Tabular Form Validation - Save Correct Values

I'm using Denes' example of tabular form validation. It finds the errors and displays the error messages, but I lose any values that were entered correctly. Do I need to use a collection to save them? I've been looking through older posts and one comment was that you'd only need a collection if you wanted to show the user the values they entered incorrectly. With Denes' logic it tells them what line had the error and what the original value was.
DECLARE
  l_error   VARCHAR2 (4000);
BEGIN
   FOR i IN 1 .. apex_application.g_f02.COUNT
   LOOP
      IF NOT TO_DATE (apex_application.g_f05 (i), 'YYYY')
            BETWEEN   TRUNC (TO_DATE (apex_application.g_f04 (i),'YYYY'))
                 AND  TO_DATE ('2008','YYYY')     THEN
                  l_error :=   l_error
                    || '</br>'
                    || 'Row '
                    || i
                    || ': Photo Inspection Year has to be greater than Date On Map and less than 2008 for '
                    || ' Map: '
                    || apex_application.g_f02 (i)
                    || '<br> Requested date: '
                    || apex_application.g_f05 (i);
      END IF;
      IF NOT TO_DATE (apex_application.g_f04 (i), 'YYYY')
            BETWEEN   TO_DATE ('1890','YYYY')
                 AND  TO_DATE ('2008','YYYY')     THEN
                  l_error :=   l_error
                    || '</br>'
                    || 'Row '
                    || i
                    || ': Date on map has to be between 1890 and 2008 for '
                    || ' Map: '
                    || apex_application.g_f02 (i)
                    || ' <br>Requested date: '
                    || apex_application.g_f04 (i);
      END IF;
   END LOOP;
   RETURN LTRIM (l_error, '</br>');Thanks,
Susan

It doesn't make sense to post your questions within a closed thread - start you own thread.
It is possible to do that but you would need to save your data into a collection to keep the changes and display the error message on the same page.

  • Tabular Form Validation not working in tabular form APEX 4.0

    Hi,
    I am using APEX 4.0. I have a tabular form with Tabular form validation done with it.
    Item not null is the validation.. so if I dont type any value in the any of the fields in the tabular form and press the Submit button, the first time error is shown... but when I click the Submit button again, with still the empty rows the page is submitted.
    How to resolve this issue?
    Edited by: Suzi on Oct 5, 2010 11:13 AM

    Look at this thread - Re: Validations of tabular forms in 4.0

  • Tabular Form Validation: Comparing Two Columns vs Check Constraint

    What is the best approach for validating that one column needs to be greater than another column in a tabular form when attempting to save. (E.g. An effective date and expirey date column. The expirey date column >= effective date column)
    At the moment I have a check constraint on the two columns at the database level which is fine but it returns and passes up a pretty cryptic (from a business user perspective) unfriendly message to the user as follows:
    Error in mru internal routine: ORA-20001: Error in MRU: row= 1, ORA-02290: check constraint (IDMTC.ADDRESS_TYPE_CON) violated, update "IDMTC"."ADDRESS_TYPE" set "ID" = :b1, "CODE" = :b2, "NAME" = :b3, "LOV_SORT_ORDER" = :b4, "DESCRIPTION" = :b5, "EFFECTIVE_DATE" = :b6, "EXPIRY_DATE" = :b7 where "ID" = :p_pk_col
    Unable to process update.
    Is there a way to inject, detect and/or replace this with a friendlier business user message? I have confirmed that the "Unable to process update." text at the bottom below the MRU Internal routine error raised from my check constraint is the process error message for my Apply MRU process.
    I was hesitating going down a larger page level validation where I loop through the tabular form array and/or inject some client side Javascript.
    Any advice? Have I simply overlooked some tabular form options for validating using cross column values?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Jeff..Thanks for the response.
    However because I am working in a tabular form at design time I don't know which controls I can reference in a dynamic action, or custom Javascript routine other than selecting all elements in a column using JQuery, etc.
    I have decided to go with for the time being an approach I found here: doing validation on tabular form
    My code ended up looking something like and was entered into a page level validation as a PL/SQL function body returning error text.:
    DECLARE
    l_error VARCHAR2 (4000);
    BEGIN
    FOR i IN 1 .. apex_application.g_f02.COUNT
    LOOP
    --If Expiry date is older then effective date
    IF nvl(apex_application.g_f08 (i), to_date('31-DEC-9999', 'dd-mon-yyyy')) < apex_application.g_f07 (i) THEN
    l_error :=
    l_error
    || '</br>'
    || 'Row '
    || i
    || ': Expiry date must be greater than effective date '
    || ' for maintenance item name: '
    || apex_application.g_f03 (i);
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
    RETURN LTRIM (l_error, '</br>');
    END;
    I had been hoping with Apex 4+ that there was additional native functionality to do this type of validation or somehow be able to reference a column or control name instead of a generic array column so that my code was better self documenting.
    It works for now...but would love to revisit with maybe a cleaner client side solution that does the validation and highlights the invalid element since I still maintain data integrity at the db with the check constraint.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Dynamic Action on tabular form: to auto set value for all changes rows

    Hi All:
    I am using APEX4.2.3 and I am not very familar with JQUERY or Javascript.
    I am having a tabular form to support Update and Delete action. The tabular form has 4 columns:
    Column A: ID                      (Number)     : Read-only column
    column B: Name                 (Varchar2)   : Editable
    Column C: Age                    (Number)     : Editable
    Column D: ChangeFlag      (Varchar2)   : Read-only column                             ==> however, I want this column been automatically upldated by my APEX application
    Here is the requirement: First user update Column B, or C or both for # of rows; then user click "Save Change" button. For ALL updated rows, I need to automatically update Column D with below logic:
    For a given row,
                   IF Column D IS NULL  THEN
                         set value = 'M'                           -- M means modified
                   ELSE --- column D has a value already
                        IF last character of Column D is 'M', THEN
                               don't do anything;
                        ELSE
                              set value of D = existing value + 'M'                       (here + means concatenate
                       END IF;
                END IF;
    I thought this can be done by creating dynamic action on tabular form ... I have researched this on this forum and can't find a good match example ..
    I know I can implement this using a DB trigger; however, I want to learn if this can be achived via Dynamic Action.
    Thanks!
    Kevin

    Hi Expert:
    Anyone can offer any direction or help on this?
    Thanks!

  • Dynamic Form in Tabular Form i.e SET VALUE

    Hi,
    I have an tabular form ,
    In which two column are there i.e username and department
    Just I wnt to know can dynamic action i.e SET VALUE CAN BE USED IN TABULAR FORM.
    AS I CHANGE THE USERNAME THERE PERSPECTIVE DEPARTMENT SHOULD CHANGE.
    can anyone help.

    Hello Trent,
    I too, am attempting to set the value of an item when another item is changed.
    I need to capture the APP_USER changing the row for each row changed in the tabular form when submitted.
    My table is in a remote database that is not allowed to have APEX loaded directly in the instance (or db link TO the APEX instance).
    Can’t get the APP_USER making the change at this level, as the APEX code is not there.
    The instance that hosts the APEX installation accesses the table via a view through a db link.
    Can’t use a trigger on the view to set the APP_USER using APEX functionality.
    Not desirable to re-invent the IUD wheel using instead-of triggers.
    The example you posted on http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=45448:11 is exactly what I need (even though your example sets the value on Lose Focus and I Set value on Change).
    I am attempting to implement the dynamic action for the item using your javascript, and am almost there....but not quite. The dynamic action is updating the target item in ALL the rows in the tabular form, not just the one that is being changed.
    This, I am sure, is due to my inexperience with Dynamic Actions, jquery syntax, and the javascript API’s for APEX. I believe I know what the issue IS, I’m just not sure how to work around it.
    Please note: I attempted to download your example at the above website (turning off popup blockers), but had no success (I got the thank-you for downloading message, but have no clue what was downloaded to where). I was hoping to compare your form Dynamic action with mine to see where I went wrong.
    If you could please, review the following and:
    1)     let me know what might be different from your working example?
    2)     provide info on how to get your working form downloaded (such a tease to have the download link there and not get it to work ;0} ) , please?
    The following shows the html from view source for a row in my tabular form. This will help you get an idea of the items. The actual number of rows in the form is about 50.
    <table cellpadding="0" border="0" cellspacing="0" summary="" class="report-standard">
    <tr class="highlight-row">
    <td headers="CHECK$01" class="data">
    <label for="f01_0002" class="hideMe508">CHECK$01</label>
    <input type="checkbox" name="f01" value="2" class="row-selector" id="f01_0002" />
    </td>
    <td headers="JOBNO_DISPLAY" class="data">X111Y2222</td>
    <td align="center" headers="DEPR" class="data">
    <label for="f03_0002" class="hideMe508">DEPR</label>
    <input type="checkbox" name="f03_NOSUBMIT" value="1" id="f03_0002_01"
    onClick="if (this.checked) {apex.jQuery('#f03_0002').val('1');}
    else {apex.jQuery('#f03_0002').val('');}" />
    <input type="hidden" name="f03" value="" id="f03_0002" /></span>
    </td>
    <td headers="UPDUSER" class="data">
    <label for="f04_0002" class="hideMe508">UPDUSER</label>
    <input type="text" name="f04" size="16" maxlength="2000"
    value="MOMSDAT" id="f04_0002" />
    </td>
    <td headers="DERIVED$01" class="data">MOMSDAT</td>
    <td headers="UPDDATE" class="data">13-DEC-11
    <label for="f02_0002" class="hideMe508">JOBNO</label>
    <input type="hidden" name="f02" value="X111Y2222" id="f02_0002" />
    <input type="hidden" id="fcs_0002" name="fcs"
    value="DB31F7B9ED99E6A2F7295F6B7D236409">
    <input type="hidden" id="frowid_0002" name="frowid"
    value="AAATI3AAGAAAAIXAAo" />
    <input type="hidden" id="fcud_0002" name="fcud" value="U" />
    </td>
    </tr>.....
    <tr>.....</tr>
    </table>
    To help explain:
    I have a checkbox associated with array name f03_NOSUBMIT,
    This checkbox OnClick updates a hidden item associated with array name f03. The hidden item is linked to the depr column of my view/table (this functionality is straight from Oracle’s tabular checkbox wizard – works great, no problems).
    When the check box is changed, I need to capture the APP_USER value in the UPDUSER field associated with the f04 array (nice that the array names matched up with your example :0} )
    To do so, I created a dynamic action:
    Name: Set_Upduser
    Sequence: 10 (it’s the only DA)
    Event: Change
    Select Type: jQuery Selector
    jQuery Selector: input[name=”f03_NOSUBMIT”]
    --note: the event does not fire if I use f03
    --since that value is not actually
    --changed until submit with this
    --method.
    Condition: - No condition –
    True Actions:
    Sequence: 10
    Action: Set Value
    Fire When Event Result is: True
    Fire On page Load: Unchecked
    Stop Execution On Error: Checked
    Set Type: JavaScript Expression
    JavaScript Expression:
    var row = $x_UpTill(this.triggeringElement, 'TR');
    var otherElement = $('input[name="f04"]',row)[0];
    otherElement.value = '&APP_USER.';
    Selection type: jQuery Selector
    jQuery Selector: input[name="f04"]
    This ALMOST works...
    When I run the page and click on just one check box, the UPDUSER fields are updated with the APP_USER for ALL the records, not just the row for the checkbox I clicked. And, if I submit the changes, ALL the records in the table now have the APP_USER in the UPDUSER column. Not just the column where the check box was changed (Which would be expected since all the values are changed in the form – hey, the submit part works :0} ).
    Your example at http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=45448:11 works, setting the value for the target field only for that row. If I can get mine to work the same way, I will be good to go (as in hog-heaven, doing the Snoopy Supper-Time dance).
    I am thinking my issue is with the row identification in the
    --- var otherElement = $('input[name="f04"]',row)[0];
    I seem to not be picking up the row value in the row var.
    Am I reading line correctly where 'input[name="f04"]' is pNd, and row is pValue? Read the description of the $x_UpTill API, not sure how this is working to identify pValue (Row?).
    Additionally, I am not sure what the [0] is for at the end of the otherElement var definition. I don’t see that listed with the $ JavaScript API parameters (Google wasn't much help there either).
    OR, am I missing something else?
    Once again, if you could:
    1) let me know what might be different from your working example? (What does yours have that mine doesn’t)
    2) Provide any info on how to get your working form downloaded at http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=45448:11. Please, please?
    As always, your assistance is greatly appreciated!

    Dear all,
    I want to apply the validation on tabular form for my inventory module and I want to restrict the user  that the received quantity of particular item should not be greater than  the P.O quantity
    For example
    In  P.O
    Item Qty
    A 20
    Received Quantity
    Item Qty
    A 21
    Or if items are received in two shipments like as following
    Item Qty
    A 10
    A 11
    I want to put the validation to restrict the user that he can’t save the item quantity more then ordered quantity weather is received partialy or all at once, but I do not understand how can i do that.
    I m using Apex 4 with Oracle 11G R2 on windows Server 2003.

  • Tabular form query using column values delimiter

    I wanted to know, if i can query a tabular block by entering the column values (primary key) as semicolon delimited and update required fields. Please let me know.
    Requirement:-
    User will enter 5 values as "AB1; AB2; AB3; AB4; AB5"
    After entering I need to write a plsql code to query the tabular form as follows
    PrimaryCol SecCol
    AB1 IN
    AB2 IN
    AB3 OUT
    AB4 IN
    AB5 ON
    Then I will update the columns accordingly.
    Please help me.

    You could put something like this in the WHERE-clause (assuming that :BLOCK.QUERYDATA contains your value AB1;AB2;AB3;AB4; )
    INSTR (';' || PK_COLUMN || ';', ';' || :BLOCK.QUERYDATA || ';')>0Maybe you have to additionally eliminate space in :BLOCK.QUERYDATA

  • ADD ROW in tabular form with new max value for a certain field

    All,
    I have a tabular form with an 'ADD ROW'-button.
    When a row is added the field 'TemplateID' should get

    I would be very glad, if someone has a hint for me.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi
    the cause of not seeing the 'Default Item Field' is,
    that during creation of a 'Tabular Form' the column with the
    primary key doesn't get that feature, why so ever.
    I still hope that someone could give me a hint why that code isn't working:
    function SetNewID(vDBID)
    v_check = $v('P20_MAX_TEMPLATEID');
    pNd = $u_Carray(vDBID);
         for(var i=0;i<pNd.length;i++){
              var node = $x(pNd);
              node = $x_Check_For_Compound(pNd[i])
              var lTr = $x_UpTill(node,'TR');
    updateRow = lTr.rowIndex - 1;
    document.wwv_flow.f02[updateRow].value=$v(v_check)

  • Tabular Form - Setting a default value just on first row.

    Hi all,
    how to set a tabular form default value only in the first row?
    When I click on "add row" I want the new row have a blank value.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    When you add a new row to the tabular form, any existing rows should be saved to the database. You can, therefore, check for the existence of such records and set the value of a hidden page item accordingly. The default value for a tabular form item can then be based on this hidden item.
    This can be done by setting the Source Used to "Always, ..." on the hidden item called, say, P1_DEPTNO_DEFAULT, and the Source to something like:
    DECLARE
    X NUMBER;
    BEGIN
    SELECT COUNT(*) INTO X FROM EMP WHERE DEPTNO = :P1_DEPTNO;
    IF X > 0 THEN
      RETURN '';
    ELSE
      RETURN :P1_DEPTNO;
    END IF;
    END;This is a "PL/SQL Function Body" Source Type.
    In this example, we are checking if there are any EMP records with a DEPTNO value that matches P1_DEPTNO. If there are, then the tabular form must contain at least one row already, so we return an empty string. If there are no records, the tabular form must be empty, so we return the P1_DEPTNO value.
    The Default settings on the DEPTNO column in the tabular form would then be:
    Default Type: Item (application or page item name)
    Default: P1_DEPTNO_DEFAULT

    Hi,
    I have a page with two search items.
    Based on the values in the search item, a report is created as tabular form.
    The information displayed has a frequency column.
    Values for frequency can be Q, Y, M, D
    I would like to know if it is possible to to load the form with a standard numbers of row depending on the frequency.
    Example: If frequency is Q ,then when i click the go button in the search region, the tabular shoud load with the information displaying 4 rows, even if the information returned is less than 4 rows.
    If frequency is Y ,then when i click the go button in the search region, the tabular shoud load with the information displaying 2 rows, even if the information returned is less than 2 rows.
    When no data is found, the form should load displaying a number of empty rows depending on the frequency.

  • Tabular Form Validation Help

    Version 2.0
    I have a Tabular Form that represents Show dates. There are three displayed fields: Description (Text Field), Date (Date Picker), and Active (Static Select List: Yes;1,No,0).
    I need help to create a page validation to make sure that only one show is ACTIVE at a time when the row is submitted.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    On the database side, I use the following technique to implement a "radiobutton" constraint. I think I picked it up from AskTom.
    If you have a table like
    create table t
      show_id int,
      show_date varchar2(50),
      active_flag varchar2(1),
      constraint t#pk primary key (show_id,show_date)
    );which is what I think your data model looks like.
    You want to ensure that for a given show, only 1 show_date is active (radiobutton-style).
    Create the following function-based index on the table
    create unique index i on t(decode(active_flag,'Y',show_id));This will prevent invalid data from getting into the table, no matter what.
    Regarding your Apex issue, I would suggest that when you add a row to the tabular form, default the select list to Inactive. You can use client-side Javascript to do some toggling of the select lists, but that really assumes that all the rows are being shown in the tabular form. In any case, the unique index above would guarantee data integrity when the data finally hits the database.
    Hope this helps.

  • Tabular form validation(Checkbox) is not working for Interactive report

    Hi,
    I am using the oracle apex 4.0 and oracle 11g.
    I have written a below select query on interactive report as

    apex_item.checkbox(1,RESIDD)||apex_item.hidden(2,RESIDD) row_selector,
    apex_item.text(3,RESNUM) as resnum

    DECLARE
    vRow BINARY_INTEGER;
    BEGIN

    FOR i IN 1 .. apex_application.g_f01.COUNT

    apex_application.g_print_success_message := apex_application.g_f01(i)||'-'|| apex_application.g_f03(vRow) ;
    END LOOP;
    END;
    Output : No data found error message
    As far as it work for sql report with above logic because apex built in row selector
    but it fails in case of interactive report for some reason.
    Please suggest.

    -- apex_application.g_print_success_message := NULL;
    FOR i IN 1 .. apex_application.g_f01.COUNT
    LOOP
    vRow := apex_application.g_f01(i);
    apex_application.g_print_success_message := apex_application.g_f01(i)||'-'|| apex_application.g_f03(vRow) ;
    END LOOP;
    END;
    Output : No data found error message
    As far as it work for sql report with above logic because apex built in row selector
    but it fails in case of interactive report for some reason.
    Please suggest.NO DATA FOUND usually occurs when an i mplicit select does not find anything. It can also occur when referencing a collection element that has not been defined.
    You have 2 collectinons in the code you posted, apex_application.g_f01() and apex_applciation.g_f03. Since you are looping therough the COUNT attribute of g_f01 its reference ("I") is probably okay and the value store in vRow is probably not right. You can check this by using RAISE_APPLICTION_ERROR to see the value something like
    raise_application_error(-20000,'vRow="'||vRo2||'"');Remember that working with checkboxes is tricky. If the box is not checked nothing will be sent. You may need to define a default value when no value is submitted.

  • Null Validation in Tabular Form in APEX 4.2.2

    Hi to all respected Gurus of this Forum!
    Recently downloaded APEX 4.2.2. As we know that this version has some improved features and one is the best is i.e. *"Validation on Tabular Form".*
    For test purpose I succeeded to apply validation on field of tabular form and I am not allowed to "SUBMIT" data as per Validation Rule.
    But now, I want to customize that validation as per below logic.
    If required field is null than a message-box should appear with two buttons , as under:
    Blank field not allowed. Do you really want to submit? (Buttons should be = YES NO)
    If user press "YES" then validation should be false and record should be saved
    AND
    If user press "NO" then no data should be submitted/inserted as per validation logic.
    Please help. Your as usual cooperation is highly appreciated in advance.

    Hello Sabine,
    >> I read about enhanced validation in 4.1 and would love to get rid of g_f-programming.
    The major “trick” is to associate the validation/process with a Tabular Form. On the first screen of both wizards, the first field is Tabular Form. You must select the tabular form on your page (currently there can be only one. In future versions this will change).
    Another factor that might influence the behavior of Tabular Form validation/process is the new attribute of Execution Scope. Unfortunately, you must enter Edit mode to gain access to this attribute (i.e., it can’t be set directly from the Tabular Form create wizard). Set it according to your need.
    The rest is very simple. You should treat your Tabular Form as a simple form, where every column header stands for a form item. The following is a very simple example of validating the SAL column:
    if :SAL < 1500 then
      return 'Sal Value is under 1500';
    else
      return null;
    end if;In this validation I’m using the Function Returning Error Text type.
    Regards,
    Arie.

  • How to save the session states for a tabular form WITHOUT using check boxs?

    Greeting guys,
    As you know that we can use collections to save the session states of a tabular forms, described in the how-to doc of manual tabular forms. However, what I am trying to do ( or have to do) is to provide a manual tabular form, and save the session states for validation, without using the check boxes. Because a user can put contents into some columns in a row without checking the corresponding checkbox, according to the requirements. So basically what I tried is to loop over all the rows and save Every entry into a collection. However, sometimes I got "no data found" error with unknown reasons.
    My current solution is to use the "dirty" Retry button that gets back the history, which IMO is not a good workabout. So, I'd appreciate if somebody can shed some light on a better solution, especially if it is close to the one in that how-to doc.
    Thanks in advance.
    Luc

    The following is the first collection solutin I've tried:
    htmldb_collection.create_or_truncate_collection('TEMP_TABLE');
    for i in 1..p_row_num loop -- Loop on the whole form rows
    if (htmldb_application.g_f01(i) is not null) or (htmldb_application.g_f05(i) <> 0)
    --If either of them has some input values, the row should be saved into the colleciton.
    then
    htmldb_collection.add_member(
    p_collection_name => 'TEMP_TABLE',
    p_c001 => htmldb_application.g_f01(i),
    p_c002 => htmldb_application.g_f03(i),
    p_c003 => htmldb_application.g_f04(i),
    p_c004 => htmldb_application.g_f05(i),
    p_c005 => htmldb_application.g_f06(i),
    p_c006 => htmldb_application.g_f08(i)
    end if;
    end loop;
    Some of columns have null values, but I don't think that's the reason. Because once I clicked all the check boxes, there would be no error no matter what values were in other columns.
    Another issue would be extract the values FROM the collection, which has been tried because I had problem to store the data into the collection. I used "decode" functions inside the SQL to build the tabular form. I am not sure whether it will be the same as a regular SQL for a tabular form, like the example in the How-to doc.
    Also I didn't use the checksum, for it is not an issue at the current stage. I am not sure whether that's the reason which caused the NO DATA FOUND error.
