[Solved] Dead Pixels GE70

Would like to know if warranty covers dead pixels? I have one blue dot on my GE70 screen. Laptop is still quite new.

Well first you need to know what pixels are.  You got 3 different types.  Stuck,  dead,  and hot pixels.
A dead pixel is always off,  there easy to spot against a white background.
A hot pixel is always on.  They are mainly very bright white pixels and are easy to spot against dark backgrounds.
A stuck pixel is mainly blue,  yellow,  green or red but sometimes a light dark.
Stuck pixels can be fixed most of the time.  There's several ways to do this.
1) use a program that quickly flashes different backgrounds in various colors. Try using  jscreenfix or something similar. (sometime it can take a few hours of continuous flashing the screen)
2) rub it uusing a stylish and a damp paper towel,  apply a gentle pressure over the effected area.
3) tap it.  Cover something up and rapidly tap the pixel.
(option 2 and 3 can have obvious risks,  so be careful)
Thanks for the suggestion mate! My pixel is blue so it's probably a stuck pixel. Gonna try your suggestions after this.

  • Lenovo G460 - dead pixel, LCD can't be waken up from sleep/ hibernation , very hard to use Touchpad

I got this unit as my birthday present last week. I was very happy about it, as i've been using Dell laptops for the past 6 years of my life, this is the very first time in my life that i'm getting a Lenovo laptop, and i gotta say i'm very disappointed. Friends around me saw me carrying a new Lenovo and they all went " oh my god, that's Lenovo leh !!!", and now i must say "it's no big deal, it's only Lenovo".
after i got this laptop as a present, i'd been quite busy with work and didnt even play with it much. But when i first got my hands on this laptop, i found the touchpad is the hardest one i have ever used in my life. i dont know if it's me or the touchpad itself. Sometimes, the right click doesnt work or the pointer just stalls on the screen for a few seconds no matter how hard i try to move it. Ok, i said it to myself, fine, maybe i got too used to Dell's touchpad, this is a laptop of higher end/ bigger name and it's too hard for me to use. i could get myself an optical mouse. But the nightmare is just about to start !!!
It's labour's day, i got 3 days off work and i started playing this new laptop. After playing around with it for half a day, i left it for shower. After i returned, the display turned off. I tried every way to wake it up and they all went in vain, only a hard power off would do the job. I got online, searched the forum and found that many other users were having the same problem as i had. Ok, read that a BIOS update would solve the problem, though it's not available now. I can be patient and not a crazy **bleep** complaining about it.
just the next day, i woke up from bed, turned on the laptop, as windows 7 was starting up, i suddenly noticed there was a **bleep** dead pixel !!!!! it's so tiny that it could be so hard to see, if it wasnt windows 7 startup screen (all black with some colorful animation at the center) i wouldnt have noticed it !!! I googled on G460 having dead pixel, oh my, i'm certainly not alone !!!
Now that i have sold off my old dell laptop, and had everything set up in this new laptop, and it seems that i need to return this laptop, and certainly i'll have to live my life without a laptop for the next few weeks. I gotta say it again, i'm very disappointed in Lenovo !!!
Now please let me know how do i return this laptop for repair or whatever you call it, as i work on weekdays in singapore and return to malaysia only on weekends, and this laptop was bought in Malaysia. looks like i gotta take a day off just to send this laptop back to lenovo..........what a big let down.
have had so many Dell laptopsand  never had a single tiny problem with them......

I'm banging my head because I can't find a solution to make my arch-install detect an audio CD
I assume that you mean the optical drive. I don't see a /dev/sr0 in /dev
Does it show up with lsblk or parted -l?
Looks like it's a LiteOn drive.
You can play an audio CD.
    mplayer cdda://
    mpv cdda://track[−endtrack][:speed][/device] −−cdrom−device=PATH
An audio CD doesn't have a mountable file system on it.

  • Dead Pixel Agony

    Hello Peeps,
I just received T520 package today and my excitement suddenly turned to grief when I saw a bright glowing red dot on my screen. OMG... a dead pixel right out of the box! Did I just drop my hard earned grand that I have been saving for months on something that would bug me for the rest of the products life?
I quickly searched Lenovo's dead pixel policy and almost fainted when I found out the unit has to have at least 3 dead pixels to be considered for replacement noooooooo...wahhhh....boohohoho..sob
Why did they ship out a unit with dead pixel??? I'm pretty sure it was NOT missed by QA because it glows like a laser beam in the dark and a dead pixel would not develop while in transit!
I'm going to contact Lenovo post sales tomorrow and really hoping something can be done. I know some of you will consider this as another guy who got a dead pixel rant, but man, when someone spend this amount of cash, and I'm not rich, I would at least expect to receive a non-defective product. Oh Lordy, I should have trusted my instinct and buy something of this value in a brick and mortar store. Hoping for the best but this night would not be a pleasant one.
    Sigh,
    Jason

    Update #1:
So I called Lenovo After Sales and was given a Case# so I can return the unit for a full refund. That process went smoothly so props for Lenovo on that regard. Since I got a boost of confidence with Lenovo's customer service and also I really liked how the T520 keyboard feels like in my brief experience with the product, I went ahead and ordered a new one, not waiting for the refund on my other card which I calculated would take at the minimum of two weeks. Crossing my fingers that I would get a dead/stuck pixel free display this time.

  • Dead Pixel 920 Camera

I have a dead pixel. It is not a dead pixel on my screen, but in my camera. I have one dead (purplish/blue pixel)  that I noticed on an accidental black picture that I took. Basically, if you cover the lens and make an all black photo, you can zoom in and scan the pic for dead pixels. I found one on accident and now it's just going to annoy me.
Is this covered under a warranty? Should my carrier replace it? It's a big deal to me, with as many pictures as I take, but I don't know if it will be as big of a deal to them.
I'll attach the photo with the dead pixel. See if you can find it!
EDIT: I uploaded a second picture, circling the pixel in red.

Hello friend , I'm sorry to say that you'll have some time dealing with employees who's gonna try hard not to fix your problem ,
but Follow these steps and hopefully a new replacement phone shall be yours.
reset the phone and take a photo (if the problem is still there and it most likely would) you've got the argument that it's not software related so if they anyone said we're gonna fix it tell them it's not software and that you demand a non defective unit.
Now you call the store you bought it from and demand a replacement as your unit is defective , If they refused or gave you a hard time , Tweet about it to @Nokiacare , Politness is key for these type of things so try to be as calm and happy about it as possible , mention the fact that you switched from Apple and insist that you bought in the PureView brand, If the Store didn't respond to you NokiaCare locations can be found on this website and again you could ask them for a replacement , If for any reason you failed in all these steps .
feel free to write the complete story and tweet the hell of it (users will help you too )
I hope you get a new one , good night .

    Hi,
    Please check the following policy:

You can contact the store where you purchased and ask for a swap.

  • Lenovo G550 Dead Pixels

Hi i am starting to get a dead pixels issue there 3 already. I am still under warrenty does the policy mean 3 or more or just more then 3. Also do i have to sent it abroad for repair i use the laptop everyday so sending it will be problematic.
Also i have no recovery partition i have the recovery discs so i can re-instate the onekey recovery.
Not sure if this void the warranty at all.
Any advice would be gratefully recieved.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

i suggest you to contact lenovo support line for dead pixel pixel issue. ( warranty may cover )
recovery partitions are hidden, so you can't see the partition unless some error occurs.
i didn't understand what your question is, creating recovery dvds or recovering system using disc?
actually, answer is yes for both.

  • ONE DEAD PIXEL ACCEPTABLE?

i have one dead pixel in my right top corner you cant stee unless everything around there is lit up, but when it gets dark like in the sliding menu you can see it...is this acceptable and will it get worse as in more dead pixels later on?
    Solved!

It's always annoying, but I am not sure of Nokias policy on dead pixles. I had dead pixles on my computers before, but never on a cellphone. I had one on the Dell laptop I am using now. It was dead from the beginning, but after 2 months it dissapeard. Now the screen is perfect.
I have read a lot of posts on other forums about pixle massage and programs to get the pixle back, but as I have understood, it's a difference between a dead pixle and a stuck pixle.
If nobody can answer you on this, I would use the contact link and ask about it, or take it to a carepoint. But as i mentioned, I don't know what the policy is on that issue is.
Personal opinion - the screen is small and it's annoying. It should be covered by warranty and get replaced.

  • Dead Pixel policy for T410s

I called up the technical support, and they told me that I need to have at least 9 dead pixels. But later on when I checked the customer support website, it said that I need only 3 dead pixel. here
Currently my laptop has exactly 3 dead pixels (black color).
Does anyone knows whether Lenovo changed their dead pixel policy from 3 to 9 pixels for an exchange?

Have you tried an app like UDPixel to try and unstick the pixels?   Though yeah if you can tell tech support the document which you found the information in you should be able to get the panel replaced.

  • Dead Center Dead Pixel

I have owned my 30" monitor for a little over a month. however when I went to show it off a bit and played a DVD, one dead pixel almost dead center. It is amazing on how such a small thing can make a huge difference. The pixel seems it largest when you start a power point show or i-movie presentation ( black screen with one little white dot) I wish I noticed it earlier. It really is most apparent when there is a lot of black on the screen.
Does anyone know any steps I can take to resolve this issue? I tried rubbing it, flashing red green and blue. Do I have a case to return it? Any apple care issues?
    Thanks for all your help

PS with all this said I am very grateful to own such a beautiful piece of hardware.

I have the same issue, except my pixel is just a little off center. I went through hardware tests, software tests with Apple over the phone. After a total of 1.5 hours of troubleshooting, we came to the conclusion that I may have to live with my bad pixel.

I have a pixel error on my screen. Doesn't go away with re-install of software, performed hardware check - no problems. Tried creating new user, same problem.

    Jason:
    correct

    Jason:
so, this article says that if I have just a few pixels that are not working correctly, than those imperfections are considered acceptable? and a replacement or repair is not covered under the warranty?

There may be a charge for the evaluation. but if found as hardware then the repair is surely covered by Apple

  • IPhone dead pixels?

I recently got my iPhone's screen changed after I noticed a huge amount of dead grey pixels growing near the bottom. After being replaced, it was good as new. A couple of months later and I noticed a few grey pixels at the top and they grew longer and wider by the day. At this point, I can only see half of the time and my carrier. I sent in my iPhone once more and they told me they switched my LCD, and I have payed for it as well as I no longer have a warranty but I can still see the dead pixels near the top. The first time was succesful, why not now? I'm starting to doubt the fact that they changed my LCD. Can anyone please tell me if the pixels would remain even after changing an LCD? It seems highly unlikely. Please help me as I still have the reciept and would need to take action immediately.

how can I identify stuck pixels with a magnifying glass?
You can't, but you can identify dust.

There truelly isnt any way to fix that problem unless you send it into apple or get a third party to service your ipod. First, just make sure taht the ipod truelly has a dead pixil.
Restart your ipod (hold middle button and menu button till it goes blank) Then IMMEDIETLY hold the middle button and the previous arrow button. this will bring you into diagnostic mode. Press menu to go into manual test and select IO from the menu button. From there select display. Proceed to select color. What this will do is test the three colors that make up a triad. which are blue red and green. It will also do different shades and so forth of the color. If you notice that the pixel is only dead in one color then you might want to just try restoring your ipod to factory defults. This probably wont solve the problem, but it is worth a shot. If the pixel is completely dead in all three colors, then you do have dead pixels. The only way to fix that problem is have it serviced.
Apple should take the ipod no matter what. If you ahve the warrenty. Just call them up and say you have dead pixels on the display of your ipod. THey should repair it without cost that is if you have it under apple care plan.
    Hope this helps..
    Jeff

  • Dark spot (not sure if it is a dead pixel).

I have a dark spot in my menu bar. I'm not sure if it is a dead pixel... it almost look like if there is dust inside my screen. Do you have something to recommend to take it away?

If you have not already solved your monitors problem, you can try PiXel Check, to see if you have any dead or stuck pixels.
