[Solved] Network ftp errors

Hello.
After updating Arch a couple weeks back, I was unable to FTP to other local PCs. I do not, and have not ever had internet connectivity through any ethernet means, but recently I have started to use an old ethernet hub to ftp to other computers of mine.
I dual boot Windows. All I have to do is plug in the ethernet hub, and Windows detects it setting up the dhcp address automatically.
In Arch Linux, I had to enter the following command after I plugged the ethernet cable into the router, or the power supply into the router.
/etc/rc.d/network start
Or... if I had been using my USB modem (my only internet means), I unplugged it, and ran this.
/etc/rc.d/network restart
The problem is that after the update, this is the message I'm getting when attempting to prepare to ftp (through gftp).
# /etc/rc.d/network restart
Warning: This functionality is deprecated.
Please refer to /etc/rc.conf on how to define a single wired
connection, or use a utility such as netcfg.
:: Stopping Network [FAIL]
Warning: This functionality is deprecated.
Please refer to /etc/rc.conf on how to define a single wired
connection, or use a utility such as netcfg.
:: Starting Network [BUSY] /etc/rc.d/network: line 68: /sbin/ifconfig: No such file or directory
/etc/rc.d/network: line 76: /sbin/dhcpcd: No such file or directory
Any ideas how I can get FTP functionality back? No, I do not have a set ethernet based internet connection...

The problem is that your Ethernet card has no Internet address
2: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN qlen 1000
link/ether 00:11:85:68:26:5a brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
you wrote:I thought that hub, and router, were interchangeable terms?
Not really, but the terms have become blurred.  Here are my definitions:
A hub is promiscuous.  It copies all traffic on one port to all of the other ports.  All machines on a hub see all traffic for all other machines, and the whole network runs at the speed of the slowest device.  Hubs are cheap.  They are really handy for using sniffing tools because of the promiscuity.
A switch takes note of the addresses attached to a particular port and remembers them for later.  Latter, if it is trying to forward a packet and it knows to which port the destination machine is attached, it will send the packet to that port only without bothering the devices on other ports.  Switches can also usually buffer things to allow different speed devices on different ports.
A router is like a switch, except that it can be programmed with routing information without having to depend solely on discovery;  this allows for things such as port forwarding.  Modern routers often include things like DNS servers, DHCP servers, QoS, NTP, etc... Routers often keep logs as to their operation.
I had asked because I want to understand how your wired adapter might be getting an address.  Since it is a router, it probably has a DHCP server (whereas hubs will not).
Try this (as root):
eth0 up
dhcpcd eth0
Then, see if it works.

  • [solved] Network manager error

I installed network manager as the wiki says, added myself to the network group and added the policy kit file. When I did this process on my main box, it worked perfectly, but on my laptop running largely the same things (except 32 bit not 64) I'm getting a little authentication box whenever my network interface comes up, asking for root's password. I put it in, and it instantly says it disconnected. If I run nm-applet from a terminal, I get this error after typing in root's password:
Gkr-Message: secret service operation failed: The name org.freedesktop.secrets was not provided by any .service files
I'm using xfce if that makes any difference. Anyone got anything I can try?
Oh and the only reason I'm using NM is because I'm sick of wicd deciding HERP DERP IMA DISCONNECT RIGHT NOW and then not connecting again afterwards. Though since NM isn't working I have to use wpa_supplicant and dhcpcd directly myself.
EDIT: Ooops, this is the wrong section Could a mod please move it to Networking?

Now I find gnome-keyring is not installed. That should be made a dependancy for network manager. I also (thanks to that thread) double checked I had the file the wiki said I needed to create, and it turns out I made a typo with my extension. It had .plka instead of .pkla XD Mah bad! So now I just need to get wpa_supplicant to connect one more time and I should be good to go

  • Anyone Solve the FTP Error Message for Firewall??

I have Dreamweaver CC and Mac OS X 10.9.1 Mavericks... Everything is updated, etc. I cannot connect to my server host. The error message I am getting is that my firewall is blocking it but I do not even have my firewall on (terrible I know). I am aware that this is common but I can't find a solution. If someone could point me in that direction, that would be great!
I have been in contact with my hosting company (1and1) and went through all of their trouble shooting issues. I've been pinged back via my IP address, I have everything entered correctly and set up the way it should.
Also if I can't get this up and going does any one recommend an app that works? I was going to try FileZilla but apparently it's full of malware..
Transit 4 looks the best from what I have been reading. Please any one with thoughts on that?
It is frustrating because I expect these programs to work properly and I pay for the most recent ones and they have the same problems release after new release..

Thanks, I have tried that.. Tried restarting my OS too, turning on and off the fire wall. I tried changing passwords. And still no connection.
    FileZilla from this - http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/?source=pdlp
That was the link on my host page I did not know there was another.  I will try that one instead... This is actually the same.. my Mac is saying it's not good for the computer. I can override.
But I would really like to get DW to connect.

  • FTP error- really struggling to solve, please help!? :)

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me...
I am follwoing a tutorial to build my first site with Dreamweaver CS4.  I am completely new to this!  All was going well until the early hours of this morning.  I bought a hosting package with 123.reg to get me started and downloaded filezilla as they recommend.  However, from the site management/edit screen when I go to test I get the following error " An FTP error occurred-cannot open remote folder public_html/.  Access denied.  The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem."  I have checked and checked again, all info is entered correctly.  123.reg initially said the permissions were wrong and they have now changed them.  They said they can see no problems from their end and it should work.  Just out of interest I changed host name from the 'number code' to my domain name (both were options in my welcome hosting email, and this generated a really long error message saying the FTP server might be down etc etc
    All help appreciated,
I feel like pulling my hair out!!
    Thanks,
    Emma

    Well...
This means there is indeed some problem with your server.
Refer to following public forums which talk about this issue:
    http://forum.filezilla-project.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7688
    http://forum.filezilla-project.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8252
Talk to your service provider with this information and hopefully they will rectify things.

  • Can't add users' home folders to Windows Libraries - "unindexed network location" error

I am unable to add our users' home folders to their Windows Libraries on client PCs.  Windows is giving an unindexed network location error.
This worked perfectly fine in WHS 2011, but is failing on WSE 2012 R2 Essentials.
I've checked the indexing settings on the server, and the correct locations are in fact being indexed.
Since several of our clients have limited local storage, I can't solve this by turning on Offline Files.
Is this behavior by design, or am I seeing a bug?
I'm guessing that on WHS 2011 the user folders are special-cased somehow, as normally one would need to include the share root in a library for federated indexing to work correctly.  What is it about WHS 2011 that makes this work, and is it possible
to replicate these settings on our WSE 2012 R2 server?
    Thank you.

No, our clients are not domain joined.
To clarify, I'm not trying to redirect local folders, but rather to add the (automatically provisioned) user folder on the server to local libraries.  Federated search does support this scenario in WHS, so I assume it should work in WSE.
Trying to understand why I'm seeing the error.  Thanks.

    Hi huydaibang,
The older version SQL Server 2005 could be installed with SQL Server 2008 R2 side-by-side.  It could not be the problem.
The reason that we get this error message is the client stack could not receive SSRP response UDP packet from SQL Browser.
    Here are the steps:
    1) Make sure your server name is correct, e.g., no typo on the name.
    2) Make sure your instance name is correct and there is actually such an instance on your target machine.
    3) Make sure the server machine is reachable, e.g, DNS can be resolve correctly, you are able to ping the server (not always true).
    4) Make sure SQL Browser service is running on the server.
    5) If firewall is enabled on the server, you need to put sqlbrowser.exe and/or UDP port 1434 into exception.

  • FTP Error - Mac, DW_CS6

Due to upgrading my MAC from S.Leopard to M.Lion I've lost the use of DWmx04, a programme I have used for a long time, so thought instead of going through the stress of reinstalling S.Leopard I would embrace the change. So have downloaded the trial version of DWcs6, all going well until testing the FTP. Got all the necessary FTP details for my site, but I get the message 'An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to host. The remote host cannot be found.' I might of had a similiar problem when originally started with mx04 but can't remember how I solved it. I understand that there are many perameters, any advice would be helpful.
This might be a long shot but until very recently I was using MX04 successfully, is there anyway of transfering mysite  FTP details from there?
I've checked previous posts but haven't found a definitive answer.

mx04 was working on the same machine (mac pro) until the upgrade (1month ago). Due to it being a Power PC program it refuses to load, but all the databases are still on my system, will have a look at your link.
I successfully loaded mysite files into DWcs6 but it would be good if I could access my previous DW04 FTP settings, to see where and if I have made a mistake.
Thought it would be an easier way than just constantly changing and testing individual FTP settings.
    Thanks

  • HT201405 how to solve time machine error-1

how to solve time machine error-1

I checked the pondini fixes and ended up doing the following - in case this could help someone else with OSX Lion and Time Capsule... http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
First, I downloaded and used Airport Utility 5.6 instead of 6.1 - BTW, I had to attempt download and installation THREE times before the program actually installed.  Be persistant.
Pondini #5: It's possible some names (of all things!) may be a problem.    See item C9.  I had to re-name my Mac, Time Capsule, network, etc... to remove all apostrophes and spaces.
Pondini #7:  If you have WD SmartWare installed on Lion, it's not compatible, per RoaringApps, and there are reports it can cause this problem as well.   Use Western Digital's uninstaller, or delete the app from /Applications and the files com.wdc.WDDMservice.plist and com.wdc.WDSmartWareServer.plist from /Library/LaunchDaemons.   There may also be a file in Library/Application Support.
I then had to shut down computer, unplug Time Capsule, unplug modem; plug everything in again, then reboot computer; then had to go to Apple- System Preferences- Network- and reselect my Time Capsule to connect to WiFi again.
Then opened Time Machine preferences again and attempted back up - it worked!

  • FTP Error in Dreamweaver (mac)

I have a site that I can connect to on my Dreamweaver/Windows, but not on Dreamweaver/Mac.
I have the settings identical as far as I can tell and it immediately gives me an error that says:
An FTP error occured - cannot make conection to host.
No response from server. This may be due to one or more of the following reasons:
    -Proxy... etc...
    -Use Passive... etc...
    -IPV6.... etc...
    -Firewall etc...
    -Port 21 etc...
None of these apply except for Passive and I have set it both ways with no joy.
I can use FTP from Firefox on my Mac with the same settings and it works fine.
    Kirk

    Fixed.
I am using Dreamweaver CS5.5 on Snow Leopard and am having the same FTP problems.
After  trying to uninstall and reintall Dreamweaver CS5.5 with no luck I was  able to solve my issue by leaving the "Root Directory" field of the FTP  server configuration BLANK.
My hosting provider (justhost)  allows you to specify the FTP path when you create a FTP accounts. That  is where I specify the "root dir" path and not in DW ftp server config.

I keep getting network connections error when downloading update for iPhone 4. Any suggestions?

I think I solved the problem by initiating the update in a different way, from the itunes panel where I can click to start the update, instead of saying yes when asked if I want to update when itunes launches in response to the iphone being plugged into the computer.

  • HT201210 pls solve my problem error 3194

pls solve my problem error 3194

    Hello,
    Check this:
This device is not eligible for the requested build (Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194")
Update to the latest version of iTunes. Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) users may need to download iTunes 10.6.3.
Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.
    Hope it helps,

  • Remote host ftp error dw8 and Mac OS X using airport

I'm learning PHP at a local tech school and can put files and
can connect to my SQL database at the school using DW CS3 and Win
XP. I have a wired connection at school. However, when I try to
work on my site at home on my Mac using OS X 10.4.11 and DW8 I
receive the error: "An FTP error occurred cannot make connection to
host. The remote host cannot be found.
I'm am using passive ftp in dw8 and in my network preferences
on my Mac. I've double checked my settings for the site definition
and cannot find anything wrong. I'm using the same site definition
at school and at home. Since I can connect at school I think it may
be a problem with my firewall and airport. FTP on port 21 is
    allowed under firewall preferences.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I am thoroughly
    confused!

If you home is not on the same network as your school I'm
    surprised you can
connect via Transmit because 10.4.11 is not a valid IP

  • Cannot make stable FTP connection - An FTP error occurred

Having problems with Dreamweaver FTP, any suggestions appreciated. Using CS6 on Windows 8.1 via Virgin Media Super Hub.
Dreamweaver successfully connects to FTP server and PUT's maybe 5 to 10 jpg files then stops with this error: (uploading immediately after PUTS a few more up then stops with the error again):
Error occurred - An FTP error occurred - cannot put xxx.jpg.
Dreamweaver cannot connect to host. This may be due to one or more of the following reasons:
    - The network cable is unplugged or the network is down. Please verify that the network cable is connected and that the network is up.
    - The FTP server is down. Please verify that you can connect to the FTP server using another FTP program.
    - The FTP host name is incorrect. Please verify that the host name is correct in the Site definition dialog box.
    - Accessing the server requires proxy settings that aren't properly set. Please verify that the proxy settings in the Site category of the Preferences dialog box are properly set, and that the Use Proxy option in the Site definition dialog box is selected.
    - You may need to connect to the server using a different port than the one provided. Please specify the correct port in the box provided.
Have already tried with no effect:
    - Temporarily disabling Windows Firewall
    - Ticking/unticking passive mode and the other settings in Dreamweaver>site>server
    - Switched Virgin Media Hub to Cable modem mode
    many thanks.

Edit > Preferences > Site.  Try increasing your FTP Time out and disconnect settings.
Does this also happen with a 3rd party FTP Client like Filezilla?

  • FTP Error - cannot make connection to host.

Hello! Have been searching through the forums and have seen
some topics that are similar to the problem I am facing but have
not found one to solve it yet. I connect to mulitple FTP servers
through Dreamweaver to upload and manage sites. As of late I will

An FTP Error occurres - cannot make connection to host.
It has happened on multiple servers from various providers. I
am convinced that it is a Dreamweaver issue or a connection issue
on my system. Any thoughts, help, or ideas to fix the problem would

I have tried most of the things out there on the boards but
nothing has worked for me. The odd thing is that earlier today I
