Sound and connection problems

Hello.
I own a Ipod Touch 16gb, purchased January last year (i believe it's 2nd gen).
The iPod had worked fine for almost a year until the problems started, at first it would just freeze in 30min-1hour, and then work fine again. But in January (2010) the problems got serious. It started with that the iPod would play sounds and being very slow when trying to play. The only sound there came out of it (both speaker and headphones) where scratching sounds in a very low volume. To hopefully solve the problems i connected the iPod to my Windows computer (which it's syncronized with). The computer reconised that a USB item was connected (the "dong" sound) but iTunes didn't.
Therefor i choose the reset the iPod completeley and delete everything on it.
This worked until now, where the problems has occured again.
The first time the iPod showed problems in January (2010) it was send to Apple, where it was checked for flaws (both hardware and software), but nothing was found.
Currentley im reseting the iPod once again in hope of getting it normal, but im afraid it will happend again.
Any ideas of what the problem is, and how it could be solved?.
Kind Regards
Mathias Brix

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’re running into a Bluetooth connection issue since upgrading your iPhone 5 to iOS 8.1. The interoperability of devices manufactured by different companies can sometimes be frustrating. Try taking a look at the two articles below, they will resolve most issues like the one you described.

  • Timeouts and connection problems after 5.1(2) upgrade

AIM/chat and some other programs are having timeout/connection problems after upgrade to 5.1(2). I am using S241 also. The connection problems stopped when the IPS was set to bypass. Rebuilt IPS and left sigs at default settings and problem is still happening. I am not seeing any of the IPs that are having the problem in the Event Viewer or on the Events in the IDM.
Any known issues with the 5.1(2) that would cause this type of problem?

I don't know specifically, but I did notice that 5.1(3) was released today.

  • HT4623 Sound and other problems with Ipad 3 after ios 6.1.3 update

I purchased Ipad 3 last year and got problem of losing sound when I restored the Ipad throgh itunes. The sound came back automatically after I charged the device to 100%. Recently I got the same problem when the operating system was Ios 6.1.2 and then i got updated it to ios 6.1.3. The problem has not been solved while has been added up. Now the Ipad operation is slow, its either freezes and crashes frequently. Once it gets in sleep mode then it does not come back untill i press power button and home button togehter for sometime. I have checked all settings like mute and have restored the ios multiple times on two separate PCs but the problem is still there. Please help me what i need to do next.

Try a reboot of your ipad. Hold the Sleep/Wake button and Home button simulataneously. Keep holding, ignoring the red slider, until the Apple logo appears. Release the buttons and let the ipad restart. A reboot often fixes numerous problems.
Also are you aware that by suncing with a different computer it is likely the personal stuff you had on your ipad from your imac will be removed?
The ipad is designed to sync with only one device.

  • Screensaver, system sounds and itunes problem

I did all the updates and even used migration assistant so my computer has been through allot already. I do not know which update affected my screen saver and optical audio but my screen saver is having the same issue with two monitors. My VGA monitor displays photos when the screen saver kicks in but my macbook just says looking for pictures. I tried reseting pram, repairing permissions and "safe boot" but nothing works. My optical audio somehow messes with my system sounds and iTunes on first song or podcast played. Sometimes the progress bar will freeze and I can't move it.(the time counter for a track in iTunes). The system sound works off and on when I use optical audio out to my stereo receiver. I talked to apple care and the genius bar and they said I might need to archive and install from the recovery discs that came with my computer. I think if I did that and did all the updates then the problem would return because I think it is a firmware or software update problem and not third party software interacting with the system.

iTunes shouldn't do that. Normally when iTunes finds that it would like to move/rename a file after download or a tag edit, and the filename it wants to use is already in use, it adds a " 1" or " 2" to the end of the filename. It does not overwrite the original file. In fact if it had reused the filename then there would be two entries in your library, which would both have the same information and content. Is this the case? How exactly is the title of the film spelt?
File & folder names are limited to 40 characters in Windows so I would expect (judging by the titles given in the store) to find the movies in a folder called:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - P
    and to be called
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.m4v and
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallo 1.m4v
Hopefully you have a backup of the missing file as, in principle, you are only allowed to create one copy using the redemption code.

  • IMac 20" sound and other problems

My dad has just bought me a 20" intel iMac for my 18th birthday, and has let me have it 2 weeks early, and I love it!
But yesterday i ran into various troubles. I turned my mac on, hearing the usual startup chime, but there was no sound at all coming from the internal speakers as soon as I got into Mac OS (fully updated as well as firmware 1.01) e.g. playing a song on itunes. Absolutely nothing.
When I plugged in my usual external speakers into the headphone jack, the sound was unusually low, and when turning the external speakers up there was a very distinct crackling sound along with the music that was playing.
This, I thought, was just a minor problem that could be easily rectified. That was until my screen went a dark transparent grey with a multilingual message telling me that I needed to restart my computer. So I did, and mac os booted up again telling me that Mac Os had encountered an error. I sent a report to apple at this point too. Then the screen went transparent grey again telling me to restart.
This continued, and I decided to quickly back up my files to a nearby pc (I'm recently converted to Macs), and I inserted my Mac Os install disk. I knew what I was doing as I'd formatted a few days ago due to accidently erasing my mac partition whilst trying out bootcamp . I did a full erase of the mac harddrive, and started the install process, when the grey screen happened again! This led me to beleive it wasnt a software fault. I restarted and attempted to install again. This time no grey screen, but a horrible noise came from the under the bottom left of the screen like a violent clicking. I turned the mac off straight away. I booted up again and installed Mac OS without any errors.
Still, no sound and still the grey screen popped up. I finally decided to phone Apple up with the number from the applecare box. The man on the other end guided me through various diagnostic procedures, getting me to hold applealt+RP, and got me to reinstall mac os, at which point we hung up.
Mac OS worked fine this time with no grey screens, but the sound still didnt work. I phoned applecare up again and a woman showed me the sound pane in system properties. The Output listing didnt show internal speakers at all and just showed Line Out. Well all in all my mac is in the same state right now, apart from I keep getting more and more grey screens, and it seems to be really unstable when trying to install software updates for example.
The woman on the phone arranged to have it repaired, but I was wondering whether anyone had any clue as to whats going on with my mac.
I'd really appreciate any ideas or comments about it. I'm sorry about the length of this post too!

    hey rob,
if your machine was okay, up to the point of your 'experiment' with installing windows, it looks like your problems stem from a dodgy reinstall after the bootcamp attempt [i did the same thing, duing the formatting prep for windows, erased the os x partition bahhh]...i reinstalled and i haven't had any problems since[trying to find a slipstreaming scheme with the older xp pro disk i have].
importantly, though is this clicking sound, not good.
i'd like to know, through looking in the apple system profiler what brand HDD your machine came with. there would be letters designating western digital, seagate or maxtor.
it may be, that this component is faulty. imho i'd prefer one brand over another that apple uses, other threads on the subject have different opinions about that...; ^]

  • Huge speed drop and connection problem when answer...

About 2 days ago my internet speed dropped hugely and it's almost now unuseable.  I've run a speed test and the results are below. Any idea on what to do to get this resolved?
Also, every time I answer a call or disconnect a call the broadband connection is los which is very annoying! Again, any ideas about thats causing that?
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
    Download  Speed
    102 Kbps
    0 Kbps
    250 Kbps
    Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 102 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-250 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :2432 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 135 Kbps

AndyMc what you have supplied is the wireless connection rate between the router and your wireless adapter this is not related to anything from Bt. This is the connection rate which I am sure would be related to a channel issue more than the connection dropping. Here is a link to the help site that will assist especially the link with regards changing the wireless channels. http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/11381/c/346,1887,1889
Make the change and then disconnect and reconnect the wireless and notice if the connection rate changes. I am sure you will get some interesting results. A good little tool you can use is an utility called inSSIDer just do a google search and install that, it will show you where there may be a conflicting channel issue,  the non shared channels are 1.6.and 11. If you need to diagnose the dropping connection problem then that is a different issue to the connection one.

  • Sound and microphone problems.

    Dear members:
After a lot of frustrating attempts to use a microphone with my computers I have finally given up and decided to search for help with this issue.
I have used a earset on three different computers I own (2 Powermacs and 1 Powerbook) but it doesn't pick the sound input from the microphone. I can hear just fine through the earset's speaker but the microphone part doesn't work.
The earset has been used with 2 cell phones I have and I know it's working fine. I have also tried to use 2 Sony microphones I often use with a digital voice recorder during lectures. One is a unidirectional mono microphone and the other is a stereo omnidirectional microphone. Both microphones work just fine with the recorder but on the computers they simply don't show any sound input coming in.
I have gone to the preferences pane, selected sound and chosen line in as the input source. However, unlike my Powerbook's built-in microphone, I can't see the input level bar graph move when I speak into the microphones. In case I do it with the Powerbook's sound input set for the built-in microphone, the input level bar moves to both right and left according to sound level (and the input volume I set). But with the microphones I have tested (3 so far) nothing happens.
The problem can't be related to a hardware problem since I have tested the microphones with 3 different computers and it would be too much of a coincidence to have 3 computers with the same problem. The microphones can't be the problem either since I have tested them and they work fine with other devices.
I have to believe the problem has to do with system configuration and something I am not doing right. I have contacted Apple's technical support but have been extremelly dissapointed by the help I received from a young man who seemed to know less about computers than I do and wasn't very well trained in the art of providing courteous service to consumers.
Any ideas here ? This is frustrating me to the extreme as this should be a fairly simple thing to do that has now become a nightmare.
Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.
    Best regards,
    Joseph Chamberlain

Apple's sound input and output ports are separate on their machines. Not all Macs have a sound input port. If the headset only has one audio jack, you won't be able to use the sound in on it unless you somehow separate the sound input to its own cable.
Please identify your Macs in more detail using the links I've provided here:
    http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html#IDENTIFY
The Specifications link on the toolbar at the top of the Discussions board will get you the sound port configuration of your specific Mac. If there is no sound input port on your Mac, you may need to use a Griffin iMic to hook up the audio input cable. Check your Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Sound -> Input to be sure that the microphone is detected.
Not always will you get an Apple support representative on the phone who doesn't know what they are doing. Most of the time they are quite knowledgeable. If you get one who doesn't ask them to let you speak to someone else who is more of an expert on the issue.

  • G450 sound and mike problem

    Hi all,
I bought a Lenovo G450 from India (Bangalore). I came to UK (coventry) after 3 days and found some problem.
    1. When I connect my headphones, sound still comes from the laptop speakers (sound comes in headphones as well)
    2. Mike is not working.
    3. The volume buttons present in the laptop doesn't work. I have to use the volume in the player every time. This is ok. But it has become highly problematic to start my laptop inside library since the windows starting sound comes very loud and I cant do anything about it.

    Hi adobefree...,
right click on the express vi and select "open Frontpanel", you can now see the blockdiagram of the express vi. You can store it as a new vi and work with it. With the new vi, you have all controls from the dialog.

  • Sound and CPU problems

Okay here are my symptoms. I'm not sure if they are related or not but any insight is a plus.
A month ago approximately 98% of all sound went out on my Powerbook G4 17". I get a red light from my headphone jack and the sound output says digital when there is no digital device that it's supposed to be connecting too. The reason why I say 98% is because I can put headphones in a maybe 5% of the time the headphones will kick in for about 3 seconds then cut back to digital and the internal speakers will kick on randomly for a few seconds then kick back to digital, accompanied by a total loss of volume control. Additionally, some of the time it wont say digital out when I can't get any sound, it will say internal device (spdf). I've restarted, resets, everything most forums suggest. Now my second symptom that seems to have arrived at the same time is randomly, maybe four or five times a day, my cpu user usage will jump to 100% and completely bog my comp. My assumption is the logic board is on its way out but I'm not sure. What are the signs of a bad logic board? Thanks

    Hi all.
Here is the back round on my situation....
I have been poking around this forum for the better part of an hour. Either I'm not seeing right bc its late or no one has the same issue. I also cannot find where to post a new topic so this was just on the same level.
My brother has an old powerbook 17" that has some problems. All can be resolved with some parts that I know are bad and either have or can get to replace. My road block is the sound.
I have no real way of testing this thing. Its been dropped a bunch. Apple replaced it all once. Then dropped again out of applecare. Then I dropped it and the sound just quit. At first it was just the internal speakers then over time so did the head phone jack. No software reinstalls helped this. Shortly after he dropped it and the screen shattered and the hd went.
I have an extra hd bc I upgraded mine. found a screen $270. But there is no use repairing it if the sound doesnt work. 90% of what he would use it for is to record his music and such (he uses mine all time, hence why I want to fix his haha).
I do not know what hardware needs to be replaced to fix this problem. I have spent all night looking it up and I am no where. Only other part I find to replace is the logic board. This is about 450$ and would upgrade his chipset. All I know about the logic board is that it has the processor on it.
    My question is
What hardware has the sound card on it or controls the sound so that I can replace this card, chip or board. Any help would be great.
    Thank you

  • ITunes 7 sound and playback problems

I downloaded iTunes 7 today and when I went to play a track I recieved hidious distortion from every track in my library. I have checked my speaker volume, system volume, iTunes volume and played other media players to see if the same problem came up with them and it did not. I also had iTunes running moments before I downloaded 7 with no problems so its definately 7 related. I have made sure the the equalizer in 7 is turned off and checked each and every setting to see if anything is messing it up and have not found anything. I have reintalled the software twice now as well. I run a Audigy 2 ZS and assume my drivers are up to date if not a fairly recent version.
I should also mention that I run Windows XP 64-bit and have all the Windows updates up to date. One thing I noticed is that the Music Store icons next to each song are only appearing when I have the song highlighted which may indicate some bugs as I know the arrows use to be next to each item in the window in the iTunes versions prior. I bring that up obviously because perhaps 7 isn't running well on XP-64 yet.
Any ideas on where I should start to troubleshoot this? The best description for the sound is a huge distortion filter where you can kind of make out the song behind layers of static and hiss. Its definately something to do with the software or its interation with my hardware and not nessicarly any volume settings that I can find.

Me too.... Just upgraded to iTunes V7. Now I cannot play anything from within iTunes. When playing a song, it is just garbled. You can hear the song enough to tell what it is. But it is severly distorted. More of a "repeating warbling" type sound. Like a scratched record that is playing the same section over a few times before moving on. Also, when I double click a song to play, it takes 12-15 seconds before any sound at all comes out.
In my other players, like Windows media, songs play just fine. All other audio seems OK. Just now cannot play anything in iTunes V7.
I have had iTunes since at least version 4 or 5, and upgraded everytime a new version came out. Each time with no issues until now.
    Using Windows XP, SP2
    2 Gig RAM
    2 Terabytes Data storage
    AMD 4800 Dual processor
Sound Card - Creative Emu 1212
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

  • Fixing Fan Noise Created Keychain and Connectivity Problem

This will kind of be long so bare with me...
I occasionally will get the dreaded "fan running out of control/noise" scenario with my Power Mac G5 Dual 2Ghz (Mac OS 10.5.6). I usually run through the usual steps, re-set PMU switch, re-set nvram, run repairs with Disk Utility, boot up under a different startup disk, etc. Eventually something works and the fan returns to normal. This time around none of those steps worked but after 20 minutes the fan went back to normal by itself. Go figure...
At the same time this was happening, my computer would not connect to the Internet. The router's (which is connect to a cable modem) status lights said I was connected but my computer could not automatically get the DHCP information nor could it reach the router's control panel via Safari. I have a PC also hooked up and it was connecting to Internet fine and it was able to access the router's control panel via Firefox. At this point, I was hoping the ethernet hardware was not going bad.
Not only that, I could not access my keychain formation. When I selected any items and tried to show password, it gave me the error message about unable to access keychain item. I ran First Aid on the Keychain and it reported no problems.
My main startup disk is running Mac OS 10.5.6. This version of the OS has been running fine for the past couple of days before all this happened. I have a second startup disk which has Mac OS 10.4.x installed. I tried to boot up with that startup disk (OS 10.4.x) and the computer was able to connect to the Internet fine. That ruled out the hardware. I booted up with the main disk (OS 10.5.6) again. Surprisingly enough I had Internet connectivity again. My keychain was almost back to normal. The only problem is that for any item I select to show password for, a pop up window appears saying "Keychain Access wants to user your confidential information stored in "xxxxx" in your keychain. Once I select the Always Allow button the information is displayed.
    So my questions are:
    1. Why did my computer "refuse" to connect to the internet in this odd manner?
(BTW -- I am using OpenDNS with the router, could this have contributed to the connectivity issue?)
    2. Why did booting up with a different startup disk seemingly corrected the problem?
    3. In the Keychain, is there a way to apply "Always Allow" as a group instead of one by one?
    4. Is this an unforeseen side effect of updating to OS 10.5.6?
    5. Could any of this have been avoided?
    Thanks.

FYI to all the helpful folks here (and any looking to shut their jet engine off as well): Flashing the BIOS did the trick.
First I had to find a website with DOS OS files and put those on the USB instead of Vista.  Oldie but a goodie, but at least it booted! No other versions would.
I had been intending to use the WinPhlash utility that Lenovo supplied with the BIOS update but since I was booting from DOS that was useless. However, I found a DOS version of it and used that instead. Boom baby!  Flashed and rebooted.
It did take two boots to get it back to normal (first one gave very alarming messages about no operating system being found but I think it was just a remnant of the reboot that was triggered from the DOS session).  A second boot returned life to normal and blissful silence from the server.  And I was finally able to get the model and serial number back in there to get rid of the bootup message it throws for that too.
    Ahhhhhhh.
Thanks to all for the hints - I believe I had gotten the idea of flashing the BIOS to solve this from some other thread I found here.  This is a very nice forum to have bookmarked.
