If Find My Phone has not been activated on the iPhone before being lost there is nothing more that you can do to locate it with iCloud.  The only option is physical search for it.
If you have an idea of the location, call the iPhone and see if you can hear it ring.

The only way to locate/disable/erase any lost/stolen iPhone/iPod Touch is through Find My Phone or a similar app. However, this requires that Find My Phone be setup/activated, on your phone, before it was lost/stolen. You would then login at iCloud.com & try to locate it. This requires the phone be turned on & have an Internet connection. There is no other way to locate a lost/stolen iPhone. Apple can't/won't help you, nor will your carrier. Report the loss to the Police, your carrier & Insurance company. Change all of your passwords.
If your carrier offers Blacklisting & they Blacklist the phone, it will be unusable as a phone.
If locked with a passcode, and running iOS 7.0, then phone cannot be activated or the passcode removed without knowing your Apple iD/Password. It will be nothing but a useless paperweight.
If not running iOS 7.0, the phone can be forced into recovery mode & restored.

  • Scammed? lost iphone found - now disappeared off icloud

    Hi,
My husband, Ernest's, brand new iphone 6 was lost (stolen) last week and via icloud i enabled "lost phone mode" and entered by own mobile number. Last night I received an SMS indicating that the phone had been found (giving me the last digits of the serial number) and directing me to an apple support site (http://appleisupports.com) to verify the details, which I did,.... after that, there was an email that there was a sign in on Ernest's icloud and I changed the password immediately, but could not find any trace of his iphone on find-my-iphone (before this the phone would show with status offline) anymore.
Now, I am pretty sure that this was a scam to get access to the account and erase the lost phone mode, which they (whomever they are) completed successfully. Needless to say is that I have not been informed of the location of the stolen phone....
I would like to know who I could report this to, within the apple support community, to avoid other people making the same mistake.
    Picture of the SMS attached
    Thanks, Josee

My understanding is that changing the password does not prevent Find My iPhone from continuing to work with the account.  However, they may have forced it into recovery mode and restored it.  This would have erased it and rendered it unable to be tracked, but it could not be reactivated and used.

You probably will not be able to find the owner. Turn it into the police.

  • I have found a lost iPhone 4--how do I get it back to the owner?

    Hello Folks,
I've found a lost iPhone 4, along with a charger and some other personal effects (none of which are identifying, unfortunately).
Unfortunately, the phone ("Alyssa's Phone) was locked.  No problem, call up the service provider (Telus) with the SIM card number.  Unactivated and thus unregistered SIM card.
Okay, let's use the IMEI or serial number off the back of the SIM tray--not registered with Telus, either.
Okay, let's phone up Apple technical support: serial number no longer eligible for support!
Clearly, Apple has had some dealing with the phone--can they get in touch with the owner and let them know where they can pick up the phone?

Try to connect the MBP to your computer with Firewire-Target Disk Mode
    follow instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661
and try to find out the owners identity.
it won't work if "open firmware password" is enabled on the MBP.
Or if everything is FileVault encrypted.
It's possible it won't work without a power brick for the MBP, perhaps you can borrow one ?
You could also take out the Harddisk, and pop it in an external enclosure, but that's more effort.

I have accidentally deleted an sms that I require from my iphone 4s. Can anyone please help me to recover this?

If it wasn't present the last time you backed up your phone, then you've lost it forever.  There's no "trash" on the iPhone that you can "undelete"

Turn it in to the police. Why is this even a question?

  • Found lost Iphone in Orlando

Hey, I'm writing this on behalf of a coworker who had gone to Orlando on vacation. She had rented a car at AVIS and they found someone's iphone in the trunk. It was dead when they found it and had a sticker on the back of it. I contacted both AT&T and Apple but they could be of no help. It doesnt help that the lady brought it back to Ohio instead of giving it to AVIS. Anyone know of a good lost and found place for Iphones? Or if your out there and lost your phone in Orlando please contact me at [email protected] It looks like the phone is still getting service so i will leave it on my ipod charger so it can receive calls.

I am curious. If you have a iPod charger, plug it into computer with iTunes. Now sometimes iTunes won't show the phone when locked but sometimes it does (weird, I just notice this odd behavior all the time).
If it does see it then it will show it in iTunes. Now don't sync or anything, but right there in iTunes it will tell you the phone number of the phone.
    Other option, turn on phone.
Slide to unlock (yes I know you don't know the code)
    On keypad press Emergency Call.
    It will bring up Keypad.
It will allow you to call any number.
If the phone hasn't been deactivated, call yourself and get caller ID of phone.
Now you know who to call.
Oops, duh, you you have phone. But maybe get voice mail.
But first option with iTunes will still give you number even if phone has been deactivated thus the person may have a new phone with that number.

And my iTunes sign in is also screwed up... It is underneath my friends email (the one with my backed up data on his Mac laptop) HOW DO I CHANGE THIS SO THAT I CAN DOWNLOAD APP's again...

I suspect unless he had some items in iCloud backup then they are gone.  Connecting an iPhone to a different library from that to which it was previously connected will result in the device asking if you want to erase it.

    so frustrated.

Well its defintiely nothing that Apple can activate to fix this. They would be able to troubleshoot with you though. This may be able to be resolved if its something software related.
