  • Debt recovery on moved broadband with BT (Current ...

    Small history:
Signed up with BT broadband some 3,5 years ago, As well as a phone line. About 1,5 year later, we moved address not to far from the old one, and thus called BT to have our phone and broadband moved to the new address.
I asked weather this was a problem, as we had run the course on our contract, and they didn't give any warning signs as to us moving to a new address.
As we held on to the old apartment for 2 months after moving to the new, not long after, they contacted us regarding an outstanding bill at that old address, and I asked how that was possible since we were now installed at a new address and paying for both broadband and phone there, and also why I was told that it would be closed, with no charges, when moving into a new address. One phone call later they were happy that to inform us, that it was a mistake, and the charges would be removed, we assumed that was the end of it, and continued to this day, with BT.
Now this morning, we received a letter from a Debt recover agency called SRJ. They claim we owe BT 150 pounds in outstanding charges for BT broadband at our old address. To be sure after calling them, talking to some person claiming this and that, not to mention the threats, I went to try and call BT and ask them what they possibly have going on here. Got India, and got disconnected (Will try to get an English number for billing if it exists) no surprise there (Anyone got a number to English "service" ?)
So, apart from the fact that I don't believe one second, that after 2 years, they suddenly pop out, with no warning to collect money, that we never owed them in the first place, as all bills have been and always was pay'ed. Any suggestions and or experience with similar claims would be appreciated.
    Cheers, Mac,

    Update.
About 2:30 into calling BT, and 2 wireless phones with dead batteries later, on the 4 call, I managed to get through to the correct department for billing in the UK. Spoke with a very nice lady, who promised that they would call of the debt recovery, until the matter had been sorted, and is now being looked into, with a firm promised that she would call me back within the day, to see what they can recover.
As this is on the old account system, they seem to be having trouble accessing the details, but I did manage to attain, that they believe to have somehow transferred back a valid payment of our broadband, to our account, thus missing a payment from May 2009.
This brings me back to the fact, that our broadband contract at the old address ended in January or February 2009 and we took over the new address from 2nd of march 2009. I even have a letter from the 26 February stating that they are happy to confirm the renewal of our old contract, which makes no sense, and probably where the fault lies, as I remember calling them asking why they are renewing our old contract when, we in fact, just asked them to move the broadband to our new address a week later. This is where they returned payment we made via direct debit probably around may 2009 where that bill would have been due.
Going to check into our accounts, if they date back that far to see what has been payed and what was returned and when. Might shed some light on this rather odd occurrence.

  • SRJ Debt collection claim I owe BT a cancellation ...

I was so pleased to come across this forum via a search for SRJ Debt collectors.  I received a letter from SRJ today asking me to contact them urgently.   Clearly concerned, I called them and have been told that I owe BT just over £35 for cancellation of my phone service.
I moved house in April 2009 and informed BT well in advance of the move that we would no longer require their services.  I had been a customer at the address since July 2005 and was not tied into any package time agreement.
After moving BT contacted at my new address re the final bill which was settled and I eventually received a small refund for overpayment!!
I really could do without all the worry over this.  I know it's not a huge amount, but I have read so may horror stories this morning regarding SRJ.  My fear is that this is the start of endless letters and phone calls to very arrogant and unpleasant individuals, such as the person who took my call this morning.
Is there a BT number that I can call direct, where I can find assistance?
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

  • Another debt recovery post...

This morning I received a letter headed debt recovery unit that states that I owe BT £XXX.XX. The letter goes on to threaten that extra fees will be incured by the debt collection agency and my credit rating will be damaged.
    HISTORY:
the beginning of December 2013, I'm with Virgin media but want to change - sign up with BT - make payments in advance (12 months line rental etc) - Monday 16/12/13 arrange for an engineer to connect the service - he doesn't arrive - rearrange with BT for a second appointment Wednesday 18/12/13 fails to arrive again - contact BT to terminate the contract - received email informing me my account had been closed.
After months of rangling I eventually recovered all the payments/money that was owed to me but I was still receiving monthly bills for a service/contract that didn't exist. In order to disable BT collecting the money directly I put a stop on my account.
I've made call after call to them but all you get are lies and false promises. Even when you take a name and contact date it means nothing.
I even tried to invoke my data protection rights and made a request for them to remove all information/data pertaining to me as there wasn't a requirement for them to retain it.
I cannot believe that companies like BT are allowed to get away with what they do.
One day it'll be an elderly person with a heart condition and a nervous disposition receiving one of these letters.
So, if anybody can give me any further advice on closure of this matter I would very much appreciate it.

  • SRJ DEBT LETTER????

I recieved a letter from SRJ claiming i owe them alot of money..... £545.38 to be exact!
I was a bit wary at first when they wanted me to contact them and give details of a personal nature. Why would i give my address, date of birth etc to them to clarify who i am??? who are you more like???
I recieved a phone call from them a week later asking me details,of which i was unwilling to give.I am very wary due to the kind of people there are in the world today.eventually they gave me enough details to make me believe who they were, so the conversation started.
They said they had tracked my new address and the outstanding bill is from BT for the above amount, since we have moved house.
When we moved house, the first thing i did was make a list of who to contact and BT was one of the top ones on my list. They needed my old address, new address, account number etc and they had every bit of information they asked me for. This was in the beginning of February 2011,we moved mid feb (min 5 days notice needed). Our contract was due to expire in march 2011.
When we moved,we found that we could get a better deal with another provider for phone,tv and broadband,so we had given the notice to end the contract and after march 2011 we would no longer be under any contract with BT,hence the last payment being in March 2011.
I have been in contact with somebody at BT this week (12-12-11), and they said that yes there is a bill outstanding that needs to be paid. When i asked what it was for, they said for ceased payments from march this year and that the contract ended in October 2011.How can it be in contract when it ended in march? I asked what the charges were and he said for calls and ceased payments and cancellation fees.
Since looking into this further, and having had NO CONTACT via letter, email, telephone etc,of which they could have done,we have found some very interesting things.
    1)  my mail was redirected until august this year.
    2)  after logging into what i thought was a closed account since march, there appears to be significant phone usage in April-     June 2011,when we moved out in Mid Feb 2011.
    3)  How did BT let it slip through the net when they were clearly informed of our new address details?? we now have a
whacking great big bill for something we weren't even there to run up!!!!
    4)  I was told BT needed 2 weeks notice to connect in our new house, hence us looking for other deals in the meantime.
    5)  The contract for our broadband and calls was due to end on 22-3-11 and if we wanted it in our house, the new contract would start on 25-2-11 after we'd moved in and we had until 12pm on 24th feb to cancel it if we didn't want to continue with BT.We DIDN'T want to continue with BT,so WE DID RING AND CANCEL. Clearly there seems to have been some problem with them actually putting what i was telling them in the computer system, hence me getting a bill that someone else has run up.
I would like any help and advice as to what to do next. We will take this further.Who has £545.38 lying around to pay off someone elses bill? IF I OWE ANYBODY MONEY,I PAY IT!! but i am not paying for this bill!!
    Sal

    Hi sal.
The only people here who can help you with looking into this are the forum mods.
If you fill in this form: http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951 with a link back to your post for ref, the mods will get back to you. It can take up to 3 days ( sometimes longer in busy periods), and they will contact you direct via phone or email.
I will say whatever cancellation charges you had and might disagree with, if you had broadband and did not request a MAC code to move to another ISP, then there would at least be a £30 cease charge for broadband, if nothing else..
Also was it an 18mth contract or 12 mth
Anyway, like I said, get in touch with the mods and see what they say.

  • BT chasing me for debt I have been told I do not o...

    Hello,
I would like to seek some advice about my truly horrendous experience with BT.
To briefly explain the situation, I moved house on the 13th October 2011. I then arranged for BT to transfer my service to the new property on the 17th October 2011 and updated BT with my new address details at the same time. I had to take a morning off work to let in the BT engineer to carry out this work, which turned out to be a waste of time, as I will now explain.
When the engineer arrived he said that he could not install the phone line in a place where I wanted it, as he was only paid to reactivate an old line. As the old line was in the kitchen with no electric socket nearby I could not use it as I needed an electric point for my phone and modem. So I was left with a service that I could no longer use. As I was very dissatisfied with this, on the same day (17th October) I rang up one of their customer service representatives, where I spoke to a lady to explain that I wasn't happy with the service as I would be paying for something that I couldn't use. After spending about 45 minutes on the phone trying to resolve this matter, I was told that I could cancel my service and I wouldn't be charged anything. I was led to believe that my account would be closed without any further charges. I then rang back on the same day (17th October) to double check that I wouldn't be charged anything and clarify that there would be no charges left on my account and the SECOND lady I spoke to confirmed that I wouldn't be charged anything and that I wouldn't receive any further bills.
Following this however, I have since received bills that were being sent to my old address stating that I had charges on my account that need to be paid. A bill was sent in January 2012, so I rang their customer services department on the 28th January 2012, who put me through to one of their call centres in India. So I explained the situation again to the gentleman that I spoke to and I was then told for a THIRD time that I do not owe anything on the account. I recently received another letter (again, sent to my old address) dated 13th February stating that I owe £390.37. I rang their customer department immediately on the 21st February 2012 (the delay was due to the letter being sent to my old address, as fortunately the person living at my old address very kindly forwarded on this letter to my new address). During this call I was again put through to one of their call centres in India. I was kept on the phone for just over 45 minutes whilst they listened to recordings of conversations with their customer service representatives on 17th October 2011, confirming that I would not be charged. This ended up being a complete waste of time, as nothing was resolved and the person I was speaking to then decided that they would need to listen to the correct phone recordings and said that they would ring me within 48 hours to inform me of the outcome. This was particularly inconvenient, as I was due to attend an event that night and I missed it due to being late by being kept on hold with the call for 45 minutes. I had heard nothing of the outcome from this conversation until I received letter from BT's Debt Recovery Unit dated 5th March.
This has now resulted in me receiving a number of letters from BT's debt collection agency Commercial Credit Services and SC Gray Solicitors demanding that I pay £591.17 (again, letters were being sent to my old address). As I was getting no luck with trying to resolve this over the phone, I wrote a letter on the 15th March to explain what had happened. This resulted in a reply from BT to say that they have listened to the recordings of the phone conversations and they are standing by their view that I owe them money, even though at that point I had been told by THREE separate BT customer reps that I do not owe any money. Following this, I rang BT's general customer number as I could not get through to the lady who wrote me this letter and I was told by a FOURTH customer service rep that it states on my old account that "I have been promised that no charges or bills are outstanding on the account"!! So I wrote a further letter to BT dated 10th April and rang the debt collection agency (as advised by this 4th customer rep from BT) to say that I am disputing the debt. The debt collectors told me that they would contact BT to inform them that I am disputing the debt so that it can be escalated with the relevant managers. This clearly did not happen, as today I received another voicemail saying that they have listened to the recordings and they are standing by their view that I owe nearly £600. Clearly, BT are either listening to the wrong recordings (although I gave the names of the people I spoke to with the dates of the conversations) or they are being misconstrued somehow.
I find the behaviour of BT dishonest and unprofessional, and I feel like I am being bullied to the point of being physically sick with worry.
I would be interested to hear if anyone has any advice about my next steps, as I really am at a loss as to what to do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

Unless this recording kit has a magic facility to record all the calls you had in the last 6 or 7 months, it will be of absolutly no use in resolving your issue.

  • Outstanding debt

I have recently received a letter from a debt recovery service for an outstanding debt. The problem with this is I have not lived in the property for two years and I only lived in the property for three months. When I first moved in I had to pay £120 pounds to get a line put in, then I carried on with my contract. Unfortunately my situations changed and I had to leave the flat I was in. BT would only cancel my contract if I paid £140 pounds, no other offer was made to me. So I carried on paying my monthly bills as I could not pay this debt. Eventually I cancelled my contract from the bank. But now I have received a letter from the debt collection company asking for £140 pounds. In total I have spent £120, plus three bills, and a continuation of payments (as I couldn't afford to pay off the contract) for three months worth of Internet and phone usage. If I add on the total with the contract closure that comes to (120+90+ 140) £250 for three months worth of service. Which averages at £83 per month of usage, nit including the months I carried on paying. This feels like I have been clamped by a private clamping company and they are hiding behind the law but really are robbing me. Sam

    OS X Internet Recovery
Mac models introduced after public availability of OS X Lion include the ability to start up directly from an Internet-based version of the OS X Recovery system. OS X automatically uses this feature when the Recovery System on the hard disk isn't available (such as when your hard disk encounters an issue, or when your hard disk has been replaced or erased). OS X Internet Recovery lets you start your Mac directly from Apple's servers. Starting up from this system performs a quick test of your memory and hard drive to check for hardware issues.
OS X Internet Recovery presents a limited interface at first, with only the ability to select your preferred Wi-Fi network and, if needed, entering a passphrase. Next, OS X Internet Recovery downloads and starts from a Recovery System image. From there, you are offered the same utilities and options as a local Recovery System.

  • Internet Recovery Can't Find Disk for Time Machine or Reinstalling Mavericks?

I have a MacBook Pro that's a little over a year old. It froze up today when I opened it up, so I held the power button down and restarted it. When it powered on again, there was just a flashing picture of a folder with a question mark on it. I restarted it again, but this time holding down command+r to put it into internet recovery mode.
Once it got to a menu, I decided to try and use time machine. It spent a few minutes trying to find a saved backup, but it seemed to just be spinning its wheels and getting nowhere. I'm only about 60% certain that I ever saved anything on time machine, but it still seems like it should have either given me my saved option or told me I hadn't saved anything, not just run seemingly endlessly.
After that, I went back and tried to just reinstall Mavericks, but it couldn't find a disk to reinstall it on.
Does anyone know what could be causing this problem, or how I could go about fixing it so my computer is at least usable again?

This is from the Apple Knowledge Base (below). Note that it automatically reverts to Internet Recovery when the hard disk "isn't available." I can't say for sure but it sounds like your hard drive may have failed in a way that it doesn't "show up" when the computer looks for it. Hopefully you do have a backup.

  • WHEN should I seize FSMO roles - disaster recovery

    Hi all-
I have two DCs in a single AD forest.  DC1 is at Site A and DC2 is at Site B.  The two sites are interconnected by a 20Mbps leased line.
Simple question here for the purposes of disaster recovery:  Let's assume that the DC1 at Site A is destroyed and I have to failover to DC2 at Site B.  Furthermore, assume that DC1 will be replaced within one month.  Under this scenario, should
I seize the FSMO roles at Site B or leave them alone with the understanding that DC1 at Site A will be back up within a month?
What is a reasonable time cutoff point at which the FSMO roles should be seized?  Assume that DC1 will return to AD within a reasonably short time frame.
    Thanks.

You should seize the FSMO role as soon as you know that the role is going to be needed before you're finished recovering the server that owns the role. The time before the role is needed depends on the role. For example, Schema master is only needed when
you update schema, which does not happen that often, but RID Master is used every time a new security principal is created in the domain, so you probably should go ahead and seize it as soon as you realize that the failure is catastrophic and a simple restart
    of dc won't fix.
    Gleb.

I received a letter in the mail from RMS claiming I owe $71.93 to Patient First. A principal amount of $31.37 and "other" fees totaling $40.56. I replied within 30 days with a debt validation request, which was received by RMS on 05/07/2015. On 05/29/2015, I received a letter dated 05/21/2015 labeled "Notice of credit bureau notification" from RMS stating I had 10 days to fulfill the amount or my information would be reported to credit bureau. At this point, my debt validation letter had not been responded to. I called RMS on 05/29/2015 and spoke with Jewel (x3144) who advised me the account was in dispute and that the documentation I requested was being obtained and my validation letter was received. On 07/15/2015, I received a credit notification (Equifax) of a new collection account in the amount of $71.93 from RMS. I placed a call to RMS at 4:00 P.M. on 07/15/2015 seeking information as to why my debt validation request was not responded to and why the account was reported to the credit bureau. I was told that nobody was available to help me and that I would need to leave a voicemail for "Joe" and was promised a call back immediately. At 6:30 p.m. I placed another call requesting to speak with Joe. After being connected with Joe, he confirmed that the account was forwarded to the credit bureau on 07/13/2015, that my debt validation request was received on 05/07/2015, and that a letter was sent to me dated 05/26/2015, acknowledging receipt of my debt validation request. Joe then asked me if I was willing to pay the principal amount of $31.37. In doing so, he would send me a letter saying the debt was satisfied and request that it be removed from my credit report. I declined the offer as I was still unaware of the debt and its validity. I politely asked Joe for his full name and he declined to help me any further and disconnected the phone call. As of today's date, I've never received validation of the debt. I was also asked several times why I don't remember the bill as it was from just December of 2014.

^^^^^  +1 I agree 100%. Their violation of the law is clear and blatant. CA's like this one need to be sued, until they straighten up or go out of business. The ITS should be simple:You received my timely DV request under FDCPA on xx/xx/2015, and have acknowedged that fact. Validation has not yet been provided yet your company has continued collection activities including a collection letter received xx/xx/2015, requesting immediate payment, and subsequent placement of a collection item under my name with credit reporting agencies. This is a clear and intentional violation of the collection bar imposed by FDCPA: (cite relevant FDCPA section here). This letter serves as notification that I intend to bring suit against your company for this intentional violation of federal law, if it is not rectified within 5 days. I will consider this matter closed if you remove the above referenced listing from all reporting agencies within five days, and immediately close the account and consider it settled in full.
