Talked with apple tech support about 7.0

I was having problems with the 7.0 installation. I could install it, but when I clicked on it the hourglass would show and then nothing. It wouldn't open. So I called apple. I was on the phone for over an hour with a tech "specialist" and they walked me thru what I should delete, remove, re-install, etc. Did EVERYTHING and it still doesn't work. So, you know the response they gave me? Something with my microsoft software must be causing a problem, so I need to contact microsoft. I told them I've had no problem downloading until now. And they did admit they had a "few bugs" that they were working out, but it's my software that's causing the problem. So in other words, we don't know, I'm passing the buck.
If anyone can help me get my itunes working, I would SO greatly appreicate it!
Apple doesn't have a fricken clue. Also, they knew there were bugs in it, and released it anyway. I'm about ready to switch to a dell.

Yeah... I've had a couple of the Apple Kool-Aid drinkers try and tell me the same thing, "It must be your PC or XP".
Well then explain to me, how everything, including iTunes 6.0.5 was working almost flawlessly prior to installing iTunes 7.0? How is it, that this well-operating system/machine was fine and upon installation of iTunes 7.0... it somehow triggered some long dormant fault?
Please...
So not only did they release a bug'd up version to the public... they're liars also.

  • Contacting Apple Tech support about persistent fan problem

I have had a persistent fan noise problem for nearly a year now. My MacPro is 16 months old and the video card fan constantly runs at high or near high all the time. My MacPro is never silent and often very noisy. This, I understand, is very abnormal for the MacPros. I have listened to other MacPros in shops and they are nearly silent. Mine buzzes always.
I have taken my computer in three times since purchasing it. The video card has been replaced twice (ie, I'm on my third video card) and the motherboard has been replaced once as well. I've taken the machine to two different repair shops and I still have this fan noise problem. All the repair guys can say is "yeah its noisy but I don't know why"
I would like to contact Apples main tech support about this but cannot find any info on how to on the support site. Does anyone know how to contact Apple's main tech support (e.g., who do the technicians contact when they run into trouble)?
    Thanks for your help

The numbers on the page I linked to are all, to the best of my knowledge, Apple tech support, not independent support providers, with the possible exception of Hong Kong and perhaps some of the smaller areas; I'm not sure, not having called them all. What country are you in?
BTW, there is no email for Apple tech support. Apple provides tech support via telephone only.

  • Talked To Apple Tech Support

Talked to an Apple Tech about my Wifi issues and got a case number. Here is what was said:
    1. They hear these issues a lot
    2. First suggestion was to turn off WiFi, and power down and reboot, then try again. I had already done this more than once, it didn’t help.
    3. We talked about router brands, but that didn’t seem a big factor. Based on his comments it sounds like they see more problems with secure networks than with open ones, but that’s just my reading between the lines. My issue is with open networks that are not close at hand (in distance).
    4. Next suggestion was to try a few other open network locations. I had done this and McDonalds and a local credit union worked ok. However at my friends house, which is linksys based, it either fails to see the network or connects for only a few seconds at a time.
    5. Test the same problem locations with my iPhone to see whether it can connect or not at places where the iPad cannot but the laptop can.
    6. Try a system restore to see if that helps. He claimed that 30% to 40% of the units they get back for Wifi issues work correctly after a system restore. No clue as to how valid these numbers are, but that is what he said.
    7. Call back if none of these worked and they would see about either a replacement or some other options.
I’m doing the restore now. It will be Sunday before I can test again at my friends house which is where the WiFi issue first surfaced. I’ll repost then on what happens.

Hi all: i have wifi connection problems with my new iPad 32GB.
To start, it connects fine, works for 10-15 minutes then if it goes to sleep, then wakes, it forgets the network, and/ or the WEP key. i have a new Verizon wireless router and FIOS network. i am sitting two feet away from the router antenna. I have a macbook, iphone, ipod touch and all of these Apple devices work on the wifi network- never any problems for over a year with these Apple devices. My question is, what is different about the iPad? Is it a hardware or software issue?
Verizon has locked down the router; i can't change the router settings. Anyway, I want to bring the iPad out to location N (Starbucks, wherever)- who knows if these places have configured their routers to be compatible with the iPad wifi problem?
I tried a reset of the iPad, and tried Forget Network, and reestablish connection, but no luck. i even erased the iPad and rebuilt, with the result being the same wifi connectivity problem.
I spoke with Apple Support and no one seems to know what the problem is. I went to my local Apple store and got a replacement iPad- but the replacement iPad has the same wifi connection problems.
My second question is, should I return the iPad and wait until these devices are fixed? Or if I keep it, then time is running out on the warranty... and if the wifi connectivity problem turns out to be a hardware issue, I don't know if Apple would fix it out of warranty...
    Very Concerned.
It took $600 to be an Early Adopter, and now all my gloating about my new iPad seems foolish.

  • QuickTime FUBARed...and there's no way to contact Apple Tech Support about

Looks like I'm not the only one experiencing this issue since the update.
Past files don't work, and many present files are unviewable.
    Workflow is in the toilet!
And the thing that takes the cake? There's nowhere on Apples site to send Tech Support an email regarding the problem.
Does anyone know if Apple knows about it and is going to fix the problem???
    Hello, Apple?

Ok, previously downloaded hd movies play just fine, but, when you view them in the directory window, their image is white/blank, when it used to show the greeen / or black starting screen.
but the other movie files that i transfer from disk weren't playing. just tried another one. just white screen.
i can bring it into Final Cut Pro, and i can view and use it in there. but it should work in QT pro as well.
don't know. any help appreciated. sorry to rant.
But it's very frustrating when you cannot send a heads up email to the company. That just makes absolutely no sense at all.

I plan on calling them tonight, as I am sure they want me to be at the same location where the equipment is located. Someone told me that tech support personnel are available in "large" numbers only before 9 PM Eastern, with an average wait of 2 minutes.

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

What is wrong with this maverick OS?

The only people who can possibly assist you with this is Apple Customer Relations, call your local Apple contact number and ask for Customer Relations then explain your situation clearly and politely (be firm but don't rant).
You might want to investiage what the local laws are regarding defective goods and 'fit for use' definitions on warranties etc. Consumer Protection can be a useful tool to use or bargain with if needed ...

Anyone else haveing a problem with appointments not syncing, duplicate appointments when syncing with Outlook? Noticed the problem a couple of days ago.
Also, noticed that my primary SMTP disappeared, and I had to re-establish to send e-mail.
Apple tech support was worthless on both issues.

Hi I am also in the UK, but not with Tiscali and am having the exact same problems. I can also send with wifi, but not 3G. I have tried amending all sorts of settings, including those above and amending the smtp server to the settings for my provider, but all to no avail.
It is thoroughly frustrating, as I cannot send emails unless I have wifi access.
Any further suggestions would be very welcome.

  • Reporting issues to Apple tech support

    Hi,
I will be a new mac user if I don't cancel my order in the next few days due to all your complaints. I was wondering if "we" can report this issues back to apple tech support. Are they aware of these problems(whine noise, etc)? I understand that some of the issues are not big deal but I believe we should not experience them. I would like to know how many macbooks have been shipped without a problem.
    Thanks

You have a couple of problems here (at least!):
    1. Very few people actually subscribe and post to this board as actual users of the product - out of the thousands of MBP's out there - so there is not totally solid information to begin with. Most of what you hear is because the more tech savvy people are on this board and are "experimenting" with thier new MBP's and are noticing more than the "civilians" out there.
    2. When there is an issue, I worry that too many times the issue is being discussed to death here, as if any of us have all the answers. And, yes, I agree with you - ALL issues must be reported to Apple - or there will be no fixes!
    3. As has been mentioned by numerous long-time Apple folks here, every product has some issues that are either minor or less. Some are widespread, but most are on an individual basis. I'm betting that is the case with a lot that is being reported here. Just because the MBP is a new product does not mean you should get all worried and cancel. As I said, plenty of PB's have issues - go to that forum and you will see them.
    3. The guys at the Apple Stores are good (the Genius's), however, YOU have more experience with the MBP (if in fact you have one already) than the guy in the store! I wouldn't necessarily count on them being to the "genius" level just yet! On the other hand, they know how to make things happen that you and I can't possibly accomplish.
I am looking forward to my MBP getting to me (soon I hope) and will hope that I experience none of the issues reported here. However, if I do, I accept that as an early adopter of new technology. If that is something you can't do, then I suggest you cancel. However, I don't think you have much to worry about. Sure, maybe "famous last words", but in my eight month experience with Apple, they are all they say they are and their reputation is golden.

  • Apple Tech support the very best!

Well today i am super proud to be a MAC owner, i was having a problem with my E-Mail set up after trying for an hour i called customer support, the gent walked me thru the whole thing and reset it correctly, something my optonline gent could not do. I know we come on here and rant and rave about the bad stuff, but i am here to say yippppeeeeee to Apple tech support!

That is a good point, Ochopulgada.
Apple has continually led the industry with its technical support, which has always been very helpful and supportive.
Try calling Lenovo, HP, or Dell for technical support. Having owned computers from these brands, I had experienced it firsthand. If you even manage to get through to a human being, you will be treated like a criminal!
Apple truly supports its customers in every possible way!
It is shocking that PC manufacturers have not caught on to the fact that this is how customers expect to be treated. Instead, they keep scratching their heads, wondering why Apple is doing so well, even in a recession.

  • Weird Server Problem - Apple Tech Support guys baffled!

So here is a really weird one!! I go to the finder. I choose 'Network' from the sidebar. I select a columnar view of the servers showing the names of the machines connected to my network. The last item, names 'Servers' should show an alias with a link to my own iMac G5 (which is named DG's iMac G5) - but what it actually says is 'macaboss.central.cu.lu' which I have found out is a server of some kind at the Central University of Luxemburg!!! Aaaaagh! So here is what is even more strange! All of the Macs on my network have the same problem and all have different names - all of which are connected with the Central University of Luxemburg. I have looked everywhere and cannot find any way to change this. I have spoken to Apple and they have no idea what has happened here or what to do. If you can shed any light on this, or can offer a solution, then I will be seriously impressed. Thanks
