Sony TMR-BT8iP Bluetooth adapter works on 3G - Confirmed

I attached my TMR-BT8iP to my 3G, and got the message it was unsupported, but ignored it. Turned it on, then turned on my Insignia Bluetooth Stereo headset, and voila! got stereo music thru the headset. I don't know how it will affect the already poor battery life, but at least it's one solution to Apple's poor implementation of the Bluetooth standard.

  • Sony TMR-BT8iP

i know there arent many of you out there, but for those who are using the Sony TMR-BT8iP bluetooth transmitter, i have one question:
since it draws power from the iphone itself, does it drastically affect the battery life?
    thanks in advance.

I don't use the product, however I would have to surmize that since it gets its power from the iPhone, that it would have to impact battery life in some way. As long as the transmitter is on, it would be using battery, but not knowing the specifications for the device, it is hard to say how much battery it uses. Once way to test that would be to use the phone from a full charge one day without the unit and check your battery usage. Then try another day from a full charge with the unit and check. That would give you some comparison to work with.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Will a bluetooth adapter work with AirPort

    Hey Ladies and Gents,
If I were to buy a bluetooth adapter for an iPod Classic, will it communicate with an AirPort system? My main goal is to send music to my home stereo from my iPod wirelessly. Is this possible?
    Thanks for you help,

  • Bluetooth adapter for iTouch 2g

I recently bought a cheap bluetooth adapter off ebay for my iTouch 2g. It syncs up great with me S9's and my Oakler O ROKR's, but the big problem is I basically bought it for running and if I hardly nudge it at all it disconnects. I was wondering if any other runners out there have found a more "sturdy" bluetooth adapter. I have heard good things about the Sony TMR-BT8iP Bluetooth Adapter but I was hoping to find some first hand answers before I spend a bunch of money of dissatisfactory bluetooth adapters.

So after many attempts of calling motorola's customer support and getting both the headphones and adapter replaced to the most updated versions, I still cannot hear music out of my headphones. I can play/pause songs and change to different songs, but I can only hear music out of my 8gb 2nd generation iPod touch's external speakers. Motorola cannot help anymore, and so I believe I need to buy the Sony Bluetooth adapter that everyone has mentioned on the discussion board. Am I right? Will it really work this time?

  • S9, TMR-BT8iP ????

So, being as I'm not the worlds best researcher. Can I take my newly purchased S9 headphones that don't work, and Get a Sony TMR-BT8iP and actually get my music, IN STEREO, and I don't have to take them back? (it was a gift from my kids). I didn't check first to see if this was yet another of the oddities of the apple world, that nothing works with other Manufacturers components......!!!

I found this post as well and followed the steps exactly and it simply doesn't work.
This issue is driving me crazy and unfortunately really tainting my impression fo Apple.
I have the iPhone 3G and the Motorola S9 headset. Needless to say I was appalled to find out this doesn’t work for stereo music listening out of the box. Absurd an inexcusable as this is, I got over it, and decided to shell out the extra money for one of the various bluetooth transmitters. I started with the Sony described as working above. I could get it to pair for phone calls and then for stereo, but I could never get it to answer a call when music was playing. The most I ever got was a stutter in rining when I tried to answer the call remotely from the headset. I read numerous blog posts and found a number that laid out specific steps, such as the one above, saying it worked great, but they all offered slightly different steps. I wonder if they left out the part where you have to lean your head just right, bend over right when you turn on/off this or that to get the iphone to do with an extra $60 device what it should have done out of the box.
I tried them all: pair the headset to the phone first, turn off the BT on the phone, turn off the headset, then turn on the headset and pair it to the transmitter. Others said pair to the transmitter then turn it off and pair to the phone. Others said push this or that for two seconds or three seconds. I could never get it to play stereo music and answer a call from the headset that comes in when music is playing.
Then I tried the motorola transmitter. Its instructions seem to anticipate this and indicated this would work. I followed the steps exactly and this time the headset would pair to the transmitter and yet the music would never play through the headset, it just played through the iphone speaker while it did respond to the headset controls (play, pause, etc.).
There was even a video of a guy showing it working with an iCombi transmitter: http://bluetoothlounge.com/reviews/motorola-s9-paired-with-iphone-through-icombi -a2dp-adapter/
Unfortunately, it seems that iCombi isn’t around anymore, or their web site shows press releases from 2005, Amazon shows their devices out of stock and no date for when they will be available, an Oakley no longer lists their products on their web site.
This is really absurd, I have spent hours on this. I feel like a monkey randomly trying minute variations on the process, turn this one on first, then this off next, then pair this, disable that, unpair this, etc. etc. Somehow the commercials showing the cool apple guy and nerd PC guy don’t seem to talk about any of this.
Does anyone know how to make this work? Is it possible there is some dependencie on firmware for the S9, or the transmitters or the new 2.2 OS?
Will someone please take hostages at Apple until this is resolved?

  • No Bluetooth Adapter in the Device Manager (Windows 7)

I have a problem: theres no Bluetooth adapter in the device manager. On Mac the Bluetooth adapter works flawless.
A while back, my Bluetooth worked on windows. I used it to transfer files from my old phone to my macbook.
I  tried to install the driver via the old Hardware wizard:
    1. Starting C:/Windows/System32/hdwwiz.exe
    2. "Install the hardware that I &manually select from a list (Advanced)"
    3. "Show All Devices" - Next
    4. Wait a second for windows to load all the drivers
    5. Under Manufacturer, select "Apple Inc." and under Model, "Apple Bluetooth Driver"
    6. Message showing up:
"The software for this device is now installed, but may not work correctly.
This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
Now the Apple Bluetooth Adapter shows up in the device manager under "System devices" but with the status: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)".
After that, I also tried to restart. Nothing changed.
I also tried to install the Bluetooth Driver from the OSX Windows driver disk. Installed without problems but didn't solve the problem.
    Windows 7 64bit - up to date
    Bootcamp 3.3
    Macbook bought 2009
    Model Nr. A1181
    with Snow Leopard
Really looking forward for a solution on this problem.

  • Ipod touch bluetooth- Sony's TMR-BT8IP compatability

Sony made a bluetooth transmitter specifically for the ipod. it's model number is (TMR-BT8IP). This seems like a nifty device if you have an itouch and want to listen to music wirelessly. However, I want to know if what I will do would work.
I recently got the "fring" app. This allows one to use SIP and SKYPE for Voip phone. I was wondering if a cellular wireless bluetooth headset might connect to the Sony wireless transmitter so that I could use it like a phone.
Any ideas? --I can find information on what the transmitter is compatible with, but there isn't any information on what it can't connect with, like a Motorola bluetooth headset.

Um, is there any way that we can encourage apple to create software that would enable your touch to link up with your computer via wi-fi because otherwise, as you both agreed earlier, it is completely useless.
Um, no, I never agreed with any statements about either WiFi or BT being useless. I find both work very well on my Touch. In fact, I don't think anyone was discussing WiFi at all in this thread.
You can submit your feedback to Apple here:

itouch? Do you mean Apple's iPod touch?
If so, you're probably better off asking in one of the *iPod touch* forums, as that is where the *iPod touch* experts hang out that may be able to answer your question.

  • USB Bluetooth adapter stops working after 10.8.5 upgrade

For several months I've been using an IOGear USB Bluetooth adapter and a USB KVM to share my Magic Trackpad between a Mac Mini and a MBP, both machines happily running 10.8.4.
Tonight I upgraded my MBP to 10.8.5 and now Bluetooth is apparently disabled when I have the USB adapter plugged in:
Now I'm left with the unappealing decision of using my Trackpad with only my Mac Mini, my MBP, or constantly repairing it with either to share.
I've been shockingly happy with this little trick, but I guess it was too good to last. Anyone have any ideas why using a USB Bluetooth adapter would stop working? Maybe I need a different adapter now?

Thanks! That solved my problem. I just had to swap in my device id which was different than yours.
I converted my USB adapter's idProduct value from hexidecimal (0x2101) into decimal (8449) and added this configuration:

  • USB Speaker & USB Bluetooth Adapter Not Working

    hi there,
my USB external speaker and USB bluetooth adapter (for my plantronics headset) is not working.  I believe this had to do me removing a critical program (from add/remove programs) about half a year ago - i can no longer do a system recovery to retrieve the program.  I'm currently operating on windows 7x64-bit.  all drivers are up to date and working.  the usb drives work fine - i've tried testing each slot by  connecting my external mouse and all seems functional.  it's only when i plug in the external speaker or usb bluetooth adapter that things go wrong - see screen shots below.  my internal speaker and internal mic work perfectly fine.  it appears to be only an issue with usb audio-related devices.  these devices work with other systems and computers, so i know that it is not the device itself.  i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling conexant audio, but that did not work.  i've gone into the device manager and all looks ok there. i've disabled and renabled, updated all drivers, and still nothing....any help would be much appreciated.
thanks so much for any help or guidance you can provide.

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...
Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
Does it pair/work in the new account?
