Hello. Since my last firefox update, I have been unable to type an email - the box within which one would usually type does not appear when I press 'reply' to a received email, or press 'compose'. The email provider is '123-reg.co.uk. I have been using both firefox and the provider ['webfusion Ltd/webmail123] successfully for well over a year. The provider says it is a browser problem. I can still add an attachment to the email header, which successfully can be sent, but the recipient gets my standard email 'signature' with font messages and the attachment. Can anyone help? My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • Since updating to Yosemite my audio is not working?

    Hey,
Every since updating to Yosemite on my MacBook Pro (Early 2011 model) my audio/sound has been very intermittent.  It stops working after my computer goes to sleep and needs a hard restart to get it back.
A few times I was able to kill the process in activity monitor or use a terminal command and it would reset the coreaudio and work but that stopped working for me now too.. Coreaudio shows in activity monitor as not responding even after it comes back after a force quit or regular quit.
Has anyone been able to identify and solve this issue?
    Thanks

    Repair permissions & restart.
Check your settings in the Audio Midi app which is located in the Utilities folder.

Trick/Tip:Open up GarageBand if installed then, open a program (optional).
Quit out of the GarageBand app.
    =====================
    Repairing the mysteriously muted Mac
The background on the issue is that there’s a small sensor switch inside the headphone port. When you insert a headphone jack, the sensor understands what's what and changes the sound output setting to Headphones. If you insert a jack for digital audio output, the device changes to Digital Out. When you remove the jack completely, it should read Internal Speakers.
The spirits tell me that there’s a very good chance that you recently had something jacked into this port—a set of headphones or a cable leading to powered speakers, for example. When you removed the jack, something in the port prevented the sensor from tripping correctly. That’s why you see Digital Out instead of internal Speakers.
The solution is to force the sensor to do its job. The safest way to do that is to simply run a jack in and out of the port a few times. Much of the time, this takes care of the problem by correctly tripping the sensor. If that doesn’t work, there may be gunk in the port. Before turning to more invasive techniques, get a can of compressed air, attach the small tube that fits the nozzle, and blast a few shots of air into the port. With any luck, that should dislodge the gunk and the port will operate as it should.
If that doesn’t work, find a foam-tipped swab that fits (electronics shops generally carry them), dip it in rubbing alcohol, and gently insert it into the headphone port in an attempt to wipe away any stubborn gunk. I recommend foam rather than cotton swabs because the cotton variety might leave threads behind. (This same technique works well with misbehaving headphone ports on devices such as iOS devices.)
It's possible that gunk has nothing to do with it. Rather, it may be that the switch just needs a subtle nudge. If a jack or swab doesn't work, I've heard of people successfully resetting it with a deft poke of a toothpick.

  • Issues since update to yosemite

    Hello everyone,
I've been having all sorts of issues since updating to yosemite which I am struggling to fix on my macbook.
I've had the mac since 2010/11 and the first thing I noticed after updating to Yosemite was the fan constantly running from the moment I boot the machine and that the icons on my desktop were extremely slow to load up as are any files in the documents folder and finder.
Then watching videos on youtube etc were refusing to play fully. I have since updated to the latest flash player but it is still slow.
I ran the activity monitor and a kernel task file is operating at around 120% all the time.
I have read numerous posts on the internet to try to fix and have upgraded to the latest yosemite, reset the printers and many other things.
Now the trackpad is no longer working and not recognised and now the final straw for me is the keyboard refusing to be recognised at startup. I am currently using a wired mouse and bluetooth keyboard to get around these problems and everything is working fine with these but is a real pain.
Has anyone had any similar problems to the above and know how to sort as this is taking up way too much of my time.
    Thanks

What is the exact, complete text of the error message you get?

  • My NTFS formatted external Toshiba drive is unreadable since update to Yosemite OS X 10.10.1

My portable external Toshiba hard drive is now unreadable on my MacBook Pro early 2008 aluminum computer. Since updating to Yosemite OS X 10.10.1, I cannot recover my files stored as Time Machine backups on my external drive. In the finder, it cannot be see under devices, however in Disk Utility, it is visible. The mounted partition is not viewable, however. My own native hard drive is 200 GB while the external hd is 500 GB. There's no creating a 500 GB image on my hard drive, in other words. I've tried the latest versions of Paragon NTFS and Tuxera NTFS with no avail.
How am I to recover my files, most importantly my Time Machine backups, from my external drive?

The first thing I realised when I started using a Mac was that it does not read NFTS files straight from the box. I had a Toshiba external drive as well and I had to copy all the files using a windows computer. Installed Tuxera on  my Mac, partitioned the Toshiba drive into 2 sections one NFTS and the other Journaled.
When you copy files, do not modify the files as this may render them useless on your Mac.
I use the Journaled partition for Time Machine and the NFTS on both Mac and Windows file storage.
Do not format the Toshiba external drive otherwise you will lose all your data. Install a paid version of Tuxera on your Mac to be able to read the data. Some Toshiba hard drives come with a complete version of Tuxera.

  • Since updating to Yosemite Apple remote doesn't work

    Hello all,
I have a bit of a problem, since updating to Yosemite my Apple remote stopped working on my iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011). It worked before the update without a hitch, but now I can't pair it to the computer.
It is a 7 button remote in question, tried pairing it as before using the right arrow + menu but nothing happens. I have also tried with a new battery so this not the issue.
I guessed it needed to be "re-paired" to it again so I have followed the instructions System Preferences / Security & Privacy / General / Advanced  but I don't have the “Disable remote control infrared receiver.” option to be found...
I tried googling the solution but with no luck so I rely on your advice, please
Here is also a print screen of my Security & Privacy window...
It is not a major issue but it is a bit of an inconvenience....
    Thnx!

  • Since updating to Yosemite and CS6 2 of my print options are greyed out on my epson R2880 print pane?

My colour and colour settings options are 'greyed out' on my  Epson printer pane since updating to Yosemite and CS6,this happened before after running a software update on the printer driver! The driver version at that time was 6.62 and now it has updated to version 9.00....could this be the problem??

That's strange ... did you try restarting before printer install? You also may need to delete the printer itself (System Preferences > Printers & Scanners) and add it again , in order to access the proper drivers (?)
Can you show screen shot(s) of your incomplete print dialog?

  • Since updating to Yosemite my airport express (used for airplay) connects for a short period then drops, the error message "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device "Kitchen". The host cannot be reached."  Has anyone else had this?

Since updating to Yosemite my airport express (used for airplay) connects for a short period then drops, the error message "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Kitchen”. The host cannot be reached."  Has anyone else had this problem

I'm having the same issue.  Haven't found a workaround.  I use a main TimeCapsule as my main router, also have another TimeCapsule that extends the network, three Airport Express and an AppleTV.  For whatever reason, the two AirportExpress that I have in a different rooms cut out.  I only have 600 square foot apartment so it's not that big, the signal should be strong enough.  Airport Utilitiy reports the signal strength to be strong on all devices.
I'm using all new equipment, a new MacPro for my music, new TimeCapsules, new Airport Express, new everything with the latest Yosemite software.  Very frustrating.  My Airplay used to work very nice and now I'm constantly having issues and restarting my network.  I did a fresh install of all my software on my MacPro when I got it in January so it's not as if it's an old machine with old software, everything is new within the last 6 months.
The only workaround I found so far is to unplug the devices and to plug them back in.  Since upgrading to Yosemite, I'm restarting my Airport Express at least twice a week.  Very annoying.

  • I updated to Yosemite, now my laptop keyboard does not work in MS Word for Mac. Help!

I updated to Yosemite, now my laptop keyboard does not work in MS Word for Mac. Help! Any suggestions for fixing this?

Did you ever get a solution to your problem? Because I am having the same problem. I was actually in the middle of using Word when the keyboard stopped working. But it works in other apps, including in Excel.
Thing is that my laptop just got back from Apple for repairs and they replaced everything but the display - including the hard drive.
So not only do I have plenty of hard drive space, but it should be virus and error free otherwise.
I have only installed a few programs and redownloaded some of my files from places like Dropbox, but otherwise is essentially a new system.
Oh - and it came with Yosemite, so I did not upgrade to Yosemite and still Word doesn't work.
I've always had trouble getting Word to play nice with my Mac but that was also with the old, full hard drive.
This is a fresh install. And since I lost all my files, I only had like 1 old file I have downloaded from email and accessed and was in the process of
creating a new file when it crashed. I got no error, the keyboard just stopped working (to type). I also cannot even get Word > Preferences to even open,
    so it is completely unresponsive.
I did a Google search and under the Microsoft communities two suggestions to that person were that there may be multiple copies installed -
I have only the one - and that one is in the wrong place - again, I only have the one and it installed to the Hard drive (visible in Launchpad / Apps).
Another suggestion was that there was some problem with the updates. I ran updates and they installed fine. That helper suggested that the user
may have had different updates that worked for the other Office apps (Excel, PPT etc.) but not Word and that was at least part, if not all of his problem,
but all my Office apps show the same update version 12.3.6, so that cannot be the issue with me.
I've not yet tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but as I got no errors on the original install or updates, I'm not sure if that would fix it.
I've found that Mac just doesn't play nice with some programs at all.
And even though I have a factory installed version of Yosemite on a new, fresh hard drive, even when I booted up, my iPhoto app (which is empty) crashed. I am not sure if my iPhone or iPad was charging at the time, but I don't think so. iPhoto that I still have not even used has crashed several more times since, most notably when plugging in my iPhone / iPad to charge, namely when I declined to upload photos (by default) to DropBox. That may not be related at all, but thus far seems the only other problem I have encountered until this Word problem.
I'm on a MacBook Pro, Sept. 2009, running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 factory installed from Apple repairs running Office: 2008 for Mac (Home and Student edition).
Please advise if you found a resolution and what it was.
    Thanks

  • Newly bought 2012 model mini - Do I update to Yosemite now?

I had read that some with old models encountered problems after they updated to Yosemite because they already had a lot of stuff. Since mine is newly bought and I haven't put stuff yet, is it good idea to update to Yosemite now to avoid problems or the issue would still happen anyway after updating to Yosemite?

If Yosemite is going to cause a problem, it's likely to do it whether you have migrated your data to your new Mac or not. Personally, I would wait to upgrade because Yosemite was just released. Their will be updates to fix bugs as the weeks go along. Just my opinion.

  • Mail not connecting regularly since updating to Yosemite

Ever since updating to Yosemite my mail program has had a really hard time staying connected to my email accounts.  Both my gmail and my icloud accounts are affected.  The settings have not changed, and this worked fine on all previous iterations of OSX.
Could not connect to iMap Server
connection to server "imap....."on port 993 timed out.
I've tried deselcting Use SSL, but it doesn't seem to fix the problem.  It just times out on port 143.
The only caveat to this is if I quit mail and re-launch, the program connects, but only for a little while.

Check Settings>General>Date & Time>Set Automatically>On. Make sure that the time zone setting is also set correctly.
If that didn't solve the problem, restart your iPad and try again. If that fails, reset your iPad and try again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
