Socket causes Win2K reboot

Hello there,
I wrote a client program which connects to a server program using socket. The client program communicates with the server first to establish an agreed association and then it will send several data files to the server program. When the server program is running on XP and client is on Win2k, both of them works fine as I expected. But when the server is running on Win2k and the client is on XP. When the association is established and files begin to transfer, the win2k is rebooted. I can't see any exceptions thrown. I looked at the EventViewer of Win2k, there is a savedump event, which is described like this:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.
The bugcheck was: 0x000000d1 (0x023f4d70, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x023f4d70).
Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195].
A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini091102-07.dmp.
I have installed service pack 3 for the Win2k. Can someone tell me where could be the problem?
Thanks a lot.
Bob

  • For Experts: Why does LabView cause System reboot while accessing hardware with driver?

    Hello NI Developers!
I use LabView 7.1 under Windows XP
I have a programm console application which accesses through Jungo Windriver PCI-E board.
This program works fine - and performs DMA data transfer between PC and Board's memory.
In order to implement this console application work together with LabView I did following:
    1) Added this function inside the source:
     _declspec(dllexport) void LVMainFunction(uInt32 *IntValue);
    _declspec(dllexport) void LVMainFunction(uInt32 *IntValue)
        AllocConsole();                   //Open new console window
SetConsoleTitle(L"Debug Window"); //Set a title for console window
freopen("CONOUT$","a+",stdout); //redirec standard output stream to current window so
// so we are able to see "printf" outputs
freopen("CONIN$","a+",stdin);    //redirec standard input stream to current window so
// so we are able pass inputs from keyboard
main();                          //Call applications main function which does all the work
    2) Compiled this new source as DLL library
    3) Call  LVMainFunction(...) function from LabView using Call Library Node
In the result: Executing VI - opens new console window, shows debug outputs and receives keyboard inputs.
It works fine till the last function, which perform DMA data transfer - and reboots PC.
    1) Why does this happen?
    2) I understand that opening console from Call Library Node, attaches together this console window and running VI. So If I close one of them - both windows closes.
So does LabView have somekind of restrictions of accessing Hardware's functions?
I can read Board's resource information and view size of memory on board, interrupt functions and other information about device, but when I try to reach
DMA my system reboots. And I understand that this should be some kind of LabView problem, cause I tried different implementations, even without use of
console window - and the result is the same.
    3) Should I split the program in to two separate processes and perform data exchange using Sockets or Pipes techology?
    Thank you in advance!

    Hello!
    At LAST!!!
    I solved this problem!
From the beginning I was following National Instruments manual on how to build DLL with external IDE:
      http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361A-01/lvhowto/building_library_project/
Set the Struct member alignment control to 1 Byte.
Now this option caused my PC to reboot!
So could someone explain  why this happened? and If it is a bad tip, so it's better to remove from manual. Then other people will not have such problems as I did
    - wasting 2 monthes of time determining the problem.
I changed it to  Set the Struct member alignment control to DEFAULT.
    and now everything works fine.

  • After ICS update, WiFi widget causes phone reboot

After installing the ICS update on my Xperia PRO USA unlocked model via PC Companion... when I turn off WiFi using the widget, it does so - it turns it off. When I use the widget again to turn WiFi back on, it causes my phone to reboot.
I don't seem to have this problem if I turn WiFi on and off inside the WiFi settings area. But using the widget is now broken for me.
    Anyone else?

  • WPS button press causing full reboot

Since the firmware upgrade I've had the same issues as most others with the repeated wifi drop outs.  This has been resolved with the rolled out patch.
However, I use a Samsung printer connected via WPS. This has always worked well.
Since the upgraded firmware the WPS no longer works and when I press the WPS button on the HomeHub 5 it causes a full reboot following the end of the 2 minute waiting period. This is independent of whether I have tried to connect the samsung or not.
Anyone else having this issue? Any ideas how to fix?

  • ITunes causes random reboot

Ever since I built my new machine, iTunes has caused my computer to reboot. I can play music in other ways without getting a reboot (e.g. internet radio through pandora.com). I can also play memory demanding video games(e.g. FEAR, Supreme Commander) for hours without any reboot. Is this a hardware problem, or something else? Opening iTunes is fine, it is just while I'm trying to play music. After anywhere from 0-45 minutes, the computer will reboot. I have experienced no other problems with my machine while not playing music with iTunes. Any ideas?
    Some specs:
    Motherboard: DFI Infinity 975 X/G
    Processor: Core 2 Duo E6600
    Video Card: ATI x1900xt

I was posting on other forums as well, and a guy at www.windowsforum.org had the solution. If you uninstall Quicktime, and then install it with the standalone quicktime installer, it should work. It's a problem with quicktime when it is installed with the itunes installer.

  • Inserting music cd when itunes is open causes instant reboot

When itunes is open and I insert a music cd with .cda files on it the computer instantly reboots. It reads and plays back the files fine on other players, but obviously this is no helpful if I want to import into the itunes library.
I found some posts with similar problems but no solutions posted. Any ideas? Please let me know if I can supply some more info to help find the solution.
BTW I upgraded the itunes today, but problem remains.

I see it's been a while and nobody responded.  Did you find the solution? On laptops, most have settings that will tell it what to do when the lid is closed.Options are often 'do nothing', 'hibernate', 'shut down', etc.You might look into that. I found this because I was searching to see how to connect to a pc with LogMeIn Rescue when the pc is listed as offline.  I found this happens when the pc is sleeping. Good luck,

  • Deletion of Policy caused PC reboots???

I was going through our policies and deleted an old one that wasn't needed anymore. I did not disable it or remove the association, I just deleted it.
About 10 minutes later. we started getting calls that systems were rebooting " A Zenworks Policy has been updated" The policy dealt with the NAL window.
Is it common that deleting / policy update would cause a PC to reboot?

  • Can a faulty master socket cause linkdead / dropou...

I'm connecting to a Dark Age of Camelot server in the US (206.112.64.6) on BT Infiinity and my accounts are going linkdead every 3-5 minutes (when local game client loses connection with the server). This has been happening since I noticed that the cable to our master socket is threadbare and thee are individual wires poking out of the back of the socket (which is not attached to the wall).
Last time i had this problem, it was a routing issue between me and the server which BT was responsible for causing, but that was 8 months ago.
What can I do to remedy this. Below is a trace to the destination server. Web browing seems unaffected, as is Skype and Ventrillo (VOIP)

I'm not decorating my house in lead emulsion No problems with wireless connectivity since the week-long problem that BT caused back in March or whenever it was and since them my connections been solid. Like I said, it doesnt affect VOIP connections (I game while using Ventrilo) which may or may not be less sensetive to a temporary loss of connectivity.
if BT want to move my socket somewhere more appropriate then fine. Not many people people i'd imaging have a computer in the front hallway of their house, next to the front door. besides, what's the point of providing a wireless router if not for convenience
Either its a BT socket problem (inside the box are 2-3 loose wires not connected to anything) or its a wider network problem between me and the server.

  • Why does quicktime 7 cause a reboot of windows xp when playing a .mov?

How come quicktime 6 works fine and plays my .mov files and allows me to transfer video from my digital camera whereas quicktime 7 causes a system reboot and i cant watch my videos? with quicktime 7 opening the folder containing the .mov or clicking on the .mov causes the screen to become black with blue characters on it that are not letters or numbers. then the bios screen comes up, eventually bringing me back to the desktop.
id be perfectly happy using quicktime 6 on my computer since it works great, however after i uninstalled quicktime 7 and reinstalled 6 i found out that i need quicktime 7 for my itunes. what do i do?
    please help me.

that did not work, nor did changing quicktime into safe mod.
what is the difference between quicktime 6 and quicktime 7 such that 7 will cause windows to reboot after the weird black screen with blue nonsense (not letters or numbers) on it everytime i try to play an .mov file?
can i revert to a version of itunes that will allow me to used quicktime 6 without any negative effects to my current setup on itunes 7?
please help, this is very frustrating.

  • My Wacky iMac - EVERYTHING causes a reboot!

Well, maybe not quite everything; I can get online. BUT:
Adjusting the volume with the keyboard
Opening the combo drive with the keyboard

and a host of other things all cause the machine to reboot. We have 10.2.8 on the thing; I've tried to reinstall it, but, of course, every time I open the optical drive, blammo, instant reboot. Once the I've re-logged in, though, the drive doesn't seem to read the CD.
Ideas? I have an external optical drive that I might be able to read a CD with - can I reinstall the OS with an external drive?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Before we make some suggestions could you please confirm whether the iMac actually powers off instantly and then restarts, or
whether the screen wipes down grey and then tells you that you must restart (Kernel Panic).
Was the iMac connected to the Mains when you had that power outage?
    Thanks.

  • N8 Music Player causes phone reboot?

Has anyone experienced this? When I am listening to the music player with my headphones (just standard headphones, not the included mic/controller headset) and the phone is locked in idle state, sometime it will just spontaneously reboot. The music stops and 5 seconds later the phone restarts.
It could happen after an hour of listening or 10 minutes. No specific time or anything like that. Just a spontaneous reboot. This is highly reproducible given enough listening. At some point during the day, if I am listening to music for some extended period of time, it will happen.
How crazy is it that this elementary smartphone function doesn't work reliably?

I normally just connect phone as an external hard drive, create a folder in E and name it Music, then just drag and drop my music into that folder, but run albums through Windows Media Player first and check album info (right click on Album icon in WMP) then safely remove phone and refresh music player, and it all works fine !
