Station global run time

Hi, hope someone can give me some advice on this one.
I have 2 seperate 1D string arrays returning to Station Globals in Teststand 4.0 from seperate LAbview VIs.
The first array contains the names of LIN signals (which all stay the same for the length of test)
The second array contains the current state of the LIN signals ( which can change as the DUT activates its functionality )
For example, position 2 of the first array contains the string "TrunkLidState".
And position 2 of the second array can change between the following, "open", "close"
What I need to do is test for a status of any of the signals in such a way that I can say  :
if Trunklidstate = "open" then Pass
        else
if Trunklidstate = "closed" then Fail
rather than going :
    if Stationglobals.LIN_Array[1]= "open" then Pass
       else
    if Stationglobals.LIN_Array[1]= "closed" then Failed
because "Trunklidstate" may not always be in the second element of the array.
Thanks

Hey Mike,
The problem here is that you don't know where in the array "TrunkLidState" will reside.  Therefore you will have to search the array for that index.  Then use that index to index the other array.
Option 1- Have a 3rd VI that takes in 4 parameters: LIN State, LIN Names, State, Condition.  State = "TrunkLidState", Condition="open".  Inside the VI use the Search 1D Array function to get the index of State.  Then use the Index Array function to get the status (either open or closed).  Then compare that with the Condition.  If it equals the condition then return True if not then return False.  This could be a Pass/Fail Step type.  I have attached the VI for you.
Option 2- Make the first array static so that you always know "TrunkLidState" will be in the same position.
I'm sure there are other options but these two came off the top of my head.
Let me know if you have any questions about this.  or if I'm missing the point completely.  I do that sometimes.
Later,

  • Design issue with sharing LV2 style global between run-time executables

    Hi,
Just when I though that I had everything figured out, I ran into this design issue.
The application that I wrote is pretty much a client-server application where the server publishes data and the client subscribes data using data sockets. Once the client gets all the data in the mainClient.vi program, I use LV2 style (using shift registers) to make the data global to all the other sub-vi’s. So the LV2 is in initialize mode in the mainClient.vi program and then in the sub-vi’s the LV2 is in read mode. Also, I had built the run time menu for each sub-vi that when an item is selected from the menu, I would use the get menu selection to get the item tag which will be the file nam
e of the sub-vi and open the selected sub-vi using vi server. This all worked great on my workstation where I have labVIEW 7.0 Express installed. But the final goal is to make exe’s for each of these sub-vi’s and install runtime on the PC’s that do not have labVIEW installed. Of course when I did that only the mainClient.exe program was getting the updated data from the server but the sub-vi’s were not getting the data from the mainClient.exe. I did realize that the reason for this is due to the fact that I had compiled all the sub-vi’s separately and so the LV2 vi is now local to each executable (i.e. all executables have their own memory location). Also, the run-time menu did not work because now I am trying to open an executable using vi server properties.
To summarize, is there a way to share LV2 style global's between executables without compiling all of the sub-vi’s at one time? I tried using data-sockets (local-host) instead of LV2 st
yle gloabls to communicate between the sub-vi’s but I ran into performance issues due to the large volume of data.
I would really appreciate it if anyone can suggest a solution/alternative to this problem.
    Thanks
    Nish

    >
If the LV2 global is loaded statically into your mainClient.vi, then any
other application can connect to the exe and get a reference to the VI
using the VI name. This gives you a VI reference you can use to call
    the VI. Ye
s, the values will be copied between applications. That is
why you need to add access operations to the global that returns just
the info needed. If you need the average, do that in the global. If
you need the array size, do that in the global. Returning the entire
array shouldn't be a common operation on the LV2 style global anyway.

Your app does need to watch both the amount of data being passed across
the network, and the amount being shared between the apps. You might
    want to consider puttin
g the VIs back into the main app. What is the
reason you are breaking them apart for?

  • Error while accessing station global in LabVIEW

I am trying to access the teststand station global value in the LabVIEW using activex methods.
If I am reading default station global (TS.LastUserName) i am able to read the value.
However if i am trying to read the value of the string station global which i am updating through running sequence i am getting an error as follows:
"Unknown variable or property name 'ExecutionTime'.
Error accessing item 'ExecutionTime'. in GetGlobal.vi" where ExecutionTime is the name of my station global.
    Error code is -17306.
    What is going wrong?

    Couple of suggestions for you:
If you are trying to read the execution time in your user interface, I suggest: http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/370052K-01/tsapiref/reftopics/obsolete_thread_postuimessage_... method to pass data to UI
Also, station globals are not dynamic like other variables (Locals / FileGlobals etc) which means that you wont get an updated value until the stationglobals.ini file is saved. So depending on what you are trying to read, this may or may not be your best choice.

  • Station Globals in Deployed System

    Hi,
Do StationGlobals get deployed automatically as do other variables?  I'm trying to deploy a system that uses a property loader to load several values into StationGlobals within the "Setup" sequence.  It works fine in the sequence editor but when deployed, a run-time error occurs saying the station global doesn't exist.  Do I need to do something different during deployment?  (I'm using the TS deployment utility and am using a LV operator interface)
    Thanks, Adam

    Hi Adam,
The best place to look in the TestStand Reference Manual (found inside the TestStand Bookshelf).  Here, Chpater 14 covers Deploying as well as some common deployment situations.  There is also a section in the TestStand Help that discusses deployments and the Deployment Utility.

  • Loading the final static variables at run time.. Please help

    Hello, fellow developers & Gurus,
Please help me figure out the best way to do this:
I need to load all my constants at run time. These are the public static final instance variables. The variables values are in the DataBase. How do I go about loading them.

Your original question was diffeent, but your further posts show what you really want to do:
    1) all constants in 1 class
    2) available readonly for other classes
    3) updatable during runtime by changing in the database
    Did I understand you right?
Then smiths' approach solves point 2):
Instead, make the variables available through a method
call - that way you avoid the whole final variable
    versus read-only attributes problem.
//GLOBAL VARIABLES EXPOSED AS PUBLIC PROPERTIES
    public final class GlobalProperties
    public static int getTableSize();
    public static int getRowSize();
Each "constant" should be a private static variable, and these methods simply return their values.
The variables are initialized in a static initializer by accessing the db. Ok.
You habe a table with one row containing as columns all the constants.
A method readConstants() does a "select constant1, constant2, ... from const_table" and sets all the variables.
The static initializer calls this method.
    Right?
Ok, then you simply call readConstants() everytime you want to synchronize with the actual content of const_table.
    Was it this?

    Hi Bastain,
Assuming your using the Batch Process Model, you can programatically insert a new SN into the correct parameter in the postUUT callback sequence.
This sequence has access to the UUT.SerialNumber parameter so you can use a File Global to pass the SN from the main sequence to the postUUT callback.
Here is an example of what I mean.

  • Station Globals modified externally are not reflected

    Hi,
I am having an UI developed in CVI(EXE1) which runs a teststand sequence. The flow of sequence is controlled by Station Globals.
The Station Globals i am trying to control from another user interface so that the flow in EXE1 will be exrcised. But some reason the updated station globals are not reflected in EXE1.
In the sequence i have used Engine.ReloadGloabls() but some reason the values are not reflected.
Anyone can help me out on this.

    Hey ramjeev,
Are you certain that the globals are being saved from the location you edited them before you call the Engine.ReloadGlobals()? Also, as mentioned in the function help here, you should clear or destroy your existing references to the globals before calling the ReloadGlobals() method. This is because any existing references will retain their values rather than being updated with the method call.
However, I'm not sure if this is the best approach for your application. Typically, Station Globals are used for configuration settings, particularly those that need to persist between executions. Since you're wanting to control this test sequence from another user interface, I wonder if UIMessages or a synchronization object such as a queue or notifier would be better for this purpose. Have you explored any of these options?

  • Using run-time prompts in BRs for Planning 11.1.1

    Hi to all!
I want to create a run-time prompt for periods for which the calculation is to be done in my business rule. So via Tools>Variables I created a global variable of MemberRange type, then I inserted this variable in the Fix statement of my business rule in Calculation Manager but the validation of the rule fails stating that the BR has a run-time prompt which is not allowed. I have not found anything in the documentation on how to allow runtime prompts in a BR, so I would be very grateful for hints on how to correct it.

    Hi,
    For global variables:
    Run EAS console
Right click on your Essbase server (e.g. localhost)
    Edit - Variables
Set names and values of global variables for all apps and all dbs (if you need so)
These names of global variables you can use in your BRs and CalcMngr scripts.
    For local BR variables:
    Run EAS
    Create new BR
    Go to "Variables" tab
Add local variables as "Member" type / "Run-time prompt" usage type
These names of global variables you can use in your BRs scripts.
    For global BR variables:
    Run EAS
    Open BR - Global variables
Create new global variable as "Member" type / "Run-time prompt" usage type
These names of global variables you can use in your BRs scripts.

  • Break execution after custom run-time error handler callback

I am using Teststand 2010 SP1 and have written a custom runtime error handler based on the ErrorHandlerExample example that ships with TestStand. It has been implemented as a StationPostStepRuntimeError callback in my Station Callbacks folder.  I have modified the example as follows:
    (1) Added code to turn off the UUT transmitter if it was on.
    (2) Added a call to an executable that sends an email to the currently logged in user.
    (3) Calls the standard TestStand run-time error dialog using the Engine DisplayRunTimeErrorDialog method.
    (4) Processes the user's selection, then turns on the UUT transmitter for any option other then Abort.
The callback also checks the status of the Break and "Don't Show again for this execution" options selected by the user.  If the user selects Break then the only option I can find is to call the API Execution.Break() method which breaks the execution right there in my callback. The user then has to single step there way out of the callback.   Is there a way of instructing TestStand to complete the callback execution and break immediately after completing the callback (i.e.at the step following the error)?  I've zipped up and attached my modified sequence.
Alternatively, is there a better way of doing this?
    Regards,
    David

Didn't have a chance to try it yet but maybe StepOut is your solution?
    From the TS Help:

    Execution.StepOut
    Purpose
Resumes the execution from a suspended state and then suspends the execution again after execution of the current sequence completes.

  • LabVIEW 8.0 Run-Time engine & shared variables

Has LabVIEW 8.0 Run-Time Engine the shared variable's support, I wonder?
The thing is that .exe with globals/locals runs alright, but beeing replaced with shared variables it refuses to run.
What's wrong? May be need in library(s) absend?

You can use the Shared Variable in the Run-Time Engine (you do not need DSC).
Can you be more specific about what happens when it refuses to run? Are you seeing an error message?
If you are using Network-Published shared variables, they need to be deployed before you run the application.  You can either deploy them manually with the project, or your application can programmatically deploy them.  You can find some more information about this in the LabVIEW Help under "Shared Variables and Stand-Alone Applications or Shared Libraries" (follow this link and scroll down to the bottom):
