Sending jpgs to AOL customers

I can't count the number of times I send simple jpg files to AOL customers and they write back saying they can;t open the file because AOL converted the file to a MiMe file and now the receipient needs Winzip decoder to convert the file back to a jpg. Many people don't want to or don't know how to get the decoder or use it.
Is there something I can do on my end to send jpgs to AOL customers besides tell them AOL *****?

Email at AOL is an odd beast and very archaic. The MIME encoding turns 8 bit files to 7 bit gibberish. Your image is basically turned into text by AOL mail and then "decoded" (expanded) when viewed.
If using OS X Mail app you can try "Windows friendly attachments" and it may work at AOL.
I would suggest "Archiving" prior to sending the image:
From iPhoto "export" to the Desktop
Highlight the file in Finder and then Archive (File menu)
This will make your file blah.jpg.zip
attach that to your email and send to AOL as a test.

  • Sending jpg attachments to AOL subscribers

    HI all!
I'm consistently unable to send jpg pictures as attachments to friends with @aol.com email addresses. They tell me that the picture numbers come through but no picture. When I send the attachments (and verify in the "sent" box), the picture are definitely attached to the email. Friends not with AOL get things no problem.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks

Hi Allan, I hope toy don't mind me cc'ing a post I put up earliet - but saw this and could see that the problem is related: "This problem is going to really mess up my recent migration to Macintosh. I prepare a lot of documents in Word and Excel and am careful to append them with .doc and .xls before emailing them to clients and colleagues - all of who are Windows users. One colleague - a senior who calls the shots uses an AOL account and email. I have never had a problem sending .doc and .xls attachments to him but he is now saying that the .doc's and some of the .xls's are arriving as un-open-able .bin files. This is a real bugger. I have tried the 'send Windows friendly attachment' button in iMail but it makes no difference. I have looked at other posts which point the problem back to AOL - but Windows users do not have the problem. Is there a viable solution to this problem because my colleague absolutely will not ditch AOL".
I send email from iMail using plain text. The AOL recipient says he is now able to open .pdf (but the filename gets changed in transit) and .xls (no probs). He can open .doc by using the 'open with' command. The file name is shortened and the suffix is removed. Any suggestions gratefully received.

  • How to send JPG images in MAIL?

I'm having a problem in sending JPG files in MAIL. Nobody can open de files i send. Need Help.
    Tanks.

Makes sure extensions are fully apparent, checks the form of preview that may have been created on the Mac for its use. Two support documents are linked below, and the one for earlier version of Mail is still useful:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/4.0/en/9965.html
    and
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/3.0/en/9965.html
If you were sending to someone using a really old version Mac OS, it might be a hinderance, btw.
The issues that can arise from use of Rich Text Format are separate issues, and relate to MS and AOL not processing RTF from other systems.

Hi. I use Adobe Acrobat XI pro to make a PDF ebook embedded with audio. It works really well on my computer-I can read the book and hear the auto play mp3. The problem is, when I send it to my customers, they have difficulty hearing the audio. A few of them say they have Flash player on their PC and somehow they still can't hear, some say their Google Chrome browser tells them they've already got one flash player while they try to download one. For me, I had to download two versions of Flash player to be able to access to the audio. I don't know what the problem is, is it because it's the latest version of Adobe Acrobat XI pro that people with older version of Adobe reader or flash player can't open it properly? Or is it something else? How can I make sure every customer with different system can access to my books? Hope to hear from you ASAP! Thank you very much.

And how are the customers accessing the PDFs?
    What devices are they using?
What program or apps with versions are they using?
I this age of other then PDF eBooks formats and reader program and apss for computers and mobile devices for these formats I would look at creating the books in one or more of the eBook formats.
Google Chrome and FireFox both have their own version of a PDF reader plug-in and they are well known to be less capable than Adobe Reader. It is possible to configure these products to use Adobe Reader.

  • Mail not sending jpg/pdf files

You've probably all heard about this problem but does anyone have a fix?
When i send jpg or pdf files to windows computers they don't show up at the other end.
This problem is intermittent. If i'm sending mutliple files it sometimes send one but not others.
Clicking 'windows friendly attachments' does not work. It's already ticked.
    I'm using a Macbook pro 10.5.4 with Mail Version 3.3 (926.1/926)
Can anyone give me a definative anwser? Searching the wbe and these forums just throws up more unknowns!

Zipping files takes very little time, since it's built-in to OS X and available as a Contextual Menu item. Aside from that, your files are being received, even if your recipients don't know it. There is something about their mail client that blocks them from seeing them, but if they were to display the full headers of your email, all the images should indeed be there.
Entourage is no panacea, either; the same thing could happen with that program and your recipients. The only way to ensure that files are received as visible attachments is to archive them all and send that archive file.

  • BT is sending all* of their customers through a sp...

    Hello,
BT is sending all* of their customers through a specific proxy for specific domain(s).
When they go to a specific website of mine, they are proxied to it via the IP 194.72.9.24, which is located in London, regardless of where they are located in the UK (even if they are up North). The issue is specific to only one of my domains; if they connect to another website of mine, their genuine IP shows like normal, and their are no issues. It honestly is quite baffling.
This is specifically problematic for me because I run a ranking website for websites who want promotion, and they are ranked based on how many votes they receive. I rely on IP addresses to validate if a user has voted or not. These websites send their users to my website to vote if it appears that their IP has not voted that day, and then they are sent back to their website after they have voted and their IP is logged.
Generally this works all fine and dandy, and there are no issues because people can generally be associated with their (genuine) IP for a day, and there are no worries. But when the website asking if a user has voted is sending their genuine IP to check if they voted, and it comes up as no and they are sent to my website and I check their IP has voted it shows up as a different IP, you can see why this is extremely problematic.
I'm not really sure what to do, as this is a major issue, and I can't imagine how this could ever be considered a good idea in the first place. You're literally giving every single user connecting via BT the same identity, which could be extremely problematic even if a specific user were to do something bad, as there's no way to truly know who did it, and everyone with that address would be deemed as harmful subsequently.
In case you are inquiring as to what domain of mine is being affected, it is "retroslist.com"; it shows the same IP (194.72.9.24) for any BT customer connected, as mentioned above. All of other websites that I run do not have this issue.
    * While I can't confirm that it's every single BT customer, every one that I have spoken to is proxied through this IP in London when connecting to my specific website.

Your actual IP address will be whatever POP site you are connected to, it can be anywhere in the UK, and has been known to even come from the USA, as BT are global.
That is assuming your website runs on the BT network?
I would not rely on BT updating the Ripe database as to the IP usage. If you want to check if you are on CG-NAT, the bit at the start of this page will give you a clue.Port forwarding problems - just as an indication.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

Can't send emails from macbook air on aol account

IF you mean you can't send messages from aol.com, you must not be signed in.  If you mean from an aol mail account use "MacMail" (the icon on the lower dock), you must not have it configured correctly.  I have no trouble sending aol mail from either mail source.

  • OSX Mail - Sending JPG Attachments

I am having issues sending emails with JPGs attached. For some reason, they are being attached in-line and people are unable to download the attachments. Why is this?

The easiest to send jpg are to drag the image to the destop, then attach the iimage to a PDF, via Adobe, or pages. Select print, then select the image, and choose.
Most people use Adobe, and check windows friendly attachmennts.

  • Can't send Mail with AOL address-out of ideas

    hello,
I can recieve mail just fine. It's only when I try to send it. I've tried changing the outgoing server to smtp.aol.com and 4.78.166.10.
changed the ports from 25 to 587 to 1024.
I appreciate your help. thanks in advance.

    powermac g4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

My girlfriend and I are RoadRunner customers and RR allows using an SMTP server outside of their network as long as the SMTP server is authenticated.
I set up my girlfriend's AOL account in Tiger Mail (and the only email account she uses) on my old TiBook that I loaned her until she purchases her own Mac and she sends mail with her AOL account with no problems.
The AOL SMTP server settings are as follows:
    Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.aol.com
    Server Port: 587
Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Off or not selected.
    Authentication Type: Password
User Name: Your AOL screen name or the portion of your AOL email address in front of the @ sign only.
Password: The password for this screen name/email account - the same used for checking the account for new mail.
If your settings are the same, try deleting and recreating the account in Mail.
If this doesn't work and it should since it works for my girlfriend, you can select/use the RR SMTP server to send mail with your AOL account which is invisible to all recipients.

  • Cannot Send mail from AOL account through Entourage

I have an AOL e-mail account and use the Entourage application to send and recieve e-mail. As of lately I can only receive mail, but can no longer send mail. I keep getting the error in Entourage "Connection to the server failed or was dropped". I have read every help article out there on this subject and have tried just about everything. Here is how I have Entourage currently set up:
    IMAP server: imap.aol.com
    SMTP server: smtp.aol.com
*I am using port 587 for the outgoing server and have authenticated it using my account ID and password.
If anyone else is having this problem or knows how to fix it please help!

it may be that your server (internet provider) has just started blocking outgoing mails not authenticated by them.
Go to your account set up...
and fill in the following details.
    SMTP SERVER: smtp.mac.com
then click on advanced sending otions...
click on override default SMTP port... type 587
click on SMTP servber requires authentication...
use same setting as receiving mail server.
    try this...

  • Cannot send email from AOL account on iPhone

Went through this back in January  after the operating sustem upgrade and Tiger's fix solved the problem, but is on longer working.  I've also tried entering the information manually rather than through the AOL button on the add accounts page.  Help!

razmee209 (and others in this community)... HELP!
I have the same issue - I can receive email on my iPhone, but cannot send messages.   Keep getting error message:  (Cannot Send Mail - The user name or password for "SMTP:[email protected]" is incorrect
This issue occurred when I changed my AOL password.   I also updated my password on my iPhone.   After exploring this issue more deeply, it appears that my iPhone did not update my password for outgoing mail (as that are more "dots" in the password field for my outgoing server account, than for the incoming server passward that was just updated.
I am unable to change ANY of the information or settings in any of the outgoing mail server accounts - except only to toggle each account ON or OFF.   All other information is "greyed" out, and unavailable and inaccessible.
I know that if I could just change (or somehow sync) the outgoing password to match the new incoming password.
    PLEASE HELP!!

  • Cannot send Emails from AOL (Mail App) Only Recieve

For some time now i cannot seem to send emails from my AOL on the app (Mac Mail). I can receive ok, but not send. It remains in my outbox then a message appears:

This operation couldn't be completed (MCMaiErrorDomain error 1030)

I have tried all the trouble shooting regarding checking the passwords, changing the passwords. Uninstalled and reinstalled. I can log on via the web ok and send and receive  . I believe it happened when i updated the computer some time back because my Macbook does the same now as well as this iMac.
In the Outgoing Mail Server SMTP it reads: AOL (Offline)
In the drop down i goto edit server and this is what is showing:
Description    Server Name     In Use By Account

  • Cannot send email via AOL on iPad2 - "A copy has been placed in your Outbox. Sending the message content to the server failed."

My CEO has an ipad2 and I set it up w/ AOL.  She cannot send any email via her AOL account from her iPad.  She gets a message that says "A copy has been placed in your Outbox. Sending the message content to the server failed."   We've tried it on wifi and on 3G (Verizon version).  I've removed the account and added it, I've tried setting it up as an IMAP account vs. using Apples standard AOL mail setting and nothing seems to work.  The SMTP settings are smtp.aol.com, port 587.  I've tried adding an alternate server/smtp, but I haven't been able to find anything that works.  Any advice or other people having this issue?  It works fine sending an email from her aol web mail.  And unfortunately, having her sign up for a gmail account is not an option.  Thanks

Interesting.  Firstly I have been on AOL since the early 90s with no current intention to switch as my primary personal email account.
I have two email accounts on my iphone - AOL and my email from my business website.  I deleted both and then recreated first the business account and then the AOL account.  Same error.  Then I wasn't sure what you suggested but I turned off the AOL SMTP server and selected the business email SMTP server by turning it on with the same result.  I still get the error "A Copy has been placed in your Outbox.  Sending the mssage content to the server failed."
Perhaps this problem will get fixed by IOS 6.   AOL will not talk to me unless I pay and Apple says its not their problem.  So for the time being I use the AOL web interface in the iPhone's Safari to send emails from the phone.

  • Sending jpg to iPhone via mms not working

I'm trying to send a jpg from my email to an iPhone via mms, i'm using the correct format [email protected] but the iPhone gets an error that reads:
The part image/jpg: name=name.jpg; x-unit-mode=0644; x-mac-hide-extension=yes was removed form the message as not supported.
    Any ideas?

I dont buy that answer, i can send pics to my friend that has a normal flip phone that way. I also send .3gp movie files to my iphone 3G as a work around of not being able to attach/select video file to send via mms. You can however, forward a video clip that was sent to you. Are youy sure its not a formating of the jpg files or something, im fairly certain i have sent my own phone pics from my e-mail.
