Synching iPod Touch and iPod Nano without impacting each device...

just purchased a 6th gen nano...want to have some songs on it and different songs on the iPod Touch without impacting how each device. Currently put some songs on the Nano. When i sync the iPod Touch, the songs I didn't select for the Nano is removed from the iTouch (wanted those songs to stay on the iTouch). Can this be avoided?

I don't understand.  In iTunes, each device is set up independently.  If you connect both devices at the same time, they should each appear separately, in the iTunes sidebar under DEVICES.
You can then set up each device to sync as desired.  There should not be any dependency between the devices.  Select one device, and over to the right, set up the Music tab (and other tabs) to tell iTunes how it should be synced from your iTunes library.  Then, do the same for the other device.

  • Since downloading the latest version of iTunes, now the screen on my pc shows 'synch in progress' nonstop but my iPod Touch and iPod Classic don't reflect the synch.

Since upgrading to latest iTunes, iTunes constantly shows synching to my iPods but nothing is being reflected on my iPod Touch or iPod Classic...

  • Pros And Cons Of iPod Touch And iPod Clasic?

I am upgrading from an older model of the iPod Nano and I was wondering if someone could tell me some of the pros and cons of each(iPod Touch and the iPod Clasic). I am torn between the two and would like some help deciding from someone who actually has had one or both of them. Please and Thanks in advance!

And when it comes to Apple Lossless it isn't just the 2nd gen Touch that skips. It is a problem that has cropped up on all the iPods at one time or another. Sometimes the issue goes away simply by reinstalling the music. Sometimes it turns out to be the rip that's defective (but the iPod nearly always gets the blame since the user never thinks to play the songs on iTunes before complaining). I've seen it go away after the user reformats the iPod's drive and sometimes an iPod update solves the problem.
So it isn't just the 2nd gen Touch and you have a viable temporary work around. Deal with it, sell it, or return it. Whining about it won't make it better and I suspect you are like most Lossless users - wasting space because you think what you are hearing is better when you really can't tell the difference most of the time.

  • Ipod Touch and Ipod Classic and iTunes

I have owned an Apple iPod Classic for a couple of years now and have a number of albums in my library (6.5GB). Today I ordered a new iPod Touch and it suddenly occurred to me that I might have problems letting both of these devices use the same iTunes program on my computer. For example, I think I want to keep all the music on my old iPod to play in my car and on my stereo, but I will want to thin down that list for the iPod Touch so that I can use the video, photo and other capabilities. Will this be a problem? If not how do I make both iPods use the same library? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I do as fizgog says and just use multiple playlists (and folders of playlists) for different iPods. That way even if I have three iPods connected to the iTunes at once I can see which one is getting what content.
Here are the full details of three methods to use one iTunes library with multiple iPods:

  • I just found out my iPod touch will only sync to one library, what is the difference in technology of the iPod touch and iPod that makes this so?

I just found out in iTunes help that my iPod touch will only sync to one library unlike iPod.  What is the difference in technology between the iPod touch and the iPod that makes this so?
    Thanks

You can manage music and videos among different computers/libraries by following these instructions. You can only sync apps and photos from one library.

  • How do i sync one itunes account with two iphones, one ipod touch, and a nano?

I need help in how to sync the one itunes account we use as a family with the two iphones my wife and i have and an ipod touch that my son has and a nano that my daughter has. Please help.

That article applies, as far as I can tell, to all things called iPod X where X can be nano, touch, classic etc.
We don't have two iPhones in the family as yet but as I understand it each device can have separate settings for syncing calendars and contacts. For example my iPhone syncs these over the air with the Exchange server at work so if/when my wife gets an iPhone it would be easy to have hers sync to our computer
To make sure your apps don't inadvertently merge turn off Automatically sync new apps from the apps tab when you connect your device.
The Apple support document How to use multiple iPods with one computer suggests a number of ways for managing the media content. I use method two (Sync with selected playlists) with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
I currently manage our family's five iDevices using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their device. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed and need rebuilding. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.

  • Download restore file and 3.0 for Ipod touch and ipods*****************

I need restore a couple of my ipod and I also need to download the 3.0 for my ipod touch. my problem is that im out to sea and when I get to about 170mb it fails and I have to start all over. 1st question why in apple's infinate wisdom did they not allow you resume download and 2nd is there a way to restore without having to connect to the internet?
I bought the 3.0 for my touch and it frustrating because i will have been running the download for 5 hours and to have it fail *****.....

my problem is that im out to sea and when I get to about 170mb it fails and I have to start all over
That's probably more to do with your internet connection than any problem with Apple's servers, otherwise other people would be suffering the same. Maybe you need to try again on a more reliable and faster internet connection when you can.
1st question why in apple's infinate wisdom did they not allow you resume download and
If you pause the download in the download queue you can resume it.
2nd is there a way to restore without having to connect to the internet?
The restore process does not need a connection to the internet, but obviously you need an internet connection to actually download the update before restoring commences.

  • Both iPod Touch and iPod Classic left side of stereosound stopped working

I have used my iPod Touch with Adidas Sennheiser earphones in the gym for 1+ years and suddenly
last week the left side of my earphones stopped working. I tried other earphones and still the left side didn't work
so I borrowed my dad's iPod Classic. The (Adidas) earphones worked fine for a week, but now suddenly the left
side stopped working again! This can't be coincidence.
Do you think that my earphones destroyed both my iPods? They both don't have warranty anymore...

First try the headphones in another device but first look at the plug for abnormalities that could damage the headphone jack in the iPod.
If confrmed that the headphnes work OK
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R".
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

Scroll down a little bit and you'll see "iPod Classic at a glance" then on the right hand side you'll see 'compare'
Click on 'compare' to see the different iPods...etc.
Hope this helps or answers your question.

  • IPod touch AND iPod classic not detected by Windows 7 or iTunes, but both are charging fine via USB.

I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling all the Apple software on my computer but that didn't help whatsoever.  Both devices are fully charged, and I have tried different cables and USB ports, but to no avail.  When I check for the driver software in my Device Manager (in various categories, but most importantly, the Universal Serial Bus controllers), it doesn't appear, so I figure that might be the basis of the problem.  Is there somewhere that I can download the driver since it's not automatically installing when I plug in the iPods?

Do the USB ports work for for other devices?

  • Ipod touch and ipod classic

I've got a classic that the battery is dying in won't stay charged for long and just recently upgraded to the touch everytime I use the wall charger and the ihome with the touch it tells me that the charging system is not supported with this accesory Is there anything that I can do to make them work for the touch without buying new wall charging system or the ihome?

If the message says the wall charger is not supported then its telling you that there probably is not sufficient charge to keep your touch going that means unfortunately that you will be best served by purchasing an official charger from apple or finding one through ebay the good news is that the quality of the ebay chargers is very strong but be forewarned that even the best will not work well in electrical systems where you have multiple connections coming from say a surge reducer or its like.

  • HT1923 When I connect my Ipad to my laptop...it says that USB device is not recognized.and there is no response to in the itunes as well...I tried these steps...but I also use an ipod touch and ipod classic through the itunes...so don't prefer reinstallin

The problem now is that I get the message that I cannot backup my iPad as my PC is not authorised, even though when I click to authorize it says my PC is already authorized.

  • IPod Touch and 5G not recognized by WinXP Computers

I am not very good at troubleshooting iPods and I thought this would be the best place to find some help. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
The problem: I have an iPod Touch and iPod 5G that are not recognized by a Windows Computer. I have tried several troubleshooting steps and I will just outline everything step by step. Neither of the iPods show up in device manager, and when I try the "Run Diagnostics" in iTunes it shows that no iPod is attached. I've made sure the iPod service is running and tried stopping and restarting that also- but the iPod never shows up under Device Manager.
    1. I have tried the 5R's several times. Each iPod has been reset 3 times and iTunes uninstalled and re-installed 3 times.
    2. I have tried a total of 3 Windows Computers all with the same problem.
    3. I did a factory restore on one of the computers just to troubleshoot an OS problem. The restore had no effect. It was a "destructive" restore meaning the disk was formatted- not just a repair.
    4. When each of the iPods are connected, the screen lights up and the charging indicator appears.
    6. I installed an add-on USB card in the computer I restored- but this made no difference.
    7. I have tried restarting the computer with the iPod attached.
    8. I am using the same USB cable for each iPod.
That is about all the detail I can think of. Typing this out makes me thing I need a new USB cable- but they are charging ok.
This problem has been going on for about 6-7 months but I finally have some time to try and get it fixed. It would be nice to have some new music on them.
    Thanks for any help!

There are two separate drivers that need to be loaded on your PC. The 5G uses the older driver, and troubleshooting for it can be found in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
The iPod touch/iPhone uses something called Apple Mobile Device Services to communicate with iTunes. This one is a bit different in that the touch/iPhone will not show up on the desktop as a device. For troubleshooting tips, see this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567
Good luck and write back if your problems continue.

    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause
