SharePoint 2010 question about alert to external user

Any ideas about how to implement an alert within SharePoint 2010 that would cause an alert to be sent to a user outside of one's organization when the value of an "Assigned To" column within a list is set to that external user's e-mail address?

It should just work. Make sure to check your mail flow (e.g. Exchange server transport logs) to validate the mail is leaving the organization. Also make sure that the user that it is Assigned To has an email address assigned to them in the User Information
List (for their User account).

    Here's a very basic question about 2 TB external drives and Time Machine.
    Ihave a Mac Pro with a .75 TB and 1 TB drive.  It also has a 1 TB 2ndinternal drive.  My current external drive is too small so I'll begetting a 1.5 TB or 2 TB drive.
    Obviouslythe new larger 2 TB drive will backup everything on the Mac Prointernal drive with Time Machine.  But there will be 1 TB of space leftover going to waste.
    ShouldI partition the external drive so that the TM portion will be 1 TB andthe use the remaining extra partition for additional file backups withCarbon Copy?
    Thanks for any insights.
    I tried searching around on the new Apple discussion forum, but I find it much harder to use than the old forum I used to use.

    The problem with terabyte drives is that that a 3 TB is about as big as you can get without going into RAID territory. Ideally, a Time Machine drive should be 3 times as large as all the drives you are backing up. So, if you have 2.75 TB of internal storage, you should have 8 TB of Time Machine space.
    Of course, that is "should". If your TB drives are mostly empty, then you can get away with something 3 times the size of your used disk space. Just remember that you are pushing it. Linc is right about Time Machine needing space to work.
    It is unlikely that you have regular churn on 2.75 TB of disk. I suggest identifying which drives and folders have the most activity and excluding those drives and directories that don't change much. It would be better to archive the data that doesn't change often and keep it out of Time Machine. Then you may be able to get away with a 2 TB Time Machine drive.

    John,
    I'm not sure why you posted in the iMac forum so I'm going to attempt to get you to the correct spot. I would recommend reposting in the Time Machine Forum, this is part of the OS X forums (Leopard or Snow Leopard) because you are using Snow Leopard (your profile indicates you are) please click Apple Support Communities and type Snow Leopard. Then you can narrow the search down by clicking Refine this List.

  • SharePoint 2010 Present Wrong Timezone for External List of External Content Type

    External content is hosted on an independent SQL server DB from the SharePoint server. External content lists shows datetime fields 5 hours earlier as opposed to Eastern standard time but Web parts display data correctly.
    Yes, timezones on both servers are correct. Timezones settings in SharePoint have been checked and all appear correct. There are several places for settings. Is there a checklist in case something was missed. Our SharePoint administrator has
    looked for the cause and cannot determine.
    I poured through other blogs and issues with external content and timezone on this site including "External Content Type Saving Dates in UTC".
    Please provide a list for timezone settings such as global settings for a site, collection, external content, SharePoint 2010 designer settings, Central Administration settings, etc.

    Hi Benjamin,
    Please test the following approach for your issue, exporting the BDC Metadata Model from SharePoint Designer and change the normalization to use local time, and let us know the results.

  • Unable to send alerts to External users

    Hello,
    We've implemented SharePoint 2013 for internal and external domain users. We setup all users in our AD but the external users have their own company email addresses. Now, all of our users i.e. Internal DC users and External DC users can access and perform
    their work on SharePoint portal. However, External users are unable to receive any alerts.
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Sohaib Khan

    Hi Sohaib,
    Any updates?
    From your description, alerts work well on internal users while external users won't get email alerts.
    Since emails from SharePoint are sent via SMTP server, such as Exchange server. Not sure what SMTP server you are using integrated with SharePoint server. The issue might occur to two stage: one is if the alert is triggerred by SharePoint side, another is
    that if the email is sent via SMTP server.
    As alerts could be sent to internal users. Then I'd recommend you firstly troubleshoot if SMTP server works well for exteranl users.

  • Send Alert to External Users

    We have an internal SharePoint 2013 site, but our users are use Google for Email. I need alerts to send email to google distribution lists when documents change in one of our document libraries. We don't want to add people to the alerts or remove people
    every time the distribution list changes. When I try to add the google distribution list email to SharePoint I get the following error:
    Sorry, you are not allowed to share this with external users.
    I don't really want alerts to go to any where outside of our organization since the site is not public. I tried to create a distribution list in Active Directory with the email address I want to alert, but that didn't appear to work. I would like to either
    white list our domain name so that it is not considered and external user, or be able to create an object in AD so that SharePoint will accept email addresses we have designated as safe. Has anyone figure out a way ot do this?
    Yes, I know office 365 would make all of this easier, but that is not a fight I am going to win today. I would just like to make our SharePoint site a little more functional.

    I am already using the Site Administrator account (my admin account used to set up the site and designated as the site administrator). The account is also a domain admin and has full access to the site configuration. I haven't tried the farm account itself,
    but the farm account has less rights than my admin account, so I don't think that is it...
    Here is what I am doing:
    Server 2012 running SharePoint 2013
    Navigate to the portal home page.
    Navigate to the sub site.
    Select the document library.
    From the ribbon select library
    Select Alert Me
    Select Set alert on this library
    Enter the name of the security group configured with an email address (Attribute: mail) into the users field. Group I am using is the same one that has been assigned to the subsite for access so I know it is seen and that the group can be emailed by sharepoint.
    I can't select the group because it is not an option, so I enter the email address that is assigned to the group...
    Error I get when I click OK is:
    Sorry, you are not allowed to share with external users.

  • "Assigned To" SharePoint 2010 Question

    Any thoughts about how to implement an "Assigned To" column within a SharePoint 2010 list that would consist of "Person or Group" items and allow the default value for this column to be set to a defined SharePoint group?

    Please use People Picker (Person or Group) for it, In Sharepiont object model it is SPFieldType.Userfield.
    SPList list = web.Lists.TryGetList("Tasks");
                        if (list != null)
                            // get the SharePoint group

                            SPFieldUserValue assignToGroup = new SPFieldUserValue(web, user.ID, user.Name);

  • Basic questions about macbook pro + external monitor

    Hi,
    I have some very basic questions about using a Macbook Pro + external display. I don't actually have them but need to know how things works.
    So, here they are:
    1) Can I use the external display as the main display?
    2) Will the external display run with its resolution or with that of the mbook pro?
    3) Somewhere I read that you cannot keep the macbook pro open and get the full resolution of the external display. Is that true ?
    4) Is it dangerous to keep the mbook closed while using the external display?
    5) Does the usage of the external display impact on mbook performance?
    I know...a lot of questions , but would be nice if someone could help me.
    Thanks.

    Hi - I am presently using an external display.
    To answer your questions in sequence:
    1. Yes you can use the external display as your main display. The way to enable that mode is to put your MacBook Pro to sleep, attach the external display. Wake up your MBPro with the lid closed and you will see the external display as you main display. You can alternatively set the external to "Mirror" your notebook by using preferences/display.
    2. The external display will run at its resolution although you can adjust and calibrate it using Preferences/Display.
    3. Not true. You get max resolution on both displays. Of course you may have to tweak as mentioned above.
    4. Not at all. I use this mode all the time. Just make sure you initially set up as mentioned above and your LCD on the MBPro will stay off.
    5. I have not seen any performance degradation whatsoever.
    Hope this helps.

  • Question about Logon ticket with user mapping at BI-JAVA environment

    We're implementing BI 7.0 including BI Java and SAP EP for end user
    access.
    I have two question about SSO method when we're using BI Java.
    I know we can simply configure SSO logon ticket with BI-Java(EP
    included) and BI-ABAP through BI template installer and we already
    succeeded in that case.
    But the problem is we want to change it to user mapping SSO method for
    some our internal reason.
    After we configure user mapping SSO, we've got SSO failed error when we
    call BI-Java stuff like BEx Web Application iView.
    After many testing implemented, we found SSO Logon ticket with user
    mapping (using SAP reference system). It seems working now.
    But our question is "Is it no problem when we use SSO logon ticket with
    user mapping?" Is there any restriction or issue?
    One more question is we can ONLY use user base mapping when reference
    system used. How can we assign BI-ABAP users to EP Group?

    Using an SAP Reference system is allright. But if the reason u r going for this is because of different usernames in EP and BI, why dont you go for user mapping.
    Anyways, on restriction of reference syetms is that you can have ONLY ONE reference system defined in portal. In you case you can only have the BI system defined.
    Hope this helps!!

  • Sharepoint 2010 use fulltextsearch query to search user profile

    Hello all,
    I have a problem with FullTextSearch query for user profile:
    I have the query below:
    SELECT PictureURL, TitleOfPersonal, PersonalTitle,  Lastname, Firstname, AccountName, JobTitle, Department, workemail, EmployeeID, Empid, Exten, LeftDate, JoinDate
    FROM SCOPE() WHERE "scope"='People' AND (Department = 'CEO Office' OR Department = 'Marketing & Business Development Department' OR Department = 'Medical Department' OR Department = 'Finance Department' OR Department = 'COO Office' OR Department
    = 'Document Management & Translation Department') AND  empID != '' ORDER BY LastName
    But this query does not return any result!
    Could someone help me on this ?
    Thank you very much !

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to search user profile using FullTextSqlQuery.
    Please try to use the query below:
    SELECT PictureURL, TitleOfPersonal, PersonalTitle, Lastname, Firstname, AccountName, JobTitle, Department, workemail, EmployeeID, Empid, Exten, LeftDate, JoinDate
    FROM SCOPE() WHERE "scope"='People'
    If the query works, please use CONTAINS(DEPARTMENT,'<value>') instead of
    Department = '<value>' .
    Here is a discussion for you to take a look at.

    If there still no result returns, please provide more code for further research.

  • Question about alerting

    Greetings,
    I have a request from a user to generate an alert to the logged in user whenever a goods receipt PO is received into the SBO system. I am trying to use a query to achieve this. I have two questions that I cannot find an answer to:
    1) How do I get the system date from a database table? Or can I? If I can't then how do I get this value in a Query in SBO?
    2)How do I get the Logged in user in a query so that i can set up this alert for the users I want to but they will only receive an alert when they are listed in the goods receipt PO?
    Thank you for any information.

    Hello Laura,
    you can use GETDATE() to get the current date in a query
    and I read in one of the post of this forum that $[USER] will give you the id of the current logged user.

  • A question about creating READ ONLY users.

    Dear all,
    I have a question about read only user accounts and I would appreciate if you could kindly give me a hand. I have a schema named SCHEMA1. Whenever I want to connect by using sqlplus I run the following:
    sqlplus user1/[email protected] SCHEMA1.WORLD is the entry in the tnsnames.ora referring to the schema SCHEMA1.
    I need to create a read only user who is able to SELECT all tables and views created by user1 on SCHEMA1 (this user will not modifiy anything at all. The user is used only for a person using SQL queries to read data). for several tables I write the grants explicitly, for example:
    CREATE USER user2 IDENTIFIED BY user2;
    GRANT CREATE SESSION to user2;
    GRANT SELECT ON S001_COR_ECLASS TO user2;
    GRANT SELECT ON REF_ECLASS511 TO user2;Is there anyway to do the same thing but for all the tables (because there are a lot of tables and views)? Besides, even with these granted permissions when the user connects with SQL Developer to the database, he is not able to view the list of tables/views in SQL Developer GUI. What causes this problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dariyoosh

    Hello Dariyoosh,
    he is not able to view the list of tables/views in SQL Developer GUIyou can either go to "Other Users" - user1 - tables. There you see every table you have permission to select.
    Or you can create a synonym in schema2 for each table in schema1 and set a filter on the tables node of user2 "Include synonyms".

  • SharePoint 2010 Workflow: Email alert when item is due to expire

    Hi Guys,
    I have a library which contains a number of customer records. In this library I have a custom date column called End Date which is used to hold a date when the record is due to expire. I would like to create a solution which would send an email alert to someone
    when the record is 30days away from expiring a sort of warning, and another email once the expiry date had been lapsed and the record had expired. Can you please advise how best to create this solution, I should imagine that this would be easily achieved in

    If someone could help me out with what code to use, or some useful how to's it would be much appreciated.
