Synchronous transmission without BPM process

Right now I have a S/A bridge BPM process for HTTP => XI => RFC interface.
However this is taking 5 - 8 seconds to process. On further analysing this process, we found out that WF engine is taking 4 seconds in initialize.
Can I accomplish a synchronous interface without a BPM?

Hi Parimala,
If it just a HTTP>XI>RFC Scenario, it can be achieved without a BPM.
Steps in IR
1) Create DT,MT and MI(both request and response)for HTTP interface
2) Import metadata for RFC Interface into "Import Objects"
3) Create two Message Mappings
    1) HTTP REq-->RFCREQ
    2) RFC Res-->HTTP Res
4) Create IM for with both REq and RES maps
Steps in ID
1) Create HTTP Business Service. As HTTP Adapter is a built in adapter no CC needed.
2) Add the BS for R/3 and create the Receiver CC for RFC Adapter
3)Create Routing Rules using RD,ID,RA with Receiver CC
Use HTTP Client App to test this.
Hope this helps.

ALEAUD can make IDOC to handle WS response??
    Please suggest.

Please suggest since BPM involves performance issue
BPM surely has performance issue...only when there are a lot of steps/ logic implemented in it and when the processing load is too much for the XI/ PI server to handle.
The BPM design in your case will be just of following steps: Receive --> SyncSend --> AsyncSend .... excluding Transformation...and a BPM with these steps wont cause a big harm to processing of other messages.

  • Correlation issue in JMS adapter - SYNC/ASYNC scenario without BPM

    Hi,
I am working on a SYNC/ASYNC scenario with JMS adapter without using BPM. My scenario is SOAP<>PI>JMS. I configured the interface as below:
    1. SOAP Sender channel
    2. JMS Receiver Channel writing to Queue A.

  • How to send status message in SOAP to IDOC scenerio without BPM

    Hi,
I have a SOAP to IDOC scenerio in which we require to send the status message back to user from XI that " IDOC has been sent successfully to SAP system"
We do not want to use BPM bacause of performance issues.
Can you please help me how to achieve this synchronous response without BPM.
Note: We require the status message from XI that the IDOC has been successfully posted to WESAP system

Idoc only support async behaviour. U can't get the Idoc response as per ur requirement without BPM.
Better to go for abap proxy or RFC.
Or u may get the ack till XI.

  • Synchronous start event for a BPM process??

    Hi,
If I trigger a BPM Process from say a BSP Application(Shld be able to do this as all I need is a Service Interface (Start Event) related to the BPM), If for some reason the process fails to start -- Is there a way of  having a response that would let the triggering application know that the BPM process instantiation has failed...
What I am trying to understand is :
1)would the Service Interface for the BPM start Event, provide a response ?...??
2)Is it possible to have some kind of logic implementation for this Service Interface(that starts a BPM Process) ??
Eventhough there was a similar message in the forum, I wanted to have a clear picture ....
A detailed reply would be highly appreciated ..Thanks !
    Best Regards,
    Arun

    Hi Arun,
I guess you need to distinguish 2 to 3 cases here:
In case you used a snychronous call in the service interface definition assigned to the process start event it will result in a SOAP fault, which says that the process started successfully. Reason for that is explained here: Starting a BPM Process - Where is the Service?
Problems within your process would also not be reflected in the SOAP message (e.g. if there is some issue within the first step after the process has been started). I guess that is somehow obvious as the process has been started after all, but I wanted to state it anyways.
Finally and that's possibly the most important point for you: If there are any problems during the instantiation and in the end no process has been started then this should be reflected in the SOAP result. If not I would consider it as an issue in the implementation and would like to ask you to open a ticket for it on http://service.sap.com/message
More details could be found in the documentation:

  • How to call multiple request to CRM and R/3 without BPM

    Hi all
I have a scenario where a SOAP request will come to XI via webservice
I then have to call an interface mapping which has Java mapping in it(the java code is basically calling an RFC in CRM) - then i'll receive the response of interface mapping and send it back to the customer.
Step 2 :The SOAP request which i have received in the first place is to be written as a flat/xml file onto a directory for backup purpose
Step 3: there will be a separate process where the response of rfc will be fed to an IDOC request structure and send to R/3 as a dashboard IDOC.
All this is done without BPM.
So my first problem is "how to write an incoming SOAP request to a file without using BPM?? "
Second I knw that interface mapping can be directly added in Integration directory's Interface determination by making the property as enhanced but "In the Sender Service i write the Business system which contains soap comm channel and in the interface i write the outbound synchronous interface which is the SOAP outbound that hits the xi for the first time But i am not sure what service do i write in the receiver section as Interface mapping is in XI only....theres no other business system or communication channel involved in between."
I really need help...plz help me

    Yes abhishek
Client dont want BPM involved as it makes the process really slow
First of all i wanna knw how to use enhanced option in an interface determination....in the ID
as i am trying  to load my interface mapping but it says no object found
I am giving you the structure of interface mapping
MI_OB_SAX_MAP (outbound async source interface of interface mapping )
MI_IB_SAX_MAP (inbound async target interface of interface mapping)
    MT_OB_SAX_MAP  (source message)
JavaClass - test_java/sax_map (Java mapping program)
    MT_IB_SAX_MAP (target message
Now when i am trying to configure this in ID
    BS__ (Sender business system)
    MI_OS_TEST_JAVAMAP (sender SOAP interface)
But i dnt what receiver business system should i select in receiver service ??
as the java mapping is calling RFC inside the code...so no other business system involved
    i m stuck.....if u could plz have a look into it

  • Asynch-Synch without BPM

    Hello,
We have an asynch to synch (File to RFC) which was successfully done using the blog (aysnch-synch without BPM). The interface works fine except when there are failures. Whenever there is a mapping failure, the module bean waits and does not process it which is a perfect synchronous behavior.  However is there a way to make use of the asynchronous property of the sender file adapter (which is to read the incoming files, archive them and may be queue them after the archive step incase of failures).  I tried the callsapadapter before the module bean call but it doesnu2019t seem to do the trick. Any advise is very helpful.
    Teresa

    Hi,
It seems your scenario is working fine as per the blog.
For archiving files in sender file adapter you have an option..in processing mode you can select Archive so that files that have been successfully processed are moved to an archive directory.
Under Archive Directory, enter the name of the archive directory.
If you want to archive the files on the FTP server, set the Archive Files on FTP Server indicator. If you do not set the indicator, the files are archived in the Adapter Engine file system.
    Thanks

  • Suggestion required for with or without BPM

    I have a requirement IDOC-XI-SOAP.
I am using multimapping 1:N  one idoc gets spilt into say three wsdl, A B and C.
My first requirement is if A fails then B and C should not be sent.
If I use only EOIO without BPM then I will need to identify B and C for the corresponding A in the queue and remove it.
That looks tedious as sometimes B and C may not be there for A and is there any way to identify the related messages?
This can be achieved through BPM I believe.
My second requirement is IDOC2 should not be processed before IDOC1.
So If I used BPM will this be guaranteed? is BPM EOIO. (Even after transformation step?) If not then can it be configured?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi all,
Just bringing this topic up again as I have stuck at one place. and found not much help on SDN.
I have designed this requirement using BPM.
    That is IDOC-BPM-SOAP.
Within BPM I make a synchronous call to Webservice. if there is a fault exception thrown the BPM workflow stops at that point and no further process steps are carried out. This is working fine as per the requirement.
But this does not get blocked up in the BPM queue. I want to stop the next IDOC from processing before handling the prviously errored IDOC scenario.
Now I briefly understand that since BPM is doing a sync call these are not placed in the queue. Is there a way I can handle this so that these interfaces are placed in the BPM queue (which starts with XBQO$PE_WS.....).
I have tried with exception branch, even this stops the BPM workflow but does not block the queue, or the workflow gets processed successfully.
Is there anyway I can block the queue if the BPM synch call fails?

BPM Performance:  Integration processes are executed on the Integration Server at runtime by the Business Process Engine. Since the Integration Server is the central resource for message exchange, you must ensure that it is not overloaded; otherwise, this can lead to bottlenecks or performance problems.
    Resource Consumption
Every step of an integration process uses Integration Server resources.
&#9679;      Every message that is sent to the Process Engine is duplicated.
&#9679;      Every message that is sent from the Process Engine is duplicated.
&#9679;      A work item is created for the process itself and for every step the process contains.
This means that for a process that just receives one message that is sent without being processed further, four messages and three work items are created.
For this reason, you must ensure that you take Integration Server resources into account when you define integration processes.
Resource Consumption of Different Step Types and Transactional Behavior
Different step types consume different amounts of system resources:
&#9679;      Step types with high resource consumption:
    •     &#9675;       Receive step
    •     &#9675;       Send step
Asynchronous send steps with acknowledgments in particular consume a lot of system resources. In the case of synchronous send steps, consumption depends on the target system.
    •     &#9675;       Receiver determination
    •     &#9675;       Transformation step
In transformation steps, resource consumption is dependent on the mapping called. In general, process steps that generate work items internally are relevant for process performance. Transformation steps (either for message split or merge) also include a mapping step and can be quite expensive. This should be taken into consideration during scenario design.
    •     &#9675;       Block
    •     &#9675;       Wait step
&#9679;      Step types with low resource consumption:
    •     &#9675;       Control step
    •     &#9675;       Multiple condition
    •     &#9675;       Fork
    •     &#9675;       Loop
    •     &#9675;       Undefined step
If you design the transactional behavior of an integration process so that the following steps are not performed as separate transactions, you can improve performance significantly:
    &#9679;      Transformation step
    &#9679;      Receiver determination
&#9679;      Send step (synchronous or asynchronous)
Transactional Behavior of an Integration Process
    Use
You can now influence transactional behavior in the definition of an integration process in the process editor.  This enables you to improve performance.
    Transaction:
A transaction is a sequence of processing steps that are either fully executed, or not executed at all. If the system cannot fully execute a transaction, it rolls back all processing steps within the transaction. This means that the system can return to the state before the transaction was begun.
The transaction control mechanism for integration processes is not a central transaction manager for an entire system landscape. The transaction control mechanism cannot roll back any processing steps outside the Integration Server.
    Transaction Boundaries
You have the option of defining the start or end of a block as the boundary of a transaction.
&#9679;      In the case of the start of a block, you can define that the system is to start a new transaction.
&#9679;      In the case of the end of a block, you can define that the system is to end the transaction being started (COMMIT WORK). The system ends the transaction that is currently open, regardless of whether it has been started or not. For example, if no new transaction was started at the start of the block, the last transaction started is continued instead.
By making appropriate settings for the start and end of a block you can expand transactions. This means that the database needs to be accessed less often, and enables you to improve system performance
Transactional Behavior for Specific Step Types
At runtime, the system normally creates a separate transaction for each step. The transaction then covers this step only. However, you can influence the transactional behavior of particular step types. In the step properties, you can define that the system is not to start a new transaction when the step is executed. The system then executes the step in the transaction that was started at the time of execution. Consequently, no background work item is created for the step and the database does not need to be accessed. In this way you can improve system performance.
You can influence the transactional behavior of the following step types:
    &#9679;      Send step
You can influence the transactional behavior when sending messages both synchronously and asynchronously, and when sending acknowledgments
    •     Transformation Step
    •     Receiver Determination Step
    Optimizing Transactional Behavior:
    &#9679;      Memory requirements
Expanding transactions and executing specific steps without creating a new transaction may increase the burden on the main memory. If the burden on the main memory is too great, you must redefine transactions, or define that a new transaction is to be created for the step concerned.
&#9679;      Troubleshooting in the workflow log
The technical view of the workflow log does not show any detailed information for steps for which no work item was created. If an error occurs, the workflow log displays the error information for the last executed step. The following example illustrates this:
A process contains a transformation step that is executed within an expanded transaction. When the transformation step is executed, an error occurs in mapping and the system rolls back the transaction. Since no work item was created for the transformation step, the workflow log does not have an entry for the transformation step. The error information is entered in the last executed step in the workflow log.
    EXAMPLE:
For an example of resource consumption, see the BPM scenario described in the XI sizing guide:
The inbound SOAP messages are handed over to the BPE, which triggers a two-step process consisting of message reception and sending. The processed messages are then sent to a receiver by using the SOAP channel; no mapping.
The SAPS value for this scenario, in which 10 kB messages are processed, is 1300 (processing one process instance each second). A simple XI proxy scenario, for example, requires 140 SAPS process-ing one message each second. This gives you an idea of the resource requirements using BPM.
    Example:
In the original implementation, two separate JCBC calls were made to retrieve a sales order document header and the line items. This data then was transformed to the IDoc format of the receiving application using a transformation. Then, using a loop step, one IDoc at a time was sent to the backend application. - This sub optimal design resulted in poor performance caused by following design flaws:
Separate retrieval of header and line items with the JDBC adapter
Transformation within ccBPM to combine retrieved header and line items
IDoc back end connection for one document at the time
In the improved version below, both the JDBC call and the transformation were removed from the ccBPM. The retrieval of the source messages is done via a synchronous call with two mappings in the integration engine of XI that generate the required format for the receiving system. Therefore, it is not necessary to add an additional transformation step in the ccBPM. Additionally, the IDoc adapter connecting to the target system is used to handle multiple IDocs inside one XI message. Therefore, it is not necessary to add a loop operation within the ccBPM either. – In this particular implementation, the described changes resulted in a 20x performance improvement!

  • Implement CollectMerge without BPM?

    Hello all,
    I have the following scenario:
    1. Synchronous message A sent to XI.
    2. XI sends it to N receivers.
    3. XI merges N responses of type B to one response of the same type.
    4. XI sends the merged response as an answer to A.
I implemented this scenario using a BPM process.
However, since it involves user interaction,
BPM is not reccomended due to its performance cost.
Is there a way to implement such a scenario without the use of BPM?
(Perhaps using user defined functions in the mapping stage?)
    Thanks ahead for any help,
    Yoav.

    Hi,
This is possible if you make your steps Async.
    Here
    1. sender A---ReceiverB
    2. Sender B (Collected data) --- Receiver A.
But then these would be independent steps and you will have to take care that step 1 triggeres before step2.
Otherwise if you need to collect data in XI you will have to use BPM.
Basically async messages are stateless . If you need to club messages together you want to make it stateful which is the basis for BPM use.

  • BPM Process chain takes long time to process

We have BI7, Netweaver 2004s on Oracle and SUN Solaris
There is a process chain (BPM) which pulls data from the CRM system into BW. The scheduled time to run this chain is 0034 hrs. This chain should ideally complete before / around 0830 Hrs. <b>Now the problem is that every alternate day this chain behaves normally and gets completed well before 0830 hrs but every alternate day this chain fails…</b> there are almost 40 chains running daily. Some are event triggered (dependent with each other) or some run in parallel. In this, (BPM) process chain, usually there are 5 requests with 3 Delta and 2 full uploads (Master Data). The delta uploads finishes in 30 minutes without any issues with very few record transfers. The first full upload is from 0034 hrs to approximately 0130 hrs and the 2nd upload is from 0130 hrs to 0230 hrs. Now if the 1st upload gets delayed then the people who are initiating these chains, stop the 2nd full upload and continue it after all the process chains are completed. Now this entire BPM process chain sometimes takes 17 -18 hrs to complete!!!!!
No other loads in CRM or BW when these process chains are running
CRM has background jobs to push IDOCS to BW which run every 2 minutes which runs successfully
Yesterday this chain got completed successfully (well within stipulated time) with over 33,00,000 records transferred but sometimes it has failed to transfer even 12,00,000 records!!
Attaching a zip file, please refer the “21 to 26 Analysis screen shot.doc” from the zip file
Within the zip file, attaching “Normal timings of daily process chains.xls” – the name explains it….
Also within the zip file refer “BPM Infoprovider and data source screen shot.doc” please refer this file as the infopackage (page 2) which was used in the process chain is not displayed later on in page number 6 BUT CHAIN GOT SUCESSFULLY COMPLETED
    We have analyzed:--
    1)     The PSA data for BPM process chain for past few days
    2)     The info providers for BPM process chain for past few days
    3)     The ODS entries for BPM process chain for past few days
    4)     The point of failure of BPM process chain for past few days
    5)     The overall performance of all the process chains for past few days
    6)     The number of requests in BW for this process chain
    7)     The load on CRM system for past few days when this process chain ran on BW system
As per our analysis, there are couple of things which can be fixed in the BW system:--
    1)     The partner agreement (transaction WE20) defined for the partner LS/BP3CLNT475 mentions both message types RSSEND and RSINFO: -- collect IDOCs and pack size = 1 Since the pack size = 1 will generate 1 TRFC call per IDOC, it should be changed to 10 so that less number of TRFCs will be generated thus less overhead for the BW server resulting in the increase in performance
    2)     In the definition of destination for the concerned RFC in BW (SM59), the “Technical Setting” tab says the “Load balancing” option = “No”. We are planning to make it “Yes”
But we believe that though these changes will bring some increase in performance, this is not the root cause of the abnormal behavior of this chain as this chain runs successfully on every alternate day with approximately the same amount of load in it.
I was not able to attach the many screen shots or the info which I had gathered during my analysis. Please advice how do I attach these files
    Best Regards,

    Hi,
Normally  index  creation or deletion can take long time in case  your database statistics are not updated properly, so can check  stat  after your data loading is completed and index generation is done,  Do creation of database statistics.
    Then try to recheck ...

  • File-RFC-File (without BPM)- Issue

    Hi All,
I am working on a File-RFC-File (without BPM) scenario in PI 7.1.
My scenario is having few problems like, its not able to delete the file from the source directory path (for which we have delete permissions) and it is an NFS system and it shows an error in the Sender file CC.
"Error: com.sap.aii.af.service.cpa.impl.exception.CPAObjectKeyException: Value of key must not be null: ObjectId"
But it gets processed successfully and provides a written paramter which I could see in MONI, but again doesn't write the file in the target directory. Could you please provide your inputs and let me know if I need to do any additional settings w.r.to PI7.1.
These are the parameters which I have specified in the Sender File adapter
    Processing sequence

    Hello,
Check out in module configuration tab for any "type error" or spell mistakes.
Check out this thread which might be useful for you :[ File - RFC - File without a BPM - Possible from SP 19.|File - RFC - File without a BPM - Possible from SP 19.]
