"Stacking" Components

I'm not really sure how to approach a GUI issue I'm facing. I've been playing around with JLayeredComponents but a.) can't get them working and b.) I'm not even sure that that would be the ideal solution, so...
I'm trying to create a JDialog. From a GUI standpoint, you can visualize it as any initialization or installation window (a primary JPanel that progresses through a series of different screens and back and next buttons on the bottom). There's no need to create new JDialogs each time the user clicks "back" or "next," I just need to update the JPanel within the JDialog.
I'm using NetBeans' GUI builder to do it all. I laid out all of the panels and the parent JDialog, I'm just not sure how best to "stack" the panels such that I can place one in front of the other.
The only caveat is that I would love to leave the GUI code to NetBeans as opposed to rebuilding all the panels from the ground-up with custom code.
Any ideas/suggestions? I figure this is a pretty common problem with standardized solutions; I'm just not aware of them.
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Yeah. This might be an ignorant question; I'm really not sure.
I mean, if I literally place the panels in the same place and setVisible there are all sorts of GUI artifacts dispersed around the panel. And it doesn't update well.
The JPanels have been developed. I just don't know how to "show them consecutively."
The naive:
mainPanel = panel1;(where mainPanel is the panel that actually exists in the JDialog and panel1 is one of the panels in my sequence) doesn't seem to work.
I apologize if this is a foolish question.

  • Potential memory leak in 11.2.0.1.0 cluster stack components

    Hi All,
We are running 11.2.0.1.0 RAC on OEL 5.5 and OEL 5.5. On all of our boxes, we have observed a gradual increase and filling of swap space. Swap usage slowly but steadily increase to a point where either the Node boots automatically or we have to manually restart it.
To get more insight into the issues, we recently upgraded one of the nodes to Oracle unbreakable kernel and installed smem to profile the memory consumption pattern. smem will give the process set size (RSS), the unique set size (USS) and the proportional set size (PSS) which is the unique set size plus a portion of the shared memory that is being used by this process.
It appears that there is a gradual increase in memory/swap consumption of some clusterware components. Also the weird part is that the process is filling up the swap space and not utilizing the unallocated RAM.

Thanks for pointing to MOS notes, they were quite helpful. Though sometime on our system, ohasd.bin consumes more resources. Is it safe to kill it?
Also, we have observed that there are multiple oraagents belonging to different users such as root, grid and oracle.
    grid 14620 1 0 20:32 ? 00:00:14 /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/bin/oraagent.bin

    root 14811 1 0 20:32 ? 00:00:38 /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/bin/orarootagent.bin
When these are killed, not all are re-spawned automatically - typically oraagent belonging to "oracle" user is left out. Is this an expected behaviour or it will cause some instability in the clusterware?

    Hi Michal,
Thank you very much for your answer, but want to know in detail (Technical Point of view) why it is not
possible. As we can use SLD of another server by maintaining details in SLDAPICUST transaction,
similarly cant we use java stack components of one server from ABAP stack of another PI Server.

  • Oracle technology stack

Hi. A question of terminology here:
What, exactly,is meant by Oracle technology stack? Is it a generic term to describe Oracle architecture?
This page http://awads.net/wp/2006/05/05/oracle-e-business-suite-technology-stack-and-products-cheat-sheet/ desribes E business suite and its 'technology stack' and it just looks like a reference to the way that Oracle architecture interacts with itself.
But when we choose, during cloning, the techstack option, this suggests something more specific.
Yet again, for example here http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/2008/12/top_2008_techstack_articles_for_ebs_11i_and_12.html there seems to be a more general reference to the way EBS works with the 'techstack'?
    What is the techstack??
    Thanks,
    DA

    Dan,
techstack (Technology Stack) components are database technology stack and application technology stack. In 11i, it is (8i/9i/10g) RDBMS and (8.0.6, iAS), and in R12 it is (10g/11g) RDBMS and (10.1.2.x AS + 10.1.3.x AS). Please refer to the installation manual (Installing Technology Stack Components) for details.

Edited by: SSNair on Oct 21, 2010 2:39 AM

Oracle used shared memory to implement the SGA, which constituted the largest memory consumption of the Oracle instance. The problem is that in many modern OS, including linux, it is hard to define the actual memory usage fo a software. This is because the memory used by a process is actually composed of shared (e.g., shared memory, shared library, executable code) and private (e.g., the heap, the stack) components. Utilities like top, ps, etc reports all memory visible by a process, disregarding whether it is shared or not. As a result, the total of VIRT etc will be inflated by the shared components. For a more accurate figure of memory usage, shared memory / library / code should be counted once.
Before 11g, Oracle used System V ipc, and the amount of memory allocated can be checked using ipcs. In 11g, Oracle switched to /dev/shm, use df to check the memory allocation. (Thanks user11150436)
The "Mem used" figure in top is the actual usage of the memory: shared memory and library are not multi-counted. However, Linux will always cache (read before actually requested) and buffer (write after signalling completion) disk I/O. Therefore, "Mem used" is almost always very close to the amount of physical memory. "Mem used" - "buffers" - "cached" reflects the memory actually used by the OS and all programs more accuately.
And you can use the pmap utility to check the memory map. Then you classify the sharable and unsharable memory usage to calculate a more accurate result suiting your need. You need OS knowledge to understand the output.

  • Platform Migration Clarification

    Greetings,
We are doing a platform migration of an E-Business R12.1.1 environment. We originally got to R12.1.1 by directly upgrading from 11.5.9.2 back in December, 2009.
Our source platform is: W2003 runs Apache and Forms, and "everything else" is on HPUX PA-RISC. Our target platform is HPUX Itanium. We will not be moving over our W2003 node; rather, the HPUX Itanium will do everything (that's the plan for now).
In following Metalink Note 438086.1, the last notation on Section 1 states: "if you have upgraded the tech stack components to higher versions than those included with the 12.0.4 install media, they will have to be upgraded..."
I would like to clairify what this means. My interpretation is that when we run Section 2, Step 6 "Install the Application Tier Technology Stack" that we are to use the R12.1.1 DVD media. Is this assumption correct?
    Thanks...colin

    Colin,
Your assumption is correct. In addition to that, you will need to consider upgrading to the latest OracleAS 10g and Developer 10g patchset (_if applicable_) as per (Note: 454811.1 - Upgrading to the Latest OracleAS 10g 10.1.3.x Patch Set in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12) and (Note: 437878.1 - Upgrading Forms and Reports 10g in Oracle Applications Release 12).
You could log a SR to confirm this with Oracle support.
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • The Vertical FlowLayout that doesn't Exist?

Ok, I've looked through the forum, and checked on a popular search engine, and it seems to me that there is no such thing as a vertically oriented FlowLayout. But why not? Is it difficult/impossible to implement? Please, someone, explain.
Some suggested solutions to this involve using a vertical BoxLayout, but that just seems ugly, what with the way components get stretched to fit the entire height of the window. Of course one can set the maximum sizes of the components and so on, but it seems to me that that's just making things more complicated than (I think) they ought to be. And to make matters worse the components are all crushed together with no gaps in between..
Surely a LayoutManager that stacks components vertically at their preferred sizes by default would be a fundamentally useful thing?
Well anyway... not much of a question (more of a moan), never-the-less, if anyone knows why a vertical FlowLayout doesn't exist as standard please let me know... Then later I'll have a moan about the GridLayout asking why it doesn't keep each row and column only as tall and as wide as it needs to be.
    Regards

I know from the name you would never guess it could do a vertical FlowLayout, but it turned out to be far more flexible than I ever imagined it would be. In your case the code would be something like:
    RelativeLayout rl = new RelativeLayout(RelativeLayout.Y_AXIS, 5);
    //rl.setAlignment(RelativeLayout.LEADING);
    rl.setAlignment(RelativeLayout.CENTER);
    JPanel panel = new JPanel( rl );
    panel.add(component1);

  • Which pieces of the repository?

The WebLogic install identifies the Repository Creation Utility (RCU) as a required additional download. And the RCU wants to create and populate a large number of database schemas.
Our DBA's are understandably skeptical. So I'm trying to find out which of those schemas are actually required for the way we plan to use the application server. Haven't managed to find the right piece of documentation yet.
Our initial use will be migrating from an existing 9.0.4 OAS server on which we're running Forms, Reports, Web PL/SQL DAD's, and Discoverer. Nothing fancy, no SOA, and our Java apps are on another app server that we're not including in this phase.
Which database schemas are required or recommended to support those products?
    Thanks,
    -- jim

    Jim,
Unfortunately most readers of this forum are not familiar with those other products. WebLogic Server by itself does not need any database tables as a minimum requirement. As WebLogic Server users, we simply see them as yet another application using WebLogic Server. From what I understand, the RCU is typically used by other "upper stack" components like SOA Suite and WebCenter.
You'll probably be best off by posting in the forums of the other products as to whether or not they require RCU to be run.

It is ok to follow this approach? 1) What about the patches you have applied since the time of the installation? Doing a fresh installation will not include these patches.
    2) The supported method to migrate an Oracle Apps database between two Operating Systems which are not binary compatible is by using export/import. I believe transportable Tablespace has some limitations and would not work for such migration.

one thing important while generating .pll/.fmb thru adadmin it asks for FND_INSTALL_PROCESSES & AD_DEFERRED_JOBS to be dropped, if we select to drop it will drop this tables and patch process will not continue if these tables were dropped and created for .pll/.fmb generation
How to avoid this  & to apply patch cleanly
    Thanks,
    Alig

  • SOLMAN 3.2 abap only install. Adding Java?

    I'm running SOLMAN 3.2 SP10+ on WEBAS 6.20.
Is there a note anywhere that tells me how I might add the java stack components to this install?
We had some advice early on in our implementation that said we didnt really need the Java stack.  As we move forward with BI and EP it has become pretty clear that we should at least have it on our SOLMAN install.
    Thanks in Advance,
    M.
P.S.  Also thanks for the SOLMAN forum. Finally :P

    Hello Michael
For normal SolMan operations you don't need the java stack (but a windows client! SolMan Transactions don't work with the JavaGui).
If you have a Netweaver04 system with SP-Stack >= 11 you can use the Solution Manager Diagnostics as a separate installation, see the link
    http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SCENARIO=01100035870000000202&_SHORTKEY=01100035870000634682&
I cannot tell more, because have decided to wait for SolMan 4.0 (March 2006) which will have it incorporated.

  • Split setup for EBS R12

    Hi all,
I want to have a split setup for EBS. Say I have 2 servers, and I will use 1 for the DB and the other for Apps.
Though I have not tried it yet, because we only have 1 test server to practise.
My question is....is my understanding correct? That to install a split config of EBS.
    1. I have to run RAPIDWIZ on the 1st machine(server) and install the DB tier. and
    2. Run RAPIDWIZ on the 2nd machine and install the Apps tier.
    Thanks

You can use a special Rapid Install startup option to upgrade an existing database node or Applications node to a new technology stack, without having to perform a complete system upgrade. With this option, you can install new ORACLE_HOMEs and generate configuration files (using AutoConfig) that will switch your existing system to use the upgraded components. In addition to running Rapid Install, there are additional tasks associated with a complete technology stack upgrade.
Note: For the initial release of Oracle Applications Release 12, no technology stack upgrade options are applicable, since the latest core components have been included as part of the release. Options to upgrade will be provided as new components become available and are certified.
    Technology Stack means:
    1) Oracle 10g Database home (10g ORACLE_HOME)
    2) Application Tier homes (10.1.2 and 10.1.3 AS)
Refer to (Chapter 4 - Installing Technology Stack Components) of the Installation manual, it is explained properly there.

  • Live veiw

Hi I have a problem it’s sort of similar to the last one I had, some of you will know I have recently purchased a new computer you helped me with a problem or two, well I’m no having much luck, it turns out the mother board had a few problems of its own, any way they have now supplied me with a replacement, and I have to start over.
Any way I have reloaded Dreamweaver and also my sites that bit of it as gone a lot better than the first time, only problem I have is when I go to Live View, I have a window come up that says preview pages with server-side code, you need a testing server. Would you like to specify one, well on my old computer I used the same site as the website does, just by ticking both boxes in the server manager; this worked just fine on the old computer but doesn’t want to on the new one. I just get a not found, it says this: The requested URL/website/index.php was not found on this server. But it’s there if you go to the site the page is working just fine. Thanks Jeff Lane
