Solution Manager & Workflow driven Transport Mangement

Dear SDN Members,
I would like to know if it is possible to use a workflow drivene TMS within the Solution Manager 3.2 using serveral approval steps. For instance an approval between DEV and QAS and an approval between QAS and PRD.
We would like to implement the workflow for our 4 system R/3 landscape, 3 system BW and XI landscape.
Regards,
Niek Weustink

Hi Mrutyunjay,
As far as I know, you can only attach one CTS project per Solution Manager Project.
The idea is that for each different project you have for your satellite systems you´ll have to have one Solution Manager project.
This way you can use the features on Solution Manager side to control all changes ( for instance, using Change Request Management ).
Part of the CTS functionalities that we have on standard SAP installations are being migrated to Solution Manager controls.
So, you can have as many CTS projects you need on your ECC as long as you have their correspondent Solution Manager projects.
Based on ITIL standards, Solution Manager is the central point to control all changes you make in your systems.

Valdecir

• Solution Manager Workflow problem

Hi,
I am triggerring a workflow for support message creation in transaction crmd_bus2000116 in solution manager. It been assigned to a particular agents by using a customized workflow . I am facing two problems...
1. The person to whom I am assigning the workitem, if he simply displays it , then workitem is getting deleted. But I need to be there for particular period of time and then if he is not changed it then only it should get deleted from his SAP Inbox.
2. If he changes means I should trigger an another event , which will call the same workflow in the next event, In this case how can I check the event getting called .....currently I am using an status flag to do so....
Cheers,
Sabari.

Sabari,
1. You should use an asynchronous task with the Changed event as the terminating event to create the WI. The WI will then stay in the inbox until the changed event is triggered. You will have to use modeled deadlines in order to remove the WI or end the workflow after a specified time. You can look in the online documentation for more information on terminating events and modeled deadlines.
2) There is no need to check for the changed event. You can have the next step follow after the first step ends with the terminating event.
Cheers,
Ramki.

• Solution Manager Workflow

I would like to know if there is any standard workflow template available in Solution manager for Change request management. My requirement is to trigger a workflow when the status of the change request is made to Assigned. I have to send a workitem to a the approver and he changes the status to the next status and then the workflow should send a workitem to next approver and so on. We have two options to do this
1. One is using the status management(BSVW).
2. Using Action profiles(similar to one in CRM).
I would like to know which one is the best option to use for custom workflow development. Please advice.

Hi,
We have two options to do this
1. One is using the status management(BSVW).
2. Using Action profiles(similar to one in CRM).
Use any of these options to trigger the event.
One the event triggering in SWEL, then mapped your workflow to it.
Can you tell which BO you are using?

• Solution Manager/Charm and Transport Dependency Check

Hello Everyone,
I apologize if this question has an obvious answer. I have searched SDN and could not get a 100% answer.
We are just now in the process of rolling out Charm/Solution Manager and I have noticed that it appears to not perform transport dependency checks. For example, let's say I am working on object ABC and have completed my testing (ready for transport to production) and then another developer also starts development on object ABC. When my change is moved to production, it will pick up the other developers modifications without giving a warning or an error that a dependency has been encountered between the two transport requests.
Does Charm/Solution Manager offer the option of producing a warning should a transport depedency be identified? If so, will someone explain (or point me to the appropriate documentation) how this can be set up?
Best Regards,
Scott

Hi Scott,
ChaRM supports imports from DEV->QAS->PRD by transport by transport requests level not by transport request task level. So don't worry(i.e., You can't import only your change of object ABC to production. It allows to import your change and other user's change of object ABC together to production).
This is how it works(if more than an user works on the same object):
1. Requester creates a support message from satelitte system to report a problem.
2. Service desk employee creates a change document because some changes need to be done on object ABC to correct that reported problem.
3. Change Manager approves the change document. So a normal correction is created automatically.
4. This normal correction is assigned to 2 developers(your scenario) like for an example DVPR1 and DVPR2.
5. DVPR1 creates a transport request and does some changes on object ABC. So a transport task will be created for DVPR1 under that transport request automatically.
6. When DVPR2 tries to do some changes on the same object ABC, a seperate transport task(not a transport request) will be created for DVPR2 under the same transport request because the object ABC is locked under the transport request. So DVPR2 can't create a separate transport request for the same object if any transport request is pending(not released).
7. Now object ABC will have one transport request. That transport request will have 2 transport tasks(1 for DVPR1 and 1 for DVPR2).
8. Each developer relases their transport task only(not transport request) once he/she completes his/her change on the object ABC.
9. DVPR1 or DVPR2 will change the status of normal correction to "Development Completed".
10. Now, IT operator or DVPR1 or DVPR2 can release the transport request. The transport request can be released only if all tasks are released under the same transport request.
(In this example: DVPR1 completed his change and released his transport task. Next DVPR2 completed and released his transport task).
11. Finally IT operator import the transport request to QAS and PRD.
Hope you are clear now. Let me know if you have any doubts.

Sanjai

• Doubt in Solution Manager Workflow

Hi all
I have created one workflow for support disk. I used BUS2000116 business object. Before that i created Z business object for BUS2000116. Bcos i need to include events and methods (Customization). So i created ZB2000116. After that i selected delegate.
My doubt is when i creating workflow (in Task) in SWDD, which business object i can use ZB2000116 or BUS2000116..
Can i use BUS2000116 ?

Hi,
I always use the standard object. So if SAP changes any method or attribute I will have the latest version, and I don't have to do these changes myself.
Because you delegated the subtype you can use the standard object.

Martin

• Solution Manager best practices about environments

Hello,
we intend to use Solution Manager 4.0.
My question : I wonder whether we need to have a single instance a SM (production) or whether we need to have multiple instances (one development SM where developments and customizing will be performed and one production SM populated with transport requests coming from the development SM) ?
What are the best practices ?
Thank you.
Regards,
Fabrice

Dear Fabrice,
In principle you donot need to have 2 instances of Solution Manager. 1 Instance is sufficient enough for monitoring all the Satellite Systems.
However if you intending to have Customized ABAP on Solution Manager then it might be a good idea to do so in an different client in the same instance keeping the client as an development client.
Most of the customizing in Solution Manager is non transportable hence it should be directly done in the productive client.
Hope this answers your queries.
Regards
Amit

1. Please activate the Landscape fetch job for RSGET_SMSY from SPROSolution ManagerBasic Settings-- Schedule Bgd jobs.
> No RFC connection for system CIA client '000'
Please maintain a connection from solution manager to the transport domain system . I belive this is CIA.

Recheck the transport configurations.

• How to allocate the workflow to the action defnitions in solution manager

Hi,
we are having solution manager with the CHARM configured, and currently we are looking for the trigger of mail and workitem for change of action. the work flow is designed for that, but how to assign the workflow to the condition and processing type .
please suggest, points are definetly awarded.
Thanks and regards

Hi,
Well, why dont you check the event that gets triggered during the Status change of the user?
This can be done by switching on the EVENT TRACE using SWELS txn and simulate the BUSINESS PROCESS and then check the event trace using SWEL.
After getting the required Business Object and event, Please attach your WF to that EVENT in the BASIC DATA-START EVENTS.

• Transport Management in SOlution Manager

Hello All,
We are currently running a Conf. Room Pilot for our customer. As part of the CRP, the customer has created a new template project in Solman and have also a created a new sandbox as a copy of their production for the CRP where we have got full access.
The customer wants us to use SAP transport management functionality in Solman where all transports & changes made in the sandbox can be tracked and they can be moved to their production if required using solution manager.
Now customer doesnot want to configure ChaRM.
Two possiblities I see are
1. Create an IMG project in Sandbox system through Solution Manager and in the Sandbox systems' project activate CTS functionality. Give TR Create authorization to team members with restriction of assignment to CTS project only. (Dis-allow TR creation w/o CTS project assignment in Sandbox)
2. Activate Change Request Management (ChaRM ) in the template project with only CTS functionality (No other functionality of ChaRM is useful here). At the moment I am not sure if this will be allowed.
please let me know, how do I restrict creation of TR without assigning to CTS?
Regards,
Shyam

Any answer to this?

• Manage transports (without ChaRM) in Solution Manager?

Hi,
How do I manage transports in target systems (ECC, APO, etc.) using Solution Manager. We have the Dev systems (ECC, APO) connected using RFC to Solution Manager. Configuration (SOLAR02) will be done using Solution Manager. So the question is - how do we manage transports (without ChaRM being present) using Solution Manager?
Any suggestions/recommendations? I would greatly appreciate any feedback.
Edited by: GiveMeFood on Sep 22, 2011 10:05 PM

Hi,
One of the main features available with the Solution Manager is ChaRM. It has been introduced to basically deal with the diverse transports management and related control framework over the SAP lanscape. Having a Solution Manager and not using ChaRM defeats the purpose of installing a Solution Manager in the first place. A better approach would be to incorporate the features provided by the system.
In my opinion - you should configure ChaRM, else it would not make sense to have the SolMan in the landscape. You would start using one of the features which you already have !

• BPM, Solution Manager, XI and Workflow

Hello all,
I read that in XI/P, BPM uses the Workflow engine.
I also heard about the BPM in Solution Manager.
What is the difference between BPM in Solution Manager and BPM in Workflow? Do both systems use the old Workflow engine?

• Can we create a workflow in Solution Manager ?

Hi Friends,
Actually I have a requirement to create a workflow in solution manager.
The requirement is to create a wf for issue log. As soon as a new issue (support message) is created then the wf should get triggered and send out a mail to the resp. person. It just a sending a mail between issue created and responsible person. Can anyone please let me know if we create a wf in Solman or not ? If so please provide me some related buss. obj for that. thanks
Grateful to your help.
Srithan

If you want to Place certain actions after status change of a transaction, it's better to do this with an action profile and a condition for that action:
In Solman check SPRO path:
CRM>Transactions>Basic settings-->Define transaction types
In this activity double click the transaction type to find out what the action profile is:
Now go to:
CRM>Basic functions>Actions>Actions in transactions>Change actions and conditions-->Define action profiles and actions
Here you can add an action definition on the action profile, this can be methods, workflow or in your case a smartform mail.
If the action profile is a SAP standard (doesn't begin with Z) it is advisable to copy the standard. Also, this is more of a CRM/Solman consultant issue, so you may have to involve such a consultant
Now go to
CRM>Basic functions>Actions>Actions in transactions>Change actions and conditions-->Define Conditions
Here you can add conditions which will cause the action to be executed.
Kind regards, Rob Dielemans

Sorry Raguraman,
I am unable to check those tcodes as I havenot got the authorizations for those. after several mails I got some basic wf developer tcode access. I am not sure whether I have to create a new workflow for this or I can go with some built-in technology to send mail when a new message (tcode: stwb_work) is created.
can raguraman or anyone please help me on doing this ?
if the solman has provided the standard for sending mails when a new message is created/changed to the responsible person.
grateful for your help
