Sequence imaging with FCPX

Hello, I was just woundering how you do the sequence imaging effect in final cut pro, or if it can be done in it. By sequence imaging, i mean where lets say you have a video of a snowboarder hitting a jump, and then he leaves of a trail of other pictures of himself doing the same jump. Here is a link with a video using still image sequence effect which is at 1:30 in the video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naZ60vXJVWI
Thanks to whoever can help me out! Can this be done in final cut pro? if so how? if not, what editing software can that works with final cut pro, and how do you do it in that? thanks!

This is the effect seen at around  1m 24s  and 1m 31s

  • I want to create an image gallery with forward back nav, master image with a click to pop out zoom

    Hi Musers,
    I'm currently building a photography website and need some help building a specific type of gallery.
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    Below is a description of the gallery I want to build:
    On the gallery page the gallery appears as a single 'Master Image' with forward and back 'Navs.' and a 'Counter' underneath this single 'Master Image'. Lets say that there are 10 images in this gallery. When the viewer clicks on the forward 'Nav.' the 'Master Image' changes to the next image in the sequence of 10 and the 'Counter' below confirms this progression, in this example the 'Counter' changes from 1 of 10 to read 2 of 10, the 'Master Image' displayed is the second image in the sequence.
    Simple so far.. This above I can do as this is just a basic gallery. What follows is what I cannot find a solution for.
    I want the gallery viewer to be able to click on the 'Master Image' and launch an enlargement of that image overlaying the gallery page, very much like the way the 'Lightbox' widget displays an enlarged image. When the viewer clicks off the 'Ligtbox' or enlarged image it dissapears, reverting the page view back to the standard gallery view with 'Master Image', 'Navs.' and 'Counter'. I do not want the expanded / Enlarged 'Lightbox' image accompanied by a thumbnail gallery, 'Navs.' / Navigation arrows or a 'Counter'. What I want is to be able to launch an enlarged version of the 'Master Image' as an overlay on the gallery page, something like a pop out.
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    Can anyone explain how I can do this? Is it possible?
    The solution I want seems to be a highbrid between the standard gallery with navigation arrows kept but minus thumbnails and captions with some of the functionality of the lightbox gallery widget.
    I very much appreciate any help anyone can give.
    Thank you

    Hi Harriet,
    Thanks for the message. I'm sure as time goes on new features will be introduced but it's a bit of a shame that the widget library is a little basic, oh, and at times it's just that little bit buggy. So far I'm really impressed by Muse despite being ever so slightly disappointed by some of it's limitations. I'd like to see more image gallery options, the ability to set up a client login area or a client ftp within a site, I also tried embedding video but as I'm no programmer the result looked clumsy so some focus on this would be a help. Considering that a good number of people benefiting from a Muse site will be online retailers a zoom function should have been there from the start.
    Best regards

  • Images with Transparency

    I am wondering if anyone can tell me the best way to supply a designer with an image for Final Cut that will hold its transparent background when imported? The designer claims that the psd, tiff and jpg with alpha channels that I sent over will only import with a white background. How can we prevent the white background from happening?

    Welcome to the family.
    JPG doesn't support alpha so, umm, don't use that one.
    Test it before it leaves your shop. This simple operation saves lots of hassles with uptight Photoshop folks who have absolutely no clue what video is all about. Wait till she asks you for more dpi.
    There's no secret to exporting a still image with an alpha channel but there must be actual transparency and there must be no underlying layer in your sequence. What filter are you using to generate the key or matte? Is it rendered?
    From the information you have provided in your post, there's no way for us to know if your sequence is set up properly or that the element you are trying to export even has an alpha channel.

  • Alternative ways to use NAS with FCPX

    So here is my dilemma, I would like to use my NAS to have an "archived" library of all my video files that I've worked on in FCPX. Thing is I've tried opening the library file directly from my NAS, but FCPX will not recognize it.  It give me an error something that I have to use "SAN"...  I've read some other threads where you can create sparse images but I don't want to have a set size as my "archived" library as it keeps growing.  So I guess my question is, are there any alternative ways to utilize my NAS with FCPX. I want to be able to easily access these "archived" files every so often. TIA!

    Youn can't use it in FCP, only with Compressor. In Compressor make a new QuickTime preset or duplicate an Apple preset and change the codec to x264.

  • Image - with a WriteOn effect

    I'm trying to make a image draw on my canvas. I've got an image with tribal band styled lines that are really intricate and I'm trying to make them write on over the duration of my motion clip. I'd rather not copy the entire image with lines and use the write on behavior to make it work because it will take hours. Is there an easier way to do this. My source image is photoshop and the lines are one of the brushes I've got in photoshop.
    Any Ideas?

    I mean... you could, depending on the shape, animate some crazy shapes that you're using as a mask. But yeah... if it's intricate, the best way will be to make lines out of it...
    Maybe you could use the replicator with the sequence replicator in some fun way to do this, but you'd still have to trace the lines for that by hand.
    There isn't a quick and easy filter to drop on to make it do what you want.

  • Creating Windows 8.1 master image with MDT 2013,cannot capture .WIM

    I am having an issue with creating a master image with Windows 8.1 and MDT 2013.
    I have followed extensive tutorials on how to create a master image using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit. my goal is to have a fully configured windows 8.1 image which I can deploy through Windows Deployment Services. I have been relatively successful thus far,
    except for one issue I have run into, which is successfully capturing this image as a .WIM.
    I have successfully created a task sequence and the task sequence is able to run all the way through until the final step. Essentially the task sequence is supposed to install Windows and Office, then suspend the task sequence to allow me to make customisations
    to the start screen and desktop background, and I simply click resume task sequence, and the task sequence should sysprep reboot and capture the machine image as a .WIM file.
    the task sequence is able to sysprep the machine, but upon rebooting it boots into out of box experience, and does not create a wim file. I receive an error saying: "cannot find script file C:\ltibootstrap.Vbs" after the machine completes OOBE
    I am using Windows Server 2012 r2, creating my Master machine image using hyper-v, and my master image is running Windows 8.1.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I'm not sure about the sequence of steps here. Try taking your captured.wim file and deploying it using MDT again, or at least to another machine. MDT sometimes leaves extra files around on the captured machine, so simply rebooting it may not get a accurate
    test results.
    IF you are getting the ltibootstrap.vbs it is most likely because there is a stray unattend.xml file somewhere in your image that is looking for this file. Crack open your Wim file and search for any unattend.xml files.

  • Project File Saving with FCPX

    Former FCP7 user who last year switched over to Adobe Premiere Pro CC and considering coming back to Final Cut via FCPX.
    MY PROJECTS: 100% AVCHD 24 to 35 mbps, from Canon DSLR's, Canon Camcorders, and GoPro Hero 4 Silver.  Most videos are multicam of 3 or 4 cameras, sometimes up to 6 or 8 (although infrequent) with Audio captured on all cameras via on camera audio except camera 1 and/or camera 2 which will have XLR direct wired or wireless fed.  All raw/project work will be on an external Thunderbolt Duo Raid Drive.
    Q 1:  Am I best to use a new generate MacPro 3.7 GHz with at least 16 Gb ram and dual FoxPro Vid cards with 2Gb vmem each OR will a iMac of similar speed processor i7 with same memory limit work?
    Q 2:  With Adobe Pr I was able to put all of a video project into one file folder, can I do the same with FCPX?  That is, a single folder entitled PROJECT 1 with the following files in it:
         -  Project file
         -  Folder containing all the captured or raw footage (file based)
         -  Folder with images
         -  Render files
         -  Any other files for that project
    This idea being that once the project is created with all the scratch and other raw files into a single folder, the project could be off loaded onto portable drive and sent to another editor who in turn would copy the entire folder onto their Project Raid Drive, edit then off load to that same original portable drive, and then sent back to the original editor and/or another editor to follow the same process and continue the edit and/or wrap the project up and output into a NEW FOLDER within the same original folder.
    Q 3:  What would be suggested for DVD Authoring with menus and the like to produce near Hollywood style looking DVD functionality?  I have Toast Titanium and now defunct (EOL) DVD Studio Pro and DVD Creator.
    Thank you in advance to those who respond and help in this matter.  My special priced CC subscription is running out in January and want to make a decision before then or will renew (although I don't really care for Adobe Pr CC.

    FCP X with a recent iMac can do everything you want except the "Hollywood style“… DVD functionality. DVD's look good but menus and other authoring are very spartan. I'd suggest Encore remains your best bet.
    In FCP X. rather than a folder with your project and assets, you would have a library with managed media (copy all your imports to the library).
    Multicam projects are a strong suit.
    Good luck

  • Deploy Images with SCCM Client Installed

    Hi everyone.
    there's one thing I have in mind for a while and haven't got a solution for it
    We use SCCM 2012 to build and create our master image with a Task Sequence
    one task before the syspreping is  "prepare configuration manager client", which from my understanding and from technet - resets all the client's unique configuration.
    conclusion - the SCCM Client is installed and "Syspreped" on our base image
    in that case, assuming we still use the same SCCM client version, is there a way to save time during the Deploy task sequence?
    the "Setup windows and ConfigMgr" step is required and it installs the SCCM Client all over again, even though it is already included in our master image.
    thanks
    Tamir Levy

    First, as noted by Daniel, the Setup Windows and ConfigMgr task does much more than simply installing the ConfigMgr agent. This is clearly indicated by the name of the task (before the "and") "Setup Windows".
    The are no true advantages to having the client agent in the image. If you are building your image with ConfigMgr though, it is unavoidable. Yes having it in the image should save time by not having to reinstall the pre-reqs -- most are pretty trivial though
    but you may gain a bit although I can't say I've ever timed it.
    There is no time savings to be had here, the client agent must be either installed or re-installed during the deployment TS, this is unavoidable. You'll need to look elsewhere if this is a required goal.

  • Trying to matte a background image with a PNG with transparency / partial transparency

    Hello everyone.
    Here is the scenario;
    I have a PNG sequence rendered from a 3d program. The sequence includes a landscape that is partially transparent and has no background image or color. In the animation, anything that is not the landscape is 100% transparent, while the landscape is partially transparent.
    I have a background that I want to put behind the PNG sequence but I don't want the background to be visible through the landscape portion of the sequence, only the portion that is 100% transparent.
    I have tried several different methods, but because the landscape is partially transparent, using a track matte (alpha or alpha inverted) or blend mode (like stencil alpha) does not give me the results I am looking for.
    What I am looking for is a way to matte (or mask) the background image with only the portion of the PNG that is 100% transparent. That way, the background image will not show through the semi-transparent landscape, but will be visible in the portion that is 100% transparent.
    I would like to find a reasonable solution in After Effects as opposed to re-rendering the 3d sequence with the objects being unseen by the camera and the background present. The landscape scene itself took a considerable amount of time to render (120+ hours) and I would like to avoid that kind of delay in my project.
    I thank you all in advance for your consideration.

    The footage itself is fine, Dave. The 3d application is rendering exactly what it is supposed to render; a semi-transparent landscape on a transparent background, rendered out to 32 bit PNGs.
    When I view the frames in Photoshop, they are exactly what I wanted. In the final composition, there are other image elements and pre-rendered objects provided by the client that need to be visible beneath the "ground" and "water", which is why I rendered the landscape as semi-transparent. Normally, I would render with a color background for compositing, but using a color background in this case was tinting the semi-transparent landscape.
    I think my track mattes are failing because the images are made up of varying degrees of alpha.
    Going back to the 3d application, the only option there would be to re-render a pure alpha pass of the animation. I can test the render time per frame, but I was hoping that there would be an easier solution... the initial landscape animation took 70+ hours to render, using 32 cores and 24 gb of RAM. The pure alpha render shouldn't take anywhere near that long, BUT, if it did, that would not be feasible on my current schedule.
    I did find another possible solution by creating a recorded script to batch convert luma images from the PNGs. If the alpha pass proves unworkable, I can always fall back to batching the luma images and using stencil luma.
    Thanks for helping me further think this out!

  • Multiple Images with a Loader

    I am trying to load and display multiples images with a Loader, one after another. The program only displays the last image to be loaded and added to the stage. What is wrong? Here is my code..
    ---START OF CODE---------------------------------------
    import flash.events.MouseEvent; //Package needed for mouse events
    btnGenerate.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, buttonPressed); //Button click listener
    chkSeal.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, chkTriggered); //Check box click listener
    //If the check box is toggled, switch to 8 or 9 max characters
    function chkTriggered(event:MouseEvent):void
         if (chkSeal.selected == false)
              txtInput.maxChars = 8;
         else
         txtInput.maxChars = 9;
    function buttonPressed(event:MouseEvent):void
         var pictureLoader:Loader = new Loader(); //Picture loading variable
         var plateText:String = txtInput.text; //Plate text string
         var filename:String; //Filename for each character's associated picture
         var currentX:int = 10; //Current x position
         var i:int; //Counter to use in for loop
         plateText = plateText.toUpperCase(); //Convert plate text to upper case
         //For every character in the sequence
         for(i = 0 ; i < txtInput.length ; i++)
              filename = "/Numbers and Letters/" + plateText.charAt(i) + ".png"; //Generate filename
              pictureLoader.load(new URLRequest(filename)); //Load the picture
              addChild(pictureLoader); //Add picture to the stage
              pictureLoader.x = currentX; //Move picture into position
              pictureLoader.y = 366; //Constant y position for all images
              currentX = currentX + 52; //Increase the current x (by the size of the images)
         txtInput.text = "Done!"; //Display done in the text box
    -------------END OF CODE----------------------------

    You appear to only have one Loader instance working for you.  A Loader can only hold one load at a time.  Try creating new Loaders within the loop.

  • DHTML List (Image) with Sublist and authorization problems

    Dear all -
    I wonder if anyone can help with this DHTML drop-down menu query:
    We use hierarchical menus implemented as DHTML Lists (Image) with Sublists. When some of the items are hidden through authorization, the wrong headers appear for the menus.
    For example:
    Menu
      Item 1
        Subitem 1 of Item 1
        Subitem 2 of Item 1
      Item 2
        Subitem 1 of Item 2
        Subitem 2 of Item 2
    Say Item 1 and its subitems are all hidden through authorization controls. The heading for Item 2 then appears as 'Subitem 2 of Item 1' instead of 'Menu'.
    There's an example here:
    http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=11837:1
    Anyone know why this is happening?
    Thanks for your time.
    John.
    PS. Any idea where my previous post on this subject has disappeared to?

    Carl - in the example on htmldb.oracle.com, in Menu2 I'm hiding all the elements in Category 1 (parent and children), although not the 'grandparent' (Menu2).
    I'm therefore still expecting the menu title to be 'Menu2', because that's Category 2's parent.
    It doesn't appear to be an issue with the sequence of the items, because I've changed all those about and still got the same problem.
    To be more specific, again using the htmldb.oracle.com example, in Menu2 we have:
    Menu2
      Category 1 (Hidden)
        Item 1 of Category 1 (Hidden)
        Item 2 of Category 1 (Hidden)
        Item 3 of Category 1 (Hidden)
        Item 4 of Category 1 (Hidden)
      Category 2
        Item 1 of Category 2
        Item 2 of Category 2
    And Scott - thanks for picking up the previous post - for some reason I couldn't for the life of me find that yesterday (in fact I still can't find it when I search).
    Thanks for looking into this.
    Regards,
    John.

  • Capture image with .wim and unattend.xml?

    Hi,
    We captured an image with the default wim of windows 7 + an unattend.xml. Now it seems this unattend.xml was not correctly applied (media center was removed but is still there, some components were installed
    but are not etc). Question: when capturing an image, you CAN use a default .wim right? Or should you use “apply operating system from original installation source” to have it applied correctly?
    Our problem is that our original task sequence had to many Windows updates and crashed. That’s why we are using offline updates which we include in the capture task sequence.
    If we would need to use the "apply operating system from original ..." then we'd need to:
    1.capture without updates
    2.import this wim into sccm
    3.offline update this wim
    4.use this for capture WITH updates
    Please advise. J.
    Jan Hoedt

    Have you tried making a package of your unattended.xml and pointing to it in your Apply Operating system step?
    If I remember correctly SCCM will make it's own unattended.xml even if one exists in the wim file, using the package of the unattended.xml that you have already created will make it use that one. Looks something like this in the task sequence with the highlighted
    yellow parts filled out by your package of the unattended.xml:

  • Finished my first "big" project with FCPX

    Now I am not a big time editor.  If anything I am FCPX new "target audience".  This was about  3 hours of footage hacked up in to (40) 2-5 minute projects with output to YouTube.  My results.
    Pros
    When things were working they worked well.  Being I was semi forced to do a little better keywording, favoriting, and marking (since I can not put the old in and out point on my clips) I found, in the long run, it was easier to hunt down and find things.
    Getting used to the magntic time line was not as bad as I envisioned.  Use of compound clips and gaps makes your life a bit easier
    Some of the simple tools worked well.  I made good use of the "loudness" enhancement (Improves the main audio signal and makes it more uniform).  the hum and "noise" not as much success.
    Cons
    Can I get my find white color dropper back?  The auto color works well only sometimes.  Luckily I had a lot of good lighting.  Color correction while better in a way with the color panel I would still like to start with what I think white is.
    I do not know if it is a memory leak or just too many things open inside Final Cut but you will burn every drop of memory on your system (I have 16 GB) and then you will start swapping like crazy.  When I started seeing a lot of beachballs I would shut FC down and go back to work for a few hours till it happened again.  There were times it would type a title like I was on a 300 baud modem.
    I lost at least 6 projects.  I did not have a crash or anything.  I would just exit at night and come back in the A.M. (or after a forced stop/start because of memory issues) and they would be gone.  Not totally gone.  My original "master skeleton project" would be there.  FYI:  The way I created my project was to have a Motion Project that was exported out into a QT movie then I added some music and a gap. Created a compound clip. That was my title bumper.  Next a Gap with a generic title on it with the style and font I wanted over the gap.  Then an image with some flying text around it for the exit bumper.  I used this as the "master project" and would duplicate it, change its name, drag in and replace the gap with the appropriate clips.  Alter and reposition the title. Done. So, for the love of God!  Fix autosave or let me click a [SAVE NOW] button.
    If there is background processing going on you can't rename a Project.  Get your Project (re)naming done before your editing
    You can get ahead of the renders and shares.  If I had 2 or 3 shares going on in compressor and was 2 or 3 projects along with no renders on any of the projects you will get to a point where your system is so slow you will just get up and let it do whatever it needs to do.  Hey I understand that.  But pop a Window up or something like, "Time for coffee. I have rendering to do."
    Every Project shows it has changed after the export with that radar icon yet I have not changed a thing
    Sometimes I would set an out point for my range on a clip. It would keep playing yet the frame would be stuck on the out point
    All and all not horrible for .0 software but unacceptable for "Pro" software.  I will be going back to FCP7 for my next project where I know I will not lose work so easily.

    Daniel,
    Thanks for taking the time to provide a very insightful and detailed summary, but I have to disagree with you about one thing:
    >All and all not horrible for .0 software but unacceptable for "Pro" software
    Apple calls this version 10 and it so obviously isn't "Pro" by any stretch of the imagination.  Apple has duped every purchaser into being their alpha tester since this product isn't even ready for beta testing.  And to add insult to injury, they're charging $299.00 for the privilege of testing.

    … sounds perhaps a bit … too basic , but  - as an amateur like me, and using MCs almost any day - you should keep that in mind for your workflow.
    After creating a MC, which can be done in seconds!, you get a single clip in the Events browser - and you should treat it as any other clip:
    select parts of it, add it to your timeline, you can add it to secondary (for pic-in-pic for example), you can split it, shift it, nudge it, ...
    aaaand you can select a diff. perspective = camera (or mic…), without losing synch.
    I'm noticing, people spend way too much time in the multi-track timeline view of an MC, in hope, this gives them back those 'tracks' FCPX doesn't offer (for good reasons...)
