Sound Blaster Zx driver install causes IO blue screen

So things went like this:
I received my Sound Blaster Zx today. Opened it up, found that it contained some very handy instructions, so I followed those to the letter.
During the installation of the drivers, after I was prompted to choose whether or not to install the drivers by my Windows 7 64 bit (which obviously I chose to install), it blue screened with an IO error.
Then, presumably because the drivers didn't install correctly, it blue screened due to cthdb.sys every time I booted up.
I had to boot in safe mode and remove the drivers.
Then, I started up normally again. Windows automatically installed the drivers, even though it is said to do NOTHING when it detects a new device - no updates, no driver installation, no nothing. It installed the SAME drivers and so I had the IO blue screen again, and then blue screened due to cthdb.sys every time I booted.
Again I had to remove the drivers using safe mode.
No drivers will install without the card being installed, and if the card installed then the dodgy, BSOD causing drivers get installed automatically.
What do I do?

Uninstall the sound driver via Device Manager and remove when asked all the drivers related so it doesnt reinstall them at every reboot.
Swap the card around until you find a good slot and uninstall drivers and disable in BIOS afterwards the onboard prior testing another driver.
Is the cards properly seated in the slot ?!
Ignore the metal stuff look at the slot.

  • Sound Blaster SE, driver not install

Hi, I just went out and bought Sound Blaster SE and installed it on my computer. But, no sound... so I uninstalled it fully and came here and downloaded the newest driver, I installed it and still.. no sound. So I came here and followed all of the guides and STILL NO SOUND! So I went into DxDiag and checked DirectSound and this is what is shows:
    [img"]http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/Jamlpr/DxDiag.png[/img]
After running the test directsound button I get this:
    [img"]http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/Jamlpr/DxDiag2.png[/img]
Note the (No Driver).. odd seeing how it says 3 inches above this that I do infact have a driver installed..
I have onboard sound disabled and I have pcspeaker disabled. I'm running Windows XP Professional. The "no WHQL" wasn't there when I installed the driver via CD, but I still had the same (No Driver) issue.. so I don't think it is that.
If I can recieve ANY help, It will be much appreciated. I would just like to have working sound!

Sorry to double post, but I have heard that reinstalling Xp Pro will fix this problem, but I do not have the CDs anymore.. and I can't shell out the money to buy it again (that's why I got SE, it's cheap). Is there any other fix?

  • FX5200 causes XP blue screen

    Hi,
Bought a MSI FX5200-TD128 card for my Compaq Evo D500 Desktop. The card was detected without issue. But after Windows login, XP abruptly terminates into a blue screen, indicating Page Fault Error caused by NTaccess.sys. Then, the PC after saving the coredump info, reboots itself.
Now I am running my PC in Safe Mode with Networking, and the display is standard VGA. I have downloaded the latest drivers for FX5200, but the problem still exists.
The Compaq BIOS information did not have many settings to play with. I tried setting the AGP aperture size to 256MB, but that did not help.
Hope someone can help me on this.
    Rgds.

Thanks for the help. Driver Cleaner works. I think MSI live update may have caused the blue screen because at one point, after I removed the nVidia drivers and rebooted the machine, the blue screen still happened. So I uninstalled the MSI Utilities in Safe Mode and proceeded with installing the drivers from scratch.

  • T61 DVD causes a blue screen crash

My T61 with a Mat**bleep**a DVD-RAM UJ-862 causes a blue screen crash when I put a blank, unformated disk in the drive.  A pre-recorded video or audio disk will play but a blank disk causes a crash.

No it really doesn't "go to sleep." It doesn't seem to me to be "the monitor," I think this is strickly happening with the computer that incidentley happens to be connected to a monitor. My simple take anyway.

  • Sound Blaster 5.1 Install iss

I just purchased the basic Sound Blaster 5. sound card for my PC.
I followed all the instructions and installed the drivers on my Windows XP (SP2) machine, but for some reason the sound card is not recognized when I click on "Sound and Audio Devices" in the control panel, even though the driver seems to be installed and working properly when I check it from the "Device Manager".
I tried reinstalling the drivers twice now, but to no avail. I also tried uninstalling the drivers to the onboard soundcard, and disabling the onboard soundcard itself through the Device Manager, but that also didn't help.
Finally, if I go to Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers -> Sound Blaster 5. -> Properties -> Properties Tab -> Audio Devices -> Sound Blaster 5. Properties
    It says:
"Status: Driver is enabled but has not been started"
Does anyone know what that means, and how do I "start" the driver?
Just so there are no misunderstandings, here is the exact model I purchased:
    http://www.soundblaster.com/products/product.asp?category=&subcategory=207&product=484

Thanks for all the people who contributed, but in fact this has nothing to do with the sound card model. I searched through various forums on the internet, and apparently it's some kind of a Windows bug which many people experienced with a wide range of sound card models and computers.
Again the problem is with the driver status, saying "Driver is enabled but has not been started".
Unfortunately there is only one solution to this problem which works about 50% of the time, and that is to install the "Plug and Play Software Enumerator" windows component, because in some cases it was not installed. For the other 50% of the people with this problem who did have that component already installed, the exact cause of the problem is not really known and the only viable solution is to re-install windows, which after about 3 days of trying work through all the possible solutions that I could find to this problem, is what I eventually had to do.
Now everything works great though... But it took quite a bit of time to re-install windows and all my programs.

  • Sound Blaster Audigy Re-Install

I uninstalled Sound Blaster and all apps and re-installed on another hard dri've in my computer. Now I've lost graphic equalizer, diagnostics, mixer. These apps were part of my EAX console and are now missing. Should I completely uninstall, remove card, re-boot, run registery cleaner, then [email protected]

    Problem Solved!!!
Let this be a warning to anyone looking to update or download their drivers from Creative in order to restore functionality that you have lost-especially if you trying to do what I did. I merely wanted to move my software to my new faster SATA hardri've so I would have better execution of the programs. When I atttemped to do this, I lost quite a bit functionality with Mediasource, EAX and so on. I did not have graphic equalizer or 5. surrond sound and other things were gone that I had before. Downloading from Creative did not help but made it worse by installing driver for SBLi've! whenever my hardware was SB0570 or Sound Blaster SE!
Now I was at a loss till I stumbled onto soundblaster.com website and found that most of the things I lost were now being offered in a new software program called Creative Media Toolbox for $40.00. Could it be that creative intentionally inhibited my software from installing so I would have to buy something that I should've already had!? No, no, no!? Surely an outfit such as this would not screw over their loyal customer, having bought at least half a dozen products from these people in the last 5 year, just to make a couple of buck? I report, you decide. I then uninstalled all updated drivers, software and after this removed the SB0570 sound card, rebooted computer, ran CCleaner on hardri'ves and registry. Re-booted computer again,? then powered down, re-installed card, re-installed drivers and software from original intall CD and guess what, I now have full functionality just as it was when it was new. I believe there was intentional effort invlolved to ihibit some my older apps to get me to buy something again.

  • Sound Blaster Live Drive Won't reco

I installed a SB Li've dri've in my uncle's computer and I can't get it to record through the mic2/Line-in2 input. I have done everything I know to fix the problem (uninstall - re-install the drivers and software, removed and re-installed the hardware). The problem is that the mute is always on in play control, in the recording control, it is selected, but it is still muted. I can't disable the mute.
    TIA

Here is what I have found with the old li've dri'ves. I bought one of the first li've dri'ves with my very first Sound Blaster Li've!'s then I bought the 5., and then the Audigy 2ZS with its I/O bay. i/o bay and li've dri've are interchangeable terms to me. I have used my very first Li've dri've with my Audigy 2Z and Fatality Pro Pci-regular. Simply plug in the "old style 40 pin ide type cable" and the power source. Reboot your machine. Then you will have a new tab in your Creative Control Panel. The panel will now have options for Line2/Mic 2 etc. These are not alternate inputs and recording sources. These are usable in Windows 7 and Vista as well as XP.
Older Li've Dri'ves work with newer cards, but not all newer Li've Dri'ves work with older cards. For example, the Audigy 2 ZS has a firewire connector that plugs on to the sound card, so if your card has no firewire port connection that part of the dri've wont work. But the microphone, input and midi connectors will. Just make sure that the I/O bay/Li've Dri've is plugged in with the floppy power source connector and that your ribbon cables pink edge is plugged in on PIN on the card and I/O bay. Otherwise, some of the bay's functions will work and others will show up in the control panel but will not work. Hope this hel
    ps.

  • Sound Blaster Z driver settings suggestions please

Hello everyone! I'm new here, this is my first post (I've had this account since 2009.. wow.) Just had some questions that I'm hoping someone here will know the answers to. I am using the Sound Blaster Z sound card with an Astro A40 System headset that is hooked up to the sound card via S/PDIF. My product, both the headset and sound card work great but I have a few questions about the Creative Labs driver options. First off, what software setup do you guys (and girls) recommend?
1.) Select Stereo Direct, disable all encoders (no encoder such as Dolby Digital Live or DTS) and make the S/PDIF audio device on the sound card the default audio playback device
2.) Select Stereo Direct, enable the Dolby Digital Live encoder, and make the Speaker the default audio playback device, with the default format settings at 24-bit 192 kHz (192000 Hz)
If you recommend option 1, what default format / bit-rate / bit-depth do you recommend? The Astro A40 system via S/PDIF accepts 16-bit and 24-bit up to 48 kHz (48000 Hz) I have the most stability and lowest latency using 16-bit 44.1 kHz and 16-bit 48 kHz but in some (rare) cases I've noticed 24-bit having better audio clarity.
Secondly, can anyone explain to me in deeper technical detail the difference between using the speaker output with stereo direct and DDL (Dolby Digital Live) versus just having all audio go directly to the S/PDIF output? Also, if my audio receiver (my Astro A40 mixamp) only allows frequencies up to 48 kHz, how does using the speaker output set to 192 kHz still work over S/PDIF? I can still hear things with the 192 kHz audio option still selected. If you could explain these things to me that would be great! Thank you so much!
    Alec

    Bump
I figured this would be a common question or at least something many of you would know the answers to.. In short:
What is the difference between stereo direct + stereo output versus S/PDIF if audio still comes in either way?
Secondly, 192 kHz audio signals shouldn't work via S/PDIF yet it does when you select speaker output. These drivers are a tad confusing.. Thanks!

  • Sound blaster Audigy LS install probl

HI, I just bought a sound blaster Audigy LS, and after installing the card Windows finds the new hardware, but when I put in INSTALLATION CD I get "setup could not detect any sound blaster audio card on your system" I`ve disabled all onboard sound and old drivers, and tried ALL pci slots now as well. Im very sure the card is fitted correctly, the model no is: SB030. any advice would be very helpful. Thanks alot ` WILLEEEE `

    All,
In order to give any helpful suggestions to these kinds of problems we will need a couple of extra bits of information:
) Steps already taken to resolve problem
    2) System Specs including processor and chipset
    3) Model Number of the sound card
    4) Operating system and service pack
Willeeee provided most of this, however he has also done all of the steps I would suggest without knowing #2 and #4. In all of these cases it is worth trying to install the latest drivers from our website. I know that the original Audigy can be installed using only the drivers found on the webpage and I would suggest trying that first. Also make sure that you have tried different PCI slots in your system.

  • NEO2-FIS2R ATI 9800 AIW Pro TV Tuner causes freezes/blue screens. Help!

I recently upgraded my system from P4 2.4Ghz to P4 3.4Ghz Northwood and went from All in Wonder Radeon to 9800 AIW Pro. Only other change worth mentioning is I created a 0+1 RAID using 4 hard drives which were previously configured differently. I watch a lot of TV while I work on the computer. I do a lot of disk writes and data management which ultimately creates a lot of transfering of data between disks. Never was a problem in the old config. BTW, I also use an external HD conntected through USB for data transfers as well.
Immediately, my system went from stable to unstable. I first noticed that the destop redraw on bootup was slower. Then I noticed that the TV had a delayed response on changing channels and changing volume. Switching to another window causes a slow redraw and sometimes causes a jerk in the TV display like a hickup. Other symptoms include blue screens but no driver is referenced. The blue screen otherwise is a normal STOP screen except for the bottom quarter of the monitor which looks like video garble. Sometimes it just reboots. Sometimes, it freezes. I noticed that doing disk transfers while watching TV usually speeds up the behavior. Comparatively, my use of the TV in the old config was transparent regarless of how much I taxed the system.
Anyway, in view of the unexpected behavior, I decided to backup and reinstall the OS from scratch using a vanilla install method. Everything was detected properly, OS installed fine. Installed ATI's latest Catalyst drivers. I turn on the TV and within about 15 minutes of use, the erratic behavior begins. I figured it was a bad card so I exchanged it out. Same thing with the new card. ATI is shrugging their shoulders and pointing at MSI.
I ran hardware tests, updated the MB BIOS to latest available. Tested all four hard drives/RAM. I can't find any hardware issues. I'm very conservative with my BIOS settings so aside from the default values, I have only changed the settings required to allow for a 0+1 RAID config on the Promise controller.
I put my old ATI Radeon back in and ran the TV for hours and had no problems at all. I also swapped my old 2.4 back in with the 9800 AIW Pro and the problem is recreated so that is what has me ruling out the processor.
Here's what the box looks like inside.
    Antec 480 True Blue
    MSI NEO2-FIS2R (w/latest BIOS)
    1GB Corsair VS512MB400 x 2
    4 Maxtor 160GB hard drives, 8MB Cache, 2ea SATA, 2ea PATA
    Intel 3.4Ghz Northwood CPU, 512KB, 800FSB w/Zalman 7700CU HS/F
ATI 9800 AIW Pro 128MB DDR
    Front/Rear 120mm Case Fans
Optical drive, floppy drive, modem card, sound card.
NOTE: All USB ports are being used by devices with their own power supply except for a web camera.  All fans are using power from PSU. No fans use MB power.
I also checked to insure that the AGP card was seated correctly and verified that it was. So, I'm pretty bummed out that I just dropped circa $500 on improving my system but I can't even get it work as well as it used to.
I think I have found the problem but short of getting rid of the 9800 AIW Pro, I am hoping that someone else has had this problem and can help me out. Your ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Good News!!
While the DDR voltage was set to 2.7, I recreated the conditions in which the failures tended to occur. Within minutes, it was obvious that something had changed as I had never gone that far without getting kicked out, freezing up, or blue screening. Since this is looking more and more like a power issue, I decided to leave all of my external USB connections disconnected except for the external hard drive because I normally transfer data back and forth frequently from it.
When I saw that the system was holding up well, I connected the rest of the USB connections. Everything ran OK for a few minutes but then the sound from the TV dropped out while the picture continued to function. Although, this marked another failure, it was a marked improvement over what had been happening previously.
NovJoe suggested tweaking the voltage to 2.7 ~ 2.8 so I upped the voltage to 2.8 and setup the same environment and the machine has run that way for about 3 hours. That one increment seems to have made a difference.
    Questions which come to mind.
    1. If this is a power issue, is it the motherboard's inability to supply the correct voltage to the motherboard components or is it a PSU issue which isn't providing the motherboard enough juice to do its job or a combination of both?
    2. If this issue can be corrected through tweaking voltages, how do you know how far to go before damaging system components?
One of the original symptoms with the TV is still apparent. Upon changing channels, there is a second delay before the sound and picture synchronize. Changing foreground windows also causes a "hickup" in the TV's sound/video. I'm more concerned with what this behavior may mean from a system performance standpoint rather than the annoyance since this is a 9800 AIW Pro and it should be snappy instead of sluggish.
Up the AGP voltage? On that subject, the people here seem to have a lot of background with tweaking the BIOS. I'd appreciate any other ideas in tweaking this system as well.
Ultimately, I have to answer the question of whether I need to get a bigger PSU or can I safely correct my system performance by using BIOS tweaks?
Thanks again for all your help.

  • Hard drive failing showing the blue screen

    Dear Toshiba technical support,
I have a Toshiba notebook Satellite L305-S5875 for few months, and  it's still in warranty. It shutted down suddenly showing the blue screen saying "physical memory dump...". I tried to restart me computer, but it does the same thing. I tried to reinstall the vista operational system, but it processed half way, then returned to blue screen again.  It seems to me that the hard drive is completely failed. Could you please show me how to fix this problem?
    Thank you very much
    Best,
    Truc Do

The blue screen error happens when RAM details are dumped into a file. This may be caused by a hardware in the computer. It is possible that the newly installed hardware is not compatible to run in your system. Memory stick problem can also be one of the causes of this error. Sometimes starting your Windows in safe mode will do the trick. To do this, press F8 while your computer is starting up. Then choose safe mode option among the list.

  • Blackberry Media Sync causes Windows "Blue Screen of Death"

I recently suffered a very inconvenient (and costly) "Blue Screen of Death" just after  disconnecting my Pearl 8110 (using Media Sync. I run Windows XP).
I was wondering whether the Blackberry hardware or software had in some way caused this - and whether I should be concerned about using Media Sync in the future.
    Any thoughts?

Who knows? It is possible. There are a couple of threads on here about this (although not Media Sync, just DTM). Check out this thread: http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Desktop-Software/Upgrade-of-Desktop-software-resul...
They mention they found a fix for the problem they were seeing on XP (SP2, not SP3).
I consistently get a system crash immediately on plugging in my BB. I am running 64-bit Vista SP2. I haven't found a solution, yet. And, I have a RAID drive, and have to suffer through a several hour image rebuild after the crash, so I understand "costly." At least I can still use the machine while it rebuilds.

  • T420 Installing Windows XP = blue screen

I am trying to install WinXP 32 on a T420.  It seems to be looking for a SATA driver as once it loads up the setup program, it goes to a blue screen.
I have tried downloading the SATA drivers off the drivers site, but out of the 4 to choose from none (using F6 to use an additional driver)  of them seem to work.
    Anyone have any thoughts?

You could change the SATA mode in BIOS to compatibility mode and then install Windows XP that should prevent the blue screen during install. After Windows is installed download the "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver for Windows XP (32 bit)" (filename 83im15ww.exe) and run this file to extract the driver. After the extraction run "C:\DRIVERS\WIN\IRST\PREPARE\install.cmd", then shutdown the computer. Now enter BIOS en re-enable SATA AHCI mode and reboot the computer. If asked for a driver for this device when the computer start point to the directory "C:\DRIVERS\WIN\IRST" for the driver. This way should work and give the same result.
