Show ip interface brief

Just a quick question that I have been unable to find the answer to on the net.
I ran the "show ip interface brief" on one of my 3550 switches.
Under the "method" column I have some interfaces saying "NVRAM" and some saying "manual" Can anyone explain what the difference between the "manual" and "NVRAM" setting?
Thanks,
Craig.

Yes, i believe its how your interface obtains its IP address although i don't know how the device differentiates between manual and NVRAM.
Here are the possible values:
The method field has the following possible values:
•RARP or SLARP—Reverse Address Resolution Protocol (RARP) or Serial Line Address Resolution Protocol (SLARP) request
•BOOTP—Bootstrap protocol
•TFTP—Configuration file obtained from Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) server
•manual—Manually changed by CLI command
•NVRAM—Configuration file in nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM)
•IPCP—ip address negotiated command
•DHCP—ip address dhcp command
•unassigned—No IP address
•unset—Unset
•other—Unknown

  • Show ip interface brief command output

    Hi,
I have seen 'show ip interface brief' command output.
For some interfaces 'method' it is showing 'NVRAM' and for some interfaces it is 'Manual'.
    What does it mean?
    Regards
    SKR

    hello,
what about CONFIG method. what is the difference between that and manual and how can I change it to CONFIG? this is related to the ASA 5585.
    thanks!!

  • Is the "show interface brief" command 100% safe?

I am planning on performing a health check on multiple Cisco SAN switches. This check will be performed five or more times a day. I know that the "show" commands are usually safe commands, but I have seen instances where "show tech-support" has caused the supervisor to restart. This type of outage is not acceptable.
    1) Does anyone know of an instance where "show interface brief" has caused any kind of problem?
    2) I currently use Device Manager to perform health checks. Does Device Manager use a "show interface" command to display port states?
    3) What kind of CPU usage does "show interface brief" have on a SAN switch?
    4) Does anyone have a low-level explanation of what happens when a "show interface brief" command is executed?
    5) Is it safe to run "show interface brief" many times a day and every day of the year?

i can tell you that we run "show int fc X" every 5 minutes. We use a perl script that telnets to the switch every 5 minutes, runs "show int fc X" on specific ports, dumps output to log file on the server and then parses it for link status. This is how we monitor our DWDM links.

  • Adobe Acrobat XI Pro scanner freezes up on Show Scanner Interface

My Acrobat XI Pro freezes up when the settings on my scanner (Epson Expression 10000XL - Graphic Arts Scanner) is set on "Native Mode" & "Show Scanner Interface". It will scan with the "Hide Scanner Interface".  I have been using this same scanner with Acrobat XI, with these settings (Show Scanner Interface) for at least six months.  I tried uninstalling then reinstalling XI & rebooted, but this did not help.  I finally uninstalled XI then installed my old Acrobat 9 Pro, then it worked perfectly (this tells me that my problem is definitely with XI and not my scanner).  I am very frustrated that I cannot use my new Acrobat program and have to go back to the old one, especially when I have been using the new one for so long without any problems.  Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?  I have Windows 7 (Service Pack 1)

You may want to ask in the Acrobat forum for scanning and OCR.

Under IOS 12.1(13)E, one can view the detailed interface counter using the command, for example :
    show counter interface gigabitEthernet 10/7
It comes up with detailed counters in hexadecimal format. I need to know, if there is way, to clear these counters.

  • Snmp oids for the command "show counters interface intx/y delta"

    Hello,
I have a question about SNMP OIDs for the command "show counters interface intx/y delta" on Catalyst6500. The customer wants to create graphs for the following values:Overruns, qos0Outlost, InErrors, OutErrors, InDiscards, OutDiscards etc..
Is possible to get these values using SNMP??
    Thank you
    Roman

Thank you, Dan. These OIDs are for the output from the command "show interface int x/y". But I think, that these OIDs are not for the command "show interface int x/y delta".

  • Remote app on my ipad only show iTunes interface...

I was having problems getting me iPad Remote app to work with my Apple TV 1.  So I deleted then re-added it to my iPad.
It did find my Apple TV 1 and sync, but now it only shows an itunes interface and there seems to be no way to use it
    as a remote? Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

  • Remote app on iPad2 not showing iTunes interface on ATV2 shared library

I have an AppleTV 2 that's sharing an iTunes library via home sharing over Ethernet from a Mac Mini. Running Remote App on my iPhone 5S, I can control that library as expected. Running Remote App on my iPad2, however, I'm unable to see the main iTunes-like interface that lists songs, albums, artists, etc. on the shared library. While I can see the currently playing song at the top of the screen and have access to the Back, Pause, and Forward buttons, the main pane below that only shows the icons for Home Sharing and Using Gestures. Under Home Sharing, where it says "Tap the Apple TV button in the bottom left...," there's not Apple TV button, only "Devices." I can use the gestures interface in Remote App on the iPad2 to control playback, but I never see the main library interface. Any thoughts you have for remedying this would be really appreciated!

Well the response I got to the above post was outstanding!
Shall we put this in the bracket along with "If a tree falls in the forest with no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?"
If anyone is wondering, for my party I ended up using my Mac as the server for the iTunes DJ. And I discovered that if more than 5-7 people try to get onto it, it crashes the whole system and the music stops. Glorious.

  • ASA 5505 - L2TP over IPsec - Remote Address shows outside interface address

Using an ASA 5505 for firewall and VPN.  We've enabled L2TP over IPsec to allow Windows clients to connect without third party software.
The devices complete the connection and authenticate fine, but then are unable to hit any internal resources.  Split tunneling seems to be working, as they can still hit outside resources.  Packet tracer shows tcp flowing freely between VPN clients (192.168.102.0/24) and internal resources (192.168.100.0/24).  Even the NAT translation looks good in packet tracer.
I pulled up the session details for one of the VPN clients in the ASDM and under the IPsecOverNatT details, it is showing the VPN client's remote address correctly, but displays the local address as the address assigned to the outside interface (which the client is using to connect.)  This seems to be the problem, as viewing detailed connection logs shows the internal resources trying to send packets back to the outside interface rather than the VPN client's assigned internal addresses.  Details:
Crypto map tag: SYSTEM_DEFAULT_CRYPTO_MAP, seq num: 65535, local addr: [OUTSIDE INTERFACE ADDRESS]

Any ideas?  The remote clients connect but when internal resources try to send traffic to the VPN clients, the packets are directed to the outside interface address instead of the local address assigned to the VPN client.

I have what I believe to be a similar issue. Site to site vpn is working well. That is site b can ping and send traffic to site A but Site A can not. Site B is a 3rd party vpn router. Site A is a Cisco 5505.
It appears that when the crypto map inserts the route into the routing table it shows the route via the outside IP of the outside interface and not the IP of Site B. in the crypto map I can see the proper ip address for the peer. I can't figure out why when it inserts the route that it uses the wrong ip address

  • Is there any possibility to show English interface in Chinese windows-xp?

I'm using English Windows-XP, but "Language for non-Unicode program" setting has to be set as "Chinese(PRC)" to show Chinese word correctly in my laptop.
ODI interface in this environment always show in Chinese, but all the manual is in English, so it's difficult for me to make clear which word in ODI interface is the meaning in manual.
My question is, Is there any possibility to show ODI English interface even "Language for non-Unicode program" setting in my Windows-XP is "Chinese(PRC)"?

    OK, I got the answer.
set lines below in odiparams.bat in windows and odiparams.sh in unix:
    set ODI_ADDITIONAL_JAVA_OPTIONS="-Duser.language=en" "-Duser.region=US"

  • Compressor 3 shows no interface and appears to not work

For some reason Compressor never works for me. Every time I click compressor icon it appears to load up and the toolbar show "compressor" but I see no work interface.
Or if I try import a FCP project into compressor the samething happens.
    I'm using FCS2.

What is in the list under the View and Window menus?
It's possible all of your windows are simply off the edges of your monitor, no way for me to guess form where I'm sitting. Do you know how to use the application feature of Exposé? You can also change the size of your monitor to the largest possible option and see fi the windows become visible.
Beyond that, no clue. Except many such issues turn out to be simple user errors. You just need to figure out which simple issue you're dealing with.

It appears to be working, but is this correct since dladm does not show the vnet1 interface?

I had the same problem. SUN support recommends latest kernel patches. That solved my problem.

  • Sh shun statistics show all interfaces OFF at ASA.

    Hi,
    I have ASA 5510 (8.0.2), ASDM 6.1 and ASA-SSM-10 6.1.
When I run "sh shun statistics" at ASA, I receive the folloing:
    outside=OFF, cnt=351
    inside_backup=OFF, cnt=0
    dmz=OFF, cnt=26059
    inside=OFF, cnt=18414
Does it mean that Shunning is not working. If so, how can I enable it?
Thanks in advance for the help.
    Semih

It means you are currently not shunning a host.
Try putting a manual shun in and check then.
Also use "sh shun" to show you current shuns.
    I hope it helps.

  • Wlc monitor client detail show wrong interface name

    Hi,
Do anyone know why I see the wrong interface name when looking at the client details?
In the shown example the interface name should have been id017_publikunm not id161_admin
The vlan nunmer 2317 and IP address 10.17.237.x is correct for id017_publikum.
I hope some one out there can help.
    Aksel,

I know its an old post but I encountered the same problem recently. What I did was I went to the same client properties and clicked on the remove button. It removed the association and when I filtered for the same client mac address I could see it has connected to the correct interface. So it was getting the correct IP Address also.............problem solved :)

    Hi,
Hope you can write one Logger class of your own. Which you can use to direct the message in your textFields.
Otherwise use can use any logger API like log4j and in your text area just open that file so that user can see all the logging that has been done.
Hope it might work for you.
    Thanks,
