
I've used at least 6 different phones in my life so far and went through most of well known platforms including Symbian, Blackberry, Android, Windows Phone and now iOS. I'm very sure there is no better and faster way to quickly and easily dial somebody but by using a smart dial. Dialing somebody this way takes 2 seconds while dialing using tapping on contacts field, then typing a word using keyboard (assuming you click on a right button when on the move) takes a while longer and is frustrating.
It's just a matter of a wider perspective when looking at this problem. If you would use it at least once - you would demand it as well.
For people liking tapping everywhere to perform basic actions - let it be as it is, but why not to improve something by adding an additional option in setting and enable SmartDial?

I am also having problems with a site I am building. No matter what websafe font I use it displays as New Times Roman in FireFox. The correct fonts show in both IE9 and Chrome.
In addition, text shifts in FireFox. I have to position other text objects farther and farther apart as I go down the page or they start to overlap. Nav buttons and other images also have to be positioned in the wrong place for them to be in the correct place when the page is opened in FireFox. FireFox should display pages correctly by default. I can't expect th average user to have to tweek his/her settings to display my site.
I have been recommending FireFox on my website as the best browser. I might have to change that and abandon FireFox myself.

  • Some contacts have disappeared from my phone contacts. They are still in the phone because if someone calls me their name appears and if i search in text for contacts they are still there - but if i search in phone contacts they are not there, Help

Some contacts have disappeared from my phone. Not all just random ones. They are still in the phone because if someone (who has disappeared from my phone contacts calls me their name appears and if i search in text messages for contacts they are still there - but if i search in phone contacts they are not there, Help!

But once again, I do not want to lose my other texts, app progress, and photos. I could sync the photos but i would still lose the app progress and texts. I would only restore if it was the only option left, but the other space, as already stated, isnt the main concern. The main concern is those 'deleted' texts. If they go, then a good size chunk of the other space goes. I know you CAN delete texts for good. It worked fine before. All i want to know is why its not working for me now, and how to fix it.
I also know that when you delete texts on your iphone, they get marked for deletion, however they stay on your device (thats why they show up when you search for them.) then when you sync your device with itunes, the texts marked for deletion should disappear. When i synced they didnt disappear. Thats what i need an explanation/solution for. Why the texts marked for deletion didnt get fully deleted after the sync.

  • How can I get iOS "Contacts" to sort search results on a name-first, other-fields-next basis?

Example: I type "jo sm" into the search bar in Contacts on iOS 7, expecting John Smith and Josephine Smolens to appear at the top of the list, as they are the only ones of my contacts whose name matches the pattern "jo* sm*".  Instead, they are perhaps numbers 15 and 34 on the list, as other peoples' Notes fields also contain the pattern "jo* sm*".
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

This does not answer my question.  I apologize for my lack of clarity when I tried to explain the problem.
To clarify: I'm not using wild card characters; I was just trying to explain the behavior I get and how it's different from what I want.  Let me try again a slightly different way:
When I type "jo sm" into the Search bar in iOS 7 Contacts, I want the first results to be the people whose First Name starts with (or even just contains) "jo" and whose Last Name starts with (or contains) "sm".
Instead, I get all contacts whose Notes contain the letters "jo" and "sm" anywhere at all (which is many many people), and they are given to me in an order that seems random.  Therefore, when I type "jo sm", I don't see the contact I'm looking for because he/she is routinely three pages down the list.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Contact names not appearing in texts or when calls recieved

I got off a plane from the UK to the US (this was a return trip, i'm from the US on Verizon) and when I turned my iPhone 4S back on, all of the contact names (who are in my Contacts) disppeared from emails, texts and my phone log.  A friend told me to "Import SIM Contacts" but that didn't do anything.  I deleted all of my texts hoping that when I sent new texts and recieved calls names would appear, however they still are not.  Is there anything I can do other than take it to the Genius Bar?

I didn't have the problem when returning from International, but I did have the problem right after my new Verizon iphone was set up last week.
After reading some of the posts in the support forum, I first edited my contacts to include the +1 in front of the phone numbers (this may have been an unnecessary step, and it certainly was an annoying one).
Second, I used the *228 set up feature, closed the phone, contacts and text functions on the phone, then turned the phone off and back on, and it seemed to fix the problem for the most part.  I think if you search the forum for *228, you will find posts that have the full sequence of steps to follow..
I have other issues with my phone, but at least this one seems cleared up for now.

  • Searching Text in Contact Notes Field

    Hi,
I have been a Windows Phone user all along. I am interested in switching over to Nokia.
I am looking for one basic requirement of being able to search through the Contacts Field for any text.
I use MS Outlook and store lot of text in the Notes Field inside each of my Contact and I need to be easily able to bring up all contacts that have a particular word or string inside the notes area. I can easily do this in Windows phone. But so far no nokia user has been able to tell me for sure if this is possible, if so how.
Thanks in advance for your advise.

Yes you CAN search the notes field (for any text) in a contact, but ONLY with Nokia's Search Utility (free download http://mobilesearch.nokia.com/index.html).
The Address Book application is limited to searching by first name, last name, and company name only.
The Nokia Search Utility is very good, but it's not exactly fast. Generally speaking the Symbian operating system requires patience.
It's worth knowing that Nokia phones impose a limitation on the size of the notes field in an Outlook contact. The limitation varies from each Nokia model. But for example, notes (in a contact record) are limited to 255 characters on the N80, and 1,000 (one thousand) characters on the N95. On my old Nokia 6600 there was no such limit imposed, which was great. I often wonder why the oldest model phone had better support for Outlook sync, than the latest models - perhaps it's all about memory conservation.
I also use the notes section in my Outlook contacts extensively. Ideally I would use a Windows Mobile device for true Outlook synchronisation. But I can't find a Windows Mobile device as capable as the N95, so I tolerate and find work arounds Nokia's sync issues.
Nokia do a good job of updating their software frequently. Hopefully if it's demanded enough, they will remove the limitation on the size of the Notes field.
Microsoft Outlook 2003 also has a limit on the size of the Notes field in a Contact Record, but it's much more generous at over 1,000,000 (one million) characters.
Come on Nokia! Stop truncating the notes field!

  • Why can't I search/filter on display names?

See Question. Yes, it's 'display names', so I guess you can only see them on the display while thunderbird pretends to not know them really.
Still this is a less useful non-feature which annoys me a lot.

    Display name:
is useful in identifying emails from specific people like family and friends.
    It is more informal.
The shortened format means the 'From' column header does not need to be so wide - especially if these emails have been filtered to suitable folders.
for example: it is more user friendly to see FROM Mum instead of the long email address and many peopke do not always send emails showing their name.
However, like many things, you are not obligued to use it in the contact properties.
    Regarding searching:
It depends upon how you are doing it. there are different search methods and each will search in a slightly different way.
If using 'Quick Filter Bar' then it does not search on Display name as those options are not available. It searches on Sender , Recipient, Subject and Body. But if the display name happens to be used in the body content then it will display.
If using global search then it does search on a display name.
Enter the display name in the search eg: Mum and select the Mum and email address option from the drop down offered.
It will show display name and email address, so you can select the search parameters.
    If using this method:
Edit > Find > Search messages
This method searches on specific fields/headers and therefore will not search on a display name.
So I would recommend you try using the global search option if searching by a specific display name.

  • After Mac Desktop Install/Sync - "Find" in Contacts Disabled !!!!!

Running V10.5.8 on 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo on 20in iMac.
After installing the newly released BB Desktop for Mac & Sync'ing my BB Tour...... all of my contacts from my Mac address book were successfully imported in my BB contacts.  However, now the "FIND" function within my BB contacts no longer functions.  I have over 500 contacts & now how to manually scroll via trackball down thru the list to locate each name I'm looking for.
Additionally, when addressing mail I now have to manually type-in the email address the the "TO" & "CC" or "BCC" field since they too cannot find my contacts.   Similar problem when searching for a contact when using the phone to search contacts.
I've tried uninstalling & re-installing the Desktop Mgr but still no help.
    Anyone else having this problem?!
    Grateful for any recommendations/solutions!

I have the same exact problem.   I was using MIssing Sync which was pretty good.   I went with the BB solution so I could upgrade my BB w/out a PC... but alas everything is now broken and I can't go back.   With over 1600 contacts my unit is pretty much a brick for placing outgoing calls - I don't have that much time to scroll through my address book.
UPDATE:  I uninstalled everything from my old Missing Sync install and reset synch services and went to the newest version of Missing Sync (2.0.3) in beta.  It now works as it should.
I can only hope that the BB folks fix this in an upcoming version.
