SMTP in problem

I'm testing inbound connections using a port listener software.
all ports are working, only port 25 fail
this is what I use to route inbound connections:
access-list outside_access_in extended permit tcp any host 63.x.y.26 eq 951
access-list outside_access_in extended permit tcp any host 63.x.y.27 eq 952
static (inside,outside) tcp 63.x.y.26 951 192.168.200.2 951 netmask 255.255.255.255
static (inside,outside) tcp 63.x.y.27 952 192.168.200.2 952 netmask 255.255.255.255
using the exact command with port 25 replacing port 951\952 fail.
any reason?
is there a different way of testing SMTP inbound traffic (test environment - no SMTP server)?
which log records will show me what exactly happen to those incoming packets that never show on the port listener?

it is NOT working
first, I had a problem adding these static commands - the first was good (after deleting the previous statics) but the second produced this error:
ERROR: duplicate of existing static

  • Mail SMTP access problems since 10.5.2 update

Since the 10.5.2 update I get an intermittent problem when Mail cannot access my SMTP server (ISP is Be in the UK). I began by complaining to Be. They tell me the problem has only existed since the 10.5.2 update. Their reply to my complaint says: This problem is caused by the recent software update made by Mac and their official statement is as follows "Addresses an issue in which Mail might not send mail on some networks to some SMTP servers."
Anyone got any ideas about this?

    Hi lynjon
Join the club am affraid! I too am with Be and have the same issue. However standard email goes fine it is email with attachments that seems to be the real problem. There are a number of posts on here regarding the issue. I thought be were just passing the buck but it would appear that they are not.

The general concensus seems to be try renaming the attachment you are sending. Hopefully it will be fixed shortly.

Try my method of sending mail using UTL_SMTP package. Of course, it's not my own method (which I created:)), but I use it to send mail with attachment :)

  • SMTP password problem with WRT54G or WRV200

I have a problem sending email in that the SMTP password cannot be successfully sent. I have found that if the router is rebooted, email can be sent for maybe 10 minutes. After that time, the password is refused no matter how many times it is tried. I have tried Thunderbird and Apple Mail as the email client and they both behave the same. I have tried 2 different routers, the WRT54G and WRV200 and they behave the same. I have connected my computer directly to the modem and email can be sent successfully all the time. I am on SBC/AT&T DSL service - it's Yahoo email servers. My computer is a Mac running OX X v10.5 (Leopard). I normally use Thunderbird as my email client and it has worked for some time.

ISP is SBC/AT&T DSL. The email servers are on Yahoo. I am not sure of the question about private/public address of the router. The IP address of the router is assigned by SBC/AT&T - I guess that's public. The firmware of the WRT54G is the latest from your website. I don't really have a Windows computer to give a verdict on whether it happens there. I have tried using the Apple Mail application and it behaves in the same way as the Thunderbird client. Email sending is normal for about 10 minutes after booting the router and then after 10 minutes the sending of the SMTP password fails. Rebooting the router will get you another 10 minutes of successful email sending. As I described bnefore: If I take the router out of my network and connect my computer directly to the DSL modem, then email can be sent at any time. The computer is logging onto the SBC/AT&T network PPPoE with no router involved. Of course, I do not have to change any settings in my email client for this experiment. This proves to me that the email client is working and configured correctly. Keep in mind that this email client has been working correctly for some time (years) in this configuration. I am always able to receive email from the POP server. Message Edited by darowa on 03-16-2008 02:28 PM

  • Same SMTP Relay problem but new reasons. Works with most but not with few

I am writing a mail server. My applications sends mail directly to the SMTP server of recipient using MX Record. I find out the MX Record of the recipients and then using Java Mail send mail to that MX Record. This application is working fine and it has worked for thousand or so SMTP Server successfully.
There are couple of servers (SMTP of recipients) those reject the mail saying SMTP Relaying Prohibited by the Administrator and further says Invalid Mail Address Destination. I am wondering that the recipients belong to that same domain (MX record). I am able to mail them from yahoo or hotmail. I am not trying to use that SMTP for relaying, infact that mail account is registered in that particular SMTP Server. If that server is using SMTP Authentication, how come yahoo or hotmail authenticate for sending mail to their user.
I am sending all genunine parameters like senders mail address etc. I have tried setting various. Can anyone help me where I am missing?

My applications sends mail directly to the SMTPserver of recipient
using MX RecordYou don't send mail to the SMTP server you send it to
    the pop3 server, anyway...
Nopes, you do send mail to the POP3 server. POP (Post Office Protocol) is used for fetching mails. Se RFC 1939 http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1939.html for more detailed information. Usually the mail agent contacts the local SMTP server and it queues it for delivery to other SMTP server that it can find via the MX record, trying the one with the highest priority first which incendently is the one with the lowest number.
If that server is using SMTP Authentication, howcome yahoo or
hotmail authenticate for sending mail to theiruser.
Hotmails' SMTP server will let you send to anybody,
most other private SMTP servers generally will
restrict the domains you can send to.
I'm a little confused as to what your problem is you
are connection to SMTP servers to send individuals
emails? why not just use on SMTP server to send to all
He is making a SMTP server.
    Back to the original question:
Since you are checking the MX record for the address it should not be considered to be a relay of mail. The only reason this should happen is if the RCPT is set to something wierd like
<@HOSTA.ARPA,@HOSTB.ARPA:[email protected]>See RFC 0821 for more information. I am not sure if RFC 0821 is obsoleted, but this should still apply.

  • Mail SMTP port problems.

    This is driving me nuts.
Send an email, it fails and Mail pops up a question on which SMTP server to use.  I choose "Edit SMTP Server List".
Select "Advanced".  My port is already using "Use Custom Port" set to 25.  Yes, I know that is offered in the default, but it won't work.  I select the default and close.  Try to send the mail and it fails as before.  I then set it back to custom port 25 and it works.  ARRRGHH!!!!
I've deleted and reinstalled the SMTP server multiple times and I get a month or so of peace before this BS starts all over.
This all started when my ISP (Mountain Cable) got bought out by Shaw.  That may be a coincidence or the problem.
    Any ideas?
A solution to this will earn my eternal grattitude and reams of good kharma.

I wish it was just a matter of the right settings in the mail client. However, I was working with another NOC engineer and one of our IP admins for hours, testing every possible setting in Mac Mail, Entourage and Thunderbird. Using SSL, Password authentication, SPA off, port 537, it works on Outlook Express and Thunderbird for Windows. Using the exact same settings, no mail client works on the Mac. That's why we reached the point of creating a custom configuration file on a modem, packet sniffing at each point in the connection and monitoring the SMTP logs... to make sure there wasn't something on our network that was interfering with Mac's that would not affect Windows.
It's not just a matter of getting the mail client settings correct, otherwise the exact same settings that work for OE would work in Entourage, and the exact same settings that work for Thunderbird for Windows would work in Thunderbird for Mac.
Thunderbird for Mac was the most helpful in trying to track this down, because it said that the server did not accept the authentication request. However, the SMTP server shows that no attempt for authentication from a Mac even reached the server, and as far as we can tell, the attempt at password authentication on port 537 never even left the Mac and reached the router or modem, for any mail client used.

  • SMTP authentication problem

I try to send mail with a Javamail client code (you can see the code below), it works fine if the mail server doesn't require SMTP authentication to be relay, but SendFailedException occurs if the mail server security setting is set to SMTP requires authentication (same settings as POP usr/pwd) on the mail server.
I believe it is an issue of SMTP authentication.
How do I code for SMTP authentication with Java Mail API?
    Thanks!

This is one of those error messages that they send application programmers to school for so that they can include error messages that don't tell you what the problem is.
After much trial and error, I discovered that this message is returned if there is an error in the recipient's email address. Perhaps, if it was stored in the address book, it became corrupt. I've found that manually typing in the address (without automatically finishing it from cache) usually fixes the problem. I just spoke to a customer this morning with the same error message, and entering the recipient's email address manually corrected the problem.

  • SMTP BC problem

I'm trying to test inbound email into BPEL but ran into several problems.
The first is a lifecycle exception due to what appears to be a jar problem. This seems to be solved by using this fix: https://open-jbi-components.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=582
Is this component currently stagnant? Doesn't seem to have much new updates.
    Next, this example: https://open-esb.dev.java.net/kb/beta2/60/ep-smtp-bc.html
That example no longer works. Looks like a problem with the BC again. Getting this error in GlassFish during deployment:
startEmailService failed. Email server name: {http://j2ee.netbeans.org/wsdl/SMTPInBound}SMTPInBoundServiceSMTPInBoundPort port: 888

    Thanks in advance.

  • Outgoing SMTP Server problems

    Hi,
I cannot send email from my wireless network, some networks are fine i.e. the apple store, my home, but my work wireless will not let me. Receiving email is fine.
I've connected using an ethernet cable and this does not help either.
I'm currently on port 25 and have checked using passwork for authentication.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I can also vouch for the Loa Powertools app. Its pretty cheap for what it lets you do and it delivers every time. I used to have the same problems sending mail and it was so frustrating trying to configure SMTPs for every location. I've really enjoyed using Loa powertools. Worth every cent.
    check it out: http://www.loapowertools.com/

  • SMTP connection problems in mail with 10.4.7

I have been using Mail with no problems until updating to 10.4.7.
I am with BT Broadband for Business, using their SMTP server. I have checked that the update did not tick the SOCKS option in network preferences, but this remains unticked so is not the problem.
I know for sure that the SMTP settings are correct, and working, as my wife is able to send mail from Outlook on her PC using the same account with no problems.
I had this problem a couple of days ago, and fixed it by installing the latest combo update of 10.4.7. I tried this again as the problem re-occurred out of the blue, but this time applying the update is not fixing the problem.
This only applies to outgoing mail, incoming mail still arrives.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

    Thanks

  • Panasonic C210 camera new smtp server problem

I am getting email notification from verizon about switching from old outgoing.verizon.net to new smtp.verizon.net. But my Panasonic C210 camera stopped sending motion detection emails after I switched to the new smtp setting at port 465 as suggested.
I originally used outgoing.verizon.net at port 587 and it worked great.
    Does anyone have similar problem?
    Thank you.

    Thank you for the reply.
The setting on my camera for old server outgoing.version.net works just fine. But I am getting email notices 3 times alresady, asking to switch to new server. So I guess verizon is closing down the old server soon.
I've switched to new server smtp.verizon.net on all my other devices with no problem at all, including 3 macs, two iPads and 2 iPhones. The camera is the only device that won't take new recommanded setting.

  • E61 SMTP Port problem

I have a E61 since a few days. Unfortunately I cannot configure the SMTP port. Here in the office the port is 2525, but obviously it is only possible to enter 3-digit-numbers in the profile.
Is there a workaround? The confuguration tool is of no use as well...

    Hi,
the only way is to use change the smtp port to 3 digits.I don't know but it can be possible to add a second port number without to remove the port with 3 digits.
I hope it will be help.I have read in the discussion the same problem.Thats was the solution provided.

  • Mail SMTP server problem

My iCloud does not work in Mail in all my apple devices (mobile, Ipad, Mac etc.). It seems that my Apple Mail soft seems to disable my smtp server for outgoing mails (iCloud server, offline). However, I can still receive all incoming mails ...

Have you unchecked the box marked Mail in the iCloud preference pane and then checked it again? If not, please do that now and test.
I've tried what you said, but nothing changes.
I've tried also to sign out completely from iCloud and then sign in. It should rebuild the credentials stored in the Mac, but nothing works.
I post the screen that appears after it fails to send the message.
But on the other hand it works on the iPhone!!! I've unchecked and checked the mail box in the settings and now it works properly!
The problem still persist on the Mac. In other words this is not linked to the iCloud preferences, but on the Mac itself.

  • SMTP Authentication problems

I have a very small Mac OS X server, with about 20 users. I recently had to move the server offsite. The server is up and running just fine, but I am unable to sent mail using simple smtp authentication. I currently have both Login and Clear selected, and using the Apple Mail client (or any other so far) I am unable to send e-mail from the COX @ HOME network.
Is this something COX is blocking?
Here is my postconf -n output. This must be a common problem. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. It seems so simple.

    On your server, modify /etc/postfix/master.cf
    Uncomment this single line:
    #submission inet n - n - - smtpd
    Save, then issue:
    sudo postfix reload
From home, switch your mail client to use port 587 for SMTP.
    This will work through COX.
You mention that others must want to send mail using their corp server, this is the solutions most companies use. Just open alternate ports.
