Strange Access Connections toolbar icon
Can anyone explain what the X means in this screenshot? I am online and able to surf, so not sure what it means. Thanks

Access Connections and Tools won't install properly
I have followed advice uninstalled the wireless driver, access connections, hotkey, power manager. . Reinstalled all ( latest versions) except access connection. Wireless connections work correctly and all hot keys function appropriately ( including Fn +F5 ). Then I let TVSU download Access connections. An icon is placed in the task tray. Clicking on it nothing happens. Also none of the hot keys work including the blue ThinkVantage key. Once I uninstall Access connection I am back in business with the wireless connection and the hot keys working. ( for all these installs I turned off the Microsoft virus scanner and the firewall).
Have similar problem with ThinkVantage tools in that I get the Icon in the task tray and then the program freezes. No problem in reinstalling PC doctor5
T60 series2007 Windows XP professional pack3.Hi dulverton,
I find lenovo drivers and software rather eccentric; since they need to be installed in a particular order to work properly.
First uninstall your wireless driver and access connections, thereafter reboot your system. Then install wireless driver first, again reboot, subsequently install access connections, reboot again.
Further this is the order in which the following drivers must be installed for each of them to function desirably:-
1) Lenovo PM driver
2) Lenovo System Interface Driver
3) Hotkey driver
4) Wireless driver software [reboot]
5) Access Connections [reboot]
Hope it helps.

Solved!
Go to Solution.I share your pain with same Intel WiFi Link 1000 bgn. After many, many hours yesterday I am now solidly running Wireless N at 144 Mbps on a LinkSys E4200, 99% reception from 30 feet away.
Previous to yesterday I could not get 'N' to work at all.
First, if you have a newer dual frequency Router, this Intel adapter only supports 2.4ghz..
1. I am using Access Connections 5.85, Windows 7
2. Router: 2.4 Ghz Network Mode: Mixed
3. On my LinkSys router Channel: Auto NEVER worked for either 'G' or 'N'. I picked channel 4 by chance and things got better. No further experiments.
3. Channel Width: Auto (20mhz or 40mhz).
4. Earlier forums indicate WPA2-P and AES must be selected. That's what I am running.
5. Numerous references to "power" conflicts. Set all Power Management to Maximum Power.
(Control Panel -> Device Manager ->Network Adapters -> Intel WiFi Link 1000 bgn -> Power Management)
(Access Connections -> Wireless Settings -> 4. Advanced Configuration-> Maximum Performance)
If you followed these steps, Wireless G should be working stabily for you now.
Now for the secret sauce to make Wireless N work: go to http://communities.intel.com/message/82098#82098
See Feb 3, 2010 post How to get 5100 AGN to connect at N speed?
I am indebted to this guy.
Save the instructions! For some reason my EDGE 14 wireless totally quit this week and that's what sent me down this wireless rabbit hole again. At least this time I was able to make N mode work for the first time.
Frustrated but relieved,

Access Connections icon on the left side instead of the right side on taskbar
As stated in the title of this post the icon of Access Connection 5.72 is on the left side. The only way to have it correctly on the right side is to go to 'Toolbars' on the task bar -> uncheck Access Connections -> apply -> recheck Access Connections -> apply -> ok
Lenovo, please fix this@kingskawn,
Could you let me know where can I obtain this SCCM software so I may try to replicate this bug?
Also do update the TVAC to the latest version.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-73682
I understand you are using Update Retriver to download the software but there are some delays in the Update Retriver compared to the Lenovo Support site. Therefore try installing the latest TVAC and then install the SCCM software and see the bug still occur.

Access Connection Tray Icon disappear
Hi, I got a problem on a T61p model 8889-AB5 owned by my boss. The ThinkVantage Access Connections tray icon was disappeared occasionally. It is noticed that below registry keys were missed and I needed to add them back to get the tray icon displayed.ACTray=C:\\Program Files\\ThinkPad\\ConnectUtilities\\ACTray.exeACWLIcon="C:\\Program Files\\ThinkPad\\ConnectUtilities\\ACWLIcon.exe This T61p hardware was checked by Lenovo service center on July 2008; no problem was found and the Win XPP was reinstalled from recovery CD afterward. Does anyone encounter similar problem? Thanks, Eric
And still no improvements in version 6.11!

Access Connections icon in taskbar
Can someone tell me how to retrieve my wireless icon signal bar in the taskbar. I think I turned off access connections being shown in the taskbar and cannot find how to turn it back on....help!

Access connection icon won't allow shrinking of the Sidebar (thick wide icon)
this one is wierd but I can't get it fixed I just installed new HDD with everything fresh Win 7/64 sp1. This ACCESS CONNECTION (v. 5.97) icon won't allow me to shrink sidebar ,even thou in my old HDD I'm able to shrink it. Whole new install is same as on old HDD. I UNLOCK the side taskbar, remove the access connection, then LOCK the taskbar. Then I add ACCESS CON. and the sidebar widens again. helpppp pls :-) How can I fix that ugly wide icon? :-) seriously, its bad
Solved!
Go to Solution....never mind....downgraded Access Connection to 5.93 and could shrink the sidebar.....good example of how newer doesn't always mean better :-)

Lenovo T530 (Windows 7, x64 SP1) Sysprep OOTB generalized
After the Sysprep, the system looses the Icons from the Access Connections (Version 5.85) and the Power Manager (Version 6.32) in the Taskbar. I can get them back, if i'll do a right click at the task bar and choose the AC and PM manually.
Is there a possibility that the symbols retained after the sysprep?
Solved!
Go to Solution.Probably because the tools aren't added to the taskbar in "Default" user. Did you added the tools to the taskbar in Audit mode?
Though sysprep will not keep some settings. You may need to use `unattended.xml` to configure scripts to add those tools to the taskbar.
Just another question: does the PM tool appears in its factory state? -
R51 - Access Connections vs win xp wireless
Hi!
I've been using ThinkPads for years but this is the first time I have posted to the Lenovo forum.
I just installed ThinkVantage Access Connections on my very old R51 (2004 but still going strong!) using the new and improved SystemUpdate. After re-booting I was unable to make the wireless connection to my home network. Strange, as it was working just fine before using the old IBM Access Connection. After muddling around some I tried uninstalling my wireless card and letting win xp do an auto-reinstall after re-booting. Well that did the trick - I can now connect wirelessly to my home network and the internet.
However, Access Connections thinks that my wireless drivers are still improperly installed. My systray wireless icon shows a strong connection but the Access Connection icon indicates I am not connected. I've decided to ignore Access Connections (removed it from my systray) and just let win xp manage my wireless connections. But if there is a way to fix this I would like to go back to using Access Connections. The old version was working just fine in managing my different wireless connection profiles.
Browsing the forums it looks as if a number of others are having similar issues with Access Connections and their wireless network connections. I wonder if Lenovo needs to put out a fix via System update.

Access Connection Suddenly stopped working...
Hello,
Access Connection application version: 5.42
Build: 6JC725WW
I have a T400 with Win7 64 bit. Everything has been working fine since new, juat about a month. Today for no apparent reason the Access Connection application drops my wireless connection about 1 minute after I turn on the laptop. It shows all green bars as it has since new and works just fine for about a minute then the screen blinks, goes black for a fraction of a second then comes back with the green bars all grfay and a red circle and line on top of the wireless icon. The task bar as the bottom of the screen also turns light gray.
The Access Connections application shows no available wireless networks where before there were at least a dozen from around my neighborhood.
Here's the strange part, about 3 minutes later after this happens the laptop screen blinks again, the light gray task bar turns back to normal and I get a wireless connection via "Windows Wireless Service". The other strange thing is the connection name is the same as my location profile but with a "2" after it. It was "Indy" and now in the OS wireless configuration it shows the connection as "Indy 2".
Anyone know what might be going on here? I'm pulling my hair out trying to figoure out why the Access Connection application has stopped working correctly.
One other thing, the wireless connection is working as I'm submitting this post on the machine in question. What's odd is when I do an FN F5 to turn the wireless "on" or "off" the window that appears clearly shows that the radio is "off". Attempts to turn it on only close the window but doing an FN F5 again clearly shows it is still off. How could it be off if I'm able to browse the internet and see my home network?
There seems to be a problem with this ThinkVantage Access Connection application. Can I uninstall it? I'm not really a big fan of running software that "sort-of" works and it appears this app is buggy.
Thanks,
BobHi!
Because the AP WAP200 are powered with POE, all clients may losts connection at the same time only for an electrical failure on the SF302 switch. Check your hardware and ensure that the power supply is working properly. Check also the connection cable to the power line and to the switch

I'm having strange random connection failures. Are there ineffieciency in my config?
I've been having strange, random connection failures and I'm trying to eliminate possible causes.
What happens is while I'm browsing on the net over wifi, a link will at random not connect to the site, but instead fault to the ISP error page. It happens with highly reliable sites like google, or ebay, or whatever. If I direct connect to the cable modem, the problem site is immediately available.
I'm sitting <6 feet from a 871W router (with antenna). There's one router in my building and others are at my neighbors.
Below is the conf file. Just to imagine how rediculious this problem is, here's a screen shot from a web page. This shows a web page I visited, and after clicking on a link (an embedded youtube video), the error showed up within the page itself.
Why would only some URLs fail to connect? Is there inefficiencies in my config?

I'm guessing that since overload is what--I understand--translates the one outside to the many inside IPs, that the suggestion to have only one overload configured means I should combine the two ip ranges into one.
I deleted 10.0.0.0 network. Changed the bridge references to 1 and vlan references to 1. Now wifi and ethernet should all be using the same internal network? That's the idea, right? Any more fat?

Access Connections issues w L512
I have a Lenovo L512 - 444CTO, running Windows 7, i5 processor, 4gb ram, 500gb hd
it has the adapter 11b/g/n wireless LAN mini-PCI express Adapter II
both at my home and at my office, both of which have wireless internet, it will log on initially and get good signal and work, but within ~10 minutes of being on the internet, it for no reason stops working. The Access Connections menu says that it is still connected with strong signal. But the small "network" icon in the bottom right shows the yellow-triangle exclamation point, and says "no internet access," despite the fact that all other computers at both the home and office continue to work without interruption.
it is not a problem with the networks, as multiple other computers on the same network in both places work without interruption.
this laptop was purchased because i have online live synchronous classes this spring for my Graduate program, and I need to be able to get online and stay online to participate in them.
Any ideas as to why this might be happening or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated.
there is no firewall on either of the wireless providers that I use, and i have checked that the wireless radio is turned on. the troubleshooting for the network icon tells me it finds nothing it can do.
