Stock Valuation Method - Freeze SAP - Changing from FIFO to Moving Average

When you select and change more that 20 items at one go, from FIFO to Moving Average, it causes SAP to Freeze; Also if you do them one-by-one, after about 30-40 itms, SAP freezes.
Is this knows?

Thanks to all,
But I am running SAP 8.8 PL15; working on the server console, single user, tried several option, restarting Server, SQL, stopped TomCat etc, played with threads etc.
The DB size is 510MB and 1,500 stock items; they have about 7 warehouses, automatically created to each stock item.
I really think it is a problem on 8.8, so I will log a call with AG Support.

  • FIFO with moving average price

we are using for own produced goods "moving average price" and Material ledger. At month end we setlle production variance . The system also creates an entry for ML "price variance" (which is the percentage of the prodcution variance for the remained stock).
When we run the document extract (MRF3), with the option of "Order settlement", the costs include not only the production variance but also the ML line. That is too high.
When we run it without selecting "Order settlement" the adjustement is the reversal of the price variance (the ML line item). That is too low.
The total costs should be only the total production costs.
One cannot exlude it by the material movement as both "price variance" and "production variance" is not part of a material movement.

    hi,
We need to follow the steps if we need to valuate our inventory by means of FIFO Scenario :
    1. In T-code OMWE, activate the balance sheet valuation as LIFO Valuation not active & FIFO Valuation active.
    2. In T-code MRLH, FIFO Maintained at company code or plant level.
    3. In T-code OMWL, set mean receipt price at valuation ares level if Plant or at company code level if at company code level.
    4. Configure FIFO Valuation ares for teh respective year.
    5. In T-code OMWP, Configure FIFO Method.
    6. In T-code OMW4, Movemnet type settings for FIFO maintained. Generally, no chnages made.
    7. Select material for FIFO in Tcode MRF4.
    8. Execute FIFO Valuation- Tcode MRF1.
    Hope it helps..

  • Best method to transport changes from DEV to Prod Environment

    Hi SDNers,
    I have a requirement here :
I have made some changes to the DEV environment, which i want to move to the production Environment.
Changes mainly include the Structural changes, XSD's, Import maps, Remote systems, Export Maps, Validations etc. Please note that I DO NOT WANT to transport the data from DEV to Prod environment.
    I can see 2 options available :
    1. Export/Import Repository schema - But as far as i know, the import and export maps will not be transported auomatically through Export/Import Schema.
    2. Archive/Unarchiving Without data -
    Here are my questions :
    1. Is the 2nd option feasible looking at the changes I need to transport? If yes, is there any recommended guide available by SAP suggesting the 2nd option for trnasport mechanism.( Please sendme the links)
    2. Will it affect the data in Prodcution in any chance?
    3. Is there anything Archiving/Unarchiving without data cannot handle.
    4. Will it impact any other normal running of Production environment.
    Please respond to my queries.
    Thanks and Regards
    Nitin Jain

    Hi Nitin,
If you use Archive/UnArchive option without data then you cannot persists the PROD env since you need to UnArchive the entire repository which is empty and then you need to move the PROD data into this repository.
    1. Is the 2nd option feasible looking at the changes I need to transport? If yes, is there any recommended guide available by SAP suggesting the 2nd option for trnasport mechanism.( Please sendme the links)
Ans. I don't think, 2nd option is feasible as a mentioned earlier. This option should be used when we need the entire repository without data which is not the case you are looking for.
    2. Will it affect the data in Prodcution in any chance?
Ans. If you are using 2nd option then this question is not related because when you UnArchive, you will get the new repository so this wont affect the existing repository at all.
    3. Is there anything Archiving/Unarchiving without data cannot handle.
    Ans. Workflows
    4. Will it impact any other normal running of Production environment.
Ans. If you are using 1st option then you need to unload the PROD repository first and then import the changes. For option 2 its not related.

  • Change costing method from Moving Average to Standard costing

    Hi Expert
I need to find out the prerequisites for changing the valuation method of an item from Moving average to Standard costing.
(In the forums i found a note which discusses the change of costing method from FIFO to Moving average.)
It would be greatly appreciated if i can get a reply ASAP
    Thank you

    Apsara

    Hi Son
Let me rephrase my previous question as i have asked it incorrectly.
Step 1. Make all quantities of the stock zero and also close all Open PO, SO etc
Step 2. change the inventory valuation method
Step 3. Enter new stock prices for the standard cost through stock revaluation. My question is can this be (step 3) done through DTW
    Thank you

  • FIFO to weighted Average method

    Hi Gurus
my client want to switch from FIFO to Weighted Average method in INVENTORY,can someone please assist as to what the possible issues that might arise, the step or any procedure that need to be followed and as to whether is safe to make that change.
your assistance will be greatly appreciated

    Hi Chithra,
I'm a bit confused by your question. FIFO is just an inventory management method, while moving average price is simply a way SAP calculated the value of the stock. How is your company keep track of the inventory value in FIFO? What kind of calculation or formula does your company apply to get the month-end closing value? There shouldn't be much impact, I think. Because, at the initial stage, you will be using the value from old system, upload it to SAP to use it as opening value for your stock.

  • Results analysis: Valuation method 15 (RRB)

    Hi experts,
Can i have a detailed example for posting lines for RA valuation method :
15 - Derive revenues from resource-related billing of dynamic line items
    warm regards
    ramSiva

    Hai Mikhail
As u mentioned u set the RA method for POC3 in OKG3.
Assuming maintained in OKG3 - the status control ,profit Basis,Valuation Level and its Minimum Values.
Is the RA version been maintained in  OKG2 ?
In OKG2 - need to maintain the RA version with respect to the Controlling Area like 0 or 1.
Is OKG8 has been maintained on the Posting Rules - means where the RA version should have the corrsponding Profit & loss account number and Balance sheet account number.
Kindly check and verify according to the relevant RA used/picked using OKG1 in Config - OKG2(maintain RA versions), OKG3(valuation methods for RA), Define Line ID's , OKG5 ( Assignment of Cost elements for WIP and RA) , OKG4( update of WIP calculation and RA) , OKG8 ( Posting rules in WIP and RA) .
If all these maintained u will definetelu get the KKA2 result.

  • Changing of Inventory Valuation:  Standard to Moving Average Price

I work at a service-based company and have also been asked to research the impact involved with switching our inventory from standard price to moving average price.
Scenario:  Change material type TRAD (trading goods) from standard price to MAP.
Process:  Change settings in SPRO at the level of u201CDefine Attributes of Material Typesu201D.  Currently, this is set for u201CStandard priceu201D with the indicator u201CPrice ctrl mandatoryu201D set.  Upon change to u201CMoving average price/periodic unit priceu201D, Iu2019m thinking I need to de-activate the u201CPrice ctrl mandatoryu201D field so any current materials with an u201CSu201D in the Price control field on the Material Master Accounting 1 tab can be changed to u201CVu201D.  Is this correct?  Also, is there a program that already exists to mass update the Price control field on the Material Master?  If not, I was looking to create a CATT for this changeu2026.any other ideas?  In some of the forum posts it was mentioned to use t-code MR21 however, even with the u201CPrice ctrl mandatoryu201D field de-activated, the Price control column is grayed out.
It was mentioned in a previous post that all open documents (PO to IR) need to be completed before changing the price control setting, at what point does this stop the process?  Does SAP generate a system error message?
Also, any suggestions as to when this price switch is best to take place like after inventory?
Are the above mentioned areas the only areas I should be concerned about or am I missing some areas that should be addressed?
P.S. We do not use have our ML (material ledger) activated or use split valuation.
    Thanks~
    Dawn

    Hi,
If you want to change material from standard to moving average price, Follow the below process
1)first the material quantity and value should be zero
2)if you want to keep value and quantity and want to change price control in future you have to create new material with price control "V' and lock the previous material for posting.

  • SAP Note 209864 - Moving average price is disproportionately large

    Dear All,
We are having problems similar to what are described in the SAP Note 209864.
We run the example as decribed in the note on our development server and got the same results.  Then, we run the tractsaction OMC0 to set the tolerance upper and lower limits to 10% for the moving average variance and run the example again but still got the same result.  We do not know why.
In our production environment, some purchased materials may be returned to our warehouse from produciton after their stock quantities reach zero (and therefore their total stock values as well).  If in the time between the material reaches zero stock value and any left over materials are returned to the warehouse, there are good receipts from our suppliers for those materials and the prices are much different from the original moving average prices (e.g. replacement parts that are free of charge).  The value of the subsequent materials returned from the production to the warehouse will be valuated incorrectly.
We would like to control the vairance to a pre-defined percentage, e.g. 10-20%.
    Please help.
    Best regards,
    Nelson

  • Change valuation method from moving average to FIFO

We have incorrectly given valuation method for our raw materials to moving average instead of FIFO. Now, we have a lot of transactions and cannot change the method after a transaction is done for any item. I want to know if this solution will work:
    1. create new database with item and business master data, chart of accounts, item groups as before
    2. change valuation method of all items
    3. Import GRPO, Excise and A/P invoices from old database
Does step 3 create its own JEs?? If it does, then my problem will be solved.

  • How I can change Valuation Method from Moving Average to Standar

    Hi Experts:
How I can change Valuation Method from Moving Average to Standar for an item that has bookings. We running Sap Business One 2007 A, PL 45...
    Thanks very in advance.
    Claudia

    Hi
You can change the valuation method, but for that you need to have zero physical stock for that item.
Make a Goods issue entry for that Item for all the warehouses, change the method and make goods receipt entry for that item for all the warehouse.

  • Change of Valuation Method

    Dear All
Is it possible to Change the valuation method from FIFO to LIFO or Moving Average Price, when the Stocks are available in factory

Standard to MAP and vice versa are very well explained in the document provided by Ramana on page 31. Thanks Ramana!
As far as the FIFO and LIFO valuation are concerned, the system continues to maintain in standard or MAP, as setup by the price control indicator, S or V. What the system does is, at the period end, finds what would be the value of the closing stock, if FIFO or LIFO is method is followed. It is only relevant to valuation of closing inventory. <b>It is for information purpose</b>, but still if you want to value the inventory on FIFO or LIFO basis, then <b>you can set up the update indicator</b>. If it is done so, then the value proposed by LIFO/FIFO analysis is updated, <b>as if it were a price change.</b>
In OMWE you can <b>parallely maintain both LIFO and FIFO</b> active.

  • Changing from Standard cost to FIFO

    Hi Experts,
One of my client want to change from standard cost to FIFO.
Can you please specify what precautions should I take before proceeding this change ?(system wise/accounting )
(I am aware of back up procedures, please donot specify that procedures)
What are the things I should be aware of ?(system wise )
    Thank you
    bishal

    Hi,
Issue all the stock. After that you can change the valuation method.
This is a good time to see if everything is alright with the system.
When all the stock has been issued the following should be true:
    - Inventory Audit Report for all items and all warehouses should be 0 (zero)
    - The balance of all the stock accounts should at this time be 0 (zero)
If this is not the case. Contact support.
I take it for granted that you will do this in a testenvironment before doing it on the productive database.
    Hope it helps.

  • Changing from Periodic inventory system to SAP

    Hi All,
I have an accounting questions regarding company that switching from Periodic Inventory system to SAP's perpetual inventory system.
For company that practices Periodic Inventory System, the method to calculate cost of goods sold = opening stock balances + purchases - closing stock balances. All these is reflected in the P&L statement.
When they switch to SAP, do they need to enter all these figures into SAP for the opening balances?
As SAP will not have opening balance stock, closing stock and purchases accounts, do they have to create these accounts in P&L just to take in the balances?
Does anyone have implemented for company that changing from periodic to perpetual inventory system? How do you take in the opening balances? if possible please give example, thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    MH

    Hi All,
Thanks for the reply. But what is the variance that you guys are talking about? Take example:
    Old system:
    Opening Stock balance = $ 5,000
    +Purchases                  = $20,000
    -Closing Stock balance  = $ 9,000
    Balance                        = $16,000
The amount that goes into Asset is Closing Balance $9,000 and the amount goes to P&L as COGS is $ 16,000? The rest for $20,000 and $ 5,000 can be ignore?
Thanks in advance if anyone can answer my question here.
    Regards,
    MH

  • Sub Contracting in FIFO Valuation Method

    Dear All,
I am facing one serious problem while using Subcontracting Addon.
We have developed Sub Contracting Add-on based on Standard Valuation Method and it is working fine.
But when we use FIFO Valuation method then it will not allow.
So could you please guide me the process/procedure how to implement Sub Contracting in FIFO Valuation Method.
Means what are changes needs to make it success in FIFO.
    Thanks
    Vikas

    Hi
Yes its right not to change the earlier valued items on one costing method to another.
Imp. to note that, for manufacturing/sub-contracting the best costing method is Standard. Because, in manufacturing processes, its very much impossible to track the exact in and out of material as per FIFO; costing method comes into picture as you made some inward and outward or some movement of material, i.e. in case of purchasing material FIFO starts acting as you start consuming the materials or you transfer the material from one warehouse to another, other than in which you have received the material. When you have material on floor, its quite impossible to track the exact movement of material, means which material is actually being processed on the floor. So, If we use FIFO for such items, then actual costing will be always different from executed/system costing, Also, FIFO is suggested for only those business practices who are following the JIT principle. But, by having Special as costing method for manufacturing items, we avoid such problems to have actual costing, though it may again differ from actual costing, but overall as per the business experience we come to know COGS to actual basis.
In Special Costing method, it's recommendable to revise the Standard cost of the items, periodically.
