Stabilizing clip

i would like to know how i can play a clip which is unstable because filmed without tripod, after stabilizing

Hi
How did You do the stabilizing ?
FinalCut Express had a Stabilizing tool up to version 3.5.1 - but omitted in v.4
Still - this tool was barely working and few got any usably result from it.
In FinalCut Pro - there is a Steady-Cam tool that works greatly - BUT has the strange
idea to stabilize/analyze the full imported clip - not only the few secondes used
resulting in hillarious time to do it as 36hours to be done or worse.
This is easily fixed by exporting out needed clip (seconds) as an individual QT.mov
then re-import this and have this stabilized.
IN FinalCut Express then - One has to add Plug-ins.
I favour fxStabilization - which I used in iMovie up to HD6 and as I get it now
can be used in FinalCut too.
Plug-ins
There are Plug-ins to FinalCut too ! look for them and You’ll find more eg
• Captain’s blow outer - a remarcable tool
• fxStabilizer - for FinalCut
• Andy's Better 3D
• FXScript DVE's by CGM
• G Blur Dissolve
• stib's arrow generator 1.0

  • How can I reset/undo a movement stabilized clip?

    Hello everybody,
My question is regarding the dominant movement stabilization that Final Cut Pro X can do. It's very clever, but sometimes does more harm than good, the clips turn into funhouse funhouse mirrors. I believe it's doing its best with my shaky footage, but I can't figure out how to undo a stabilization of a given clip, or reset it – does anyone know how this can be done?
On non-stabilized clip I have the option to Analyse and Stabilize, as well as a Stabilization item in the Inspector. Here I can customize it manually.
But on a clip already stabilized via Analyze and Stabilize there is no Stabilization item in the inspector, and no mention that the clip has already been stabilized. It's a bit too Microsoft for my taste ('I know what's best for you') if I have to accept the application's fix.
Of course I could reimport the media all over and not have it stabilize it, but this clip is already edited on my Timeline.
    Any input appreciated - thanks!
    Thomas

    Just some images for illustration.
    Inspector for non-stabilized clip:
Inspector for stabilized clip (via Analyze and Stabilize) – no stabilization item:
And the contextual menu option Analyze and Stabilize on a non-stabilized clip, any mention of stabilization is gone on an already stabilized clip ...

  • Problem with transitions after stabilizing clip

Most often, but not always when I add a transition to a stabilized clip i get a jump, in frame size in the stabilised clip. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I've seen some one ask this but not had any replies.
Using latest which I think is 10.1.1

Try turning the clip that "jumps" into a compound clip and apply the transition to that. (I'm just guessing here...)
Also, the "latest" FCPX is 10.1.2 which seems to have fixed a lot of problems that were cropping up in 10.1.1.

  • Smooth transition from (warp) Stabilized clip to the other clips on the timeline

When I link my (warped) clip to the other clips (that are running fine, and are not stabilized), right in the transition (both at the beginning and at the end), the clip "jumps", which I guess is sort of logic.
How do I connect the warped clip to the other clips on the timeline smoothly? I tried to nest both clips so they start out "fresh", but it still doesn't look right. Tried all alternatives in the Warp section.
    Thanks

But you said "transition" - first word, second line?
If you stabilise and export a clip with handles, you can then apply transitions without problem, to the new clip.
Applying the stabiliser to the entire 2 minute clip, if that is what you mean, would not work.  There would be too much motion overall for the stabiliser to achieve an acceptable result.
The best results are always achieved with short sections of clip, so the total motion over the timescale of the clip is limited.

  • Maximum Zoom not appearing when stabilizing clip

I've seen videos and various posts indicating I can adjust the maximum zoom in the clip tab of the inspector screen to adjust how much or how little stabilization is applied to a clip. However, I don't have a maximum zoom slider below the stabilization option in the inspector screen. The smooth clip motion box is checked, and I have noticed that the clip is less jerky but would like to adjust it more.
I'm using 8.0.2 of iMovie, if that helps. Any ideas on why the maximum zoom slider isn't appearing?

OK I see the problem. On your Picture 1, you have selected a clip that includes the red squiggly lines. These will not stabilize, so the whole clip will not stabilize. In Picture 2, you have selected a clip that has no red squiggly lines, so the slider appears.
The solution is to subdivide the clip selected in picture one. You can select the frames that do not have the red squiggly line with a yellow border, and then click Edit/Split Clip (or right-click/Split Clip). Now you will be able to apply stabilization to the portion with no red lines. Repeat as necessary until you have separated out all the good clips. You can leave the red-line clips in your movie, but they will not stabilize.
It may help to set the thumbnail slider at 1/2 second. This will let you select the exact frame where the red line ends. You can move it back to 5 seconds when you have finished splitting the clip.
Also, go into iMovie Preferences and put a check next to "Diplay Time as hh:mm:ss:frames". This will let you edit to the frame level. It looks like you currently have it set to allow you to edit only to the nearest 10th of a second.

  • Stabilizing clips shuts my MacBookPro down...

....every time. And I mean every time. It's like pulling a plug on the power. If a clip stabilizes for more than just a couple of minutes, my MacBookPro suddenly shuts down. I tried changing all the Energy Saver preferences to never sleep and to never put the hard disk to sleep, but it still shuts my machine down. I tried running iMovie in the background while I used my computer for other things, but it still shuts down. So the stabilization feature is utterly useless to me. I have, like 150 GB of free disk space and 2 GB of RAM. The clips I'm trying to stabilize are only a minute or two long, at best. The machine shuts down whether I select all the clips in my movie or just one clip at a time. I'm not running any other apps.
    Any ideas?
    MacBook Pro 15"
    Intel Core Duo 2GHz
    2 GB RAM
    MAc OS 10.5.8

I have exactly the same problem.... my MBP shuts down as soon as i unplug the adapter ...
i have talked to more than one apple center & they all refused to replace my battery because i don't have my receipt ..... anyway.... in my opinion.... our problem is not caused by the battery ( in most of the replies here)
I think the problem is caused by the PMU and nothing wrong with our batteries ..... why do I think that?? i'll tell U why ...
    perform those 2 experiments:
    _experiment 1:_
    1- Uninstall your battery
2- plug the adapter to ur MBP ....
    3- start ur MBP....
4- unplug the adapter and notice how long will ur MBP take to shut down?? the answer is 0 second .... it must be because there is no other source of energy
    _experiment 2_
1- install your battery back again and plug the adapter
    2- start your MBP
3- unplug the adapter and notice how long will ur MBP take to shut down??
in this time it will take 1-3 seconds before it shut down....
_from experiment 1 (without battery) :_
MBP response: your MBP will shut down as soon as you unplug the adapter
The reason: there is no other source of energy
    _from experiment 2 (with battery):_
MBP response: your MBP will shut down after a few seconds ( 1-3 )
The reason: your MBP used the battery which means that the battery does work !!
then I perform another experiment to make sure that the battery do work:
I connected the battery of my MBP to a light bulb ..... and it worked !!!
the light wasn't strong enough because the bulb needs 110 V while the MBP battery can give just over 11 V ......
i kept it for more than 15 min and everything was just fine !!
therefore, the battery is working fine, but the PMU - at least this is what i do think - fails to use the battery instead of the adapter
I may be wrong with the PMU .... but i'm sure that the problem is not from the battery

  • Reanalyzing Warp Stabilized Clips

Premiere2014 CC was working relatively well. Slow as heck but still usable.  It has now become almost unusable.  Every time I exit the project is saved plus auto save does it every 30 min. However when I open the program the warp stabilization shows red in the timeline and the New Frames Need Analyzing come up. There are about 13 clips this happens to every stinking time.  There are also about 10 or so other clips that don't have the warp stabilization and they are fine.
When I hit the analyze button, the computer cpu now hits 100% and the Physical Memory shows 90 to 95%.  Analyzing is slower than molasses. Not fun.  Once all the clips are analyzed one by one, the memory usage is pegged at about 6.5 gigs and cpu is pegged as I said above. Playback is impossible.  This was not happening all yesterday when I first installed it.  Hoping to render the clips in the timeline, I save the project (twice) and exit premiere.  It shuts down quickly but still keeps mem and cpu pegged for another 3 or 4 minutes and then suddenly all the mem and cpu come back to usuable.  I have 8 GB mem installed as two 4GB sticks.  Computer was bought last year and is fast with a geoforce graphics card.  When I open the project the next time, all the analyze settings are gone and it wants to re-analyze the frames again on the 13 clips.
There is no possible way that I can render my preview files after analyzing since the system is pegged.  I've tried.  It's only 4 min of 1080p/30fps but would have taken days.  Everything was rendering slow but fine yesterday.  Now it is frustrating and unusable.
I have an internal 400GB drive with the program. and a 1T external USB drive for the vid files. It was not like this yesterday and everything was functioning.
    Any help is appreciated.

[Please choose only a short description for the thread title.]

Thanks for the response. The warp settings not saving has been a frustrating issue for sure. What's weird is that I have prior sessions within the same vid where the clip warp settings WERE saved and give no problems.  Adobe shows 4gigs as the min for Premiere.  My 8gigs were working slowly but were pegging the mem and CPUs. Earlier they were not pegging, and after I posted I had some good sessions that were slow but tolerable.  Then it went back to being gummed up.
Sooo I went out and bought 16 gigs and moved the project to a new Passport 2T usb3 drive.  Things are still slow but quicker than before for sure.  I haven't noticed if it is saving the warp settings after the new mem.  I had finished all the clips when it was working for a bit before the 16gig purchase.
Otherwise, Premiere 2014 CC seems to be cranking along and sucking most of the new 16 gigs.  But again, it seems a bit happier with 16!
    Thanks for the answers!

  • Stabilizing a clip

Let me try this approach to my problem - can someone advise me on the simple step-by-step method of stablizing a clip.  I would like to (I THINK) keep each clip as a "standalone" processed clip identified by it's original numeric reference, and i'm not sure if i should leave AE open and running while i search for the next clip in my sequence to stablize, or shut it down after stablizing each clip, and if i should save the stablized clip as "clip33stablized" or something on that order, OR if none of that is necessary at all; i just need to assimilate the processed clip as it dynamically links back to Pr.
I am used to finding workarounds as an experienced AVID user, but am new to Pr - i have the complete suite CS5.5; plenty of horsepower dell 8300 8G at 3.4 Ghz  and 5TB  storage.
At this point, all i need to do with AE is stabilization, and have gotten it to work correctly - USUALLY - but have had a few quirky exceptions - namely, that the processed clip i end up with in Pr is NOT the clip i just stabilized...with the same result after several different approaches.
hopefully i have the vocabulary correct enough to explain myself..
    thanks for any help!

Kevin~  thanks for your offer to help with this...
attatched is the response i have written,  per your request for more details....
as a relavtive newbie, i am doing my best to assimilate the huge topic
of AE, but only want to use the stabilizer for now:
•What version of After Effects? Include the minor version number (e.g., After Effects CS5.5 with the 10.5.1 update).
Cs 5.5 with the 10.5.0.253 update
•Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
Entire package was installed less than 90 days ago – is there a more recent update?
•What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac".
    I’m running windows 7 home premium version 6.1 build 7601 SP1
•What kind(s) of source footage? When telling about your source footage, tell us about the codecs, not just the container types. For example, "H.264 in a .mov container", not just "QuickTime".    Please tell me how to get info per your suggestion (like H.264…) etc

•If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
Following is a step-by-step Sequence:  (I am only documenting this as I go, and may NOT be the precise
Steps I had taken before. )
    select clip on PrPro timeline, r click and select “replace with AE comp”; AE opens, and I name the project;
AE opens.  I select my footage from the project panel, where there are 3 items listed. 00003.mts (my footage), and
“MPEG” as the type…and aqua label  in the center with the standard AV file windows icon (a film strip with a
musical note superimposed) – above it is an  Item with the same name, 000003.mts, a film strip icon and
sandstone label; the preview at the topshows this as the 1440X1080 (1.33) composition panel item, and the
one below says “ZOOshoot linked comp #65”,the ZOOShoot being the name of the PrPro project.
At this point, the indicator bar color in the timeline panel has changed to aqua from sandstone and
composition panel has three tabs showing composition 000003.mts, footage 00003.mts,and layer 00003.mts.
I select layer, and the composition panel now shows the timeline ruler and expected icons along
the bottom of the panel.  I select Animation/Stabilize Motion from the top menu, and the stabilizer starts up, tracking
    it’s progress.
I can see on my other monitor that the clip I originally selected turned to a lilac color as soon as it was
linked to AE (not sure if before or after naming the clip). After the stabilizer completes, the clip area render bar in
PrPro turns yellow, and I “render entire work area”.  The clips plays normally.  The audio portion has not changed
Color, as expected, and I see from the descriptor on the audio portion that this particular clip had and extended
Duration, playing at 68.22 %, but apparently integrated into the stabilization, since the clip fits perfectly.
Step #2 – I select a second clip, later in the timeline,  right click and select “repl w AE comp” –, which is still running,
And I have NOT saved the previous clip  THIS time, there is  No request to name the project, which is a bit confusing to me, since THIS clip is definitely different, HOWEVER, AE responds with “saving project” popup window, and takes
A second to save it,  before The new clip actually appears in the project panel.  The appropriate three items appear
In the project panel, along with the original clip data that was already there.  Other than the clip numbers now being
00010, the linked comp number has incremented, as expected.  I select each “00010” item, and make sure that IT is
The image in the composition panel;.
AT this point, I am ceasing the processing, since I now have a situation where
The composition panel is showing inconsistent results in the tabs; i.e., composition 00010, footage 00010, and layer
00003.   I use ctrl-Z to back my way out, until there is NOTHING in the project panel,  and the selected clip
In PrPro has now reverted from it’s lilac color – I begin the process over, notice that AE does NOT request a project name,  but now the project panel has only items referring to clip 00010.   It may be that I have heretofore not
Observed each change along the way,  but, even though having gone through the “basics” tutorials many times,
Have found no reference to specific steps that I am missing.
•What were you doing when the problem occurred?    See above
•Has this ever worked before?  YES
•What other software are you running?   Usually nothing other than PrPro and AE, possibly Internet Explorer, and
MS Word, for reference and documentation.
•Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed?   Not that I am aware of…
•Tell us about your computer hardware. Include CPU type and number of processor cores, amount of RAM installed, GPU, number of disk drives, and how any external drives are connected.  Dell 8300 8 processors # 3.5 Ghz, 5TB storage
W 1.5 os drive, 3 external WD drives, 500G, 1T, 2T, those drives being USB
•Do you have any third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU)? NO
•Are you using OpenGL features in After Effects?   I guess not…(?)
•Does the problem only happen with your final output, RAM preview, or both?   Originally, before problems developed,
I was using no preview at all, just returning to PrPro and rendering the stabilized clip.
•Are you using Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing  NO
NOTE:   At this point, All I need to use in AE is the Stabilizer;  being referred to the tutorials that “open an entire
World” of movie manipulation and FX is not helpful; I am perfectly willing to study that portion that relates
To my issue here, but have spent way too much time with non-useful tutorials.   In the interim, it has been
Suggested that the entire issue is with the dynamic link, and that I could simply START the process in AE, and
Export the link to my PrPro project, which is an acceptable workaround for me.
    Thanks, Don.

  • Importing my video from my event library into my project library, it shows the full width of the clip, but on the viewing section, it's zoomed in and cut the sides of the video off.  How do I stop this from happening?

When importing my video from the event library to the project library, it's zooming in and
narrowing the width of my footage.  How do I stop this from happening?

In the project, double-click on the clip to open the Clip Inspector. In the Clip tab you will see an item about two thirds down labelled "Stabilization". If checked, uncheck the box "Smooth clip motion".
Stabilizing clips causes a zoomed in effect, with the extent of the zoom dependent upon how shaky the footage is. There is a slider beneath the check-box labelled "Maximum Zoom" - this can be draggged back and forth to adjust the zoom effect if desired, once the clip has been stabilized.
You may have chosen to analyze clips for stabilization when importing to iMovie (that's a choice provided by iMovie upon import). If so, it's best to turn off an option in iMovie's preferences. Go to this from the iMovie menu item iMovie>Preferences. Click on the Browser tab and deselect (uncheck) the box labelled "Automatically stabilize clips that have been analyzed".
I prefer to import clips without analyzing, as this speeds up the import process. Afterwards, in the Event you can check for any overly shaky clips, then analyze them in the Inspector. If necessary, once dropped into a Project, you can stabilize them as desired. You can also stabilize clips directly in the Project without having to first analyze them in the Event.

  • Stabilize a segment of a larger clip

Whenever I use a video stabilizer, it is usually applied to just a portion of a longer clip. It is therefore essential that any segment I stabilize match in position, rotation, scale (and even warp dtstortion, if this should be a factor) any segment start or end that might precede or follow it. Chris Meyer in his 'Instant Gratification' video on AdobeTV refers to 'corner pin' as a feature of the new WARP STABILIZER in After Effect CS5.5 but never subsequently addresses it. While WARP STABILIZER is overall the most brilliant stabilizer I've come across to date, it is the first I've ever seen that does not automatically produce a first frame or field output that matches the one input, and the last frame or field output with its corresponding input (unless the 'no motion' option is selected).
How do I achieve the start and/or end matching I require?

As far as I can tell, there are no properties that can be keyframed via Warp Stabilizer.  You may want to go with a hybrid of a warp stabilized clip that you animate with scale & position keyframes as necessary.  But first, try out the corner pin setting and see for yourself how it performs in your case.

  • Warp Stabilizing

Hi I have been having crashes all evening and very seriours problems. but after a number of restarts It all seams to steam from one clip with Warp stabilizer.
After reading info here in the discussion Warp stabilizeris has a problem.
It work fine for many days up untill I wan't to add a transition to the clip.
just like to find out if I should take alll my Stabilizing clip to AF.
    Kind regards
    trevor

If in doubt, render the stabilized clip to a file, import that file and replace the original in the sequence with the rendered file.   Don't forget to render some handles if you are looking to add cross fades.

  • Cropping lost when still created from a smoothcam'd clip

Just to report that when creating a still (shift-N) on an image into a smoothcam'd clip, the cropping is lost; it's as if the still was created from the default clip (ie, not smoothcam). As a matter of interest, doing the still from a stabilized clip using Lock&Load X, works as you would expect.

bugs (if we are really talking about a bug here) can best be reported directly to [Apple Final Cut Pro Feedback page|http://www.apple.com/feedback/finalcutpro.html].
Because Apple will not read this forum.
Also. You can export File > Export > Using Quicktime Conversion > Still Image. Then import the still image, to make a freeze frame with the cropping. (yes, I know, it is a workaround...)

  • Stabilize small jump within a long clip?

I have a 5-minute clip that was shot on a tripod. 99% of the footage is stable, but the camera "jumped" once in the middle of the clip. If I apply Warp Stabilizer to the entire clip, it gets confused because of the moving subject. If I chop the clip up to isolate the jump, then it is correctly stabilized, however there is a jump cut from the shot at 100% scale to the slightly scaled clip caused by Warp Stabilizer. Thus far, the best solution I have found is to keyframe the clip leading up to the stabilized clip from 100% scale to the new scale of the stabilized section, and do the same for anchor point, then repeat the process at the end of the stabilized clip. This process can be tedious and the end result still isn't perfect. Is there a way of telling Warp Stabilizer to only work on one section of the clip?
I know this is sort of a complex question, so please let me know if I can clarify anything. Thank you in advance for your help!

    As Ann says...
What would make it easier is to change the opacity on the leading clip and overlay it on the stabilized clip by one frame. If you have split the clips in an optimal place, the scaling should be fairly simple since the movement is not as quick. So make sure to split at a point where there is a slight pause in the action, just before the "jump" if at all possible. Then just line of the scale as required.
After the leading clip is scaled properly, put it back on the same track as the stabilized clip, back up to a few seconds before the split and put in a keyframe back to 100%. Reverse this process for the trailing clip.
It is not difficult, just a bit tedious.
It might be easier to do this on a new sequence, then use that new sequence like a clip in the main sequence.

  • Clips with warp stabilizer minimizes?

    Hi,
I have some interview clips on my V1 in premiere, and on the V2 I have some clips with motion which has the warp stabilizer on. When the V1 and the V2 overlaps, the warp stabilized clips is minimized and fills only a bit of the screen (at the top left corner). I have tried different settings, but it is still a problem.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Rameez
Not sure what to do here. I need to get something out and this issue is not letting me do this. I too am getting a weird flickering
on the clips that have a warp stabilizer effect on them.
I tried changing my frame rate to 30p from 29.97 and then switching to the playback to GPU Acceleration software only.
When I add this to the queue and export from Media Encoder, I still get the flickering. And then when I try top exporting from PP with the GPU acceleration software only selected,
it is giving me an unknown error after a min of trying to render.
I have tried exporting it several different ways and out if PP, still no luck.
Not sure how to reset my preferences.

  • Image stabilization not working in iMovie 9.0.7

Imported footage from Nikon V1 at 1080 30 fps. Tried to apply image stabilizaiton to some clips. iMovie analyzes clips for stabilization and the icon for stabilized clip appears and indicators for rough footage appear, but on playback, there is no difference, and the slider for stabilizaiton amount is gone from the inspector. I have stabilized clips before from other cameras, so I know what it should look like, but it apparantly doesn't work for video from this camera. And yes, I added the clips to the project before trying to view it, still no difference. Any ideas?

    I posted a solution at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2684460?threadID=2684460
    cheers!
