Setting Focus in Text Field of Dynamic Form

I have a form that has a dynamic section that allows a user to add or delete a request. It this form there is by default one request. At the end of the section I have a button that says "ADD ADDITIONAL REQUEST" that will load another instance of the repeatable section. I want to be able to fill out the first request and click on the ADD button and when the new repeatable section displays the cursor should be active in the first text field of the new instance. Does anyone have any idea how to do this? Thanks in advance for the help!

You can check to see if it contains a string once by using the contains function, but there isn't a very clean way to do what you want. If you wanted to guess at the maximum number of occurrences, then you could:
Box A has your initial. Set Box B to do a concat of string-before and string-after of Box A where it copies Box A minus the string we're looking for. Then we have Box C that does the same thing to Box B. Repeat as many times as you see necessary.
Example:
String: "1"
Box A - "123451234512345"
Box B - "23451234512345"
Box C - "2345234512345"
Box D - "234523452345"
etc.
We then have a field that has nested ifs looking backwards from Z -> A looking for a non-blank. Based on that, we return the number of occurrences. Again, this isn't clean, but it will work if you think there's a predefinable maximum.

Hi Gorge,
Please follow Jeyakanthan instructions. You may know how to create a UDF but you clealy don't understant how they work.
A UDF in the System document's Title table is always updatable, unless you define it otherwise or do not have permission to update it (Open the form where you created the UDFs and press CTRL + ALT + B to open the definitions form).
A UDF in the System document's Rows table is always updatable ONLY if that document's rows are updatable AND if you set them as updatable (via Form Settings) and have permission.
On a User Form, you make your own rules!

Making some words Bold/Underlined of an editable text field in Adobe Form?

I have a a requirement of making some words Bold/Underlined of an editable text field in Adobe Form. I have created a "Text Field" and in "Value" tab as default value I have written the textline and made the field Type as "User entered - optional" so that at runtime user can edit that text. Now they want some words of the whole text line should display as Bold and some as Underlined. Can you please help me to meet this requirement.

Just an idea, but you might try re-printing that original PDF file to the Adobe PDF printer (saving it as another pdf file, essentially). Then try again to add form fields. (You can copy the form fields you've already created and paste them onto the new file -- just copy and paste while in forms edit mode). A second shot in the dark if the first doesn't work might be to try again, but change the print settings when printing to PDF. I've ready some reports that the dpi setting can have an effect. Maybe go from 600 to 150 and see if that works. Let me know which, if either, of these ideas works.

How does APEX check for null values in Text Fields on the forms? This might sound trivial but I have a problem with a PL/SQL Validation that I have written.
I have one select list (P108_CLUSTER_ID) and one Text field (P108_PRIVATE_IP). I made P108_CLUSTER_ID to return null value when nothing is selected and assumed P108_PRIVATE_IP to return null value too when nothign is entered in the text field.
All that I need is to validate if P108_PRIVATE_IP is entered when a P108_CLUSTER_ID is selected. i.e it is mandatory to enter Private IP when a cluster is seelcted and following is my Pl/SQL code

My problem is it is returning FALSE for all the cases.It works fine in SQL Command though..When I tried to Debug and use Firebug, I found that Text fields are not stored a null by default but as empty strings "" . Now I tried modifying my PL/SQL to check Private_IP against an empty string. But doesn't help. Can someone please tell me how I need to proceed.

Is it mandatory to bind each & every CONTEXT element to a text field on the form?

I am developing an Adobe Interactive Form, i have Designer 8.1 and Reader 9.0 in my Windows 7 Laptop. When i checked the menu EDIT-->form properties --> Compatability, its Adobe XML form File (XDP)
I have 3 elements (say, 1_Name, 2_Street and 3_City) in the CONTEXT and drawn ONLY 2 input enabled TEXT fields (for items - Name and Street of conetext) and then, BINDED them.
I did not put any associate text field for CITY and no chance of binding!
Pls. let me know that, Now can i utilize this CITY (of context) element containign data in the Java script? is this CITY is VISIBLE in the java script, even though it did not get BINDED with any text field on the form?

If it got BINDED, i knew how to point/get/visible the CITY element (of CONTEXT) containming data by using the below java script,
(this.rawValue == "A") or i can also get it with script of VISITOR.Page3.Subform11.CITY.rawvalue = "A"
If i do NOT bind CITY to any TEXT FIELD of FORM, then, how i can retrieve/get/visible/point CITY content?

Setting a Text field in adobe form non editable

I have generated a Adobe form using webdynpro java. I have couple text fields. They are binded with some values which a RFC returns. When I see the output These text fiels values which are populated from backend are editable. Can anyone suggest me how to make these text fields non editable.

Hi Raj,
You have to set the properties of these text field as readonly.
For this you have to select the text field ... Go to the Object Pallete.
There you will see three Tabs Field, Value and Binding.
You have to click on Value Tab and there you have select the Type as Read Only.
If you do not have Object Pallet open .. go to Menu Bar Window and Click Object
This will solve your problem.

To make TEXT field in adobe forms dynamic

Hi Experts,
I have requirement in adobe forms where based on certain condition I want change the TEXT field accordingly.
Example if material number in of gas type than text will be "GAS MATERIAL" and then populating corresponding material number.
If itu2019s of hard goods type than text has be "HARD GOODS MATERIAL".
Please let me how this requirement can be achieved ASAP.

Hi,
Yes you can definitely make a field dynamic. Bind the text fields with varibale of type Material Number and its description which will have to create in the context (Interface) of the adobe forms. These values you can pass from your driver program or Web-Dynpro.

Validation of multiple empty fields in dynamic form

Hi,
I have created multiple fields dynamic form consisting of both mandatory & optional fields. Since the mandatory fields are validated by default, I want to validate the optional fields while submitting as PDF document dynamically and prompt me to continue or discard the submission. Also validating each & every field is not valid option as my form contains more than 200 fields.
I have tried with the below script which I successfully used to lock the form but in validating the empty fields I have a problem. Although I populate all the fields in the form, still I receive the validation message. Can anybody help me out on this issue?

I discovered how to accomplish this using the Manage Dynamic Form Wizard and changed the "Display as" field property from "Text field" to "Text" for the fields I wanted read only.
Now I have another problem, the properties of one of the fields (for comments) was "Text area" when I changed it to "Text" I now have this extremely long line that streches the width of the browser.
Is there a way to get this line to wrap? This is he line I'm working with...

Populating Text Field using Dynamic Actions is not working

I've a Select List (P14_ACCOUNT) and Text Field (P14_BILLING_ADDRESS_1) on a form. On selecting a value on the Select List, I've to populate the Text Fields by fetching its values from the database by using the Select List value as the primary key. To do this, I created a Dynamic Actions (Advanced) on the Select List, with event onchange and Set Value as SQL. However this is not working.
Below are the sqls of Select List and Dynamic Action respectively:
select ACCOUNT_NO || ' - ' || COMPANY_NAME display_value, ACCOUNT_ID return_value
from ACCOUNT

The session state for items, when SQL is used, is set using the Page Items to Submit parameter as has been set in your application.

Pulldown selection creates new text field in a form

I have a set of dynamic select menus that are built using Kaosweaver's http://www.kaosweaver.com/extensions/details.php?id=88
Thanks to Kaosweaver, it works fine. However, I was wondering how someone could have an extra text field popup in a form if certain values from a list/menu are selected. In my case it would be from the 2nd half of the dependent drop down but I would assume the logic would be the same even if someone was not using a dynamic select but instead just a regular list/menu.
Is this possible? I am using Dreamweaver CS4. Also if there is an alternate strategy to use in this situation then I would like to hear suggestions. The basic premise is that a couple values in a select list would need an additional text field to be collected for the form.

You know the weirdest thing just happened....I opened the PDF again to make sure it's the correct one to upload and have you take a look and as if by magic, I typed into the fields and now it doesn't disappear!!! I didn't restart any App, nor did I reboot my Mac....weird!!!!! Anyhow, I guess there is no longer an issue. I need a few minutes to finish the form and then I'll check to see if the issue comes up again. If it does, I will definitely upload the PDF and have you take a look at it.

Text Area steals Focus from Text Field when selected with mouse

I have created a very simple form with 4 spry validation elements here :: http://octopusdesign.net/contactus.html
When I attempt to select the 'Your Email' text field using the mouse, focus is grabbed by the text area above it.
It is only possible to get focus on the 'Your Email' text field by using tab.
My best guess is that this is a bug in the framework.
In addition to updating my spry libraries to 1.6 from 1.4 I've tried the following things::
Reordering the elements in the form.
Creating the elements in a different order.
Replacing the validation elements with ordinary elements.
None of these fixed the problem.
Strangely, if I remove the validation text area there is no problem.
If anyone can shed some light on this I would really appreciate it.

I've tried to reconstruct the form from scratch and discovered that if you have a validation text field and a validation text area in any order on the form, selecting the 2nd element with the mouse always results in the first element stealing the focus.

How to generate barcode from text field in adobe form???

I'm new in this forum and I hope that there are people who can answer my question.
I use Adobe Acrobat Pro 9. I have converted a Word template to a PDF template and everything works fine.
I would like to generate a barcode of the contents of a text field (by the users), for example the following format 0123-A123456-11.
I have tried in various ways but it has not worked. The barcode becomes unstructured and unreadable.
Does anyone know how to do it step by step?

Hi,
You can insert dynamic barcodes into your form using LC Designer.
You should do a search here as dynamic barcodes has been covered by by Steve Walker in detail. For example:

However one thing to bear in mind is that dynamic barcodes will not work in Reader unless the form has been Reader enabled using LC Reader Extensions ES2, which is a server product. Option 4 in this summary:

How to set focus in text box at server side

I have small problem , i have a text box in form , which is get validated at server side in servlet , if it found some thing wrong then it throws exception , i want that when an exception is thrown it should set focus for that perticular text box. so what should i write to perform such a activity.

Get hold of the element ID in the servlet (and keep the code conventions) and print it out to some Javascript function which does a focus during the onload.

Focus in text field

Our client wants to make a change to a Forms 6 app so that when he goes to a text field (either by mouse or TAB from previous field), the existing value should be highlighted to that the first key stroke will start overwriting the previous value. This is how excel works.
Right now, whenever he lands in a text field, it is in edit mode and he must first delete the value with backspaces and right/left cursor movements before entering a replacing value.

Forms is not excel. There is nothing like a "edit"-mode. The default-behaviour is, when you tab into a field, the whole content is "selected", and when you start typing the "old" value will be erased. The only way i know that not to happen is, as already mentioned, to set "Keep Cursor Position" to "Yes", which is not the default.
