[SOLVED] MythTV multiple frontends questions

I'm on a MythTV kick right now.
I set up a backend server, and have 2 frontends. I'm getting the hang of it, but I have a few questions...
First, here is the wild plan I have in mind right now. I would like to run my backend that will hold the database and all my movies/recorded shows. I want to be able to connect to it from two frontends over my LAN, and would like to have up to 4 more frontends connecting over the internet (for family to be able to access).
I read in the mythtv wiki that if you have multiple frontends you might want to run multiple databases so each user can have their own look and feel. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it worth it? Won't every user have to update things like videos (mythvideo plugin) and IMDB info on their own? I want to make it as easy as possible for me to administer for a rather computer illiterate family.
If I kept everything in one database the other frontends would lose their customizations, right? But it should be easier for me to administer, I could update the video list and all the IMDB info so the users wouldn't have to worry about it. But how would I lock them out from accidentally changing settings or deleting things? Let them connect to the database with a less privileged user? Won't that give a lot of error messages?
Also, right now I don't have a tuner, and don't plan to get one any time soon. Is there a way to get rid of the error message when I start "mythtv" on my frontend that says the program list wasn't found? I think thats what the error was, I look again when I get home. But I have to use "mythfrontend" instead when I want to use my frontends because of that error.

Ok, I went with the one db idea. The PIN isn't good enough for what I want. It will keep a user from changing some settings but they can still get to the video settings and change / delete the metadata.
The solution I came up with is to make another user, I named it 'unpriv' and give them no privileges at the user level, and just create and index at the DB level, then the rest of the permissions at the table level. Then just revoke update and insert permissions for user 'unpriv' at the table level for the videometadata tables. This way, anyone who logs in with 'unpriv' won't be able to change the videometadata. And mythtv doesn't give any error messages when it can't write to these tables. So it works like a charm in my situation.

Multiple Choice Question Issues

I am embedding a quiz within my presentation with individual
question slides interspersed throughout the presentation. These
questions are pulled from a couple of different question pools. I
want to use a multiple choice question that branches to different
parts of the presentation depending on the correct or incorrect
answer. If the user answers the question incorrectly, I send them
to the next slide which has two click boxes. On this slide, they
can either click one box to move back in the presentation and
review the material or click another box to move them forward to
another multiple choice question. If they go back and review the
information, they would eventually return to the same multiple
choice question to try it again. (This is the desired navigation,
anyway.)
What actually happens is that when the user goes back to
review the information and then finally returns to the question,
the question has not been reset and still shows the incorrect
answer marked with no way to clear it.
I have used this same navigation on a drag-and-drop type
question and it works fine. All the settings for the
multiple-choice questions are set the same as in the drag-and-drop
question.
Any help in making this work correctly would be greatly
appreciated.

I can't see where that error might arise except possibly for a case where an AS2 radio is used since it appears they don't have a group property, but an AS3 radio button does. Check to be sure that your Flash Publish Settings are set to use AS3. AS3 errors normally have error numbers which also makes the error you quoted ring of an AS2 scenario.

Multiple choise question, limit number of options

Hi,
we have a multiple choise question with 10 possible answers. 5 is correct, and 5 is not. How can I limit so the user only can check 5 answers? Right now, the user can check all 10 and get full score.

I am relatively new to Captivate (currently using version 7) and have also been looking at this. I have a programming background so have been mucking around with trying to create this using advanced actions so would appreciate some advice if I've gone about it the right way or not.
I have created 4 answers with clickable smart shapes to show whether they are selected/deselected. I have variables to store the number of allowed answers, number of selected answers and question score (which update with the selecting/deselecting of each answer). To keep things simple, I am assigning 1 point for every correct answer selected and only have 2 correct answers. There are 3 separate 'submit' buttons (one worth 0 points and not included in quiz, one worth 1 point included in quiz and one with 2 points included in quiz). Depending on the answers chosen, the relevant submit button will be made visible (and the others hidden).
What I'm having trouble with is that the points from the submit buttons that are included in the quiz are all contributing to the total points available. I want the question to only be worth 2 points but because I have two buttons (one worth 1 and one worth 2) that means the total points available for the quiz is 3.
Any help on where to go from here much appreciated.

Creating Multiple Response Questions.....

The reason I am interested in capturing the user answers in Submit All situation is that I know after I published the test using SCORM 2004, all the user responses were captured in "cmi.suspend_data" because my test can resume the test to the last exit question in the middle. However, when I looked at the suspend data value, I have a hard time to understand the pattern and pick out the meaningful user question responses data. I really need help from you to understand how the suspend data value was constructed and how to parse this data. Another area I thought it's easy to get the user question responses data is the interaction records, but I always got only one question (the last randomly sampled question) interaction record. See the following generated XML SCORM 2004 4th edition data. Could you help me figure out how to interpret the following suspend data to get the users responses to each test question? [Solved] Mythtv audio capture woes

OK I admit it, after a week or so fighting with this, I'm stuck.
This is the last showstopper before using my mythbox as the primary entertainment source to my TV and would very much appreciate any help.
I'm running mythtv 0.20.2.20070828-2 built from ABS on Arch64 using the stock 2.6.23 kernel. I have a Sound Blaster Live 5.1 (using coax digital out, just to complicate things a bit) and a K-world v-stream xpert DVB-T card with composite/s-video input. My cable box is plugged into the video input and the soundcard line-in. The picture is fine, but the problem is that I cannot get Mythtv to capture the audio from the soundcard at all.
I have set /dev/dsp to be the audio device in mythtv-setup and `cat /dev/dsp > /dev/dsp` does output the audio from the cable box.
Doing an lsof when trying to watch tv:

Doesn't seem to be a permissions issue either as its the same problem running the frontend as root. Searching through forums seems to point the blame at my mixer levels, though I think I've tried every combination!
In alsamixer, under playback, everything muted, under capture Line and Capture are set to capture, Capture and AC97 are set to 100 = No Sound
If I then increase the AC97 playback volume I get the Live TV audio direct from the cable box which is out of sync and not recorded.
No doubt I've missed something really obvious, so please give me a kick in the right direction.

In Utilities/Setup->Setup->General my audio output device was set to ALSA:spdif but I have an /etc/asound.conf file that makes the spdif output the default, so changing the device to ALSA:default solved the problem. I am a happy bunny

How can I ask a multiple sentance question?

Hi. I am a user of Firefox ever since I gave up on Netscape and there are a few features, the lack of which has been frustrating me.
Feature 1: I would like an option on the plug-in manager to disable or enable ad-ons for a specific browsing session. This could be adding "disable" and "enable" options to the current "always," "sometimes," and "never," options that currently exist that will revert to those other options the next time Firefox starts or it could be something else. I would be nice to be able to disable Adobe Flash for the remainder of a session without having to manually reenable it next time I start Firefox.
Feature 2: I am aware of the tab manager but I would like something a bit less complex. When I open so many tabs that they don't fit all at once on my window I would like a scroll bar above the tabs to augment the current clunky navigation options. Having a "fast forward" and "to the end" options in addition to the "forward" button could also solve this problem. (Similarly for the "backward button"). The multiple clicking of the "forward" and "backward" buttons are annoyingly imprecise.
Feature 3: I would like the combined "reload" "stop" button to be split or an option for it to be so. I have sometimes been frustrated when I went to click stop only to have the website stop before I actually clicked the button so now I'm reloading the website which often hinders what I was trying to achieve by clicking on stop (human reaction times being greater than 0). I am also frustrated by having these buttons combined when a website stops and starts multiple times (having a "stop and hold" or a "hold" button which would automatically click the stop button if it becomes active would also be a desirable feature). I also have a preference for keeping these buttons separate for aesthetical and lazy reasons even if it does take up a few more millimeters of my address bar.

Regarding Topic #1:
Firefox supports an optional preferences file named user.js which Firefox reads at startup. The settings in user.js override the changes you make to preferences during your session.
Starting in Firefox 24, I think, Firefox has preferences for how you want each plugin enabled: never, ask, always. So in theory, you could add a line to user.js to always enable Flash, and then if you disable it during your session, the next time you exit and restart Firefox, it should be enabled again. ''I haven't tried this myself.''

To learn the name of the preference, associated with a particular plugin, open the about:config preference editor in a new tab. To do that:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''plugin''.''st''' and pause while the list is filtered. You may or may not see one or more plugin.state.* preferences already.
In a separate tab, open the Add-ons page to the Plugins section. To do that, use either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins.
Change the status of the plugin you want to learn about to "Never Activate". Then switch to the about:config tab and look for the plugin newly set to 0. Click that row to select it for future reference. To confirm that it's the right one, switch back to the add-ons page and set it to "Always Activate". Then switch to the about:config tab and confirm that the selected preference is now set to 2. If it checks out, that's the preference you want to add to your user.js file.
If you experiment with this, please report back on whether it works for you.

How do i create a non-scored multiple answer question?

I've tried to figure out the best way to do this in Captivate 7, but can't find an answer. I hope you can help me out as I'm stuck
I need to create a question with 10 possible answers. They are opinions only---not correct or incorrect.
Kind of like:
"You are going shopping. What do you want to buy?"
1. apples
2. bread
3. milk
4. muffins
5. flour
6. juice
7. pasta
8. dishwashing soap"
etc.
The learner should be able to select none, some, or all and then click submit and advance to next slide, with no feedback given. I do not need to track anything for the LMS.
What should I use to do it? Interaction, Quiz, Survey, or Widget?
I am pretty weak with variables, so hopefully your solution will be simple

Strange... You could have a MCQ that is a survey instead of a graded question (no score automatically) with multiple answers. Delete all the feedback messages and keep the buttons you want, only Submit is really necessary, you decide for the other buttons. But then the user will have to check at least one option. Maybe you can add the option 'I don't know' or 'I cannot choose'? That will be an easy solution.

How can I get multiple likert questions on one slide?

I have 9 questions I want to ask in a Likert survey in Captivate 7.
When I insert a Likert question slide, it defaults to only show 1 question per slide.
I want the learner to see all 9 questions on 1 slide.
Can anyone tell me how to do this?

In Captivate 7, if you select the Likert scale and go to the Quiz Properties tab, under the General tab you can change the Answers from 1 to a higher number and get a nice list of items to go with your disagree to agree list.
That's my relevant to the thread comment and here for posterity to anyone looking for the answer to it.
But I came here because I want a total from the Likert and it doesn't exist during the lesson, since it doesn't report scoring back to the student.
I've been reading your older blogs. Lilibiri, great stuff that makes me wish there were a simpler way in the newer version, but I can't find it. Basically we are creating a question series that becomes a self evaluation checklist, and want to assign the point range to the answers, 1 for disagree up to 5 for Agree, adding up "positive traits".
Was originally thinking of using multiple choice set as a pretest but there's a bunch of variables and actions to write for that, and I saw your post about a simple text entry, which looks more manageable and I'll have to figure that out.
But the simple clean familiar look of the Likert ... I wish there were an easy way to just get those numbers in a total, now that it's in version 7 even. So annoying that it pushes my procrastination button and I don't even want to work on the rest of my lesson!

[SOLVED] mythtv - No picture using Hauppauge pvr-150

Hi All,
I have just set up mythtv but cannot get a live picture using the Hauppauge pvr 150. The card is working (thanks to enrique) and can both stream video and record video either live or in a cron job. I am attaching the cable directly to the card instead of using a digital cable box. This limits the available channels but thats OK since this connection probably won't be used that often.
I don't recall seeing any options specifying whether the cable connection is analog or digital, nor do I recall seeing any options pertaining to the video card. I don't know what I'm doing wrong so any and all tips will be appreciated.

Problem Solved:
The dodo (Me), kept putting the card in as "analog v4l device" which is how myth set it up.
It should be MPEG-2 encoder card (PVR-x50,500).
I just wasn't being careful enough to check all possibilities.
Seems to be working.

Quick Multiple Library Question.

Hi all,
My wife's iPhoto library is hitting 60gigs. Time to split it up. My goal is to keep only this last year (2011) on her laptop and have years 2001-2010 in a separate library on and external HD. Now this library is ten plus years of cropping, adjusting, tagging, organizing and other heavy editing, so I'm trying to find a way to do this without reimporting the originals and modified folders and setting the whole thing back to square one...
My question is this:
Can I duplicate her existing iPhoto library and then just simply rename it?
I'd move the renamed duplicate to the external HD, then she can just delete years 2001-20010 within the library on her laptop and then delete 2011 pics within the external HD one.
That way all her events and folders and edits stay intact, right?

Make sure the external is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Here's one way to do what you want:
1. Quit iPhoto.
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the external drive.
Now you have two full copies of the Library. To choose between them: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
3. On the Internal Library, remove the pics you don't want with you all the time.
Now you have one full library on the external and another smaller sub-set on the Internal.
A couple of comments:
a: Managing Multiple Libraries - including moving pics/albums/rolls and metadata between them - is greatly facilitated by using iPhoto Library Manager
b: When you're removing the unwanted pics from the Internal Library you need to delete them in batches of about 100 or so. Trashing more at one time can cause problems with the database.
c: Remember you need a back up on another disk for that Library on the External.

Quicktime playing multiple videos question

Hello Everyone.
This is probably more of a html/java/flash based question but I thought I would start here as it revolves around the QT Player.

Beneath the player are 3 buttons. When a viewer clicks one of those buttons I want it to load the respective video related to that button into the player without the browser loading a new page. Is this possible?
Can someone steer me the right direction? Or help me out? I'm not even sure how to google search this. I tried Multiple Videos, 1 QT player Web - and I didn't get anything that helped.

I've been having this truly obnoxious problem ever since I installed Lion. Whenever I open a Quicktime video or a preview jpeg (and sometimes a Word document) - the last two or three documents I've viewed in these programs also open.
This is the normal default mode for Lion which now "remembers" what documents (files, movies, images, etc) were opn when you last "Quit" each application.
