Strange "Genuine Microsoft Software" warning

A long time ago (a few months) I had installed Windows Home Premium 64 bits (a clean version). I used the serial number that comes with my laptop. When I tried to validate my installation, the online activation doesn't worked (I know because some Lenovo's keys are blacklisted).
Anyway, today I updated Windows (because Windows Update always ask to me what to do) and after finish, a message comes to the screen like: "You need to validate your Windows". "Again?" I thought.
What I did to solve this? Simple. This time I used the online activation and it worked!
If this happens to you, just do this.
Best regards.

Q.  "Do Microsoft actually produce these: Backup\Restore\Re-Install\Recovery\Rescue DVD's?"
A.   No
Your very old Dell Dimension 8100 likely shipped with a
Dell branded Windows XP Reinstallation CD.  Perhaps you can look around and try and find it.

  • Unable to restart the Microsoft Software Protection Platform service from command line - Win81 MS Office 2013 SP1

I'm unable to restart the Microsoft Software Protection Platform service on a Windows 8.1 laptop for MS Office 2013 SP1 (32-bit) using the following command:
    cscript ospp.vbs /osppsvcrestart (issued from C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15)
When this is run, a window appears with the title ospp.vbs and the text "Error: The Software Protection Platform service is not installed"
I verified that the service is installed in services.msc, and was able to manually stop and restart the SPP service in the Services console without issue.
The command runs correctly when restarting the MS Office 2013 SPP on Windows 7 devices.
Has anyone else seen this or have a solution for it?
The reason that I am attempting to restart the service from the command line is because this command is part of a script to change the KMS server IP Address used by OSPP prior to software activation.
The only other options that I have at this time is to ask the users to reboot, or manually force a reboot.  This is both time consuming and disruptive to the users.
The Fix It tool to remove MS Office 2013 was run, and the MS Office 2013 software was successfully reinstalled after a reboot.  The software was successfully activated.  When the command was run, it produced the same exact error.

    Hi,
I am able to reproduce this on my own machine, but in my case, I don't see the specific service running in the Services console.
I would like first confirm that whether you've the right service running on your Windows 8.1 system. The display name of this service should be "Office Software Protection Platform", service name is "osppsvc".
You can also check this by going to below path where you should see the executable file (OSPPSVC.EXE) if the service is installed on your system (in my case, the folder is empty):
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform

    1. Unselect all Classisfications in SUP
    2. Run wsusutil reset
    3. Run another sync
    4. Add Classifications

  • "Windows cannot find the microsoft software license terms" Windows 8.1 Installation Error - Parallels

I'm trying to install Windows 8.1 via Parallels on my Macbook Pro.
I create a new VM and use the .ISO file and get the error: "Windows cannot find the microsoft software license terms. Make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation."
I found this question was answered here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/b1021d66-9774-4b5b-b50b-ad860c5ecc89/windows-8-enterprise-rtm-installation-error?forum=w8itproinstall
However, following the steps of the solution did not work for me. I created a blank VM and chose Windows 8.1. After this, it asks me to insert the installation disc. I cannot figure out how to use the .ISO as the source at this point. I tried copying and
pasting the path to the file and dragging the file to the VM, but no luck.
If there is a way I can install this without this error message or by somehow getting the path to the .ISO that'd be perfect.

    Hi,
According to your description, I would like to confirm if you have unchecked the Express installation box.
Be sure to uncheck 'Express Installation' when installing, otherwise Windows setup will fail with an error "cannot find license terms" and get stuck in a reboot cycle.
I suggest you refer to the following link to use Parallels Desktop to install Windows 8.1.

Windows Installer can really rain on your parade if it gets confused......
First thing, look in task manage for either msiexec.exe or msiinstaller.exe. If you see one of those and nothing is installing that you know of something has been hung up. You MIGHT be able to get away with killing the process and potentially rebooting.
Unfortunately, usually the system installer knows that it was in the middle of installing something and will not let you start off another installation until the current one finishes or is rolled-back.
Also, there is a windows service that should be running to allow for use of the Windows Installer Service.......
The following link from Microsoft is pretty all-inclusive to resolving issues with the installer.
    Good luck!

I have seen this several times and it's often just a timing issue with downloading the EULA's that will go away after a few days or can be caused by a proxy server not allowing the download. Do you have a proxy?

    Hi,
I saw this issue few times in Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010 or Exchange 2013 Coexistence environment. I searched around and investigate it in my lab, finally I found that this issue was due to the attribute
    msExchRecipientTypeDetails of the mailbox.
We can check the attribute msExchRecipientTypeDetails
    by the following steps:
Open ADSIEdit.msc, click Action on menu bar and choose
    Connect to.
Under Select a well known Naming Context field, choose
    Default naming context.
Navigate to Users, and choose one of mailboxes listed above.
Right click to properties, and find the attribute msExchRecipientTypeDetails.
When we use move request to move mailboxes, the move requests are processed by the following two services:
    Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication service
    Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication Proxy
And there's a sharing mechanism between all instances of Mailbox Replication Service so that no two servers will attempt to perform the same move request. So when moving mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013, the Mailbox Replication
Service will share some mailboxes from Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2007. Under your circumstances, I listed the following mailboxes(The valves of
attribute msExchRecipientTypeDetails are in Exchange 2013):
    DiscoverySearchMailbox {D919BA05-46A6-415f-80AD-7E09334BB852}
     (msExchRecipientTypeDetails: 536870912)
    SystemMailbox{bb558c35-97f1-4cb9-8ff7-d53741dc928c}                          (msExchRecipientTypeDetails:
    8388608)
    SystemMailbox{1f05a927-ad21-4b9b-bf84-687b2d66b105}                         (msExchRecipientTypeDetails:
    8388608)
    SystemMailbox{e0dc1c29-89c3-4034-b678-e6c29d823ed9}                         (msExchRecipientTypeDetails:
    8388608)
    FederatedEmail.4c1f4d8b-8179-4148-93bf-00a95fa1e042                             (msExchRecipientTypeDetails:
    8388608)
    Migration.8f3e7716-2011-43e4-96b1-aba62d229136                                    (msExchRecipientTypeDetails:
    8388608)
The RecipientTypeDetails of objects in Exchange 2007 are listed in this blog:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/benw/archive/2007/04/05/exchange-2007-and-recipient-type-details.aspx
We can change the value of attribute msExchRecipientTypeDetails to
<not set> to solve this issue or just ignore these errors because these mailboxes should not have been in Exchange 2007. And also I recommend you to run ExBPA to ensure that there is no error on Exchange 2013.
    Best Regards.

SCCM 2012 R2 on Windows Server 2012.  The SUP is unable to sync updates and the wsyncmgr.log shows "Failed to sync update <guid>.  Error: The Microsoft Software License Terms have not been completely downloaded and cannot be accepted.
Source: Microsoft.UpdateServices.Internal.BaseApi.SoapExceptionProcessor.DeserializeAndThrow."  I've seen several posts about this all over the web, but every one of those references a proxy server issue.  We do not have a proxy server,
so those solutions don't apply.  Has anyone seen or resolved this issue when a proxy server is not involved?

The event log showed that WSUS was trying to store updates in an old location.  I apparently had not configured WSUS properly after I moved the directory.  Running "wsusutil movecontent" and restarting the SQL Server instance for the remote DB
    fixed the problem.

  • Can't open excel or any other Microsoft software

    Hi,
I just got a mac but is not very new, so basically I haven't got the best machine and I don't know how to use it very well. I have a proble, everytime I try to open excel or power-point or word a message appears: "not enough memory" HELP please
    Thanks

    markfromdelta wrote:
All my Microsoft stuff (especially Excel) appears in the Finder but has a little white circle and line through it.   Does Lion not support Excel 2004?
To be blunt (my apologies in advance) no Lion does not support Excel 2004 or any Office for Mac 2004 apps. They were written for Power PC (PPC) Mac years ago. When Apple switched to Intel microprocessors they wanted to help people that had PPC based apps transition to Intel machines. Beginning with OS X Tiger they included a tool called Rosetta that allowed PPC apps to run on Intel machines. They continued this through 3 releases of OS X (Tiger, Leopard & Snow Leopard) over the course of 5 1/2 years. Beginning with Lion Rosetta is no longer included. This means users that had PPC based apps will need to either upgrade them to Intel based equivalents or find another app. In short if you want to continue with MS Office you need to buy MS Office for Mac 2011.
Now before you start complaining too much Apple was very up front about this and gave users plenty of warning. Of course that word did not get to everyone usually because they weren't paying attention. And if you're upset that you have to spend money well consider this you paid about $150 for Office 2004 and got about 7 years use from it, that comes out to less than $2 per month. In other words you got your money's worth. Again my apologies for being blunt.

I've tried restarting and checking for software updates and no luck. I'm running microsoft office 2008 for mac. It says theres a critical update needed, but again I can't open the updater. I can't even open the uninstaller. does anyone have any suggestions about why this is happening and what I can do.

You may also want to reduce your fonts down to system-only fonts (and add your fonts back bit by bit) as well as reinstalling (and updating to the latest version) MS Office. Out of interest which version are you running?

  • Will Visual Source Safe work for non-Microsoft software as well as documents?

We have software that was made by a subcontractor. It is used to control a machine with proprietary syntax. Will VSS archive it as well as Visual Studio things?

    Hi OilMan545,
If you mean to use Visual Source Safe as a source control tool and use funtions that VSS provided, the answer is yes. You can use VSS to manage your source files. And it's recommended to use TFS since it's more powerful and in the spoort scope of MSDN forums.
If you want to do the integration for the software and VSS, that depends on the functions that the software provided and whehter it has interfaces/plugin to interact with VSS.

  • Is not running all of Microsoft software bad?

I just got a call saying that my computer keeps sending error messages to the server. The lady said that it is because not all of the software under Microsoft Corporation are running and thus might be bad news for my computer. I'm personally not encountering problems so I do not what to make of this. Do I have a problem?
My computer is a Toshiba Satellite Ultrabook U845W-S430 if that helps.
