  • Sybase ODBC Connection Issue in Windows Server 2008 R2

    Hi ,
    We have three sybase odbc connection in Windows Server 2008 R2 server . One connection is not working now, it was working fine before 30 days.
    I can ping the server address successfully from BO Server through "dsedit".
    i have created the same connection in a diffrent server (Win server 2003),and it is working fine.
    Sybase ASE Driver version 3.50.00.10
    Please help me to overcome this issue.
    Thanks,
    Saurabh upadhyay

    Hi Saurabh,
    The error message you are reporting is telling us that you are using the very old ctlibrary ODBC Driver.
    That is pretty much the only way you can get that error.
    Run from a command prompt,  isql -v  that will return a version string.  We can then verify the version.
    However, the old ODBC driver will function with the newer client.
    The old driver would read the sql.ini for the network address, and was also a translation layer between
    the client application and the ASE.
    Both were eliminated when Sybase released the "Native" ODBC Driver.
    The ct_connect error states that the connection attempt is using ctlibrary.
    In your ODBC configuration, Check to see in the ODBC Administrator and check to make
    sure that the driver you are using for your DSN is the Adaptive Server Enterprise and not the
    Sybase ASE ODBC Driver.
    Also  check the Drivers tab in the ODBC Admin.  See what the actual file is listed for the driver.
    sysybnt.dll
    syodase.dll  are unsupported drivers.
    It would be to your advantage to open an incident with SAP for more complete support
    Thank you,
    Kevin

  • Sybase ODBC driver - numeric or decimal datatype problem

    Hello!
    I have Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 15.0.2 and Oracle 10.2.0 ("show release" in SQL*plus prints 1002000100) on the same machine (OS = Windows XP, name = Workstation). I wanna load correct information from the table in Sybase via Oracle database link.
    Well, I've edited tnsnames.ora, listener.ora. Also I've created initmysybase.ora in hs\admin directory. And, of course, set up DSN (using Sybase ODBC driver) via odbcad32.exe - and named it "mysybase".
    Table ("test", user = guest) definition in Sybase is:
    column "id" - int, column "data_num" - numeric(10, 5), column "data_dec" - decimal(10, 5). And it's content is: (1, 1.12345, 5.54321). I've set up a database link.
    My problem is that whenever I do the SELECT statement (SELECT * FROM "guest.test"@mysybase) I get 0 (zero) for both data_num and data_dec columns.
    Status of investigation:
    The "describe" command in SQL*plus returns:
    id NOT NULL NUMBER(10)
    data_num NUMBER(10,5)
    data_dec NUMBER(10,5)
    UPDATE statement works perfectly.
    I've downloaded a trial version of ODBC drivers from www.datadirect.com and all works fine.
    So, I believe that maybe there are some bugs in ODBC driver from Sybase, or maybe I should configure smth.
    My initmysybase.ora:
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = mysybase
    # HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = DEBUG
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = ON
    HS_NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTER = ",."
    HS_LANGUAGE = American
    tnsnames.ora:
    mysybase =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = WORKSTATION)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = mysybase)
    (HS = OK)
    listener.ora:
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = WORKSTATION)(PORT = 1521))

    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = mysybase)
    (SID_NAME = mysybase)
    (ORACLE_HOME = C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1)
    (PROGRAM = hsodbc)
    So, maybe anybody know how to solve this problem?
    Thanks,
    Yury

  • [Sybase][ODBC Driver]Null ini

    Hi,
    I have issue with connecting to Sybase ASE after upgrading from base IQ 16 to SP03.
    Unable to connect to server 'SYBASE_ASE': [Sybase][ODBC Driver]Null ini
    file or ini file not found in $SYBASE or current directory
    SQLCODE=-656, ODBC 3 State="HY000"
    Valid .odbc.ini file exists in $SYBASE as well as in $HOME or in current directory.
    Does anyone have same issue with SP03?
    Driver used is libsybdrvodb.so which is pointing to Sybase ASE DataAccess64/lib and is properly loaded with LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
    Thanks,

    The IQ SP03 install does not contain any ASE ODBC driver components.  Most likely you have a path conflict.
    When you install, do you use a different $SYBASE home directory for the IQ installation vs. the ASE installation?  If so, check which $SYBASE is in use, as that points to the 'interfaces' file in use.  Your DSN my be using the interfaces name of the ASE and not the host/port.
    i.e. the IQ.sh script in the $SYBASE used by IQ will call the $SYBASE/SYBASE.sh when it runs.  If you install to a different $SYBASE directory for IQ, then this $SYBASE does not contain an interfaces file.
    Correct your paths or copy the interfaces file from the ASE $SYBASE directory to the IQ $SYBASE directory.

  • Sybase odbc driver client unable to establish a connection

    Please some one help me at this. I am new to sysbase.
    I am try to create dsn name for sysbase.
    While connecting sysbase i gave sa as user name and administrator as password.
    Its connecting and show master db and some other db.
    After that i am trying to create dsn. While i creating dsn i gave
    1) Hostname as my system hostname.
    2) Database name as master db
    3) Logon Id as sa (sa is my user name i gave)
    4) Port : 5000
    When i click test connection it asked password. i gave as administrator.
    After few seconds it show sybase odbc driver client unable to establish a connection error.
    I provide screenshot what i did and what error is occured.
    Please guide me at this.

    Hi Srinivasan,
    This is the first thing I noticed. You have a Windows 2012 R2 box. Make sure you install the SDK 15.7 SP130 or later or SDK 16.0 PL04 or later. We just got the SDK certified with the R2 box so the installation runs correctly.
    Second thing, when you run the odbc manager if you are creating a system dsn you need to start the Windows odbc manager as administrator on a Windows 2012 or Windows 8 box or you get permission issues on this system.
    Third thing you should pay attention to is if the application is a 32 or 64 bit application. This decides if you run the 32 or 64 bit Windows odbc manager.
    If your still having problems please tell me and I will investigate. I got a Windows 2012 R2 box with SDK 15.7 SP130 and it seems to be working fine.
    Thanks,
    Dawn Kim

  • Sybase ODBC driver for Linux - handle of numeric data type is not correctly

    Linux RHEL 4 + Oracle 10.2.0.3 - all work fine. But numeric data type does not coorectly show values. I gor driver from ASE 15. Who has already resolve this issue???

    To begin with:
    - what is the table definition in Sybase?
    - what is the table definition in Oracle: SQL> describe <table>@<sybase_hsodbc_link>;
    and probably you need to start a gateway debug trace (HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL-DEBUG) and an ODBC trace to see what happens.
    You could paste the appropriate section(s) here. Also paste the init<hsodbc>.ora and odbc.ini .

  • Sybase,ODBC,Solaris, Generic connectivity

    Please tell me what do I need to do to set up Oracle Generic Connectivity?
    I have Oracle9i EE 9.2.0.5.0 64bit for Solaris.
    Do I need to install Sybase Client?
    Where can I get ODBC driver?
    Thanks!
    Ilya

    Yo need an ODBC driver from a 3rd party vendor like Data Direct Technologies or Openlink.
    To get hsodbc on Solaris working, you need a 32Bit ODBC driver even if you have a 64Bit Oracle installation. The reason is, that hsodbc itself is a 32 bit application.
    Depending on the implementation of the ODBC driver the driver needs the Sybase client installed or some drivers like the Data Direct Technologied WIRED driver do not need the Sybase Client. Please refer to the ODBC vendor documentation.
    Install the ODBC driver and configure it so that you can connect with the ODBC driver to the Sybase db.
    Then configure hsodbc as mentioned in several notes on Metalink.

  • Predictive Analysis error message "[Sybase][ODBC Drivers][Sybase IQ]Syntax error near ',' on line 1

    Hello,
    I have a custom R component with a function that reads data from a hard configured file.
    No database operations but I get this ODBC error that, I suppose, originates from PA talking to the IQ server it runs.
    How can I find more about what PA tries to do, especially can I get a trace of the SQL it tries to execute?
    Best regards,
    Andreas

    Hi Andreas,
    You could start by looking at the logfiles that SAP PA produces.
    From your Windows Explorer go to the directory: %temp%\sapvi\logs
    Here you will find the logfiles that PA creates - as an example:
    If this information is not covering your requirements turn to the SAP PA manuel on page 11, section 5.4 configuring logs where it is described how to do a custom tracing.
    Good luck.
    Best regards,

  • ColdFusion 9 ODBC Server crashes when talking to Sybase over SQL Anywhere 11

    We have recently upgraded our database from Sybase 6 to Sybase 11.  We are also hoping to move from ColdFusion MX 6.1 to ColdFusion 9 in the near future.  In both environments, the ColdFusion ODBC Server enters a state where it is hung and the ColdFusion Application Server needs to restart.  I have been testing in CF9 since it actually gives an error message, where CF6.1 just boots me out to the login page.  Connections are setup using the ODBC Socket in CF Administrator.
    In the ColdFusion 9 ODBC Server debug log we see the following warnings as it is trying to run GetDescribe.
    It appears that it is unable to retrieve Catalog Name, but I don’t know why this would cause the ODBC Server to die.  In Sybase 6, the Catalog Name is blank as well, but there are no warnings either.
    This statement is doing a select * and returning 155 columns.  Following is a successful example where only 4 columns are retrieved.  I could (and have) gone through and chop my select statements, but since this worked in Sybase 6 I wonder if there is a handshaking problem?  I would appreciate any advice on setting up my DSN or ODBC server that may help this issue.
    Thank you for your help!

    Thank you for your help.
    Unfortunately, we can't use the Sybase DSN that is bundled with ColdFusion.  We had a Sybase expert in house, and that connection is to a different type of server.  We need a SQL Anywhere DSN.  We did speak with him about using the native driver, but he thinks that may not work correctly for us.  I am at the stage where I want to try everything though, so I will give this a try.

  • Database Connector Error (ODBC, SYBASE) in CR

    Hi,
    I'm running Crystal Reports 2008 and Business Objects Edge 3.0.
    In CR there is connection to SYBASE database trought SYBASE ODBC driver. This ODBC connection is established on my local computer and on BOE server too.
    When I try to refresh CR reports from Infoview or CMC, an erorr occured - Error in File ~tmp150c5bec67474b0.rpt: Database Connector Error.
    When I open this file in Crystal Reports installed on the BOE server, everything works fine.
    When I open this file in Crystal Reports installed on my local computer, everything works fine.
    Any idea how to solve this?
    Btw, some reports are working fine. I've created some small simple reports (one table or one command) and saved them to the CMS. Refreshing works fine.
    And maybe relevant question to this - I entered all required informations in Database configuration of my CR report (report properties). But BOE even thouht asks for username and password.
    I've tried both "use original database logon informations" and "use custom database logon informations". Same results.
    Thanks in advance
    Peter

    I've uninstalled SAP BO Edge 3.0 and I've installed the version 3.1
    Now it works.
    But still I don't know the reason.

  • ODBC Error when migrating from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Anywhere 12

    Hello community,
    i have the following requirement:
    I need to migrate a Database with some Demo data into a SQL Anywhere 12 Database. The SQL Anywhere 12 Database is part of the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP7 installation and came with the same as OEM Product.
    The Environment looks like the following:
    DB1 is a MS SQL Server 2008 R2 64 Bit running on Windows Server 2008 R2 64 Bit.
    DB2 is the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP7 installation with the shipped SQL Anywhere 12 (12.0.1.3873) Database running on SLES 11.3 64 Bit
    CL1 is my Windows 7 64 Bit Client where Sybase Central is installed in 64 Bit. On CL1 i have a 64 Bit System ODBC Connection connecting to DB1 successfully.
    Basically i followed the following (pretty straight forward) tutorial:
    Migrating a SQL Server Database to SQL Anywhere White Paper-Technical: Mobile Enterprise, Database Management iAnywhere …
    When i want to test the connection from inside Sybase Central (During the migration process) i receive the following error:
    From inside Sybase Central my connection looks as follows:
    And from the ODBC Manager the connection looks as follows:
    Personally i found is strange that the Sybase ODBC Driver Manager drops the error. I would expect that the MS SQL ODBC Driver Manager pops the error it its related to the ODBC DSN to DB1.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks and Regards
    -Seb.

    Hi Sebastian,
    The data from the SQL Server database must be migrated to an existing SQL Anywhere database.  Could you please tell me where this SQL Anywhere database resides and how are you connecting to it?
    The error message is saying that the connection to the SQL Anywhere remote database server is failing, as opposed to the connection to the SQL Server database.

  • OBIEE Administrator: bug in Physical Layer import fo Sybase IQ?

    Hi!
    In OBIEE Administrator, in the Physical Layer, I defined a Database Object (as a Syabase IQ 12.7) and its connection pool for a Sybase IQ 12.6 Database. I created the ODBC driver (for Sybase IQ 12.5 and also tried with IQ 12.7 drivers) in Windows and used it in the connection pool.
    When I use the Import functionality, to read the tables and columns, it works fine...apparently. At least, the Physical Layer appears filled with all the tables I selected. But the "+" sign (which denotes that the table has columns, right?) appears only for some tables. And when expand those tables, the columns appear. However, for those tables (and any other table) when I right-click and select either Update Row Count or View Data, OBIEE Administrator shows an error message saying that the table does not exist:
    [nQSError: 16001] ODBC Error state: S0002 code: -141 message: [Sybase][ODBC Driver][Adaptive Server IQ]Table 'EVENTS' not found.
    If I edit the table properties in the Physical Layer and prefix its name with the schema name (ex.: instead of "EVENTS" I rename it to "rpt.EVENTS') it works fine...
    But I only have this problem for these table of Sybase IQ. I imported tables from an SQL Server 200 database, and all works fine: a "+" sign for all tables, I select view data and it returns results, etc.
    HELP!!!!
    Thanks.

    hi!
    Problem solved. Here is the solution:
    - You want to access a Sybase IQ 12.6 database through ODBC, in Oracle BI Administrator, in the Physical Layer, in order to import tabes and columns and keys and etc, don't user neither Sybase IQ ODBC driver version 12.5 nor version 12.7. Use version 12.6! :)

  • SYBASE 11.5 to Oracle 8i woes

    Just installed workbench 1.2.5 and am trying to migrate a small SYBASE 11.5 database to Oracle 8i.
    Capture wizard starts to load up the MASTER database table SYSLOGIN and I get an ORA-12571 error and Workbench goes poof!
    I've upgrade the ODBC drivers and have verified my SYBASE ODBC is current. My mahcine I'm running Workbench is Nt 4.0 service pack 4.
    Any ideas of where else I should be looking to get around these problems?

    Can you turn on ODBC tracing (using ODBC Administrator Tool)
    Also put the following lines into your %ORACLE_HOME%\network\admin\sqlnet.ora file :
    TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT=16
    TRACE_DIRECTORY_CLIENT=c:\temp
    TRACE_UNIQUE_CLIENT=ON
    Then send the resulting Oracle c;\temp\sqlnet<xx>.trc file(s) and the ODBC trace file to [email protected]

  • How to update\insert data into a NVARCHAR column using ODBC API

    I am trying to update a Sybase table via Microsofts ODBC API. The following is the basics of the C++ I am trying to execute. In table, TableNameXXX, ColumnNameXXX has a type of  NVARCHAR( 200 ).
    SQLWCHAR updateStatement[ 1024 ] = L"UPDATE TableNameXXX SET ColumnNameXXX = N 'Executive Chair эюя' WHERE PKEYXXX = 'VALUE'";
    if( ret = SQLExecDirect( hstmt, ( SQLWCHAR* ) updateStatement, SQL_NTS ) != SQL_SUCCESS )
    // Handle Error
    The Sybase database has a CatalogCollation of 1252LATIN1, CharSet of windows-1252,  Collation of 1252LATIN1, NcharCharSet of UTF-8 and an NcharCollation of UCA.
    Once this works for the Sybase ODBC connection I need to get it to work in various other ODBC drivers for other databases.
    The error i get is "[Sybase][ODBC Driver][SQL Anywhere]Syntax error near 'Executive Chair ' on line 1"
    If i take out the Unicode characters and remove the N it will update.
    Does anyone know how to get this to work? What am I missing?
    I wrote a C# .net project using an ODBCConnection to a SQL Server database and am getting "sort of" the same error. I means sort of as this error contains the Unicode Text in the message whereas the Sybase ODBC error has "lost" the unicode.
    static void Main(string[] args)
    using (OdbcConnection odbc = new OdbcConnection("Dsn=UnicodeTest;UID=sa;PWD=password")) // ;stmt=SET NAMES 'utf8';CharSet=utf16"
    //using (OdbcConnection odbc = new OdbcConnection("Dsn=Conversion;CharSet=utf8")) // ;stmt=SET NAMES 'utf8';CharSet=utf8
    try
    odbc.Open();
    string queryString = "UPDATE TableNameXXX SET ColumnNameXXX = N 'Executive Chair эюя' WHERE PKEYXXX = 'AS000008'";
    System.Console.Out.WriteLine(queryString);
    OdbcCommand command = new OdbcCommand(queryString);
    command.Connection = odbc;
    int result = command.ExecuteNonQuery();
    if( result == 1)
    System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine("Success");
    catch(Exception ex)
    System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(ex.StackTrace);
    System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(ex.Message);
    "ERROR [42000] [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near 'Executive Chair эюя'."

    Your error comes from Sybase, so I suggest you post your question to a Sybase forum.  And be aware that Sybase does not use the same tsql dialect as sql server, so you must use their dialect (if, indeed, there is any difference in this particular situation).
    One note - there should be no space between "N" and the Unicode string literal to which it applies in tsql.  E.g.,
    = N'Executive Chair эюя'
    not
    = N 'Executive Chair эюя'
