Set Device Control to None

Hi!
If I set Edit->Preferences->Device Control->None and then restart Premiere it once again is set to DV/HDV Device Control.
I need that it will be set to by default to None because I capture video in Premiere through Matrox (S-video) and if it is set to DV device control I got a message - "There are captured no frames"
Thanks!

http://www.matrox.com/video/en/support/
I think this is a bug of Premiere, not Matrox.
Why this preference can not be saved as None.
If you want to capture with Matrox you capture with Matrox tools and not with Premiere.
I know by myself how to capture
I think You don't know about what I am telling.
Any other opinion?

  • Device Control wont stay set to none

I am using Premiere CS4 with a Canopus ADVC-300 capture device.
I have used this for years and never had a problem with Premiere providing  I set Device Control to “none” both in the Preferences and the capture window.
My problem is I can’t get the Device Control in the Preferences box to stay set to “None” any longer. I can set it and then close the window and check back and it insists on going back to the “DV/HDV” setting.  I have changed it to none at least a dozen times and it keeps setting itself back to “DV/HDV”.
This crashes the capture every time.
Any ideas on how to get it to stay where I set it?
It stays set to “none” in the capture window but I can not make the preferences menu do the same.
I can reinstall the program but that is a last resort due to the time it takes.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Guys I appreciate your help but nothing is working.
I tried deleting the preferences file and the same thing happened again anyway.
I then uninstalled the whole Creative Suite and deleted all files associated with it and all entries in the Windows Registry related to it.
I then reinstalled everything ( spending the hours it took) and it is doing the same thing again. I can not think of anything that has changed on the machine at all and I have never had this happen before in the years I have been using Premiere.
Everything used to work fine and Captures would go without a hitch even if they took hours as long as the Preferences were set to “None” on Device Control. But now it just won’t stay set, even after reinstalling everything. The Capture Window Device Control will stay set to “none” but not Preferences regardless of what I do.
I tried changing other Preference Settings and they stay changed but not device control. And it is the same regardless of whether the ADVC-300 is on or off. I even tried deactivating the Firewire Port in the Bios just to see what would happen and it made no difference.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
My last option is to reformat my drive and reinstall everything from scratch but that will take me a day and a half.
I can not understand what is making it do this when it never did it before.
Here is what I am using:
Premiere Pro CS4 with a Canopus ADVC-300 Capture Box. It is installed via Firewire and goes to the Firewire  Port on the Motherboard.
I am using XP Home SP3 on a Core I7 Computer with an Asus motherboard.
If no one has any ideas do me one favor. Go into your own Preferences file and set Device Control to “None”, close the panel and open it again to see if it is still set to none.
It may help me feel a little better about reinstalling all my software and spending the day and a half doing it if I know it is something with my machine and not the program itself.

  • Setting FCP X to "Non-Controllable Device"

When importing video into Final Cut Pro X, is it possible to set Device Control to Non-Controllable Device, like you could with FCP 7?
We want to record video into FCP X, and are using a DV camera as a video capture device (through FireWire with the DV cam set to VTR/VCR mode). This works fine in iMovie, but since there is no timestamp, it we can't get it to work in Final Cut Express or FCP X. Our input is video collected from a small camera through a wireless transmitter box. We have been streaming the video from the transmitter, through the DV cam/firewire, to the computer so we can save it.
Do you have any suggestions for making this work? If we were to get an external video capture device like Elgato, would that "add" a timecode/function with FCP X?
    Thanks!
    Ally

    Hi Tom
I tried an experience using an old Samsung 8mm Video Camcorder with the video output through a Canopus ADVC 100. I then tried to capure the video in FCPX.  Well guess what? FCPX captured the video just fine. No video/audio drift. In the capture window on the upper right corner where the time code is displayed, the counter kept rolling even when I stopped the video import.  But the time counter in the top left did keep track of the time. The events browser did break the clips into imported sections. I assume this happened when the camera was stopped and started during the original recording.
When I have more time I'll have to put together a short video from this material to see how it edits.
I'm currently using the trial version of FCPX.  So far, I've completed a couple of short videos from my Sony HDV/DV tape camera, and FCPX uses the time codes from it just fine.  Looks like I'll be dumping FCE in favor of FCPX. Although my regret will be that the plug-ins I've bought can't be used anymore.

  • Device Control/Capture Problem

My computer set up is an HP xw9300 workstation running Windows XP. I shoot 720/60p HDV, sometimes with tape and sometimes with tape and hard drive. The cameras are JVC and the deck is the JVC BR-HD50. Although I had some difficulty getting Premiere from CS2 to recognize the deck for recording, it eventually did. No problems at all with Premiere in CS3. I recently upgraded to CS4...and haven't been able to capture anything since. In the dviice control, both under preferences and in the capture program, the settings that worked in CS2 and CS3 are JVC/Standard. Using the same settings with Premiere in CS4, device control will control the deck functions (forward/play/back), but it will not record and it will not stop the deck. I've tried all the JVC settings...none work. I've also tried to capture without device control...no soap. Anybody have any ideas as to what is going on here? Your help and suggestions are appreciated.

  • Unable to initialize capture device and device control in HDV

I shot with a Sony HVR-Z1U/Z1N and am using a Sony HDV 1080i tape deck to digitize.
I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and installed FCP Pro 5 on it. After getting over some time code issues we were chugging along, when on the 4th tape the image on the log and capture screen suddenly dissapeared (I could get audio and could see the image on the tape deck). Well after taking the tape out, checking and rechecking it I popped it back in and ever since then, I have been getting this error mssg "Unable to initialize capture device and device control."
I have tried deleting the preferences and starting from scratch. If I do that, and choose the easy setup with HDV- 1080i60, it gives me this error "Unable to locate the following external devices- HDV (1440 X 1080) 30fps.

It has been reported to take more than one attempt to correct the installation but, if properly executed on a machine without other system problems, the QT reinstall process does work. The key element here is you must reinstall QT after you trash the receipts. The process is listed below.

To do a full quicktime reinstall.
Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
    Run the Quicktime installer.
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
    Reboot
If this doesn't work, then the problem lies elsewhere:
    1. your system - user preferences, firewire ports or other system elements.
    2. your equipment - camera/deck/firewire cables.
    3. your process - not setting up the software properly or using the software erroneously.
Listed below is a troubleshooting process. Not all steps are appropriate but the general process of isolating the problem is useful.

I've seen one other post about this and I've tried the responses to it: trash prefs, rebuild permissions, reboot the computer (let it rest and uplug), trash quicktime receipts and reinstall, uninstall AJA software and reinstall.
The only thing I haven't tried is reinstalling my OS.
    I'm on FCP HD.
I can capture and print to tape as an uncontrollable device. But I need to edit to tape tomorrow using the RS-422 to my digibeta deck via the AJA IO. It has worked in the recent past (last month), but in the past two weeks I can't control my deck.
Also, I get the message "This computer does not have any serial ports required by this protocol" when I try to set up a new RS-422 AV device control setting.
    Help!

Jerry, I can't thank you enough. I still have a few hairs left on my head thanks to you.
I downgraded my AJA firmware and that did the trick.
I had been on the phone with AJA last week tryingto fix this problem and we had tried everything except that. You know, the trash quicktime receipts, trash prefs, hard re-boot, etc.
They were stumped and finally decided it was a Mac problem not an AJA problem. Ha! (Very nice folks though.)
Your's was an answer I didn't find anywhere else in all my searching of forums.
    Thanks again!

  • Device Control for HV-20 capturing DV?

In FCE, I'm using the "DV-NTSC Firewire Basic" Easy Setup to capture DV (not HDV) from a Canon HV-20. It works great using "Capture Now," but "Capture Clip" apparently is not available.
Can anyone confirm that full-fledged device control is not available in this configuration? (That is, I can't preview the tape and set In and Out points before capturing.)

My mistake, duh! The Capture window works just fine in this configuration. One must, however, click the "Play" button!

  • PPRO CS3 RS-422a device control?

    Hello everyone,
I'm attempting to capture within Premiere Pro CS3 from a Panasonic AJ-HD130DC DVCPRO HD deck.  The manual states that the deck is RS-422a compatible and we've been successfully capturing from this deck using machine control with our Velocity HD system for quite some time so I know it should work.
I've called adobe support, and after some time they simply told me to 'reinstall premiere'.  This seems ridiculous.
I'm on an HP xw8600 workstation using the single COM1 port on the motherboard directly connected to the Panasonic deck. I've gone through the 'device control' settings in premiere and set it as follows:
    Protocol - Panasonic RS-422
    Port - COM1
Time Source - LTC (only option)
    Time Base - 59.94/60fps
This configuration gets rid or the "Device Control Error: No Communications with VTR" warning, so I know it's doing something.  But it still doesn't control the deck.
I've looked into changing some of the settings on the COM1 port in Windows XP64 device manager, but I'm not sure of what it should be and left it default.
Any ideas, thoughts or experience with this would be greatly appreciated.  This is a rather popular broadcast DVCPRO HD deck and it seems that premiere MUST be capable of communicating with it... that's what the "PRO" stands for right?
         Thank you.

Since the computer's COM port is RS232, you'll need to convert that to RS422 as well as accommodate the connector genders at each end. The Addenda RS-2/3R cable does this in one neat package. See at www.addenda.com.

  • Internal Device Control request

I have a kmdf usb bus driver to connect usb virtual device. In this the device is configured/installed in the usual manner as below:
    1. Create a PDO for the child device  by supplying h/w id and other ids of the device
    2. The  usb stack(usgccgp.sys) then requests descriptors of the device using InternlaDeviceControl
    3. The bus driver supplies the requested descriptors in the transfer buffer supplied by usgccgp.sys  (eg:_URB_CONTROL_DESCRIPTOR_REQUEST)
    4. The usb system then sends tne next request.ie control or bulk transfer request via InternlaDeviceControl
It is seen that , step 4 takes some to arrive. ie.once a request is satified by the bus, the next internal device control takes a little long to arrive causing
noticebale delay. This delay was noted by using DbgPrint messages in DbgView.
In another situation I am forwarding a read request coming to the bus driver to a manual queue of the same device using WdfRequestForwardToIoQueue(). After this also, and internal device control is expected to arrive but it arrives quite late.
Why is this so? Is this delay expected? Any inputs from someone with similar experice would be of great help.

Thank you Doron. I haven't set synchronisation scope or execution level but I had mentioned the dispatch type of the queue of the child pdo of the bus driver as sequential. Changing it to parallel seems to solve the issue for the most part. As we know
the internal device control arrives at the pdo. I have set the dispatch type of the fdo(bus driver) as sequential itself. I hope now the request arriving at the child pdo will be delivered to the driver as soon as it arrives.

  • Query - Sampling speed in Device Control - Audigy Value

After installing the Hardware / Drivers etc for SB Audigy Value PCI card, Windows Control Panel shows one option named Device Control . Clicking on it opens a window wherein you can set the sampling speed for PCI/USB and SPDIF.
In case of PCI, I notice that the only two options 48 & 96 KHz are available. I would have expeted even 44. but it'ss not there..is this normal behavior of this control i.e. not to have 44. sampling option for PCI.

  • Each Airport device asking for non-existant password

My network consists of 2 AEBS and 2 AEs. There is no network password at the moment.
I just opened up Airport Utility to check a setting and when I double clicked on my main AEBS it asked for a password. I checked every device. They are all asking for a password which doesn't exist, before allowing me to even see the configurations. This happened before with an AE that I was trying to reset, the only way around it was to hook the AE to my mac with ethernet. I really don't want to have to do that every time I want to make a change to my network. Anyone know what's going on here? The same thing happens if I click on Manual Setup or Continue.

I live on a dirt road with very few neighbors. I would notice if someone parked on the road
in front of my house. Plus, why would anyone want to change the settings on my airport?
Also, the passwords it was asking for were not the passwords I had assigned to those airport devices and saved in my keychain. They were some kind of default factory setting passwords.
Anyway, none of my airport devices is asking me for a password now in order to see their configuration. And I have changed security over to WPA2.

  • 2 videos...1 set of controls

I'm sort of a new user to Flash and what I'm looking to do is
run 2 seperate videos at the same time with both videos being
controlled by one set of buttons. So for instance, when I hit the
play button it would start both videos playing at the same time and
then if I hit the stop button both videos would stop at the same
point. I figure that this could be done using ActionScript but
everything I've tried hasn't worked at all. Any ideas?

It's a small place, for sure.
Been over 20 years since I lived
there, but I do have fond memories.

    Sure thing.

If you want to play an external video file, you'll have to
    use the FLV
version. Flash imports quite a few different video file
    formats for
internal playback, but that means the weight of the SWF
    itself will be
affected by the embedded video. Personally, I prefer a tiny
    SWF that
progressively downloads an FLV ... quicker experience overall
    for the user.
Nothing wrong with the FLVPlayback Component, but keep a few
    things in
mind: a) this particular Component requires Flash Player 8,
    which may or
may not bother you; b) this Component stands on its own
    (which is the point
of Components, of course) -- that is, its buttons are already
    "wired up," so
while it *may* be possible to re-wire them for two different
    videos, my
hunch is that it's easier to develop your own buttons
    altogether.

Ehh, could be either. A lot depends on the size of your
    videos, too, as
well as framerate, bitrate, and so on. Generally speaking,
    the larger of
any facet, the harder your computer must work to display the
    video.
    > I'm mainly concerned with just figuring out how to get 2
    > videos going with one set of controls.
Here's a general, all purpose approach to Components and all
    objects in
Flash: just about everything in ActionScript can be referred
    to as an
object. Objects are defined by their namesake classes. For
    example, movie
clips are defined by the MovieClip class; dynamic and input
    text fields are
defined by the TextField class; FLVPlayback instances are
    defined by the
FLVPlayback class, and so on. This also applies to non-visual
    objects like
strings, dates, arrays -- the whole kaboodle.
Classes are essentially an Owner's Manual for the object in
    question.
Things the object can do are called methods; things the
    object reacts to are
called events; characteristics the object has are called
    properties. You'll
see one or more of these categories in practically every
    class entry.
See this article for additional information along these
    lines ...
    http://www.quip.net/blog/2006/flash/actionscript-20/ojects-building-blocks
... now, for better or worse, not all classes are organized
    the same way in
the documentation. FLVPlayback is one of those. The class
    entry for this
object is located in the Components Language Reference and
    doesn't list
methods, events, and properties on one convenient page.
Search the documentation on the phrase "Method summary for
    the
FLVPlayback class" and you'll find the methods page. Among
    these methods --
remember, these are things the object can *do* -- are
    FLVPlayback.play(),
    FLVPlayback.pause(), and more.
All you really need to do is drag two instance of the
    FLVPlayback
Component to the Stage, set the contentPath parameter of each
    instance to an
external FLV and give each instance an instance name via the
    Property
inspector. Once each has a unique name, you simple "call each
    by name," so
to speak, and tell it what to do.
You could create a button of your own -- just an ordinary
    button symbol
(which happens to be defined by the Button class) -- and wire
    up the button
to invoke the FLVPlayback.play() method of each instance ...
    myButton.onRelease = function() {
    myVideo1.play();
    myVideo2.play();
It's that simple. Of course, both of those FLVPlayback
    instances will
have their own play/pause buttons, which may get confusing.
    For this
reason, I would recommend you simply use a Video object as
    described in this
    article here ...
    http://www.quip.net/blog/2006/flash/how-to-load-external-video
Video objects (defined by the Video class) are fed by a
    combination of
NetConnetion and NetStream class instances. It's a bit more
    involved than
using the FLVPlayback class, but you'll see that it
    ultimately comes down to
naming your instance and invoking the relevant method (or
    event, or
    property) of the object.
I realize this may seem intimidating if you haven't done
    much
programming, but read through the above articles (not very
    long, apiece) and
see what you can accomplish. If you have additional
    questions, bring 'em
here and I'll be happy to continue helping you.

  • No communication with device control through AJA Io?

So this is weird (to me). I'm trying to capture a few Beta tapes and can't seem to get the device control going. For whatever reason I'm getting the "No Communication" message in my Log and Capture window. Of course, I'm getting the image in the window, but I can't control the deck through Log and Capture.
    My settings seem right:
    -Deck in remote mode
-FCP set to AJA Io device control
-Capture settings at AJA Io Betacam to DV (I know this isn't a problem because I can see the image)
-I have unplugged and reset each cable in each port on the deck, Io, and computer
The only thing I can think about is that the last footage I captured was from my MiniDV camera, so I must have tweaked some kind of a setting that I don't know about. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Stef

Device control: AJA Io RS-422 NTSC
The RS-422 cable is connected to both the deck and the AJA. The Firewire cable is connected to my 400 port and the AJA.
There has to be some kind of a problem with my 400 port, because I just daisy chained the AJA (which only uses a 400 cable) through my Lacie drive, which is connected to the laptop through the 800 port.
Is there an explanation for this? Hopefully besides, "Sounds like your 400 port chucks it, Stef. Time to go get a new one."

  • Device Control Capture from Beta SP Deck into a G-4, Using Firewire ???

    Hello,
I have been told by many people that it is possible to capture video with device control from a Beta SP deck, if you have the correct setup. But no one seems to be able to tell me exactly how using a G-4 Dual 1.25, or G-5 single processor computer. What I'm hoping to do is establish a serial interface that will allow for device control from a RS-422 circumstance. I'm hoping that I can do this, and still capture using DV- I don't want to have to resort to using a video capture card, for an assortment of reasons that I won't get into.
Question: Is there anyone out there converting video from a beta sp deck to firewire in FCP, using device control, and if so, what is your set up?
    Thanks!
