Security solutions - no remote wipe Freeware

Hi,
I have an E61 and I am amazed by the number of different security solutions for locking the phone, sending thief-finding text messages, remotely turning on a siren and all sorts of fancy gadgets.
I´m equally amazed by the fact that up to now a security suite by Kaspersky seems to be the only one offering a feature called "remote wipe", quite simply allowing you to remotely wipe the internal memory of your phone.
Let´s be honest, when your phone is stolen, your chances of getting it back are very bleak at the best. Text messages telling you the location of your phone or automatic locking upon an unsolicited SIM change won´t help you getting it back and turning on a siren in the thief´s pocket in the middle of the night or locking the phone might annoy him a little, but it won´t help you. Finally, when a thief is determined to get to the stuff you have in your phone, every encryption code that can be applied to a PHONE is only a matter of time.
Wouldn´t it be much more reassuring to know that your data is GONE and thus rendered utterly unreachable to a thief?
I would be happy to know your opinions about this - it´s a subject that really interests me.

Hendikoischnur

Hi,
does nobody have an opinion on this? Or am I really the only one thinking it´s insufficient to know valuable data that has been stolen is encrypted and it will take a little while to crack it?
That security suite that has a remote_wipe feature is quite costly, but never mind. I would rather pay for an algorithm that will, in the case of theft, destroy my data as close to >beyond recovery as possible than pay for encryption that´s only so much of a consolation when the phone is stolen.
I imagine that should even be reasonably easy to program? [not for me, I´m not a programmer] It´s obviously possible to remotely access the file system as that is what´s needed to lock it down, too, so it should be possible to remotely invoke sth. like the >shred command to destroy the data?
I´ve already entered this as a Software wish on the S60 website, but I haven´t got any kind of answer yet.

Hendikoischnur

  • Lost Apple iPhone - a security procedure to remotely 'wipe' the device?

    Hello,
I have a brand new iPhone and would like to know what I would have to do if I ever lost permanent possession of it. Is there a procedure such as logging into the .me (.mac) account and selecting my personal passworded and double protected member's top secret area (lol), that I could report my device missing and would then be able to 'wipe' the iPhone clean of all contents before another user could gain access and control it AND possibly me via all my other macs.
Basically, can someone gain control of all my macs if I were to lose my iPhone? Is this possible, and if so, please could you let me know where to find it on the Apple website so I can be prepared to follow the procedure and take control of the lost iPhone from anywhere, wiping it clean of all content and disabling the device forever (this device will explode in 10 seconds... hey don't joke, that may happen one day!), can I gain access remotely to my iPhone and disable it... from my macs or someone else's mac/iphone/blackberry et al, even if someone else DOES gain control of it. Is there a backdoor that I could gain access to while someone else is using my iPhone and shut it down there and then. How quickly could this be done? Securely.
    Many thanks,
    GC

Remote wipe is available from the exchange server for iPhones deployed in the enterprise environment.

However, it you have the 2.1 iPhone upgrade and put a passcode lock on the phone, you can have the option to wipe data after ten failed passcode attempts.

  • Security on E61 - remote wipe?

    Hello,
I have my E61 for just one and a half months now and I don't have any sensitive data on it yet, but I want to make sure just in case: Is it possible to set up a routine that would allow me, in case I lose it, to call the mobile and effect a sweeping of the entire phone memory and card so that the data cannot be retrieved and change the Active Standby-Screen to sth. like "This phone has been stolen. Contact..."
    Thank you very much!

OK. I have activated the lock features and the password for the memory card and I´ll have a look at that mediasafe thingy. That must be enough for the moment.
Anyway, work is underway on a mobile version of the Ubuntu/ Linux OS, as soon as that is sufficiently stable I will copy it onto my mobile if that´s possible.
The E61 I have now was just an alternative, I was actually waiting for the new OpenMoko Neo, but they couldn´t finish it in time.

  • Remote wipe security

after terminating employment my 3Gs got wiped remotely. I had the company email linked to my phone via microsoft exchange. The company IT person walked me through the steps to get it started. Is it possible that he had enough info about my phone to add it to his MobleMe account to perform the remote wipe function? If so, how do I secure the phone so that he can't do it again while leaving it capable for me to do it if it is stolen?

    In a word, no.
This was done from the Exchange server with your Exchange account, not with your MobileMe account.
He would need to have access to your MobileMe account, which he doesn't have unless he knows your MobileMe account password, which he wouldn't have access to with or from your iPhone. If you are worried about this anyway, you can always change the password for your MobileMe account.

  • Lumia 520 "Remote wipe of user data via Internet"

I'm interested in purchasing a Lumia 520 and read on the spec site that it can do "Remote wipe of user data via Internet" (http://www.nokia.com/in-en/phones/phone/lumia-520/specifications/).
Is there any special software that I need to be able to do this (like have it connected to a BlackBerry server in the case of enterprise BlackBerry devices) or is it as simple as stated on (http://www.noknok.tv/2013/05/02/how-to-find-your-lost-nokia-lumia-running-windows-phone-8/) where all you have to do is log into windowsphone.com where you can erase a linked phone?
This phone will be used for business so in case it is lost I need the ability te remote wipe it. Our company currently has a BB server and we all have BB devices, but with BB not doing so well I was thinking of getting a Nokia.
    Thanks.
    Solved!

So far so good. That's great news. If I could ask one follow up question though:
Would it matter if the same SIM is installed on the phone? Lets say the 'thief' was able to get into the phone with a different SIM (if the security was not setup correctly) - would the phone be erased based on the SIM that's installed or on the IMEI number of the device?
    Thanks
If there's no data connection, windowsphone.com cannot access your phone to send push notifications and if push notifications fail, then it will try to send SMS to your phone.
I just tried to ring my phone after taking out the SIM card, it was connected to wi-fi and I could ring it.

  • Client Security Solutions cannot reinstall

    Hello.
I have a T61.  Recently loaded with xp.  I updated the Client Security Solutions to 8.2 and the firefox 3.0 patch both of which went well.  The password manager worked fine for a week or so and then stopped communicating.  It would not even manage the database.  I uninstalled css only to find I could not reinstall it.  Each attempt fails with a dialog box stating error 25003, failed to check computer manufacturer.  I've also tried to install version 8.1 with the same error.  I've cleared the TPM and ran system updates.  At this point short of a clean installl factory reset of the entire laptop, I'm at a loss.  Below is the end of the install log.  It wouldn't let me post it in its entirety.  Thank you

    Thanks for the reply.
I was using an older version of RnR, however, after the attempt to re-install, I upgraded to the latest version.  It still errors out.
As to your second guess, I was hopefull this was the fix, I had forgotten to go through the registry.  I deleted an empty CSS folder in the Common Files folder.  And found several registry entries which have now been deleted.  I don't believe I missed any.  But unfortunately no luck.  I cleared the chip again as well.
If it adds any clues, the system update was not working either.  But the language fix posted on the forums resolved it.  If I remember correctly the first time I tried to reinstall CSS it did ask a question/comment about language not matching.  I could be wrong, however, there have been alot of attempts.
I spoke with tech support on the phone with the only suggestion being a clean restore of the laptop which I would like to avoid.
    Thanks again.

  • Remote wipe for local sync data

    Hello,
when will remote wipe be and option for onedrive for business,

Thanks. I know about the passcode feature. I just think it would be even more secure if you could remotely wipe your own iPhone, using iTunes.
I also think it would be great if the internal camera, microphone and GPS could be secretly turned on and used to track a thief, if your iPhone was stolen. The GPS in particular seems a no-brainer to me. You'd know EXACTLY where it was, and could send the police round to retrieve it

  • Is it possible to remote wipe a device when it's not fetching mail?

We're looking at deploying some shared iPads.  We don't want people to be tempted to install their own email accounts on them, so we were going to try to lock that out.  However, I've found that without an associated AND ACTIVE email account we can't do a remote wipe.  It'd be OK to have an email account associated if it wasn't pulling in email, because then tapping on the email icon wouldn't be so tempting, but if we have email disabled the device doesn't seem to pull in the kill message.  We're using Lotus Traveler as our mobile device management server, but I think other solutions are the same -- they depend on the association with a mail account to do remote wipe.
Is there some other tool that can trigger a remote wipe that's NOT email based?
    Thanks.

I familiar with Exchange and as I understand, it does require an email connection.  One thing we tried out in exchange wsa connecting the device to an account that had mail forwarding turned off...that way you had the remote wipe capability, but no mail would be delivered.

  • Remote Wipe with iPhone without exchange server

    Hello All
I have a question about the new "remote wipe" feature in the iPhone 2.0 software upgrade. I like the idea of it for security reasons in case the phone gets taken, but I am a private individual without access to an enterprise server. I do have a "mobile me" account - and was wondering if it was possible to do a 'remote wipe" without an exchange server either as a mobile me member or in some other way? It would let me feel more comfortable carrying around my original iPhone with more data.
Anyone know how this will work?
In case it matters, I have an iPhone 8GB.

I guess my question is that from my understanding "mobile me" is a fake enterprise server service, exchange for the rest of us. So that's why it would seem to be a natural link if they're able to do push email, calendars, etc. then it seems that we would not need to have a separate APP in order to do a remote wipe. But I don't know how it technically works.

  • How do I use the remote wipe feature for file vault 2 / lion?

I tried to find a preference panel. I know that for the ios you have to link/setup your device. I tried the find my iphone web site to see if my computer was listed there and it isn't at the moment. Is this new lion feature only available later with icloud? I checked the lion feature page and it lists it with file vault 2 with no asterisk so my guess is it should already now work.
It would be a pity to think you've setup your computer to find out that you hadn't "activated" your computer/laptop

    Hi,
I'm out of the country on business but probably the only way to figure this out is to call apple or drop by their retail stores. If no one figures this out (and I'm pretty sure there is nothing to figure out at this time). I'll try to call apple when I'm back in august.
I find it wrong that apple touts this as a feature with no disclaimer. I'm a loyal mac fan for twenty years so I'll continue to buy their prodcuts and I did buy lion the day it came out. BUT a disclaimer (as they have done in the past) would have been nice. I know of at least two mac users who usually don't buy new OS's until they get it with their new laptops that specifically bought lion for this feature since they had read about it in a newspaper article.
I also thought this was one of the more useful features in lion since my family already "lost" an iPad and we liked to delete our data after our alarm and message didn't work for a day.
I'm sure  apple has it's reasons for not offering the feature just yet but in that case a disclaimer is a must. I would probably drop the reference remote wipe until I have the infrastructure in place.
    Cheers,
    Phillyman

  • My ex has my iPhone 4. I loaned it to her, now she's keeping it and has her pass code on the lock screen. I froze the acct with Bell, but want to remote wipe the phone. Not sure if she has iCloud on but she might have Find My IPhone on. Advice to wipe?

Help... My ex has my iPhone 4 that I lent her. I kept the phone on my Cell phone service provider because of her bad credit. She turned out to be quite the lunatic, and it took the police to get her out of my home. What a nightmare. She still has my phone with her own pass code on the lock screen. I froze the service provider acct, so she can't call with it or use data unless she gets her own account. However she can still access many of my contacts I left on there. She also gets apps that I download onto my iPhone 5. She can't download apps herself because she has no apple account. Mine is still on there. She doesn't know my password. She does still get copies of my apps though. I tried to stop that when we were still together in a relationship but didn't succeed. Do I need to creat a new apple account, or just change the account name to stop her from getting the apps? Can I remote wipe the phone if the iCloud functions are set to off on that phone, but maybe the Find My IPhone is still turned on? She has mental disorders and a mean streak. Does anyone have advice or ideas???

Apparently "find my iPhone" won't work unless I restart her cell service, which I can easily do. I think she might  need her phone powered on too for me to trace it and wipe it. She forgot her charger here and has no service on it, so won't have it on much. Maybe I can change my Apple ID altogether? As long as the new Apple ID doesn't somehow automatically go to her phone.
