  • Are mailboxes and smart mailboxes really missing?

Just got my new iPad. Set up mail. Am I missing something, or is creating mailboxes and smart mailboxes really absent here? If so, then it's really not going to be possible for me to jettison my laptop top as I was hoping to do. In which case, color me majorly disappointed.

Thanks for confirming that I wasn't missing some in context aspect. (I see from another reply that it may be possible to set up Mailboxes within Mobile Me and have them appear on the iPad). As to research, I assumed in buying at this early stage that it would be evolving -- and that Apple will be watching closely to see which additional features to tweak/add. So I've also gone to their feedback page to request this one, plus an ability to view more than 200 msgs at a time.

  • Missing Smart Mailboxes

I updated to OS X Lion and now I can't find all of my previously created Smart mailboxes. Am I missing something?

I upgraded to mountain lion today, lost some mailboxes, the searching and wonder ended with clicking
"on my mac"   some boxes I'd even forgot.  Thank-You pixel princess,

  • New smart mailbox is missing after Mail restart

    Mail Version 7.1 (1827)
Create new smart mailbox.  Quit Mail.  Restart Mail.  New smart mailbox is missing.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder window should open. From that folder, move the following files to the Desktop:
    SmartMailboxesLocalProperties.plist
    SyncedSmartMailboxes.plist
Test. If Mail now works, delete the files you moved and recreate your smart mailboxes, if necessary. Otherwise put the files back where they were, overwriting any that may have created in their place.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Missing Smart Mailbox and VIP Emails - Post Yosemite Upgrade

    Good day,
Hoping for a little help.  After the Yosemite and Mail upgrades I have the following issues:
    1) Smart Mailboxes are empty and do not contain message that were there pre-upgrade
    2) VIP email messages are also not showing up
    3) Search for email messages is no longer working
    Would love some assistance please.
    Thanks.

Have you tried re-creating Photoshop preferences:
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by manually deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
NEW Video! Julieanne Kost created a video that takes you through two ways of resetting your Photoshop preferences. The manual preference file removal method is between 0:00 - 5:05. The keyboard shortcut method is between 5:05 - 8:18. The video is located here:

    Mac OS
Important: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If  you require access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.

  • Smart mailbox folders missing

That says it all. I created several smart mailboxes and then created several smart mailbox folders. When I close mail  and re-open, one smart mailbox folder remains and the others are gone, along with some but not all of my smart mailboxes. Any one got any ideas?

Came here looking for help with almost exactly the same problem. Made a couple of Smart Mailbox Folders yesterday (for the first time under Lion), and suddenly at some point today they're gone. Although I don't appear to have lost the 2 or 3 actual Smart Mailboxes they contained.
Thought maybe I'd imagined creating them for a moment, but took Mail into Time Machine, and there they were on all backups back to yesterday afternoon. TM will only restore actual messages I think ... so recreated the folders, but as you found, on quitting Mail and reopening, there they weren't - gone! Again!
And now, couple of hours later, I try again, just for the **** of it, and at the moment the one folder I've made appears to be staying put. Not aware of any particular difference in machine context, though clearly there must be something.
Some curiosities ... think I noticed they'd gone shortly after having a perplexing few minutes where I'd lost the Icons for my USB TM drive and a mounted DVD off the desktop, though they still displayed as mounted in Finder sidebar - nothing to do with Finder prefs, I checked and Finder was still set to display icons mounted disks; and at the same time, two particular documents (out of around 30 items) on the desktop that keep sporadically losing their positions repeated their offense. May have nothing to do with the Mail folder problem, but these are the first two head scratching moments I've had in my first 3 weeks of 10.7.3.
If anyone can shed any light on this, that'd be great.
Just getting to grips with a brand new Macbook Air, my first Intel Mac so I've leapfrogged Snow Leopard, but never had this problem with the few uses I made of Smart Mailbox Folders under Leopard.

  • Multiple Groups of Conditions in Smart Mailboxes

In Yosemite Mail is it possible to create more than one group of conditions for a smart mailbox?
In iTunes, when creating smart playlists, you can press OPTION while clicking on the '+' sign to add conditions. A new group of conditions can be added.
I do not see anything similar in Mail.
    Thanks,
    b.

I think you miss the point.
I'm looking to make a smart mailbox to show mail with
    (Condition A AND Condition B)
    OR
    (Condition A AND Condition C)
    OR
    (Condition X AND Condition Y)
    Thanks,

  • Smart Mailbox When Using The Subject Condition

    Hi
Apologies if this is already a know issue.
I created the following Smart Mailbox to find mails with attachments, but to exclude those that were related to iCards...
    [] Contains Attachments
[] Subject Does not contain iCard
This appeared to work until I noticed that a number of expected mails were missing from the list.
The mails that were missing appeared to have no subject, but the "(no Subject)" filler was not displayed.
Using View->Message->Raw Source showed that the value for Subject was a single space.
Messages which did not have a value for Subject were retuned.
Something appears to be wrong with the way a Smart Mailbox deals with email subjects that are simply a single space and 'Subject' is one of the conditions.
Has anyone else come across this ?
    Regards
    Richard

    You’re welcome.
OK, so I’ve tried this myself, and it appears to be a bug. It seems that received messages that only contain spaces in the Subject never satisfy any smart mailbox [Subject] condition, not even a [Contains/Begins with/Ends with] <space> condition.
Interestingly enough, sent messages with only spaces in the Subject do work as expected. In particular, if you send a message to yourself with a subject that’s blank or only contains spaces and check Include messages from Sent in the smart mailbox definition, the sent message will appear in the smart mailbox whereas the received one won’t.
If you want this to be fixed, you may report it in one of the following places:

  • VIP folder vs. Smart Mailbox Folder - Why won't they behave similarly?

My poorly formatted question is this. Why in the VIPs folder you can view ALL the emails in one view from the people you add to this list when you click on the root VIPS text...HOWEVER...when you create a Smart Mailbox Folder like "Employees" and then add people to that list, you can't see all the emails from everybody in one view when you click on the root Employees text. You have to individually select employees from the pull down list to see their emails.
I thought this used to work fine with Lion. Maybe I'm missing something here?
Also, another weird and annoying little bug is that when you add Employees to your favorites bar and then select one of the employees from the list, the text in your favorites bar changes from "Employees" to "Employees - John Doe (24)" and doesn't let you revert it back to the simple Employees root text unless you drag it off the favorties bar and then re-add it. Very annoying.
Anyone else having the same problem?
    Thanks!

I am using gmail. So not really sure. I deleted almost everything in both the Macand Gmail mailboxes. And today they are back again...

  • Smart mailboxes not being to smart

I created a group in my address book with all my family in it. I then set up a smart mailbox with one rule ....."Sender is a member of a group then I chose family...as that is the name of the group. but none I repeat none of the e-mails from any of the people listed in that group are going into that smart mailbox?!? Am I missing something or does the "smart-mail box" have a not so smart disposition? Then again it could be the user

I tried this at home last night and got the same result you did ... a complete failure of any messages to show up.
However, just now on my work machine, it performs as expected.
The OS and all other software on both machines is completely up to date and there's very little difference in how Tiger arrived to be on both machines.
That leaves me with two suggested ideas:
    1) create a new address book group and see if the problem resolves
    2) create a new user account and then create address book entries and e-mail access from the new user account to see if that solves the issue. Be careful that the e-mail account in this new user doesn't remove the mail from the server when you download it or you won't be able to get it in you main user account.

  • My smart mailboxes are not synchronising between my iMac and my Macbook air

Hi, I have an iMac running OS X 10.9.5 and a Macbook Air running OS X 10.9.5. I predominately use my iMac, but when I travel or out of the office I take my Macbook Air. I can see my smart mailboxes on both machines, but the content is missing on the majority of my smart mailboxes on my Macbook Air.
Oddly enough, I recently created a new smart mailbox (in the last three weeks) and the content of this mailbox is synchronised in both machines. I not sure how to fix this so as I have all smart folders synchronised on both machines.
    Thanks in advance.
    Dolores

Thanks, I knew that though and nothing was happening.
However, since I asked the question my documents have started to sync. No idea why, nothing has changed in my settings apart from a restart of all devices...but it's working so issue solved!

  • Question re: setting up smart mailboxes

I have a mailbox that is set to gather email with the following criteria - Any recipient contains [email protected], plus several other criteria. This is set up to gather important stuff so I don't miss it. Today I discovered a MAJOR problem with this. If a sender does not disclose the list of recipients, for example they are using BCC for a list,  the email will not go to this smart mailbox. I nearly missed an email announcing the death of a very dear friend because of it!
So my question is this - is there any way to create a smart mailbox rule other than what's provided in the drop down selection boxes? I want to add a rule "received by [email protected]" so that I don't miss another crucial email.
    thanks

Yes you should be seeing the logo, but everyone's getting the red X instead - it's a bug introduced by the 10.1.2 update (as is the appearance of the "i" icon at the top right, where we should have the templates menu icon) but it doesn't affect the function of the dialog. What appears on the left-side panel and in the Advanced tree depends on what's in the file - some have more XMP structure than others.

  • Smart mailbox issues with "any recipient" or "from" in 10.4.11, mail 2.1.3

smart mailbox isn't reacting to its rules correctly. I have added a new group in adressbook then created a smart mailbox with "sender is member of group" and set the group accordingly. No joy.
I also tried right clicking an adress in a message and choosing "create smart mailbox". The rule is: from, contains, "adress that i right-clicked". no joy.
    am i missing something?

    Good news, great to hear!
But with the problems you ebded up with, at the very least do this...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.

  • Smart mailbox and signatures disappeared OSX Mountain Lion

I restarted Mail today and all of my smart mailboxes and my signature have disappeared.
I tried the Mailbox "Rebuild" command, but that didn't bring them back.
Will I have to re-do all of them from scratch? It takes about half an hour to set them all back up again...

I re-set up all of the smart mail filters yesterday from scratch and found them all missing again today...
I had dragged some of them up to the top nav of the mail client. They still appear there, but they are greyed out and nothing happens when I click them.
It seems serveral others are having this problem. I didn't see any official fixes for it though.
    Thanks.

  • Smart mailbox emails are empty

I created a couple of Smart Mailboxes and when I click on many of the emails in the folders, they are empty.
When I go to the same emails in the InBox all the inforamtion can be seen.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks.

    Hi Cliff,
I haven't tried this on 10.6.x yet, so not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems in 10.4.x/10.5.x...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
