[SOLVED] Network restart before Arch can access internet via IPCop?

The Leopard machines on our LAN have working internet on boot, my Arch box does not?
Even though I have the IPCop server's IP in the Arch /etc/resolv.conf.head file, I still have to do a sudo /etc/rc.d/network restart before I can use the internet.
Does anyone know how I can solve this one?
Thanks for your time.

tomk wrote:Post your /etc/rc.conf. If '/etc/rc.d/network start' works but network-at-boot-time doesn't, that's where the error is.
As a workaround I've put /etc/rc.d/network start in my /etc/rc.local & now I don't have to type it manually.

I looked in all the logs that had been changed after a boot.

  • I can access internet via boot camp with windows 7, but not when I use the Mac w/Mt Lion side. Thanks for any tips!

I'm using a 2012 Intel-based iMac with Mt. Lion and Windows 7 with Boot Camp. I used to be able to access the internet on both sides. Now, my only internet access is through Boot Camp. At one point, access was unable on both sides but IE in Windows 7 automatically diagnosed the problem, changed some settings (which I don't know) and I could access the internet on both sides . . . for a while. Now, I can only get online in Boot Camp. Since IE detects no problems it doesn't apply the fix as it did before. Does anybody know what's going on?
I should mention that I installed Boot Camp because there is no Mac version of the software (VantagePoint)  I need to use (duh).  I wanted to be able to use the software w/o rebooting all the time so I installed Fusion. Of course, I didn't ask the VantagePoint techs if this would solve my issue. It didn't - VantagePoint won't work with Fusion, but it will with Parallels. So I installed Parallels and imported Boot Camp. Apparantly, it was not set up properly, I'm getting all kinds of errors reported in Console (e.g. "Found cross-bounds GPT partition. GPT disk detected," mdworker cannot talk to sandbox, etc.).  The VantagePoint techs say the first step in a VM retry is to regain internet access to the Mac.
Anybody who can help will become my new best friend. Thanking you.

Are you using a MacBook Pro? Is everything installed on the same drive?
I would love to know how that install was performed. When I install Windows under boot camp, my MacBook Pro drive ends up with 4 partitions: Mac, Mac Recovery, Windows, and a small partition that I believe is used by boot camp.
Installing BitLocker on Windows requires the creation of a new small partition that Windows will boot off. The small partition is unencrypted, while the primary Windows partition will get encrypted. The following post discusses the maximum partition issue: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22753791#22753791
Has anyone installed Windows through boot camp on it's own drive, and if so, can BitLocker be installed on that without reaching any partition limit? I'm assuming that's possible, but would like to know before I spend hundreds on new hardware.

  • Other PC can access internet via cable but not via wireless.

Hi, I am new here. But I have a question hopefully someone can help to answer. I juts got myself signed up for one of those portable USB modem that you can use anywhere and you use a phone sim card to access the internet. I connect the usb device to my desktop computer and use a linksys wireless router to connect to other pc in the house. My problem is that the internet can be access by other pc's if I connect the other pc's via a network cable but no internet all if I connect via wireless. Any reason why it work via cable and not via WIFI? Is it the setting inside the router that is not set correctly. I pretty much left the setting on factory default except for the wireless network name. Any help to explain why this is happening is much appreciated. Thanks. Alex

Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device: - Open
an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on
the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' to select the
extracted/uncompressed .img or .bin file and click on "Upgrade"-Wait for few seconds ....
It shows that "Upgrade successful"  After
the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back
to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Reset the router for few seconds ....
    Reconfigure it ....

Apple TV 2 is asking for network time before I can purchase a movie? Even restarted it and still did the same thing.
How do you fix this? My wifi is operating 100% connected and I can access the Itunes Movies etc. How do I get it to work again?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you've had it working previously, try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for a 30 seconds, or a restore if the problem persists.

  • Iphone 3gs passcode locked and stuck in emergency - how do I restore it as iphone says i need to unlock the phone before it can access it but all i can do is dial emergency number

My iphone suddnly went into emergency numbers only mode and I have stried soft reboots - but no sucess - it goes back to the emergency screen.
Have tried plugging it into my laptop - but iplayer says that the phone needs to be unlocked before it can access it
Please can anyone explain how I can overcome this - I am totally baffled

Even when your iPhone is locked up, you can still sync it with your computer. Do that first so all your data is backed up in iTunes. If you're using iCloud, you might want to switch it over to your computer for now just to be sure your information is safe.
Put your iPhone into DFU mode. To do this, reboot your iPhone by holding down the power and home buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds. When you see the Apple logo, let go of the power button but continue holding down the home button. Soon you will see an image displaying a USB cable, the iTunes icon, and a message that says "Connect to iTunes."
Assuming you still have your iPhone connected to your computer with iTunes open, you'll also see a message telling you iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode and needs to restore. Now you can click the Restore button in iTunes and then wait for iOS to download and install on your iPhone.
Sync your iPhone with iTunes to restore all your data and you'll have it back to normal with no password!

  • Could I access internet via the university wireles...

I am in the US. I just got an unlocked Nokia E72. I don't have data plan. I am wondering whether I can access internet through the university wireless, like my laptop? If I can, could anyone tell me how to set the wireless connection?
    Thank you!

It depends on how the network is setup like psychomania said.
In my school, two options exist, if your hall is within range of the wireless network, you could try connecting to the wireless network and see if it connects you.
If it doesnt then you problem would need to register your wireless MAC with the school network so they provide your mobile with access (at least that is the way it works here).
An alternative to this, wot i do is since the schools wireless network doesnt get to me and i have the wired connection, i create an adhoc wireless connection (disable internet connection sharing and allow IP set to automatic configuration)
When that is done, you bridge both wired and wireless connection, and the you have an AP.
Search for the wireless connection with you phone and you should be able to access the net thereafter.
    cheers.

  • IPhone can't access internet via home Airport network

    Hello,
a work colleague of mine has an iMac at home with a single Airport Express unit through which he plays music. He connects his iMac to the internet via an ethernet cable. He has just purchased an iPhone with an Orange contract. His son also has an iPhone through his employer.
Neither my colleague nor his son can access the internet with their iPhones via my colleague's home Airport network. Both iPhones recognise the Airport network, evidenced by the 'fan' icon that appears on their iPhones.
    (Hope the above makes sense.)
I have emailed my colleague several 'help' articles, including those put out by Apple. My colleague has also communicated with someone from Apple (AppleCare I think?) but the problem persists.
Both iPhones apparently perform okay apart from this one irritating instance. Can anyone suggest what is wrong?
    Many thanks,
    Bob.

If it's an N Airport, I have heard that iPhones don't play well with N routers even if they are backward compatible with G.
Otherwise, they could try going into Settings/Wifi. See if the network shows up. Try clicking on it and see if it connects.
If that doesn't work click on the little arrow on the right side next to the network. This will reveal the network settings. Make sure that it's set on DHCP if that is how they acquire an IP address or static if that's what they use. If it's static, you'll have to put in the settings.

  • (solved) Network Restart

I've recently discovered a new problem with arch...
The network daemon can't be restarted properly. Whenever I try a "/etc/rc.d/network restart" everything seems to be working fine but I don't have a functioning network afterwards. After a second restart, however, it suddenly works. First of all I thought it was a suspend issue but it also happens directly after a boot.
Don't know what could've caused it nor have I an idea how to solve it.
    Help appreciated

Yep, you're perfectly right, only starting my wireless interface (madwifi btw) but...
    nope, that didn't work....
But here's something that might be useful...
    First restart
    [sven@svenlap ~]$ sudo /etc/rc.d/network stop
    :: Stopping Network [DONE]
    [sven@svenlap ~]$ sudo /etc/rc.d/network start
    :: Starting Network [DONE]
    [sven@svenlap ~]$ iwconfig ath0
    ath0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:"FeelGood" Nickname:""
    Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: 00:12:BF:A5:62:A4

    Power Management:off

    [sven@svenlap ~]$ ifconfig ath0

    collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
    RX bytes:115759 (113.0 Kb) TX bytes:48925 (47.7 Kb)
    And the second one:
    [sven@svenlap ~]$ sudo /etc/rc.d/network stop
    :: Stopping Network [DONE]
    [sven@svenlap ~]$ sudo /etc/rc.d/network start
    :: Starting Network [DONE]
    [sven@svenlap ~]$ iwconfig ath0

    [sven@svenlap ~]$ ifconfig ath0
    ath0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:19:7D:33:F5:53

There doesn't seem to be something wrong with the iwconfig part but obviously I don't have an IP address after the first restart.
Then maybe misfit is right and it's still something wrong with the dhcpd variable?
edit: It has obviously something to do with dhcpcd because if I restart the network after a "killall dhcpcd" everything works fine....
