Just to make certain, you inserted the original installation disk and started the MBP holding down the C key? Did the Optical drive reject the disk or did it just spin? If the former, the lens in the drive may be dirty and needs to be cleaned. If the latter, you will have to take it to an Apple repair facility.

I know from experience that this must be a frustrating situation for you especially if you don't want to loose the music/video content that is currently on your ipod. Unfortunately though you may have to consider re-syncing it as it thinks its currently synced with another computer.
If you bought any music that is on the ipod through itunes you can opt to right click the ipod in itunes and 'transfer purchases' if you authorise your library in the 'Store' menu in itunes. Some reasons for this happening may include some of the following:
Deleting and reinstalling your itunes on the computer.
Removing the account you had on the computer you used itunes in and making a new one. (User account, eg: Lisa).
Changing computers in the past.
A friend or family member syncing it on their computer to give you there music.
A sign of a failing iPod.
Alternatively you can opt to not sync it and keep the music that is on your ipod there but this means you will never be able to update your ipod.

Thanks for that 'sberman' - because my iPhone is backed-up to my work computer (only at this stage) I have had to call our IT Department in Adleaide. (4 times this morning). The last guy managed to get the phone into 'DFU Mode' - no more recovery mode screen - (kind of 'asleep' perhaps) from my understanding of same. I am awaiting a call again from IT so they can get my computer to actually recognise my iPhone on the C Drive. This also happened to one of my colleagues in Newman (WA). She got so frustrated with the whole process that she bought another phone the next time she was in 'civilisation.' She hasn't had any problems since. (Cross fingers).

Something has changed with my iphone syncing and I don't know what. I use entourage exclusively for my calendar and contacts on my Mac computer.
My calendars were syncing fine using itunes, both with wifi and connected. Then some things disappeared from my calendar, and I can't get them back. New events sync fine, but my computer has events that will not go over at all. I even tried to replace all my phone calendar with everything from my entourage calendar, and again the same things did not move. What could I be doing wrong.
Now, I have a bunch of stuff on my Mac entourage calendar double. There is sooooo much work to get that back to normal. I am starting to think that my phone and calendar syncing is tooooo much work. I don't have the time for this.But once again, I do not want to lose my other texts, app progress, and photos. I could sync the photos but i would still lose the app progress and texts. I would only restore if it was the only option left, but the other space, as already stated, isnt the main concern. The main concern is those 'deleted' texts. If they go, then a good size chunk of the other space goes. I know you CAN delete texts for good. It worked fine before. All i want to know is why its not working for me now, and how to fix it.
I also know that when you delete texts on your iphone, they get marked for deletion, however they stay on your device (thats why they show up when you search for them.) then when you sync your device with itunes, the texts marked for deletion should disappear. When i synced they didnt disappear. Thats what i need an explanation/solution for. Why the texts marked for deletion didnt get fully deleted after the sync. -
Z3 Compact is amazing! But can't get some things to work...
Hi everyone, this is my first Sony phone, which I bought to replace my Galaxy S4. Went this route because of the reported awesome battery life and because I was fed up with such a "big" phone, and wanted somethign smaller. The flagship-speced Z3 Compact was the obvious choice. I've only had it for close to 4 days, and I'm in love. Xperias Android Skin is so much smoother, complete and logical than Samsungs, while the phone is much cooler and premium-feeling. So far there's three things I can't figure out though. 1. By reading, it seems it's a common problem, some reporting some things fixed it, most don't Facebook Events and Birthdays to show up on the Calendar. My Galaxy S4 showed both. I've only managed to have events show up on my Calendar, but can;t figure out why Birthdays are not there, and how to add them. Any solutions? 2. Message/Notification counts. ON the Galaxy S4, Whatsapp and Line, for example, had a little balloon showing the number of unread messages/notification that the app was reporting. On my Z3 Compact, this is not the case, not even with something more "stock" such as Hangouts, which I use as default SMS client. I know it does such a thing, because the Email app does show the amount of unread emails in a orange-yellowish balloon. Help? Other than those two... I adore this phone. Got close to 60 hours of usual usage out of a single charge, with not a single moment of lag, performance drop or Stamina mode enablment.. That's witchcraft, if you ask me. 3. Email app: I can't find an option to have the client always show images by default, instead of always clicking "Show Images" and then "Always show images". Where can I set this up? I don't know if these have already been addressed or if there is some setting that I've overlooked but I'll list them anyway. Here are some things I'd like to see different in Safari:
1. "Save As..." or "Run". Not all files should go into one folder. Sometimes videos should go in its own folder, programs in another, as should pictures, etc. Also some programs have a file that needs to get ran in order for something else to get started. So there should be an option.
2. View video or pictures in the web browser. Sometimes people will post a link to a video or picture and instead of viewing them in the browser, Safari tries and downloads it. Now I have to open the folder, clear the download manager's entry of the file, view the file, delete the file, and then empty my recycle bin. What a hassle! I'm sure Safari can give some native support to Mov or M4V files at least.
3. Better website compatability. Even major sites like Chase for banking won't show up correctly because it didn't have Safari in mind but it shows up fine for IE or Firefox. I'd like to see some better code for that.
4. Ability to sort bookmarks by name. I have imported all my bookmarks from IE just fine. But if I want to reorganize my folder by dragging the folder and moving it between folders, it won't let me. Instead, it opens up the folder like I want to add it between them. I'd like to see some better interfolder organzing with drag and drop or a "sort by name" option.
5. This probably isn't a big one, but on some forums that have drop-down menus for searching (like forums), it just links down to a search box somewhere else on the page instead of providing the drop-down box.

I haven't experienced this. I prefer my movies to open in my movie player, so I can full-screen it and keep surfing. Pictures open in the browser for me, but I'm not right-clicking or anything special.

Some websites require extra code to get the site to look like they wanted. This goes for ALL browsers. The web developers did not take Safari into mind, so they didn't program for strict CSS rules, or other things. However, as far as I can tell most sites work fine, they just "look" different. (Fonts look better imo.)

Is that the website? Some websites default to simple controls if Safari doesn't work with the preferred control.

I can't backup my iPhone 5. It says I don't have enough storage. So I've deleted like 6-7 apps and its still says I don't have enough storage. And it also says the same thing when I want to buy new apps or music. Also my messages won't send; I have to turn my phone off and resend then just to they can send. I can't even take any pictures because it says I have no storage.(I currently have 1,658 photos and 72 videos by the way.) What can I do? I just my phone in late December. I didn't think it would act up this bad before I even had it for a year. Please help.
Your phone needs more storage, buying storage on iCloud.com doesn't change that.

Master-Detail Form - implementing some thing like Post-Query trigger
Hi all,
I am struggling to implement an eqivalent of a post-query trigger in Oracle Forms. Please bear with me as I am trying to explain in detail what the problem is.
Here is my situation.
I have three tables EMP, DEPT and LOCATION. I created a Master/Table pages on EMP and DEPT.
Basic relationships.
Each LOCATION has one or more DEPTs; Each DEPT is at one and only one LOCATION.
Each DEPT has one ore more EMPs; Each EMP is assigned to only and only DEPT.
Not getting too complicated, here are the table layouts:

Assume I have all the constraints, BIU triggers, sequences defined properly.
I am using the APEX page wizard to create a Master/Detail Form on DEPT and EMP. The first page is the Master Report on DEPT. I want to display the Location Name on this page also. Because the Master Report allows
you to change the query, I was able to add the Location Name as part of the
query. This was very simple.
Select a.name "Department_Name",
b.name "Location"
from dept a, location b
where a.loc_id = b.id
Moving on, In the Master Detail Form, I would like to get the Location Name as part of the first Region (Dept Region).
In this region, I would like to include the Location Name also. So my first region on the Master Detail form includes:
Dept Id: ________
Dept Name: _______
Location Name: __________
As Region are automatically populated using using a Fetch Row from EMP table (Automated Row Fetch) on an After Header process point, I don't have a way of including the Location as part of query. So I created a Region level Item called Location Name, made it Display only.
In the old SQL*Forms, or Oracle Forms days, I used to use a Post-Query trigger, or Post-Change trigger to fire on the Loc_Id column to populate the Location Name. Simple fetch like:
Select name
into :P80_location_name
from location
where loc_id = :P80_loc_id
However, I am struggling to implement some thing simple like this in APEX. Tried creating a processes, computatations etc, but nothing is working.
I have seen some previous responses to fetching values from a foreign table
using a button or AJAX script, but this should be very basic. What am I
missing here?

I'm not too familiar with the post-query triggers in Oracle Forms, but the use of a List of Values (LOV) on your LOCATION table might do the trick for you. If you create a dynamic LOV based on your LOCATIONS table, it can then be referenced by the LOC_ID item on the Master-Detail page, to display the Location Name. You could try doing the following:
1. Create a new dynamic LOV, LOCATIONS, using a query similar to the following:
select Name d, ID r
from LOCATION
order by 1
2. Edit the "Create" button on the Master report page, and in the "Optional URL Redirect" section set "Request" to CREATE. Click Apply Changes, to save the setting.
3. Edit the LOC_ID item on your Master-Detail page, and set the following:
* in the "Name" region change the "Display As" setting to Select List
* in the "Label" region change the Label to Location Name.
* in the "List of Values" region set the "Named LOV" to LOCATIONS
* in the "Read Only" section, set the condition to Request != Expression 1, and set Expression 1 to CREATE.
Click Apply Changes to save the settings.
When you run the pages now, the Location Name field will appear as Read-Only when editing a selected Master row. The item will appear as a Select List when the user clicks "Create" on the Master page, to create a new Master row.

Things we all want in the MacMini!!!
Howdy everyone,
I am very excited about the new MacIntel Mini! Some great enhancements Apple made was the addition of two extra USB 2.0 ports! Yea! They also added Front Row and the Apple IR Remote too! However, when they did this, lets go all the way in terms of a media center. I posted some things I think they should add to the MacMini either in a small revision or the next big upgrade. Or it could be the third option, basically three options for the MacMini, with these additions. If you have anything to add to this list, post away!
Here is my wishlist for MacMini:
1.) Add some coaxial cables for:
- TV
- VCR
- Cable/Dish TV input
2.) Add support for the additions, (above), in Front Row. Try to work out a deal with the Cable/Dish company so that the MacMini acts as a descrambler box. The channel can be displayed on the TV screen, as well as the time.
3.) Add one extra FireWire 400 port the the MacMini. The reasoning will be explained in addition 7, see below.
4.) In addition to the VGA adapter, Apple should also include an ADC port on the MacMini or the adapter so that it can work with Apple monitors. It is a little weird that an Apple computer would not add support for their own monitors.
5.) More Harddrive options, lets go for a harddrive that has 160 GB of storage with 16 MB Cache, and is 7200 RPM. I am not saying this should be standard, just an option for people who want extra power. The real size I would like is 500 GB HD.
6.) Once you have the connections and the harddrive, add DVR support to the MacMini. The only reason I included VCR to the list is so people can still watch and record VHS tapes as they please.
7.) Additions 6, 5, and 3 are related. If it is not technically possible at this time to fit a larger HD onto the MacMini, it would make number 6 less effective. Therefore, you can add an external FireWire HD for the DVR functions. The second FireWire port can be used for an iSight, or anything else the user needs/wants. I wouldn't recommend USB 2.0 HD's because I my experiences has taught me that FireWire has been much more consistant in data transfer rates.
8.) Add a FireWire 800 port to the MacMini. This would be used for networking, and special operations.
9.) Re-Add the 56K modem. This computer targets the PC market, and people who buy PC's don't normally have the money for a Mac. Therefore, quite a few people probable use 56K modems. In my case, I would use it for faxing purposes.
10.) There is no number ten!
Hence concludes the features I would like in the MacMini, lets move onto pricing.
$400 MacMini Solo Core
$500 MacMini Duo Core
$650 MacMini Duo Core + Extra Features
The picing would take advantage of the Low and high ends of the PC market, and with the $650 MacMini, that would compete with the way over priced and underperforming PC Media center computers, that go for thousands of dollars.• Coax is not dead, quite a few people still use Coax

I agree there is a huge coax deployment. My dead was based mostly on looking ahead - I just don't see anyone building with it anymore - you may cerainly have a better handle on it than I and perhaps it will continue to be installed for decades (I'm sure the existing stuff will serve well for decades and only get upgraded when the devices have moved on.)
I do have to ask - how would you use coax on a mini?

and the people who own them? Since the MacMini is
suppose to be priced competitively, why would it
leave out all the ADC monitors, spending an extra 80
bucks hurts the price competitiveness.
I would imagine that ADC support would costs a whole lot more than $80 to shrink it to fit inside a mini (not that there is any extra room - have you actually opened a mini up? It's a marvel of dense assembly)
Even if there were a compelling economic interest to support ADC (i.e. there were still ADC monitors being designed, produced and sold today) - I seriously doubt the engineering could fit in the size constraints the mini was designed for (fitting under the monoitor - sitting next to a DVD player, etc...) -
Problem with Permissions... fixed, but I want to understand more
Hello. I had a GB project with recorded guitar on my HD. I moved this to an external hard drive before continuing recording. All was fine, but then I couldn't export/share to .aif on either the external or the Mac HD.
I moved the project back to my hard drive and tried exporting to AIFF again, but no joy.
Someone on the Apple discussions board said to repair permissions. So I repaired the permissions on my HD (turns out there were a billion things showing up). I was able to export the song perfectly. So thank you!
Now I want to know: why? What happened? If I intend on keeping future projects on my external instead of on my HD, should I repair the permissions on my external? What exactly am I doing? Did GB think my project was illegal somehow?
ok thank you.Pretty much apps and data have permissions. These permissions keep track of who has the permission to read, write, delete, modify things. Some things can only be used by the OS some by a admin or a certain user. Sometimes when moving data around a permission can get corrupted. Repairing permissions will check data and make sure the defaults are reset. Not a big deal and doesn't happen very often.
